Anyone have LapBand to DS revision?
CandiceRW posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just looking for anyone with experience going through this. Did it work? I'm 5'6 350lbs. LapBand 2009. Started at 300, lowest weight was 230 after LB. Need to lose the weight ASAP to get double knee replacement. I was looking to have LapBand revision to bypass, but surgeon said metabolism slows down after first surgery. And I need all the help I can get to lose some major weight. So he suggested and I agreed to the DS. Starting pre-op diet in 2 days for LapBand removal in a month. My liver is huge. DS should be 3 months later, if all goes well. Any journeys would be great to hear about 🙂 -
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's your local Mini Gastric Bypass fan again! Yay! Someone asked the other day about MGB (also known as OAGB, Omega Loop, Single-Anastomosis Bypass) and I stumbled across this meta study. 26 studies were included (aka huge sample) Primary surgery was either version of the band or a sleeve gastrectomy (restrictive procedures) Mean BMI at time of revision to Mini Gastric Bypass was 45.7 Mean BMI at Year 1 was 31.5 Mean BMI at Year 3 was 31.4 Mean BMI at Year 5 was 30.5 That's right - they lost on average 14.2 BMI points in the first 12 months and kept losing weight up to the 5 year mark. So if you're considering revision, maybe give MGB a look? I love mine.

Good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow! I've got my final pre-op with the surgeon tomorrow. I'm expecting to get my pre-surgery diet instructions. I'm not nervous... I'm anxious to get to surgery day. It's been a long 9 month process of jumping through hoops with very low expectations of insurance approving my revision. Now that they have, I just want to get on to the next stage. I am ready for this stage. I'm all in. It's hard because my partner is having a sleeve bypass 1 month after I have my revision and she's in a much different mindset than I am. She's like "after the liquid phase, well be able to have whatever we want, just a bite or two" and I'm like "nope, I'm making healthy choices, I've been through this before, it truly is just a tool that will help you start those healthy habits so they stick long term" My 50th birthday is two weeks after my surgery and she thinks I can have a bite of ice cream cake. I'm like, no. So we are having some of my favorite foods that she makes and my birthday cake Friday night. Still gonna have a bigger party actually on my birthday with family and friends but that's just to celebrate and the food won't be an issue for me. Wow lol that was a lot! I'm overdue for a session with my therapist. Lol -
I'm glad you're recovering well. Keep us posted on your progress with the revision.

Today is two weeks past surgery. Recovery has gone well with no complications. My surgery was a revision from sleeve to bypass for hernia and GERD issues. I've dropped 10+ lbs in the two weeks which seems right in line (I was only at 227 on date of surgery). Per my surgeon's plan today we could progress to soft solid proteins, so it was great to have an ounce or two of sliced deli meat for lunch. Only downside is that they do an internal stitch to hold things together and that pain is real. I'm told it'll go away 4-6 weeks following surgery but until then it's the only downside to an otherwise good recovery so far.

Another Tummy Tuck Experience Update
Toesinthewater posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had stage 2 (lipo) done today. I'm feeling good. The leftover Percocet from stage 1 is a blessing. Dr. gave ok to use it instead of the typical prescribed Vicodin. I will probably have a small amount of loose skin on the thigh gap and love handle areas but nothing that a tiny nip/tuck won't take care of. I'll post pictures in a couple of months when most of the swelling is gone. As far as the TT recovery (7 wpo), I can now ride my bike; cough/sneeze/laugh without tearing up; but still no heavy lifting. I consider house cleaning heavy lifting (wink, wink) so I guess hubby will have several more weeks of maid duty. I was still wearing a compress garment 23 hours a day even though I don't have to wear it more than 12 hours. Dr. said the longer the better and I don't mind it since it's not summer yet. Now I'm back to wearing it 24/7. Dr. said plan on the scar revision this fall and my scar is healing nicely. -
Does Mini Gastric Bypass 'feel' the same as being Sleeved?
Guest replied to slimsuz's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Really, really look into the weight loss with mini gastric bypass, also as revision. There's studies out there and they're all in favor of the mini. Weight loss is greater in every. single. study. Also, I know it really isn't meant as such, but it's kinda condescending to call RNY a 'full' bypass (not that you did that). It's just as much of a bypass as RNY -

Thanks so much for posting, I've been hearing people say that they didn't feel much restriction after having bypass and that weight loss was much slower than their original vsg surgery. Appreciate your feedback, Im very keen to revise from vsg to bypass due to weight gain after 8 years. -
Does Mini Gastric Bypass 'feel' the same as being Sleeved?
Tomo replied to slimsuz's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision to full RNY (not the mini bypass since it wasn't covered by my insurance), and it feels the same but no Gerd. Main difference for me is a continuing low appetite even in the 7th month, double the rate of weight loss due to easy satiety off a couple ounces of food. -
I had the sleeve many years ago and it took awhile, but I developed severe Gerd and esophagitis. In August of last year, I had to get a revision to bypass, and I haven't had any Gerd symptoms so far. So at this point (entering my 8 month post-op), it has really, really helped me sleep better, feel better.

