Yea, I dont "count" fat either. But, it helps cut the calories so naturally I am just lower fat.. myself too.. its not soo bad. HAHA
  2. a few "meals" the past few days. - egg and cheese quesadilla with some buffalo wing chips - chicken fingers made out of leftover fried chicken drumsticks (removed meat from bone, battered and deep fried) with some ketchup - store bought sour dough baguette slices more leftover chicken (skin removed) tossed in mayo and seasonings and topped with raw asparagus. **calorie count in this pic depicts what i actually ATE vs the initial portion. - prosciutto slices and extra old cheddar cheese.
  3. If I didn’t want others blabbing my sleeve surgery I got June 21, 2023 to other people they trust with their secrets… I better just keep quiet. My closest best friend of 15yrs knows and my fiancΓ©. That’s all….. I feel bad cause I haven’t even told my parents or sister..yet. I told everyone including my coworkers I had Hiatal Hernia repair (that covers why I was in the hospital and why I was off). I am getting married Sept 22, 2023. I just tell coworkers I’m on some crazy awesome bridal diet. Lol … of course they ask β€œwhat type of diet”. I just say low calorie, low sugar, low fat, smaller portions, no fast food and walking. I’m not completely lying …right? Lol But in a few months I do plan to tell my parents and sister. The guilt is killing me! Lol :)

@GreenTealael I buy Butterball lean ground turkey and it is way less calories than what you posted here?? (And more protein) Maybe you aren't buying the lean? (purposely for burgers?)

    benefiber or metamucil?

Colace 2xs a day in the morning and afternoon seem to work well for me since surgery. Getting all my water in and eating veggies and occasional fruit seem to keep me moving like clockwork every morning. I still drink a 30g protein shake daily which frees me up to eat a bit more low calorie veggies and less meat that can lead to constipation.

That was me too. I bounced between 60-75kg (healthy weight to overweight range) most of my life but peri menopause then menopause & suddenly I was obese. Could lose a couple of kilos but would take several weeks & that as on those extremely low calories diets of 500 calories a day too. I’d gain the weight back like in days. The surgery boosted my metabolism & I keep it burning by eating regularly now - no more meal skipping for me which was how I used to try to maintain my weight. The fatigue will improve as you begin to eat more each day. Try an electrolyte drink to give you a boost on days you need a little more energy. You may be able to start some fruit soon. I think I could from my third month. Check with your dietician. The sad news the weights won’t help with your loose skin. It will only help with the muscular structure under your skin which has been stretched out. My arms are quite nicely toned from using resistance bands. I even get compliments which I think is hilarious as my loose skin is still there but then I don’t wave my arms about too much πŸ˜‰. Only way to get it rid of it is surgery. All the best with your progress.

    Surgery Failure

Here's my concern with what you just said. If it says 25 carbs, you will drink it. But what about carbs in other things? Are you staying below your allotted carb count for the entire day, or are you counting the carbs based on each individual item and not the entire day as a whole? Your allotted carbs for the entire day are much lower than they were pre-surgery, so make sure you're paying attention to that and staying at or below your carb amount for the whole day. For me, I can't go above 50 carbs for the whole day, but I tend to stay at around 30 for the day. You have to watch the protein, fat, carb, and calorie intake now. My nutritionist said my allowable numbers are: Calories - no more than 500 calories per day (based on being where you're at in the process)m carbs: 50 or less, fat: 50 or less, and protein: 60-90g. I just had my revision, so I'll have to start my process over once I'm done with all liquids, but given the guidelines, there's no way I would ever drink anything that was 15, 20, or 25 carbs per serving.

I am a diabetic or have been, since the surgery sugar has been no higher than 98 when I check it. But with that said, I have been trained like other diabetics to count carb count by how much the total grams of carbs are in something by the label on the back with all the nutrient info on the back. Example if its has 25 grams of carb i will drink it but anything else like that for that day I wont consume. I do the same with the calories. I try not to eat something that has more than 300 calories total.

