Also stomach gurgling like crazy
Arabesque replied to lboston's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, the gurgling, growling, whining, squelching, etc. is just your digestive system working as it should. It very rarely means you’re hungry as many people think it does. I say I have a personal poltergeist inside rattling the chains. Yep, it can be embarrassing & I have apologised especially to new people, like my new brow lady last week. I’m pretty used to it now. My little nieces & nephews think it’s hilarious. Have you spoken to your surgeon about the frequent bowel movements? I’m presuming they’re loose/diarrhoea & if so you could have a intolerance to something you’re eating - lactose & certain artificial sweeteners are often the culprits. The concern is as a result you aren’t absorbing the nutrients you need as well as you should. -
Hi guys! I'm all sorts of confused... I just reached 2 weeks post-op. My surgeon cleared me to go back to the gym. Prior to the surgery, I was working out daily 7 days a week lifting weights and throwing in some random cardio for a month and a half straight. In my past, I've consistently gone to the gym for Zumba classes, but obviously through-out the years I would commit and other times I wouldn't. This has been on and off for like the past 10 years. But I was able to go today and I did the same exact weight routine prior to my surgery and I felt absolutely fine! No pain. No issues. HERE'S WHERE I'M CONFUSED! I came across this surgeon who does NOT encourage you work out. He goes through all the "myths" of working out. I primarily want to work out like I was before because of 1- loss skin prevention and 2- better weight loss. HOWEVER after watching his video -- I'm confused. He's absolutely right -- when you work out, you burn X amount of calories, but with a VSG, and since I'm so fresh out of surgery, I can't possibly eat more than I'm supposed to in order to prevent the stomach from stretching...and on top of that -- I have such a limited amount of nutrients coming in since I'm only eating 3 times a day 1/2 a cup of food. And I'm worried about stretching out my stomach I mean I can't even eat and drink at the same time anymore because we're told not to. There's no way to eat more unless I bump it up to 4-5 times a day of eating (but that's stage 3 of the diet and that begins in 3 weeks). And also another myth -- skin doesn't have muscle, so how can you tighten your loose skin (if and when you get there). But I see so many overweight people who have gone to the gym and don't have loose skin. I see other surgery patients who never went to the gym and have so much loose skin. So yeah...I'm really confused as to what to do. I'm barely at my beginning, so I'd love to find an answer as to what path I should take, but I'm not an expert and I don't have all the answers. I know I need to consult with my nutritionist and possibly a personal trainer (but their sole purpose is gym-related) but my surgeon okayed it and encouraged it...

No way! That’s one of the best parts of what we’ve all been through-being able to show off our bodies and not needing to cover up in loose clothing anymore. You look amazing, keep up what you’re doing :)

One year post op -image problem
lizonaplane replied to JEANMR1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same issues. I keep thinking when I put my size 10/12 clothes on that they're so small there's no way they will fit, but they do. I alternate between seeing myself as really a lot different and seeing myself as huge in the mirror. I still have a lot of fat in my tummy (and a lot of loose skin) so it's hard to imagine I am actually SMALLER than the average person now! -
Hi Everyone, I'm in the UK and due to have my surgery on the 24th May. I started my liquid diet yesterday and the nerves are now starting to set in although the excitement of finally loosing this weight is a much stronger feeling.

