My stalls last around 2-3 weeks - gotten to where I don't really consider them stalls, just the way my body is losing and readjusting. Gone from size 24 to size 14 in 5/12 months 61 pounds since surgery. For some that's slow losing but for me - just right! I do exercise - I make sure I walk at least 15 mins minimum everyday. Usually do alot more but that is the least I will do. 8-10 glasses of Water and 80-120 grams of Protein. Just figure out your body and how it loses and make adjustments until you feel great!

When Does Weight Loss Begin?
ibehere10 replied to Sharonisshrinking's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Put on 13 lbs from the fluids they pumped into me for the surgery. That was gone in about 8 or 9 days. Have list a total of about 43 lbs but as someone else said I am trying to stay away from the scale!! I am down three pant sizes which I am thrilled about . Surgery was 9/10. Hang in you will do great!! -
12 lbs in a week- IS THIS HEALTHY?
Dave_NW replied to faz1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's Water weight. Perfectly normal. (I lost 19 pounds my first two weeks after surgery.) It'll slow down, and eventually even stop. Hang in there. Your journey is just getting started. Dave -
I'll be 10 weeks out on Monday & I track EVERYTHING on MyFitnessPal & haven't missed a day since my pre-op diet started 12 weeks ago. It helps me to keep tracking because I can see what I eat & make sure I get enough protein & fluid in each day. I like seeing how different things influence my body & tracking helps.

I will be 7 weeks post op from my gastric bypass when my husband and I head out to Las Vegas in mid November. We are both on vacation and hunting for a home out there for 10 days which is the longest we have ever been there. I moved to the soft food stage last week and I am doing very well with most foods on the plan although eggs and I are having a love hate relationship. I love them, depending on how I eat them, they hate me. I am a little concerned about eating out that much while I am in Vegas and I am looking for some tips. My nutritionist suggested taking protein shakes and even some quest bars to ensure I keep up my protein. I do not eat beans of any kind, I just cannot get them down. Does anyone have some tips for eating out in restaurants at this stage? Seems crazy with what little i can eat to order meals. I am guessing you all have some experience with this? Thanks so much!

davidsmom08 replied to trina3613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the gas pains really bad for a full week...then 2 days of shoulder tip pain...that was REALLY bad...i would last about 10 minutes and go away for a couple of hours...I did take the gas-x strips and the chewables...a heating pad helps...walk walk walk. However, to sleep I had to take the liquid pain meds and I would wake just in time for the next dose. hope this helps...it will go away though -
Banded in July 08 and have only lost 10 pounds!! HELP!
lea2015 replied to Dee66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain. I was banded on Sept. 18th and have lost only 19 lbs. I lost the 19 with no issues between Sept and Nov. I have not lost anything since Thanksgiving. I have gone as far as joining weight watchers hoping that between the band and WW I will start losing. Why so some loose so my much and others seem to have issues loosing? I have 7 cc's in a 10 cc band and I am finally having some problems with certain foods. Sorry I was not able to give you any food advice but at least you know you are not alone. -
ok, so I'm still learning my band, will be 10 wks post op this Wed., have you ever experienced a bubbling or gurgling sound in your throat after eating or while eating? It's almost like a burping sensation but I can't burp and it makes a noise. Anyone?

Sleeved in October 2013...down 52 lbs. exercise regimen is a must.
Scarpediem posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
The VSG procedure has been the best decision of my life (other than marrying the love of my life). It is truly up to me how successful the surgery will be. The numbers on the scale went steadily down and I felt that there was no need to exercise, but when I saw the numbers level off, I had to admit that exercise is a big part of this journey. 10, 15, or 20 minutes a day makes a big difference....and it is so much easier to move. Besides this website and the Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve, I rely heavily on my fitness Pal and my fitbit. These tools really keep me in check as far as nutrition, how much I move in a day and my weight. I think if I had started an exercise regimen earlier, I would probably be another 10 lbs. lighter already. So I am looking forward to the spring weather to motivate me. My Dr. told me that My goal should be to lose another 35 by my surgiversary and I am determined to meet that goal. These forums are so motivating and inspirational to me and the challenges such as the Easter challenge really help to keep me in the game. Thanks to everyone for all of your posts, comments and advice. -
3rd fill and still hungry
Korilynn replied to menis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not just you. I've had 2 very agressive fills.. I have a little over 7ccs in a 10 cc band and I still don't have restriction. I can still eat bread, no problem. Sometimes I get a tiny bit stuck if I don't chew enough, but basically I can eat a lot if I chew well. I'm getting another fill on the 27th. I think it just varies from person to person. So don't stress, just keep getting filled until you feel like it's in a good spot! -
It's hard to believe when it's happening to you, but stalls do break. This first one lasted for 10 days. I dropped 2 pounds overnight. Let's see how long the loosing lasts.

