Most embarassing moment so far
LipstickLady replied to Ashlee K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went 15 days total without making a poodle. Don't worry about Protein for your first week or two, just keep yourself hydrated. If you can get down a vanilla greek yogurt, that's great if you can't handle the shakes. The first week is the worst but it does get better. Just keep in mind that as long as you are on all liquids, een full liquids like Soups, your poops will most likely be puddles. Buy flushable baby wipes, too. Your bum will thank you. -

4 months post op...could I have stretched my stomach?
pinky4652 replied to ahjohnson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im 4 months and some change out myself and i am eating about 4oz a meal right now and i do have a snack between the Breakfast lunch and dinner i may not eat a whole lot but my stomach will growl when it wants something lol.... how much are you eating? and what are you eating?... for me yogurt fills me up for about 30 mins vs a few raw carrots that would satisfy me for 1-2 hrs so look for food that takes a while for you to chew and that helped me out i was eating more then i was supposed to be. this method has helped me out alot more raw veggies and fruit less of the other stuff... also i try to add 1/2 a piece of toast to at least 1 meal a day it keeps me full longer able to go longer with out a bite of something... -
I think I have an ulcer....I am almost one year post op and have been doing ok with my high protien low carb diet but at six months I started drinking coffee again...just one large cup most days....and a few weeks ago I took ibuprofen twice for a bad sunburn....now for the last 5 days I have had some pretty bad burning pain in my stomach...cant really eat too much...just my greek yogurt and some eggs and string cheese. It hurts a bit even after drinking water. I am pretty sure it is an ulcer. I am going to stop my coffee for awhile and start a 2 week course of prilosec and see if that helps. I have my one year follow up in 3 weeks so i will ask then. good luck!

Hey All, I’m 15 days post-op, just moved to soft foods today and super excited. I have lost 20 lbs so far, I’m energized and feel fabulous. My only problem so far is every time I eat something other then yogurt or pudding, I have a lot of noise. Noise coming from my stomach and/or throat? It’s so embarrassing and I swear people can hear it but I just may be paranoid. Anyone else experiencing these noises? Please tell me it’s normal? Thanks in advance!

Frustrated with protein shakes
Clarevoyant replied to lapitcha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been making Greek yogurt smoothies with GENEPRO and frozen fruit. 45 grams but pretty filling. I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow and takes me about 45 minutes to drink so may be too soon for you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have never like artificial sweeteners. But I have been trying some lately. Today I bought some yogurt with some in to try! It is so awful! I don’t know if I can do it! Any suggestions? Toodles, Rue

low gi diets, the gi stands for glycemic (sp?) index. Its based on sugar being 100, and how long it takes to digest the food. The lowest food is no sugar or artifically sweetened yogurt, and cottage cheese is good. You can have two 100 calories protein or low fat dairy snacks a day, look at the labels for the highest protein varieties. I eat lots of fish. Im struggling to lose too, and need to do all I can to help it along. Foods that take longer to digest go lower and trigger enzymes that make you feel full and more satisfied, hence you are supposed to eat whole grains, cereal, rice, pasta etc. Go easy though on carbs, they are a side item and not the main course etc. You can have fruit once a day, but I try to skip the fruit, too much sugar. low gi fruits are apples, stone fruits like peaches and berries.

I didn't do a road trip but probably will depend on your Drs diet progression. I was still on liquids at 2 weeks out and that was the day I went back to work and also went to full liquids which included cottage cheese, refried beans, yogurt, etc... Since it was my 1st day back at work I was hesitant about adding those items as I didn't know how my sleeve would react to them. I did try them and all went well;)

I Just Can't Eat Slow Enough!
Qpdsful replied to DebiC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take your time....if you don't you will toss up your intake!! I am 4 months post op and I have never been one to eat slow, or toss my food...sadly if I eat too much too fast or something that doesn't agree here it comes...TMI I am sure. I start with protein and fiber in my coffee every am, than my vitamins, I take celery, and high protein as well as yogurt to snack on during the day at work. It is WORK just to eat....so I have two or three nibbles, and move on to something else. READ...or relax this is a transitional life change...YOU CAN DO IT!! Sometimes I am so frustrated in my decision but when I am cleaning out my closet it makes me smile!!! -