Coping with grief after WLS
LouLouM replied to Starwarsandcupcakes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so very sorry for your loss, Star Wars & Cupcakes. I had gastric sleeve surgery on November 30th and very tragically lost my younger brother and only sibling on April 12th. The grief can be unbearable and I often feel so much anxiety that I want to crawl out of my skin. So I decided to join a running (for me, walk/run) group 5 Weeks to 5K training. I did it so that I could release some of this painful anxiety, sleep better, and be around a supportive group of people in beautiful nature (lucky me I get to run near the ocean and in redwood forests). I even got my 70 year old mom to join it with me! In addition to that I walk with both of my parents as much as I can. We are heartbroken, our lives changed forever so suddenly, and the exercise, nature, and supportive group of people has been very therapeutic. (((HUGS))) Star Wars & Cupcakes, and thanks for starting this thread for other people to refer to in the future. -
What to eat in the soft food stage?
Vivis replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS ABOUT TO POST ABOUT. I have the SAME questions as you. Here are my thoughts/questions: I'm 1 day shy of A WHOLE MONTH of the liquid diet. Tomorrow is my 2 week post op check up and I'm ASSUMING that's where my doctor will HOPEFULLY move me to the stage 2 soft food stage. I'm allowed to eat: "Chopped, ground or pureed soft moist" meats, poultry and fish (I WAS LOOKING AT GROUND TURKEY AND GROUND CHICKEN, I HADN'T THOUGHT OF TUNA! WHAT OTHER SOFT MEATS ARE THERE? DELI MEATS?) Tofu Scrambled eggs Cottage cheese Low-fat soft cheese (IS THIS THE BAYBEL CHEESE CIRCLES? WHAT OTHER CHEESES ARE SOFT?) Cooked vegetables without strings, seeds or skin (WHICH VEGGIES ARE THESE? CANNED VEGGIES SEEM LIKE AN EASY IDEA. BUT WHAT FRESH VEGGIES? POTATOES? CARROTS? ZUCCHINI? CUCUMBER?) Canned or soft fresh fruits (WHAT FRESH FRUITS? BANANAS?) Cream of wheat or oatmeal -
98% ready, then the 2% doubt starts creeping in....

Hello! I too was like you, lucky to not really have any health problems. I did have borderline high blood pressure. Also, GERD which may or may not be weight related. But, I justified it by knowing my family genes and that my time would be coming. Everyone is my family is obese and they ALL have a list of health problems. I knew if I didn't do something to loose weight and keep it off that my day was coming. I would wake up and have all kinds of issues. I am not about 7 weeks post-op and I have NO REGRETS! There is also risks because because you are healthy the risks get lower. You have to do what is right for you but I am pro surgery! -

Surgery midweek-eek and yay-big change at older age
Whats Next posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgery is coming fast, it was moved up via a cancellation to next week, eek! I’m a combo of fear of the unknown, and calmness of giving it up to the professionals to care for me. I’m over 60 and really never considered I could stop the diet cycle by having WLS. A family member had it, and was happy they did it, this and knowing a few WLS veterans happy with their surgery, spurred me on to do gastric bypass. They had a good recovery with no issues. I’m hoping for a great outcome and that it resolves my Gerd and sleep apnea in time as well. I fear pain, hair loss, complications, how I’ll feel about all that skin, regrets. I look forward to many positive body changes, more energy, onederland, not being obese, cuter clothes 😀 I appreciate everyone sharing here! I’ve learned a lot. -
I am 63 next month and had a sleeve. After loosing 80 + pounds I feel 20 years younger and loving life

On the losers bench
summerseeker replied to Possum220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whoop whoop Possum, see you on the loosing team. Keep us posted -
Do you use the grill on the 4" or 1" setting? Also do you use the regular high power level, so just put it in and hit cook time -> 5 -> start? Finally what seasoning do you use? I'm thinking of mixing it up a bit so might try this. When I use the pressure cooker, I put the fish skin side down on the bottom of the pot, pour on some teriyaki sauce, and that's it. I usually do 5 or 6 minutes total with quick release at the end and it's great, no additional sauce or seasoning.