How are you measuring calories and carbs? The statement "gerber apple juice, which doesn't have much carbs" is making me a little curious.

.I had my sleeve done on May third. I am 60 and have been in menopause for 8 years. I have never been heavy til menopause happened. 3 weeks before my surgery i started my pre diet. I ate 540 calories a day of protein and very low carbs. On my surgery day I had only lost 1 pound :(. I feel that with age also comes the slower metabolism. I am doing okay with the weight lose. I am a vegetarian, so it is interesting not getting to eat any fruit. But I am sticking to the strict diet given by my doctor. Only 1/4 cup a meal. I have been lift 5 pound arm weights as I know my arms are going to have alot of excess skin. It is strange to see my skin as it appears I am like a deflating ballon :). It is alot to get used to. My fatique is off the chart, but I am doing the best I can. One day at a time

    Surgery Failure

It's only been a month and a half. Way way too early to decide the surgery has been a fail. You could be having hormone issues, water weight, or it could be a natural fluctuation. I always gained 4-6 pounds when a stall hit and then when it broke, I'd immediately lose that weight plus an additional 2-3 pounds right off the bat. How is your exercising? How often are you eating? Are you dinking anything carbonated? How are your calories and carbs?
  13. It's 6 months since my mini gastric bypass. I have lost total of 55 Kg or 121.25 lbs. My weight loss trend is still hovering around 6 Kg (13.2 lbs) loss/month. But from last 3 months, I have seen increase in my hunger. In terms of percentage, the increase would be 20 % as compared to the 3 months back. Is this normal? I am also spending a lot of time for workout - around 6 hours of cardio and 12 hours for strength training + HIIT + weights every week. Not sure if that along with muscle i am developing is causing this hunger? or maybe its normal? Also, lost my job to layoffs recently but finances are not an issue. So just trying to maintain calm and avoid any emotional eating. My current weight is 92.5 Kg or 203.5 lbs. Should I get my metabolism evaluated to see my calorie requirement or wait upto 1 year for weight to stabilize? I had my surgery outside country of residence due to surgery wait times. I do teleconference with bariatric surgeon every 3 months, but no in person visit option available. Please suggest. Thank you
  14. I recently had the surgery on May 25th of this year. So far I have lost 30-40 pounds. However yesterday I weighed and have gained 5 pounds. I have only been eating baked chicken and fish and maybe some steamed or boiled shrimp. The surgeon/Dr. desk lady thinks it may be fluid based off she said it seems like I follow most of the diet plan. I make sure I consume no more than 400 calories a day and that whatever juice I drink is only 10-20 grams of carbs. But I don't think my surgery is successful.

3 Months Post Op….. and PREGNANT!?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Yes, lots of women have become pregnant early on because of the hormonal flush of oestrogen post surgery from your weight loss. It can make you extra fertile. The pregnancy will slow your weight loss but it doesn’t mean it’s all over or you will gain lots of weight again. Check with your dietician about your nutritional needs during the pregnancy & keep regular appointments. You actually don’t need to consume that many additional calories - you’re not eating for two adults. The aches in your hips & back can be from your weight loss. It’s quite common. Some even talk about their balance being off & walking into walls, etc. Your centre of gravity is changing & your posture is improving. Your muscles, tensions & ligaments are relearning how to carry & hold your much smaller body. I used to kick my toes against my kitchen cabinets because my tummy was much smaller & didn’t reach the bench top before my feet anymore. So silly but was about being aware of my smaller body. A friend & I also found we’d initially slouched more because we didn’t have a tummy to prop us up anymore. We had to consciously adjust our posture & build up our core muscles. Try some gentle stretching & use some resistance bands. I do mine lying on the floor so not strenuous at all & some can be done sitting down. All the best.

    Sun drains me.

