    weight gain after surgery

First you shouldnt be weighing yourself daily like that... Everyone can gain or loose a pound or so daily. Also water weight. Also you will end up running into stalls where you wont loose any weight and maybe even gain a tiny tiny bit.

    Face & wrinkles

I found that the better my skin care routine, the better my skin responded back. Stay hydrated and if you are looking for collagen, my dietitian suggests the brand "Vital Proteins". You can add to coffee, soup, smoothies etc and it comes in flavors or unflavored. I found it helps me also to keep up with extra protein. She also recommends biotin and it helps hair, nails and skin. I started it 3 months prior to surgery and have continued to take it now. Since I am a more mature lady (tomorrow I will be 63) I have studied Youtube videos just to learn better make up techniques and this has been the best to make me feel better about myself. There is one person I follow that has 25 years experience as a makeup artist for movies, TV, commercials etc and her advice if fabulous and designed for women over 40. For myself I think knowing how to enhance and disguise my flaws gives me more confidence and this has improved my personal look. If you feel good and believe you look good you smile more and that is the ticket for me. https://www.youtube.com/c/CleanBeautyBabeMichelleSpieler

Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.

First of all this is a forum. I have no friends here, lol. I don't use that word loosely. I said I understand. I explained it in my previous post. I'm not sure what's difficult to understand about this. I don't care what nationality or culture I was, even if I wasn't American, I would have the same stance. It has nothing to do with where I live. Lol @ judgemental. Okayyy. So yeah, I understand perfectly well.

    Struggling

I am unable to comment on the binge eating, others can help you there. Prior to my surgery, I did stay home. I was so embarrassed to go out because of my size and how it disgusted me. I had made myself disabled, it was so hard to do anything and doing the smallest home chores would leave me panting. I didn't want to be in the spotlight and have people talking about me being fat, so I remained at home. I was happier that way or so I thought. Now I know I was depressed. I have always been thrifty and seek out clothes on Ebay. I will go into a store [ or order online and return the item ] try on their range and then stalk the same clothes on Ebay. Now that I am loosing weight I am selling. I dont buy much because I will hopefully need a size smaller very soon. If you have to buy some more clothes - tell yourself they will be the last fat suits ever. Keep a set to remind yourself in your near future. Try them on occasionally and laugh and cry at how far you have come since you bought them. As River Moon said, Hang in there, not long now.

But then I figure of course I'm hungry liquids just go right through and that I will really know if it's tight or not once I start solids..... How much calcium??

I requested and received a sample package from Bariatric Advantage. I received individual packets of iron and then some loose chewy ones. There are several different flavors. I do not know what they are tho no information provided besides the brochure. A couple of them say Multi on it so those I am assuming are the multivitamins but what are all the other flavors they only say the flavor on the wrapper? I also received HPMR, banana, choc and strawberry that I will try on Monday. Can anyone identify the chewy ones?
  14. I read it as you’ll need to take the multi vitamin & also take the calcium (because of the plus sign) but you don’t need additional B12 as it is included in these meds (the recommended multi). The bad news is if you are one of those who will lose extra hair after surgery, you can’t do anything to stop it. Worrying about it will likely only make it worse - you don’t need additional stress. Remember we naturally regularly shed hair. After the stress of the surgery & the dramatic change to our diet, our natural hair loss cycle is accelerated. So the additional hair you lose was always going to be shed. Your new growth is still occurring but just at its usual rate. The hair on your head is dead & nothing can save that. All those vitamins & supplements that promise hair growth may do is help your new hair growth. Just like fertiliser won’t stop dead leaves falling off a plant but may help with new growth. Same with your nails. Once you get to your maintenance point & you’re eating larger portions & a more balanced diet, everything settles again. Even your face, which may look more drawn for a while, settles too. Your healthier diet will bring a lot of benefits to the quality of your skin, hair & nails in time too. Vitamins can be very expensive but it may be better to start with the higher quality recommended ones to begin while your diet is most restricted. My surgeon, dietician & pharmacist all told me that the vitamins kept behind the counter at the pharmacy are always the best quality in purity & quantity of ingredients. Apparently this applies to all over the counter meds. If they keep certain meds behind the counter buy those. All the best with your surgery & recovery.
  15. Hi! I'm scheduled for this upcoming TUESDAY to undergo a gastric sleeve! Today is FRIDAY! I have NOT yet purchased my Vitamins. I have the paper sitting in front of me. I've attached a picture since I'm confused about the second column (regimen). Can someone help explain what the second column means? I take it to mean with this particular brand (in the middle column) take 2 of the chewables plus 2 calcium citrate chews (and each chew has to be 500 mg) and the B12 is already included or do I need to find a B12 vitamin? I was wanting to do chewables so I can use them as "candy"... I'm SUPER worried about the Hair loss aspect...I was told that the BEST vitamins on the market are the Bariatric Advantage Advanced EA Multivitamin. I was also told I could throw in a hair, nails, skin vitamin. What vitamins do you recommend as a first time surgery patient? I know the above ones I mentioned are the most expensive, but I was told they're the best of the best...is that true?