I had the sleeve done 7 years ago and developed horrible GERD with extensive esophageal damage. Tomorrow morning my surgeon is revising me to bypass as it offers the best chance to get rid of the GERD. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

When I had my sleeve the first few hours were the worst part, but that's when they have the best drugs available to help. Once I got comfortable in a bed the pain got better and then got a whole lot better after I got moving around. I'm hoping my revision Tuesday goes about the same. I am super super excited!! I'm having trouble sleeping at this point. I'm so damn calm, no anxiety. My approval process for revision was around 3 weeks from the day I had the endoscopy to the day I got the phone call telling me the good news. With the kind of reflux damage I have surgery almost always happens. I had a second scope a few weeks ago and the damage had gotten worse, not better. However, the ulcers did heal thanks to the medication they put me on. I didn't really have any food funerals. I had a few things I wanted to eat one last time, but was very underwhelmed with all of it. Yes, there will be some food I'll miss but I've been wanting to get sugar out of my diet anyhow. I'm more ready for the change this time than for my sleeve 7 years ago. I'd love to lose another 25 pounds to get down to 160. I think it's very realistic. Are you having any food funerals or are you kinda sick of food as thus point? Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -

March 21st for my revision. See my Dr for pre-op this Thursday. A lot has changed since my original surgery over 22 years ago. My Dr said I should be home same day, but we'll see. -

You must be excited. I know I am, but it was a relief getting approved after the 6 month process. My surgeon has a crappy bedside manner (but is the best revision surgeon in the area) and stressed me out at our first meeting in pre-op for the egd, telling me getting insurance to pay for revisions is next to impossible but I can self pay. Single mom here, so no, I can't self pay. Needless to say, after the egd, he had to do more testing due to undigested food still in my pouch after a twelve hr fast, discovered slow motility and he was suddenly singing a different tune. "I will get this approved". I meet with him one last time on the 3rd for my pre-op instructions. I quit smoking for this and am determined to get to goal wait even if it is slower going. I'll be watching and waiting to hear how things go for you! -
I'm 7 years out and have done pretty good with keeping the weight off. I haven't stayed at my lowest but my surgeon said it's totally normal to gain some weight back. I'm going in on Tuesday for a revision to bypass due to severe GERD. I'd love to drop and keep off another 25 pounds. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm bringing my smart phone, an extra long charging cord and my noise cancelling headphones for my entertainment. When I had my sleeve I had other stuff with me but didn't touch it. You'll be busy just sipping and walking. I'm having my revision to bypass on Tuesday and don't have much in my backpack. Pajama pants, underwear, socks, a small bottle of my lotion and the pre and post-op information they told me to bring with. I may add a small thing or two but nothing major. It's still Winter here but I'm leaving my Winter coat at home since it's a super short drive. The less we bring the better! Oh yeah, I am going to bring my own pillow, as suggested by my surgeon's nurse. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Proximal to Distal Revision... expectations?
Nifer72 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone! I'm scheduled for my revision on March 21, 2022. I had my original surgery 21 years ago! My sw prior to the first surgery was 375, in the first year I lost 100lbs getting down to 275... my lowest weight since then was 248 due to an illness. I've bounced up and down between 250 and 280 since then. I am a diabetic, have Gerd and was just diagnosed with very slow motility (my pcp says gastroparesis but my surgeon just says slow motility). When I started the process for revision (7months ago) my surgeon didn't think insurance would cover for just weight loss, but with further testing we discovered the digestion issue, his tune changed and surgery was approved! I know a lot has changed with protocols in the last 21 years! I see my surgeon next week for pre-op so I will be asking him a lot, but wanted to find out from anyone who's had the proximal to distal revision as well: What was the recovery like for the distal revision compared to the original surgery? Did you have to spend anytime in the hospital? My surgeon already mentioned he does it outpatient and I should go home same day, which seems crazy to me! I know weight loss can be slower with a revision. How much did you lose and in what timeframe? Any other pieces of advice? I plan on strictly following the food phases that the nutritionist gave me and leaning toward the longest of the time frames she gave me... ie 2-3 weeks post op liquid, 4-8 weeks soft foods etc... I am determined to lose and get to a goal weight of 155-175 which my surgeon said was possible in our initial meeting 8 months ago. -

Advice for Sleeve Surgery February 28th
gabbykittyvsg replied to chowell12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've gotten great advice so far and I don't have any practical advice to add. I would like to say, enjoy the process as much as you can. I know it sounds weird but when I had my sleeve surgery 7 years ago I rushed things and kept thinking about the next step. For my revision to bypass on Tuesday the 1st, I treated myself to new pajama pants to take to the hospital, I bought exciting flavors of protein shakes. My backpack is going to be light... Phone, long charging cord, lip balm, my noise cancelling headphones to help block out some of the hospital noises, my 3 ring binder of surgery info, pajama pants and not much else. I've had 2 endoscopies and another unrelated procedure in the past few months and I did much better with letting myself relax. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app