The preop diet puts you at a severe calorie deficit in order to shrink your liver by forcing it to give up fat. And this can be very shocking to the body. You’re also preparing for a major surgery on the body so I would just take it easy. I did a lot of Internet surfing and general office work.
  17. Hey guys, Apologies for not updating this thread. I've been personally struggling with this weight loss despite everything. I've lost a bit more weight, but even with the help of the dietician, the weight loss is incredibly slow and it's still making me feel like a failure. On average it seems like I lose about 3 pounds a month despite the high protein intake, small meals, liquids and exercise. Today I woke up feeling particularly upset, as I started a 4 mile walking challenge to see if I could walk four miles every day for a week (in the morning). Today is Wednesday (day 3) and before i started walking, I decided to weigh myself. I've put on 2 and a half pounds since this SATURDAY just gone! I weighed myself yesterday morning too and I've put on a pound since then. I won't lie. I just burst into tears. I feel like i've been doing everything right. I'm burning around 3500 calories a day, according to my Fitbit watch. I'm eating/drinking between 50-80g of protein. I'm drinking my 2 liters of liquids and I'm still eating from a side plate, always prioritizing the protein first. I'm doing everything, but I feel like my body is rebelling against me. Everything in my being is telling me to start fasting and to start doing liquid diets/slimfast shakes again, but because I have a history of eating disorders, I don't want to lean back into old habits in order to lose weight. I bought slimfast meals two weeks and did the liquid diet/pouch reset for two days and lost a pound and a half - but I don't want to rely on only having liquids in order to lose weight. I've been loitering between 243-240lbs for over a MONTH now with no budge. I'm so disappointed in myself and it feels like all the exercise i'm doing is in vain. Has anyone gone through similar? Edited to add: My goal weight is 215lbs. Being bigger/curvy runs in my family, and I actually like being a little bigger as I find curves attractive so I purposely did not want to be unrealistic when setting my final goal. I've read elsewhere on the forum that weight loss can be harder when you're getting nearer to your goal or when you're in the last 20-30lbs of weight loss. Is this true?

    Normal? Suggestions?

I had a hard time with the soft food phase too. I was REALLY looking forward to a deviled egg, but now eggs make me nauseous, and I was sick of yogurt. Mashed potatoes were allowed, but not encouraged because of the carbs, so I would have mashed potatoes with cheese or with unflavored protein powder and garlic every couple days and Tyson has a flavorful frozen chicken fajita that I heat with bone broth to make it moist and soft and chew the heck out of it. I got bored with refried beans really quick but adding taco sauce and cheese helped. If you like to cook (I don't) you can find a lot of things you can do with foods to make them more appealing. My phase 3 allowed meats other than beef, which was restricted to once a month. I was supposed to work up to it, but I added it pretty quick because I tolerated it well. Maybe you are allowed a turkey burger as long as you chew it really well? I'm the type of person who craves when I can't have something, so I have to allow myself little cheats. I find that as long as I CAN, I can resist better and don't get carried away with the cheating. For example, I craved salt and would occasionally suck on a salt and vinegar chip or 3 until dissolved. Those salt cravings are almost non existent now. Talk with your dietitian about your cravings and alternatives. I confessed to her about the chips and that I found a carb conscious tortilla that I'd use 1/2 of for my refried beans. She was OK with it as long as I showed restraint and tolerated it. Keep those food logs up and don't lie to your dietitian. Being accountable will help you stick to your diet. They are there to help you, not judge you. At the tail end of my phase 3 when they upped my calorie and protein goals she allowed me to add nuts as long as I chew it into peanut butter consistency.
  19. on a food posting spree! Pastel de Nata (Portuguese egg custard tart). I didn't particularly like the pastry of this particular one so i just ate the middle/insides! couldn't find an MFP entry for "crustless egg tart", lol so i just used plain old "egg custard" to add to my food log. 98 calories???
  20. last night's dinner: Sashimi!!!! had 1 piece of each type except for the scallop and salmon cuz the Kid got to those before i did, lol. In total i had 6 pieces, estimated at probably 250 cals. Also, i ate all the Ikura (aka salmon roe/red caviar) off of the Kid's rice bowl cuz she says that eating Ikura feels like she's got "exploding fish-oil Pop Rocks" in her mouth! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ (she cracks me up) approx 3 tbsp of it for 120 cals. also had an extremely overpriced Shiso Margarita that was more straight-up sake-tasting than anything else πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ oh, and 1 slice of beef tataki. In all i figure all cals for dinner added up to about 575 calories for the night.
  21. I was wondering if any of you would be able to share some information with me regarding getting pregnant/pregnancy after a bypass (mgb or regular). I am so mentally ready to have a baby but all the unknowns are stressing me out! 1. Did you have to get cleared by your surgeon to start trying and if so, what did they check? 2. Did you work with a dietician to get the right nutrients/calories for yourself & your baby or did you figure it out yourself? 3. How much weight did you gain and did you lose it after? 4. Did you get followed up as a high risk pregnancy because of your bypass? 5. Did you have a caesarean because of your bypass? 6. Did you have complications related to your bypass? 7. Were there any effects on your baby related to your bypass? Thanks already for answering any questions, I appreciate it so much 😊
  22. speaking of leftovers... Mr. brought home a doggy bag of a souvlaki meal for me, but i really only wanted the pita. so i cut up what he brought home, sprinkled some olive oil and spices on it and air-fried it to crunchy. ate it with some homemade tzatziki (greek yogurt, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper) ate it all. p.s. i logged it as naan on MFP cuz it was alot thicker than a standard pita! 101 calories for it all.

