Hey Long Termers - What are your macros now?
The Greater Fool replied to Ylime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
18 years... I don't count anything but meals of which I try to eat three per day. Meals are pretty much what they've always been since surgery: protein at about 3-4 oz and veggies/other an ounce or so. I don't measure, it's all just habit now. I rarely eat snacks. My weight stays fairly consistent where it has been for the last 15(?) years, which is a bit lower than my original super-wish goal. I couldn't even entertain the possibility I would be where I am now. My mental image of myself is beginning to sync with my physical self which is a weird sensation after all this time. Good luck, Tek -
10 years post gastric bypass surgery !! having a hard time finding love
StratusPhr replied to ATHENA LEIGH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a sleeve to bypass revision 7 weeks ago. I can only eat about 1 oz of food at a time. I've tried three different protein shakes, they all literally make me sick after about 1/4 of the shake. I can feel it churning and gurgling in my chest. I can't get my protein in with just food. I am not getting all my supplements taken, it's like eating a meal taking the big calcium pills. I really am frustrated. I need to weigh or measure everything I put in my mouth, which is fine. I was severely dehydrated last weekend. I should have gone to the ER but the wait time is up to 10 hours. I knew I wasn't drinking enough. I didn't know how to prioritize supplements, protein and drinking. My skin was very dry, my lips stayed chapped for two weeks prior to the sudden onset of uncontrollable vomiting and an instant pounding headache. Not a migraine but a headache that I couldn't get rid of. That was Saturday a week ago. I talked to my surgeon in Dallas Sunday. He wasn't to make sure my abdomen wasn't hurting. He said if I started running a fever 100 or above get to the ER. I'm 2.5 hours away from him. I started doing better, I was drinking Pedialyte mixed with no sugar added grape juice like crazy. I ended up drinking 2.5 bottles, 33.8 oz each, and grape juice and two cups of lactose free milk every day. I'm back to eating again, trying to. I've thrown up twice today, I woke up at 4:30 AM yesterday and threw up. I haven't had nearly enough to drink, eat and I've taken 1/3 of the calcium I should be taking. Any advice at all? Thank you. -
Not losing anything??

mine lasted two weeks. But they last for three weeks for some people. -
Not losing anything??
catwoman7 replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's almost certainly the three week stall. Happens to almost all of us. If you do a search on it on this site, you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). It usually lasts 1-3 weeks, so you should be at or near the end of it. I dropped about 6-8 lbs in just a couple of days after mine ended. -
October surgery friends??
Letseeaboutthis replied to LyricalWarfare's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also scaled back on introducing new food and went back to the soft food phases for a few days and I also increased my protein intake. For three days , I did all water and protein, no extra snacks. This seemed to help tremendously. -
Questions about weight gain due to SSRI’s like Paxil before surgery…HELP!
Summermoose replied to Renske's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hoi Renske! I’m Dutch too 😁 I know this isn’t exactly what you were looking for since I am no longer on Paxil, but I did gain a solid 15 kg on it. I was already well into the obese range when I started taking it though. After quitting (slowly over the course of three months) I didn’t have much success in shedding that weight and actually gained even more.. but I used to self-soothe with food. The weight is flying off now (4.5 months po), and it feels like my metabolism has had a big kick in the butt 😄 -
How much weight did you lose per month after 6 months?
Arabesque replied to Rey Rodriguez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are a couple of things you can pretty much depend upon after weight loss surgery. One: the more you have to lose the faster you’ll lose at the beginning. Two: the heady exciting weight loss rate you have at the beginning doesn’t continue. Three: the closer you are to your goal weight the more slowly you’ll lose. Welcome to experiencing the frustration of number three. The scale that hardly moves. Your goal weight is just there in touching distance. The days & weeks slowly pass with little to show…. But don’t worry, you will get there. Your weight loss is slowing because you’re eating more & are getting to the point where you are consuming the number of calories your body needs to function. Congrats on your weight loss so far. Whoo hoo! -
I had this problem between the two and three month mark--mine was caused by a combination of acid reflux and some food intolerances that have since seemingly resolved themselves already. It's really important to talk to your treatment team; the suggestions and adjustments mine prescribed to me helped a LOT.