    Confused by Consult

Hmmm, that is completely opposite from what I learned from my surgeon and everyone in support groups and forums just by reading and listening to people's stories. I would try to have a consult with another surgeon. I had SEVERE GERD before surgery, so bad I have extensive damage to my esophagus that had to be repaired during surgery. I went into my first apt. with my surgeon with plans of getting sleeve. He explained both surgeries in depth and then explained why the sleeve was not a good choice for me. Mainly was because of the GERD and a high amount of patients end up with some to a ton of acid problems with the sleeve, secondly because I wanted to loose so much weight that the malabsorption would assist in that more so than just the restriction. he asko explained that the hatial hernia repair and the bypass would likely eliminate the GERD if not completely, very likely to get it under control. I was on 2 prescriptions meds and eating tums every day and still, vomiting fireballs half the time. I am 4 weeks post op and I am now only taking a pepcid prescription which everyone takes for a while after surgery to lower the risk of ulcers, but better yet I have had ZERO acid problems. I mean NONE! I know it is still early, but I am starting to get back to a regular diet, even eating some hot sauces from time to time and still no issues. I have high hopes. Honestly, even if I have to take meds I would be completely satisfied as long as they completely controlled it with the meds. This is just my experience and everyones is different. But I truely believe his information is incorrect based on years of research and what I have learned. But I am no professional.
  17. I have PCOS and struggled with infertility back when we were trying to conceive my kiddos (now ages 5 and 7). I'm only 2 months post-op RNY, but I'm hopeful that this WLS will help with my PCOS symptoms. I was told to use two forms of birth control for the first year, because the rapid weight loss and resulting hormone fluctuations can make people SUPER fertile, and my program says not to get pregnant for the first 2 years post-op. Only 2 months out and I can already tell this is the best decision I've ever made for my body. I've lost a fair amount of weight before, but with my PCOS it's always like swimming against the current and I always wind up gaining it back plus 20 lbs (like, EXACTLY 20 lbs, for some reason!) The weight is coming off so much more easily this time, and I can already feel that it's going to STAY off and not be an endless struggle. My skin has cleared up, I've got less peach fuzz facial hair (no more shaving my sideburns, yay! lol). And my abdomen, which is where I carry the most of my weight and has always been the last place for weight to come off, is now one of the fastest shrinking parts of my body! Excellent. Sending you loving and positive vibes on your journey!
  18. Hi I’m just looking for some people who are going through or have been through the same. I have really PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) I have tried for years to loose weight and it has impacted on my fertility hugely for the last 3.5 years. I have decided on a VSG (hopefully at the end of May). I am so angry that it has come to this as my only option and feel completely abandoned by the NHS. I know that this surgery will change my life and hopefully for the better but the permanence is bothering me. Is there anyone out there who has had their PCOS symptoms improve with VSG? What is the post-op like? Please help, I’m in so much turmoil about everything and it would be amazing to not feel so alone.

Looking for some opinions on this...