Thanks guys for the responses. My girls are going to be 10 and 5, they are from China and we worked very hard to get them! I probably need to resign myself that I will need to wait and that it would be the best idea. I've waited since Nov of last year...what is a few more weeks? Thanks again, Tracy W.

Anyone post-op with GERD?
slvrsax replied to dreamgirl45's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same with me - pre-op I had GERD that presented as a chronic cough but never as heartburn. I had a cough for about 10 years. I was told many times it was allergies. My surgeon informed me I'd had acid for years and had built up scar tissue which he removed. Now I have full on heartburn but the cough is gone. I keep it in check with omeprazole 2X per day. If I miss a dose or 2 I can tell because I get heartburn that wakes me up at night and I don't want to eat. I am six months out of surgery. I had an upper GI recently and a biopsy to check for Barretts. I don't have Barretts but still have acid, on the mild end of the scale (it does not feel mild to me!) and a bit of gastritis. I also have gallstones, I would almost bet I had some gallstones presurgery. Otherwise - clean bill of health. I had my surgery in Mexico. -
Anyone post-op with GERD?
bikrchk replied to dreamgirl45's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually lived with pre-op GERD (silent reflux) mis-diagnosed as asthma for 10 years prior to surgery. Mine presents as chronic coughing rather than heartburn and is worse at night. They started me on Omeprazole right after my EGD and it made a big difference. For the first month post-op, it was worse. Bad enough that I had to raise the head of my bed with a couple of 6" lifts and double my Omeprazole to twice per day. However, once my stomach healed and the weight began to come off things got MUCH better. I was able to flatten my bed again and now, at 9 months out, only have a single night time does of Omeprazole. I'm hoping to be off of it all together in time. -
I too had a lingering cough from bronchitis for months. Eventually, We thought it was maybe reflux related, but turns out it was due to the blood pressure meds my Dr put me on. All of a sudden one day, I remembered her telling me that 10% of people develop a cough. Once I started another BP medication, the cough stopped. Are you on BP meds? Hello and welcome, I have had no problem with the lap band - however i haven't been at my sweet spot yet, i coasted for a while after initial weight loss then when i decided to get serious again I was following weight watchers. I have not put back on any weight that I have lost in a year which I think is absolutely thrilling. I intend to get to my sweet spot as I am going for a fill in a few weeks, had to partially defill prior to jaw surgery several weeks ago. I haven't been eating very much the last few weeks and have lost about 10 pounds so I'm not sure how the band impacts weight loss if one isn't eating - seems to be the same as without a band. good luck and hope you get more responses for support.

Don't get discouraged guys!!
stacey73 replied to bmoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Jill, I think that you are allready doing a fantastic job as you are aware of what you need to do. It isnt for anyone on this site to put people down as we all have needed help in one way or another and everyones needs are different. Having this Lap Banding done has been a mond blowing learning lesson as i thought i was eating quite healthy, but now am realising that i thought i was doing all the right things. I have lost about 15 kg's so far and was Banded on 12/02/10. My thoughts at the time were that i will loose it all in 6 months and allthough this sounds nice, i now dont want this. It took me years to put on all of this weight and it can take me 2 or more years to loose it and keep it off if at the end i am going to have a healthy mind and body. I wish you good luck Jill and everyone else on this forum and hope that we can all be supportive of each other instead of putting each other down. Good Luck :-) -
I'm doing about the same as you and I've only gained about 4 lbs in the last 2 months. I'm not going to sweat it though. Thanksgiving is 10 days away, Xmas is 7 weeks, no need to torture myself over the holidays. I'll just try to make wise decisions when I can and try to avoid the places where excessive sugar lays waiting for me. January 2nd is not that far away and if I can keep my weight where it is, I'll consider it a victory. I typically gain 12 lbs or so every holiday season. Keeping it under 5 would be a moral victory. The band will still be there in January and I'll take full advantage. Happy Holidays! tmf

Glad to see a Men's section. Oh no I am cross posting!!! Hello: I am going through the process of all my tests/appointments. I am on a 3 month diet for insurance purposes. I was hoping for Bypass surgery, though, The Doctor and I thought a Lap-band be the safer route. The reason is that I had a colon resection of the large intestine in my 20's. I have been overweight all my life. About every couple years,I end up on Weight Watchers 6 months then gain it all back. Though, I become obese and morbidly obese in the last 10 years. I got involved in a bad relationship which ended in a nasty divorce. With going through all the evaluations and Doc appointments, I was able to identify key events in my childhood when I started gaining weight and turning inward. My outlook on life has changed recently, I am looking forward to the surgery and my new lifestyle. I am happy to find this forum exists.

It's funny you mention the McDonalds right after groceries. I would always go grocery shopping then pick up something quick for dinner...after I just BOUGHT food!! Made no sense to me, but it was habit. Congrats for bypassing the bad food!! I knew the first 10 lbs I dropped were Water weight, but it didn't matter...it was 10 lbs gone!! Feels good, right?
