Health degenerating post lapband
LeighaMason replied to megan71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a fill and I was too tight, I couldn't eat more than 500 calories a day. I finally went for an unfill but I was scared of regain so I kept on with the 500 calories a day. I started gaining back, so my friends on here convinced me to start eating 1000 calories a day last Tuesday, I have lost 2 pounds in 4 days by eating quality foods at 1000 calories a day. Plus I am no longer suffering from cold skin and fatigue. -
I haven't been this weight in over 5 years. However, I still cannot wear the jeans that I was wearing 10 lbs heavier than this. What gives? I wasn't more muscley then. I have lost almost 50 pounds and only one clothing size. AAARGH! I feel like there isn't much of a difference in the way I look. I know, how I feel is most important, but that hasn't been different either, as I never really felt bad Healthwise before the band. Is it skin? What? I am so sick of being a plus size! I'm still a 20!

Great message Terry. One way to build those markers is by rewarding yourself so that you associate the reward (non-food) with your NSV. For example, when I could ride a certain distance I rewarded myself with a new road bike. That was pretty big reward but was all the more special because my husband initiated it. Another reward I gave myself was a new gold watch when I hit a scale goal. Since then I've had another link removed and it is loose again. Keep up your great work!

My doctor says I am a perfect candidate for lap band. I am to have a sleep study soon. At 44 and already having had 2 heart stents inserted, and 2 parents dying prematurely of heart disease, I feel I need to do something. I need to know.... Is the surgery worth it? I worked in surgery for many years and have assisted Dr. James Kane in the North West suburbs of Chicago during quite a few of the primitive Gastric Bypass surgeries that were quite invasive. His son James Jr. is now on the forefront of this field and the innovative lap band. I have read much and my Primary Care Physician has nothing but praise for father/son partnership. I will make an appointment with them after the sleep study. I have not worked in surgery for more than 13 years. I will navigate this site frequently in the coming days. If anyone can give me assurance that this is the way to go, please encourage me. I am a food addict too. I am not the typical Lap Band Patient as I carry my weight quite well , and need to loose approximately 60-70 pounds only. Still a challenge and my weight just keeps increasing. Well, that is my introduction to this web site. One more point... Does your family fare better after you have the surgery. By that I mean do they get healthier too as a by product of you being more healthy, cooking healthier, being more active and increased (hopefully) self esteem? Thanks for your responses. As my name says I want to lose so that I may have life. I do not want to leave my kids motherless. Best to all of you- loseforlife

I am going through the same thing right now and am about 6 weeks out. been at the same weight up and down a pound for a week. I think it is our bodies adjusting. I bet next week we will loose 5 pounds. It is difficult to know you are working so hard and nothing is moving. Just remember the body is strange and miraculous and sometimes a week or 2 at a stand still just means your body is taking the time it needs to do what it needs to do. As long as you are following what you are supposed to do just ride it out. 27 pounds is awesome. I wish you all the best.

Whoa, are you serious? 21.5 pounds a week???? Honestly, I don't know of any real creams or anything to suggest for this. There's stuff out there but I don't know if it works. I do know that exercise can sometimes help keep your skin toned. Sorry, that's the best I got!

Hi everyone, I lurk on this site once in a while, but I have not posted much. I was wondering if anyone out there decided to have skin removal surgery after his or her weight loss. Why or why not? If you did have the surgery ... did your insurance cover it? was it painful? what was the recuperation time for you? Thanks :-).

Had anyone else had exteeme, I mean like the worst pain of my life, when getting an unfill? Three times I have ended up in the emergency room after an unfill. It feels like I have open skin inside my esophagus that someone is pouring acid in. The doctor says spasm but that is not what it feels like. Now I am afraid to get an unfill. Anyone else experience this? I feel like it is tears or open skin.

Weightloss is going to depend on a lot of factors. The obvious factors are, your initial weight, activity, intake, and band size. The band has to be filled slowly over time to give each person their just right amout of restriction. The greatest benefit with the band is that it is a more natural slow loss and the band is adjustable. If you loose 10 pounds are you going to keep it off? With the band, you can control if you are going to keep it off. LB patients don't have malnourishment or dumping which makes a great diffrence.

Whats Got Two Thumbs And Just Fixed Her Treadmill?!
audreycat123 posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
This girl!!! I haven't walked on it for over a year cuz the info display wouldn't come on (like i couldn't walk without knowing how far I had gone... How stupid!) well I just spent the last hour tearing into it with a flashlight and a screwdriver and I fixed it!!!! A connection had popped loose. Wait, Now I have to go walk on it....... ; ) -
It is interesting that you are planning on it from the beginning. I actually hadn't seriously considered it until my doctor brought it up. My upper arms are actually my biggest issue since the rest can be covered with clothes, although it would be awesome to have the extra skin gone everywhere.

Is This A Problem For Anyone Else?
big guy replied to It's all new's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Couple things I found to help: - Www.fitday.com - I track all food, really helps me clearly understand my calorie burn - Frisbee golf - way too fun. You don't feel like your excersising - Lick chips or Doritos if your craving hard ( lick off the the tasty stuff and throw the chips away. I read it on this site and .....it fricken works!!! ( my wife laughs) - Goodwill - I should be loosing another 40lbs over the next few months, so I went in there and got some steals for my in between sizes. -
It can be a symptom of pruritis, which can be caused by your liver making more bile than you need. It could also be an allergy. Or just a skin problem. Speak to your doctor about it.

If you put enough effort into this and lose slow and steady, at your age, I'd be surprised if you have any excess skin. Get enough excercise and follow your dietitian's instructions, all you'll put on is muscle. Good luck.

I have never heard of a difference between bougies sized for men or woman.... My doc said that the range is 32-60 so a 40 would still be on the small size. How it is stitched or stapled has something to do with the size too...and if it is cut loose or tight..... Im a woman, 36 cut loose, then overstitched is what I was told I was getting...He also cuts loose at the pylorus end, saying it avoids problems...(?)

I love my treadmill. I fast walk for 30-40 minutes and go about 2 miles. I try to do it first thing in the morning. I like this machine because I can set the speed, and incline. I have it at a 5 % incline out of 10% and start walking at about 2.5-2.8 mph for three minutes and then up it to 3mph for the rest of the time. This really does work for loosing weight.

B12 shots are associated with people trying to loose or loosing weight. I don't know enough about B12, but I would think that it is a vitamin/supplement that is absent from our diets during this weight loss period.

Banded in July 08 and have only lost 10 pounds!! HELP!
lea2015 replied to Dee66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain. I was banded on Sept. 18th and have lost only 19 lbs. I lost the 19 with no issues between Sept and Nov. I have not lost anything since Thanksgiving. I have gone as far as joining weight watchers hoping that between the band and WW I will start losing. Why so some loose so my much and others seem to have issues loosing? I have 7 cc's in a 10 cc band and I am finally having some problems with certain foods. Sorry I was not able to give you any food advice but at least you know you are not alone. -
I am scheduled for my first fill tomorrow. I am very nervous because the Physicians Assistant is doing it not my Dr. I remember her saying that if I lost enought weight she would not need to do a fill. However, I lost about 22 pounds in 7 weeks and it has come to a halt this week. I am very pleased so far (not complaining) but I kind of hope she will do the fill. How bad does it hurt and how do they find that little port under your skin?

Sudden pain near the left side of navel, underneath the skin. Doctor says it could be scar tissue. Even my skin is so sensitive to touch in that one area. Anyone else experienced this before? Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app