At 3-4 months I could still only eat a couple bites of anything. 1/2 quest bar stuffed me. At 17 months out, I can easily eat a whole quest bar with room to spare. I can consume around 1/2 cup of denser protein or solid veggies, but up to a cup of something like yogurt or soup. I can drink an unending amount of anything, and I can take regular gulps, not just tiny sips. -
Day Four -- And I Have The Munchies?
Shackwacky posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Wednesday the 7th. I am on day four now, and I feel like I am starving all the time. I have tried Protein drinks, popsicles, juice, gallons of Water (I have no restrictions when it comes to liquids), thinned out Soup, broth, decaf tea and full caf coffee. Milk and yogurt. The only thing I can get down without a hitch is the water, and apparently that is a good thing. But I make a small amount of soup (very thinned out) and sip the whole thing, and right away I am in the kitchen looking at everything that looks good. I think it might be in my head --- well, I am pretty sure some of its in my head, as I have been a vegetarian for years now and my son's ham slices look delicious! I keep thinking "another week of liquids!???" I want apples, and toast, and fajitas, and ............ How to calm the hungries? -
Eating on a road trip -- looking for suggestions.
NikkiDoc replied to BestDayEver's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was traveling for business early in the week since I flew I did not have a cooler option. I was able to stop at a convenience store and get a light yogurt and P3 by Lunchables. I love the grilled nuggets at Chik-fil-A. The kid's meal is a perfect size. I get either fresh fruit or no sugar added cinnamon applesauce as the side and a diet lemonade. Wendy's has a grilled chicken sandwich but I skip the roll and don't get a side. You can get Wendy's chili. Wendy's has a few salads with grilled chicken or with the chili. It looks like McD's has some grilled chicken sandwiches or grilled chicken on salad. Boston Market has some good options. Arby's has a lot of sandwiches. On the kid's menu they have a turkey cheese sandwich and GoGo squeeze applesauce for a side. They have a roast turkey salad. I have no problem just eating the meat/cheese, lettuce, tomato off of a sandwich and dumping the rest. Same with a burger. In your case I would pack a cooler. Even if the rest of the family wants McD's you know you have something you like and won't lead you into temptation. But regular bread and basic hamburger rolls have never been my downfall so it is easy for me to not eat it. If bread and rolls is a weak spot for you you may want to go with the grilled nuggets, Boston Market chicken (hold the cornbread) or salads. I have never asked but the restaurant may be willing to put the guts of the sandwich in a box and hold the bread/roll and thus avoid the temptation. -
Yes and no. On days when it is cool enough I do enjoy planning out meals and cooking them myself. On days when it is just way too hot to turn the stove on (like today!) I will go to the grocery store and buy a rotisserie chicken, and live off cheese and yogurt. I have a ton of recipes pinned to try, and my family so far has loved everything that I have prepared which is a bonus! I can't wait for fall and the cooler temps to arrive. I'll be busting out the crock pot for all kinds of delicious family friendly and bariatric friendly meals.

New to forum - surgery date 2/6/06

I am feeling amazing considering I just had major surgery. I have had no problems so far. The language is mostly not a problem. The only people I interacted with who did not speak English were the hospital nurses. Dr. Rumbaut gives you a paper that has questions that you may need to ask the nurse and how to say them in spanish. My mom and I found it easier to just point at what we were trying to say and they would find an english word to point back at. All of Dr. Rumbaut's staff and assistants all speak english very well. I had no problems understanding them. One thin I wish I would have brought was my own food for the hotel. There was a grocery store right next to the Hampton Inn, H.E.B., and my mom took many trips there to find me broth, yogurt, etc. Try to pack some things that you can eat when back at the hotel after your surgery. My mom and I went to H.E.B. adn bought a styrofoam ice chest to keep things cold. The best thing I found was the GNC store right by H.E.B. where I bougt Adkins Advantage shakes. They filled me up adn kept me full for several hours. If you have any more questions let me know? Let me know how your surgery goes? Casie -
Congrats on your 1st fill! I'm looking forward to mine...I won't have my first fill until February 12th. I was just banded 1 week ago and now it seems that I'm having almost NO restriction at all! My doc had me eating "regular" food right away (no liquids, purées, or mushies). I chew well & eat very slowly & everything goes down without any problem. But it still seems like I'm able to eat a lot in comparison to others here. For example, today to see how much it took before feeling full, I had a tuna sandwich, yogurt & applesauce. I couldn't believe it! I suppose I'll need to be patient until my fill.

Sure! The easiest way to determine how much protein is in something is to look at the nutritional facts. It should tell you, per serving, how much protein a food/drink has. For example, my Bariatric Advantage shakes have 27 grams of protein per serving. My string cheese has 7g per stick. The yogurt I eat has 11. There are a lot of websites out there that will help you track what is in the food you eat, nutritionally speaking. I recommend that. If it's a food and you're not sure how much protein is in it, try googling "(item) nutrition facts" and it should bring up some websites that have the information you want.

What is your doctor's post op diet progression? I was not allowed solids until week 5. Cherrios are really empty calories, no Protein (milk does have some). I have Greek yogurt with fruit for breakfast with the following add ins: unflavored benefiber, 1/2 scoop vanilla whey isolate, 1/3 cup Kashi Go lean (high protein), and some walnuts. Not sure on calories but maybe between 300-350, but close to 30 g or protein. My doctor says 3 oz of protein so I would have 2 oz of tuna with the 1 oz of laughing cow. Looks like you have having most of your protein in one meal. Try spreading it out over your day.

Purchase all your vitamins and organize them and write up a schedule to take them. I also bought a honkin' pill holder. I didn't practice sipping and I've had no issues. Gulp once and your stomach will let you know. I also didn't practice chewing. I have five weeks till I can chew and figured I'd be out of the habit anyway. I did buy tiny plates and baby spoons for the time. I use the spoons with my yogurt now. When you're home and on the liquid phase you'll have plenty of time to read what your food phases will be. Oh, do get a digital food scale of you don't have one. You'll both be just fine.

2 weeks out. Who here has tried (and liked) refried beans?
lovealways posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys! I'm 2 weeks out and excited to start trying new (soft) things. So far, the only thing I've tried is eggs and some melted chedder cheese in the eggs, and all went well. I would like to try refried beans tonight with some melted shredded cheddar cheese and a dollop of plain greek yogurt. Has anyone successfully tried refried beans this early out? How much would you say I should consume at one sitting? About 1/4 to 1/2 a cup?? -
Urinating Pain (males)
OKCPirate replied to AndyNicks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@AndyNicks - That is not a complaint I hear about on this forum, but did they do a catheter? I had one with my appendix operation. Hurt like a mother coming out and burned for a while. Long list of things that can cause that type of pain but that's what urologists do. (And remember, the proctologists get you in the end). I agree moving from liquid to Jello and yogurt is great. Congrats, can't wait to hear about your progress.