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Frazzled replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in this same boat - I lost 26+ pounds and over 9 inches and now nothing. I am counting what I eat, and have also increased the frequency and distance I am walking (1.1 miles per day plus whatever I do during the day). I am exactly three weeks out from surgery today and I am stuck. Will put a note into my surgeon's office and see how they can help. -
well I'm three months post op, i lost 50 pounds and fast, then it slowed to a crawl, I still can't eat much, and I watch what i eat. and now I finally got my metabolism back to normal, as of a week ago, and now feel great. and i know that will help with the weight loss too, and yes I have loss a lost of hair, oh well

So I’m coming up on my three year mark. I had my gastric bypass March 27,2019. I started above 330lbs and got down to 214lbs. Found out I was pregnant a month before my one year post op. During my pregnancy I could tell my pouch was “more relaxed” to allow me to eat more to make sure my baby got what he needed. I got rid of my diabetes and high blood pressure before pregnancy and developed gestational towards the end so I was induced and I gave birth September 30, 2020 and I tried breastfeeding which made me always hungry still. I stopped because I was unable to produce but I am still so hungry. My weight has stayed at 224-227lbs since birth. But I wanted to do a pouch reset. I tried it before but my stomach would burn and I’d feel nauseous and uncomfortable. I didn’t know if anyone else has experienced that. I stopped after a couple days because it was a terrible feeling. I didn’t know if I should “push thru” it and keep going because it’s normal or not.

Don't worry about getting it perfect, just do the best you can at most of it, like MiniDude said 80%. I never got three meals in a day. I'm not that kind of a girl. I'll get two meals in and two snacks but not an actual third meal. The exercise is beneficial for your mental health as well as physical health, but if you had to slack on one, this one would be the best to slack on. PRotein is easy to get in with protein shakes, protein bars, and protein-heavy foods. The 64 oz of water a day takes some getting used to, but once you reach that level it's easy to maintain. Just sip, sip, sip all day long, constantly and consistently. And stuff like broth and sugar free popsicles counts as water/liquids. You can do it, it just takes practice. None of us did it magically overnight.

Feb 2022 Surgery date, new here
MimmyMim replied to LookingForward22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I saw your post and just wanted to share that I can relate! I am scheduled for February 3, and I have been so excited. I have loved all of the “getting ready” tasks, as I felt like I was taking control. But as the surgery date gets closer, I am getting anxious. I had emergency abdominal surgery four years ago that led to a two week hospital stay and three month recovery. I keep thinking about that time period, and it really makes me nervous. I am talking to a therapist, and that is definitely helping. So, I don’t have advice for you, but I wanted to share that I definitely understand the worry! Over the past few days, I have gone back to “getting ready”. I set up my journal for meal planning, weight loss tracking, measurement tracking, goals, etc. I have started ordering supplies, such as toddler plates, little forks, small containers, etc. I am about to get sample packets of the various protein shakes my doctor recommends so I will know what I like. All of this is reminding me that I am making a choice to take action to improve my health, and that puts my mind at ease. -
I'm about 3.5 months out, and have always struggled to eat the amounts of food that my dietician wants me to aim for. It is getting better, though! I'm almost up to a whole cup, which felt impossible even a couple of weeks ago. My priorities are protein, vitamins and water, and I manage to double up on the protein and water by drinking protein-water which gives me my baseline 60g of protein each day. That frees me up to add extra protein via food and protein-fortified soy milk, without me feeling like I'm a bloated sack all day. I take all my supplements before bed once I know I'm finished my daily water intake. I try to eat nutritious meals three times a day with varying degrees of success in terms of quantity. I don't beat myself up about it if I don't manage a lot, and neither does my dietician. I'm getting my protein, water, and supplements in and that's the most important thing. Exercise I do every afternoon in the form of a good walk. Pop my headphones on and out I go. I enjoy this chance to unwind the mind. Ultimately, don't beat yourself up! I don't think any of us crack on out the gate with perfection. The post-op life has goals and milestones, and so long as you're trying your best, things will improve and click into place. Heartily recommend the protein water though. Two birds with one stone has definitely made it all a bit easier!

Hello, I am 3 months out from surgery (rny). We have the priorities of 1. Getting enough protein in a day 2. Taking all our meds 3. Getting 64oz of liquids 4. Exercise 5. Three meals a day. How the heck do you balance all this?? I feel like if I do good with one thing one day, I am not doing the others. This clearly takes dedication. But give me some tips and tricks that can help a lady out please. What made you all successful? Thanks in advance!

it took me 20 months to lose all my weight, and the last three or four months were slow as molasses. I was eating more than 680 calories, though. I was eating more like 1200. the closer you are to a normal BMI, the harder and slower it is to lose weight. Three to five lbs a month is actually pretty good. There were some months near the end when I only lost about 2 lbs the whole month. ever go to Weight Watchers meetings and listen to these barely overweight people scream and moan about how hard it is to lose 10 lbs? I used to (mentally) roll my eyes when I overheard such conversations. Now I totally get it. just stick to your plan. It'll be slow, but you'll get there.

