You bet. I can also grab it from underneath and pull it up. I have even been thinking I might have to revise it to a lower profile at some point because it's so pronounced. I don't think I even noticed the port when I was heavier. You should probably check with the doctor just in case there's something up with your port, but I suspect it's just the same as my experience. My surgeon already told me this is all due to the lack of belly fat when I saw her around Christmas time.

Week of jan 26th sleevers?
Jlkhollins replied to Peace Love & Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery on January 29th in Richmond, VA. I had a revision surgery from lap band to VSG. I am doing well....only have a lack of energy and slight nauseousness. I hope everyone is doing well!!!! -
I went into my consult with about 20 pages of past weigh ins, graphs, and whatnot from my own personal apps and MyFitnessPal, etc. They didn't even want to see them... I just verbally went over the diets and exercise regimens I had previously tried, the gym memberships I've had, the 2 years of fills I had with my Lapband, and they said I was set and that's all the insurance really requires. I do, unfortunately, have to go through several pre-op tests other than the normal psych/NUT visit which I knocked out the same day (esophageal manometry, EGD, upper GI, chest x-ray, EKG, thyroid-specific blood tests... I think that's it, lol.) But I think that's surgeon specific and because I'm a revision. Keep me updated with your journies, ladies!

Was your band removal and revision surgery done at the same time?
LSF replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
A guy that I used to work with got the sleeve a year ago. He said it's the best thing he ever did. It was talking to him that I decided to move forward with the revision surgery. -
Unfilled/possible revision?
lisacaron replied to Pinkygirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I would ask him to share the results of the scans with you and get copies of them, call another office and see if you can get a second opinion from another Dr. we are still talking about major surgery so a second opinion is not uncalled for. If there needs to be a revision then you will know without a doubt. Let us know how your doing and what happens!! -
My consultation is in 2 days! I hope I click with this surgeon. I had a consultation with another surgeon a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't like how his office was run. It felt like a surgery mill, honestly, and left me wondering what kind of support I'd be getting after my revision surgery. When I tell a bariatric surgeon that I've been having issues with my band and that I'd already had replacement surgery once, I shouldn't be left on my own to find a radiologist that is familiar with the band in order to get an upper GI series done. About a week before that consultation, I had a severe sliming/PB episode while I was at work (I made the mistake of eating a raw carrot). It was the last straw for me. I'm having more issues with my band since then, and I'm honestly starting to think I've had another slip. I hate to say it, but I'm actually hoping I have, since it will make getting a revision approved a little easier. I'm having acid reflux (with which I only had issues when my last band had slipped), my esophagus and chest aches off and on, and my port area has been a lot more tender. I'm sick of not being able to know what I can or can't eat until I try to eat it, and then getting painfully "stuck" and suffering projectile sliming. Always having to know where the bathroom is when I go out to eat, so that I can rush there if my band has decided to be restrictive. I want to be able to eat fresh fruit and vegetables and not have to spit out the fibrous parts. I want to be able to eat at work without having to wonder if I'm going to have to run to the bathroom (really embarrassing when you work in a very small group). I'm just so tired of this.

I was doing a revision from lapband and my surgeon won't do revisions to sleeve. He said that there's usually too much scar tissue where he needs to cut and where you need to heal, so the bypass was the best option.