Dr Sanborn - Chattanooga TN
Weightloss55 replied to Weightloss55's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi everyone. Hope you all are doing well! I complete my post op next month and hope to get insurance approval and survey date. There is a lot of turnover at Dr. Sanborn’s office so having difficulty getting responses and calls returned from my coordinator. Any suggestions? Oh - I decided to have a bypass as it will allow me to loose the most weight and I’ve been feeling some reflux. Thanks again! -

Is there anyone having surgery in July

I am scheduled to have my surgery on July 5th and I'm not sure if I should start to diet now to loose weight before surgery. What are your thoughts are you doing anything special to loose some weight before surgery? -
Liver shrinking DIET pre-RNY
liveaboard15 replied to Mariann812's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are starting the pre op diet already? Even before your surgery is scheduled possibily for mid June? seems very early especially with your low BMI. For most its 1 week or 2 weeks before surgery date. But of course i am no surgeon lmao. Good luck!! You loose weight pretty fast during the pre op diet. I lost i think 12lb during my two week liquid diet. -
Im having a really hard time with this... I have had my mind set on going with the gastric sleeve for months. Now the past month right before surgery Im thinking more going bypass as Im seeing bigger weight loss.... I need to loose 200-230 lbs. I know they are both tools and will give me what I put into it but I dont want to get a life changing surgery if I am only going to loose some of what I need to. On top of that im really scared of the bypass for some reason....

Has anyone else noticed that if you go a day and rev up your calories then it seems to help you loose more weight after
SleeverSk replied to brewer76's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You will pretty much loose weight no matter what you eat up to the 6 month mark (unless you go crazy ) enjoy it while you can it's slows down very dramatically after the 6 month mark ( depending on your start weight of course) so my surgeon said expect to loose 30% of your body weight. Which I have done but I would still like to loose another 10kg. -
Hi I am always worried about weight gain after my surgery I am 4 months post op , and there's days that go by and I only eat very few calories but all from healthy foods and there is usually one day out of the week that I feel that I m like a little piggy , and I m scared to death to get on the scale the next day but it's CRAZY because instead of gaining any weight I actually usually loose more? Has anyone else been seeing this? Sent from my REVVL V+ 5G using BariatricPal mobile app

I will eat real food again right?
mizzkp replied to Kmack2015's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes you will eat again! I’m 9 weeks post op and I’m not cleared for a full diet but I still get to eat things that I enjoy and still fit my program. Just hang in there. Time moves so fast so take it one day at time. Once you start to loose the weight it will help motivate your brain to just keep going. -
Exercise after revision
Ninabnina77 replied to follmerpa's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am the opposite of you, I am also looking to get a revision, except I am worried about losing weight too fast. I want to slow but steady weight loss journey so my skin will not hang too much. So maybe slow weight loss is not such a bad thing after all. But I am sure you can speed it up by doing all the things you mentioned religiously.[emoji3590][emoji120] Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Cheating on your partner after weight loss
lizonaplane replied to Marissa37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, this is not the same thing, since we're not married, but when I met my amigovio, I was about 220 lbs. He likes bigger women, and he liked me at that size. During our relationship I gained weight and lost weight from 180-280. Before I decided to have WLS, I asked him if he'd still like me if I lost weight, since I'd no longer be big. He said, "you'll still be cute!" It really was a relief, because even though we're not officially a couple, he's a huge part of my life, and I don't want to lose him. I just saw him again weighing 170ish (we live in different states; this has only brought us closer), and he still loves me. I asked about the lose skin and he said he saw it but it was worth it for how important the weight loss was for me. He also loves that now I'm able to keep up with him when we're walking. He also finishes my food now, instead of the other way around! (He's got a BMI of 18, so he can eat whatever he wants LOL) So, the moral of the story is that if your boo really loves you, he will love the new you, too. He will be happy you are working hard to improve your life. And anyway, most people who have wls don't end up "thin"! -
SO FLIPPING COLD!
Wahinebythesea replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was stuck outside a lot this winter, and I was cold even INDOORS so I tried a bunch of different types of base layer clothing. These were my favourites - I almost forgot how great they were until one day I forgot to put them on, and just about froze to death. Wearing them inside under my ordinary clothing is the only time I'm actually "comfortable / toasty". I still don't understand how they work so well. They are made of wool and aren't scratchy to my skin, but if you have allergies / sensitive skin, they might not work for you (they are wool, after all :).