    Question about (very) small regain

I usually have a +/-3 lb range unless I eat pickles lol. I love pickles but whenever I eat them, I always gain 5lbs temporarily. Not sure why because I do eat other salty foods but pickles really do the Water gain job on me. I looked it up a week or so ago, and it said that the average typical and normal weight fluctuation in a adult is 4 to 6 lbs a day. Unfortunately for me, I have to be hyper vigilant because of my history, so if I hit 3 or 4 lbs over my normal stable weight, and if it doesn't drop in a day or two, I cut calories for a few days just in case.

    Question about (very) small regain

Just noticed I said I gained 3 lbs it was about 3-5lbs (depending on the maths with my fluctuation πŸ˜‰). I sometimes can’t eat a full meal either which is why I also snack a few times a day - to get those calories in. I’m pretty controlling as to what, how much & when I eat my snacks & each has a purpose: adding extra protein & nutrients. My favourite snack at the moment is home made labneh on multigrain crackers with tomato, fresh basil & a sprinkle of zaatar - yum. I call them my midday snack but I eat them at 1pm with a large mug of green tea (it’s the only time I can eat & drink at the same time πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ). I also have things like nuts, fruit, protein bar, jerky, string cheese, occasionally roasted fava beans or chickpeas (easy if travelling). Slider foods are the devil’s work. Far too moreish & easy to eat too much. Rice crackers were my weakness. I still keep them in my house (with hummus) but for friends or family which is only when I’ll have some now. I have thrown out a couple of pots on unopened or barely touched expired hummus though. Sometimes being stubborn & pig heatedly determined can have its benefits. 😁

Lap Band: Am I Crazy to Consider It?

Sorry about your loss my friend. The two people I know that had the lap band, had to have them removed. (Also they are both heavy today). The people I know with the Sleeve, look skinny and are doing well. (albeit one died, but it was due to bullet wounds) When I researched all the different surgeries, too me, the Sleeve seems to make the most sense. I think its a good thing that they don't touch the entry and exit to the stomach. I think either of those parts being altered could cause a lot of problems...i'm not a doctor, but as an engineer it make sense to me. I think the lap band location is problematic for your body, and the entrance to your stomach. IMHO the gastric sleeve seems to be the best thing until that day, they can create a medicine that changes your genetics to permanently not allow your body to retain body fat, and instead you flushed extra calories as waste.