It's really hard to say what will be the best choice for you until you get closer to goal weight or the weight you level out at. One thing to take into consideration is the diastasis recti muscle. That muscle is often separated due to pregnancies and or obesity. If that muscle is separated, it will be very noticeable once you lose weight and once the excess skin is removed. If you Google diastasis recti, you will see for yourself what it looks like. Then imagine removing all of the skin the way a panni does. That's what you'll be left with post panni (this is only if you have a separated diastasi recti) so it's all theoretical at this point. So with a panni only, it's possible to have a flatter lower abdomen, but a protruding area right down the midline. As far as lipo goes, I've never heard of lipo being added to a panniculectomy, because generally speaking, panni's aren't a sculpting type of plastic surgery. It only removes excess skin. Tummy tucks usually always include some lipo, even if it's only gentle feathering. Because tummy tucks also include muscle tightening, so it's a sculpting type of plastic surgery. So lipo is used to let's say, sculpt the flanks, etc for more shape and definition. My PS is one of the professors at the local university, so her fees aren't as pricey as a PS in private practice. She operates at the best hospital in my county and since she's a professor, she has a lot of residents coming and going during her surgeries because it's a teaching hosptial. So her fees are less. She did my fleur de lis but submitted to insurance for a panniculectomy and she didn't charge me anything further. You might find a surgeon willing to do the same. I would say keep researching and learn all you can now, but know that until you get closer to goal and consult with a PS it'll be difficult to say what direction you should go in. You might have an intact diastasis recti and a panni is the only thing you will need. You never know until you see where you land on the other side of weight loss. P.S... Real Self is a great site to research plastic surgery procedures. You can read patient stories and see pics, and see fees and reviews of the surgeons. I wish you the best on your journey!
  20. Thinking about after I eventually hit my final weight loss weight and am stable. I was going back and forth about a panniculectomy once I'm able (mostly because my insurance will cover it) and while I know it won't tighten any muscles, I'm hoping it will be flatter and my clothes will fit better (I'll be having my surgery on May 3rd at age 43 and looking to hopefully have my surgery about a year and a half later). I've already had 2 kids, I'm a grandma of 1, and I'm not going to be wearing any bikinis or crop tops lol So I don't care so much about tummy tucks but I do want my excess skin removed and my stomach flatter. I hope it'll happen with the panniculectomy. HOWEVER, I've been seeing posts about people not having belly buttons and not being evenly shaped, and that had me concerned. So then I started thinking about having the panniculectomy (paid for by insurance) and then paying the difference for a tummy tuck and lipo as needed (or maybe just lipo to even everything out???). I'm confused about the best way to go that also won't cost a fortune. I know a panniculectomy is more expensive than a tummy tuck, so I'm thinking if I just maybe add lipo to it or even the tummy tuck and lipo, the cost shouldn't be too high, right? UGH. I know it's a ways out, but I need time to save (I'm the sole breadwinner in my family, so I'll need every bit of time to figure out what I'm doing and save for it). Thanks in advance for any help and input!!!

Did you ever decide what you were going to do? Did you have the surgery? Panniculectomy worth it?

Did you ever decide what you're going to do? BCBS Federal and Plastics (Panniculectomy)

I haver BCBS of Illinois (not sure if they work the same, but my surgeon's office said they take all the BCBS and they all are basically the same depending on the plan the patient chose) and i reached out to my insurance about this and they said they do not cover anything that would fall under cosmetic procedures (no tummy tuck, no lipo, no tightening of the muscle walls, no body lifts, no nose jobs, nothing) but they WILL cover a panniculectomy but only if it's been deemed medically necessary and if weight has been stable for a minimum of 6-8 months. A panniculectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the pannus — excess skin and tissue from the lower abdomen. This excess skin is sometimes referred to as an “apron.” Unlike a tummy tuck, the panniculectomy does NOT tighten the abdominal muscles for a more cosmetic appearance, disqualifying it as a cosmetic procedure. However, removing the excess fat can make your abdominal area flatter, but not tighter (a tummy tuck would be needed for that).

    Airplane anxiety, just venting

It was pretty close just missed it. I could actually buckle it but it would pop open though. I don't measure myself but everything that was tight on me before is now really loose. I guess it would.help to measure myself. I know at my heaviest I fit into the Spirit airlines BIG seats so I could do some math from there. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