1 Year Post OP and I think I am alcoholic
Prestonandme replied to Coexister's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had battled alcohol problems long before WLS also due to PTSD and physical ailments. After WLS I gave up alcohol for a year and a half, but due to a series of crises this year, I began to "drink-medicate" again -- just to escape the terrible feelings of stress, anxiety, fear, and sadness. "It's only a couple of glasses," I'd reason wrongly. But I had two binge drinking episodes after sudden crises that finally provoked me to give up alcohol altogether. The first caused me to end up in urgent care, with elevated liver enzymes. The second caused me to fall and get a gash across my forehead. Because I am an atheist, I wouldn't consider AA. But I was directed to an amazing book called "Alcohol Explained: Understand Why You Drink and How to Stop" by William Porter. All I can say is it is absolutely incredible and since I finished the book, I haven't touched alcohol and don't intend to again. Porter explains what really happens when we drink: the wonderful calming and relief from worries... followed hours later by an increase in anxiety, depression, and hangovers as our brains readjust to the alcohol (which is a toxin). So the vicious cycle begins -- drink to stop the bad feelings... the bad feelings get worse after the drink effects go away... requiring us to drink again... etc. And there's so much more to it, too. Porter does not believe that alcoholism is a disease (the AA model does) but it is a behavior that can be changed through learning, reframing, and changing behaviors. I can't recommend this book enough. Lastly, something I should have been thinking about all this time... Before WLS, my surgeon told me he had only had one patient die after the surgery. The man binge-drank a few times over a three month period and succumbed from alcohol poisoning. His new body couldn't handle the volume of alcohol he used to drink prior to the surgery. We never think such a thing could happen to us but... now I know. -
Am I really gonna lose weight?
vikingbeast replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@MelanatedQueen It's totally the three-week stall. Your body is rebalancing its fluid levels and stuff. While there's some variation (hello, hormones...), generally the rule is CICO (calories in calories out). If you're eating 500 cal a day, there is no way you're not going to lose weight. Even if you're very petite, your body requires a certain number of calories just to exist, and 500 is below that number. If you get through another three weeks without moving, talk to your surgeon, but nearly everyone breaks that stall in a week or two. -
Sleeve vs Bypass concerns
GradyCat replied to ht1976's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I wanted gastric bypass but two of my healthcare providers convinced me to do the "less radical" thing of sleeve surgery instead. I was a 40 BMI, not huge but still morbidly obese but not too many comorbidities to be concerning. I had the sleeve and I have no regrets. It works! It's a tool - the work of eating right was still up to me. Three years post-op it still works for me and keeps me from overeating. Either surgery is good and ultimately it's up to you. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
ClareLynn replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the loop DS 7 weeks ago and have lost 33 lbs (83 total). My three week stall ended up lasting a while 3 weeks. 😅 I am really happy with my progress. I feel well. My face looks like me again, and I keep sitting awkwardly on my now saggy stomach. I can still only eat 1.5oz at a meal and am not hitting any goals but the surgeon is happy with my progress. -
I used Nuffield through a company called Healthier Weight that was recommended by my surgeon, this was after being told in July that the NHS waiting list was at least three years and I decided that was too long to wait to get my life back together. My operation was in November so I didn't have long to wait in the grand scheme of things and I can't fault any of the care I have received.

Congratulations!! This makes me so happy for you! Especially that you‘re bettering your relationship with food. Thats huge! I‘m curious. Have you had any weight stalls? I‘m plus/minus around the same time as you and I‘m currently in my second three week long ish stall 😬

Panniculectomy worth it?
catwoman7 replied to Writergirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
yes - lower body lifts are pretty painful. My arm lift and breast lift were much easier - but I think it has to do with the liposuction and muscle tightening they do with a lower body lift. I had to use a walker and a toilet seat riser for several days - and those first couple of nights were AWFUL. But....it does end, and in the end, the results were worth it (I had my LBL three years ago - and the arm & breast lift two years ago)
