So I had my first consult today, and they weighed me. I was just under 40 (39.6) bmi but I do have a comorbidity so they said I was ok. But what I want to know is, Which weigh in counts bc my first official weigh in is tomorrow. Does the insurance look at the consultation weight and the weigh in weight? I ask bc I'm worried they will say my sleep apnea isn't severe enough to clear me even though I have a CPAP.

I’m feeling pretty good, 8 days post op now and very minimal discomfort. Quite tired and somewhat fed up of liquids but otherwise great 👍🏻

Out With the Old--In With the New!
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hell, I never know what bs will come out of my mouth next girl. And I EQUALLY love your posts! I just wanna see if I can do it or if I'm already doing it naturally. LOL. I think without the green smoothie or a smoothie of some sort, it will not be possible for me. So I'm just gonna re-examine if they stall my weight out...plus, LOL, I have to play with my new $14.99 smoothie blender toy. ROFL! I think as green smoothies goes, it's fairly low carb--so hopefully that dog will hunt and it's not Gakalicious! And it is indeed forkin' hahahaha! Or fargin' if you prefer--as in, "fargin' icehole bastages." LOL. -
Out With the Old--In With the New!

I'm 1 pound away from 100 loss from my most recent high last May 5th! Expect my 100lb loss post tomorrow. Today I'm at 188.6lbs post poopy! And I wanted to post another daily menu, cuz I was just spending morning coffee time with the YOUTUBE and Dr. Weiner and his Pound of Cure program. And he suggests that even bariatric patients should be able to reach 1lb of veggies and fruits per day at 3-6months out from surgery. Tomorrow is the start of Week 12 from surgery (3 months baby! Can't believe it. Time flies.) And I've heard the Atkins style low carb diet repeatedly bashed for being a diet that is SO unhealthy that has wayyyyy tooo much protein, gobs of fat, and void of beautiful fiber and the veggies and fruits we all need! (Now. Please don't misunderstand. This is MY style that suits me and one I've honestly been doing for more than 80% of the last 18 years--it's not for everyone. And I'm not suggesting that this is the ONLY way to a healthy diet. I believer there are many paths and the best one is the one that you can personally stick with for life! And while I couldn't lose all my weight though it alone, it did keep my PCOS and pre-diabetes in control. It was actually dx'd as T2 before I ever started Atkins, but since then, they only ever refer to it as pre-dx since my A1C went from 6.9 down to 6.0 with it and stayed there.) So I wanted to post my menu today. It is indeed Atkins style. It is exactly what he suggested--protein adequate (I am aiming to get to 74g of protein per day per my RD) high in leafy greens and even has some low glyc. fruits (yes, I'm testing green smoothies...AGAIN. *le sigh*), it's low fat due to my food choices. It's packed with veggies and some fruits and for around 29g of net carbs, I will eat about 11oz of veggies and fruits. IDK. Not too shabby, Dr. Weiner. Feeling pretty proud. This is a pretty typical menu for me. The MFP lists it in excruciating detail (sorry), but short hand, here's what I had: (each meal is about 3/4-1c of food) B1: 2 protein lattes with Miralax and Colace B2: 1/4 lo Egg White Delight - no muffin; 50g egg white puff with lite LCow cheese wedge & salsa; 1oz steamed spinach L: 1/3 lo Caprese salad; 2.5oz grilled shrimp; 1/4c pico with avocado and cilantro AS: 16oz green smoothie (after PT) (apple cucumber spinach cilantro psyllium and lemon in vanilla protein powder & uns. coco. milk) D: 2.25oz grilled fajitas with grilled zuccs/ysquash and avocado BS: 1 protein latte Daily Totals: 704 cals; 74g protein; 30g fat; 40g carbs; 11g fiber; 29g net carbs; 11g nat sugars (You can click on the pics to make them bigger if you want to geek out.) -
Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
This is SO understandable and gives a great window into your weight history, so thank you for sharing!!! ((hugs)) And love your motivation! And I completely agree for some it's a number and other's it's a range and still others it's measured in things you can do or significant improvements to quality of life. And we all have different goals. And that's A-okey dokey with me. Vive la differance! For me, the number is a symbol that encapsulates ALL of those things. But what it mostly does is it marks that transition into maintenance. And for maintenance in my private Idaho, that's hopefully more calories. It's walking a carb ladder on low glycemic healthy carbs to see what my bg meter tolerates and where my personal threshold for maintenance resides. It's having a little more wiggle room each day if I want to have a casserole for dinner rather than my strict low fat protein + veg + healthy fats (ie a meal with more cals and gooeyness for lack of a better term). It's perhaps a tiny bit extra healthy fat in the form of avocado, or olive oil or nuts/seeds. Also, I feel certain people making a judgement on my personal goal being a number--or for having issues with this first statement in the article. When I was quite clear to outline that this was MY issue and that I wasn't expecting anyone else to follow my rules or make my goals and views theirs. I want to be VERY clear that I am judging no one here. But I don't think that respect is being returned. And whatevs. LOL. Whatever floats their boat. Thankfully their opinions do not determine my self-worth. I am determined! However, I'm not inflexible. Also, I am no longer a perfectionist. I'm a "just good enough"--except when it comes to me capitalizing on this amazing gift and chance I've been given. Cuz when I hit normal weight, when I hit my goal, it will ALSO mean I have a 38% less chance of recurrence of Stage IIIC high grade hormone positive (aka fat mediated) breast cancer. It means less asthma (medication free). It means hopefully normal bp and good bye to the last 2 of 3 meds. It will hopefully mean my A1c goes lower and remains out of my prediabetic range. It means a lessening of PCOS and will hopefully confer a lower fasting insulin number. It means hyperinsulinemia is in remission. It means a lessening of DDD pain and other osteoarthritic changes. It means a lessening of my left arm lymphedema from the BC treatments. It means a whole bunch more health things will also be corralled and I might possibly be able to live medication free save for my breast cancer drug and supplements. I'm willing to not stop until I hit that magic number because of those things. They were the motivation for this surgery in the first place. -

Almost quit on Day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet
Yo-yo girl replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great! More than a diet this has been a learning experience for you. I’m happy for you that you are so self aware. I believe you will do well because you know where you went wrong. It’s impossible to stop bad habits if we’re unaware of them. Day 6 and we going strong [emoji123] For some reason I can’t wait to get to day 7 Bc I think I’ll feel like I’m passed the F* this point [emoji28] Yo-Yo Girl from New York City -

Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
Malpraxis replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
Real food for thought (probably the only real food I'll be eating today). Despite not being a religious person, the serenity prayer came to mind: "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. " You cannot change your brain (completely [yet]), and that's a struggle, but you definitely (should) have the courage to change, and the wisdom to know your limits. Surgery just modifies your anatomy. As effective as it is, it's still a crutch. It buys you time to develop habits, to rewire years of mistreatment of yourself to the point where you got yourself sick. And the sooner people see obesity as a sickness, the sooner people will stop that body acceptance BS that some people are perpetuating. Four words to remember: YOU. ARE. KILLLING. YOURSELF. And any reasonably sane human, under the threat of imminent demise should instinctively jump on damage control mode. It's basic survival instinct. And after being aware of it, like any self preserving ecosystem should purge itself of the problem as efficiently as possible. So accept something that's sub par? Hell no. Would you drive with a flat tire? Would you jump of a plane with a faulty parachute? From the moment you take the decision to undergo surgery it's to solve the problem. And that's the only mindset that should prevail. Of course you can falter or even fail, and in that case is back to the drawing board until you get where you need to go. Falling is acceptable, standing up is indispensable. TL;DR: Hell no. -
Unflavored protein powder

My favorite is NorCal grass fed unflavored. It needs mixing in cold liquids but all whey does. I feel it is the healthiest. I don’t use any other. -
Lap band to bypass... I need assurance this won’t be another failure
Kimcicle replied to swimmer0302's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We are still trying to determine if mine will cover a new surgery so I may be out of pocket too. I’m so glad you are feeling better. I went to two doctors about my band too and they said there was no slip or erosion so my insurance won’t cover the removal. My doctor now is trying to work with me on getting my insurance to approve the removal as a medical necessity so I’m hoping it all works out bc the band is miserable. -
Bariatric haul! What have you bought for your journey or plan to buy?
Yo-yo girl replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m scared of buying too much for my post op Bc if my tastebuds go crazy I won’t know who to give these things to. I’m going to buy very little and just try it and see if I tolerate it. Initially I wanted to stack up and have everything that way I could be prepared. Yo-Yo Girl from New York City -
Post Surgery Thoughts- Sleeved May 1
moondoggie1983 replied to melmssc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m glad to hear this since I’m going in for VSG on 5/10! One question though: was it gas pain or the pain from the co2 they pump in during the surgery? Also, my doctor only starts you out on Tylenol because they said most people don’t need pain meds. I think that sounds like bs. Thoughts on that? HW: 311 CW: 258 SW: We’ll see on May 10! @FatGuy5000Your eyes are amazing! Don’t you think they stand out even more? I meant to start doing what you’re doing with weekly face pics. Did it once and it fell by the wayside. Anyway, your skin is also looking very good. I’d swear you had a facial! Keep up the grind bc you’re getting it done! FatGuy no more, now you’re ThinGuy. 🐈 -
How did you decide on your goal weight?!
magpie26 replied to bookworm1983's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think my surgeon told me a weight that was attainable. I took two weights in my head and those are it. I have been as small as 160s (barely and for a short time) but I've been there when I was younger so I know it's possible. I'm 5'5" my hw was 302, had my surgery on 4/17/18 weighed 292.9 on 4/2/18. Yesterday I weighed 269. But I'm 2 weeks out. Anyways here's my goals, I will ALWAYS be overweight by medical standards Female- 38 years old HW: 302 Last dr. Weight 292.9 Surgery weight- 283 CW: 268 GW 1: 180 GW 2: 160 Healthy weight/BMI: 143 With my bone and body structure I would look like I was dying at 143, even 153. I got sick was in the hospital and was down in the 160s and loooked good but sort of sickly and gaunt. So I guess long story short. I desperately want to be under 200 pounds, THATS my goal!! I want to feel and look good. The numbers are numbers. I think BMI is BS. -
One week post-op and hungry!
KatFight replied to Darin'Sharon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had hunger too and it was not head hunger. You’re hardly eating anything...of course, some of us feel legitimately hungry. I found if I kept busying myself the hunger would pass after around 20 minutes. If you’re not already, make your best efforts to get your protein bc that may help. [emoji258] -
I have Fed Blue, but my approval letter and everything came from BCBS of Alabama and they're paying 100% of surgical costs. All I had to pay out of pocket were the co-pays for dr. visits.

Why CICO (Cals In-Cals Out=Body Fat Gained) Is a Big Fat Myth
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't know about the body just "letting unneeded calories go." That hasn't been my experience. My body is EXTREMELY thrifty and finds some damn way to assimilate the billions of crap cals I've fed it over the years! LOL. My bowels do slow down if I down regulate my fiber volume. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Véronique replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hope so too. I hope all this data I'm collecting will be worth something in the end, if for no other reason than to at least get me some answers. I am non-compliant on my C-PAP (because I can't tolerate the damned thing while sleeping) but when I was Poudre Valley Hospital recovering from the surgery, I was able to use it without issue but coming home, no such luck. What they told me when I called the nurses station at the surgery unit was that they fed oxygen into the C-PAP, which would make sense as the solution as it's something that they were doing there that wouldn't carry over to when I got back here. I'm hoping I can speak with my GP and she can order it with oxygen just so we can try it and see how it goes. Of course, given the fact that they didn't initiate C-PAP at all during my last sleep study, there's every possibility that I might not have sleep apnea anymore. -
I scheduled a gyn. Appointment shortly after my surgery for this reason. But I do not want an IUD. I don’t like the idea of having that in my uterus and I have heard too many horror stories from friends/families. I hope to continue with the good ole pill form of bc.

Yo-yo girl replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m so jealous! I can’t wait to be where you’re at bc this liquid diet is killing me. I’m expecting post op liquid stage to be much easier because it just has to be. Birth Control
FingersCrossed18 replied to AlamoTeacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a friend who's body is very very sensitive to BC, and even after her sleeve it hasn't changed. She just uses condoms with her husband and is very careful! It's been something like 6 years and no unplanned pregnancy! However, if you know yourself and that's cutting it too close, go ahead with the pill, obviously lol. Good luck -
Oh and I slept in a recliner for nearly a month. Couldn’t lay flat bc of the pain. After that, improved rapidly. HW 356 CW 267 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18