Struggling with the Preop diet
bewell replied to evanter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kmgaustin, I am 3 weeks post-op tomorrow. Doing OK, losing slow but steady. Feel OK but low energy still. I have stayed on the mushy diet longer cuz some foods (even a Protein drink) came back up, fast. The last thing we want to do is vomit and challenge our new small stomach and staple line, so I'm being very careful. When I was on the PRE-op diet and starving I NEVER thought I'd be saying this, but it is VERY hard to eat. The biggest challenge is everything tastes different and I am not hungry at all. Even Water which I loved pre-op is really hard to drink, it tastes so weird. It's hard to get all the fluids and Protein drinks in cuz I have to sip so slow and small amounts. I am maybe eating 500 calories a day if I'm lucky. I mainly do protein drinks and blended cream of mushroom Soup. My nurse said if I vomit it is usually cuz of eating too much or too fast or in the post-op diet eating something too soon. A long-time sleever told me to enjoy it now (not wanting to eat) because eventually the taste buds recover as well as the capacity to eat more of the wrong things. I bought a lot of drinks and Soups pre-surgery that I just can't tolerate now. Gatoraide, propel, crystal iight..tons of soups. I can't use any of it, tastes terrible. So I caution buying too much of anything pre-surgery. Try one bottle and see how it tastes post-op. What I loved to eat or drink pre-surgery just doesn't work post-op. That may change but for now it's a huge challenge. Also pills, its hard for me to take a small pill, just upsets my new little stomach. Some people do better or have an easier time, this is just my experience. (I am a band to sleeve revision so my recovery may take longer.) Best wishes to all of you about to have surgery. Even with the challenge, I'm happy I had the surgery. It will take some time to get used to a new way of eating and drinking but I feel better already. -
Just wondering from veterans and newbies alike thoughts on plastics. How much extra weight do you think the skin would be, let's say you lost ~100lbs, if you had some nips and tucks? 1lb, 5lbs, 10lbs any guesses? Does anyone have credible knowledge of significant inches/wt lost after plastic revisions such as lower body lift, upper arm lifts??? Did you wait until you made it to goal weight? or did you just nip and tuck after you stopped losing?? And PS...why can't I post a topic in the Veteran's Forum specifically? I'm > 1 yr out now and it says I can't start or respond to topics there...any clues???? thanks everyone Stacie

Unfilled/possible revision?
Pinkygirl replied to Pinkygirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thank god im not the only one that seems like hes rushing this! Exactly, doesnt seem like he;s giving me enough time to process anything going on! ct scan now, revision surgery tomorrow! like relax can I first get over the swelling and tightness?!?! he said! that 5% of the time the band fixes itself! welllll maybe his patients since he doesn't give them enough time to heal! I am scheduled for the CT scan this Saturday! that will give me 10 days to heal and hopefully some improvement on my band so he can see it on the CT scan! I still don't think this is enough time tho -
When to consider tummy tuck
Bluesea71 replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you checked out the Realself website? It's a forum full of people who have had different plastic surgery procedures and post their pictures before, during and after. It was after consulting that website that finally convinced me I had to be patient if I wanted to achieve the best results. There are several people on there who have had tummy tucks with still a significant amount of belly fat. In my opinion, the results are not something I would be happy with. It also takes time for your skin to adjust... And believe it on not, it will shrink some! My stomach initially looked horrific and now that I am within 5-15 pounds of my end goal, I'm amazing how flat it's become and how much the skin has shrank. At times I even debate if it would be worth having that massive 10-12" scar a tummy tuck would leave behind. My plan is to get to goal weight and maintain it for a year. I have seen a few posts on BP from people who had plastics and then had to have revisions because their weight fluctuated. I think most, if not all surgeons recommend you be at a stable weight for at least a year. -

Unfilled/possible revision?
parisshel replied to Pinkygirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I agree with your instincts. Plenty of people on this board have posted about unfills as the first go-to solution to a slip or other complication. It does seem odd that the doctor is not opting for that, and instead pushing for a revision right away. Is he talking new band, or another WLS? -
Due to being too tight and acid reflex at night i went for an unfill....he ended up unfilling me all the way because the scan showed a "possible" slip. He wasnt sure what was going on with my band. It was definitely aggravated and swollen due to the vomiting. Doctor (mind you this isnt the doctor that did my surgery) right away is talking about a revision surgery. Don't they say that the band can fix itself if unfilled and giving some time. He wants me to go get a ct scan to see the band and then do a revision right away. Within a week time. Im not giving my band enough time to heal itself. Has this happened to anyone? band fix itself? Shouldn't we give my band atleast 2-4 weeks to calm down and then do a scan to see how it is doing instead of jumping into a ct scan and surgery? Shouldn't an x-ray show how the band is doing since he already seen it last week? I'm so upset he's running too fast! Because all i think he sees is $$$$$$ and i really dont want to think that way but now im not sure what to think about this guy!

I actually had my first consult last Wednesday. The six consecutive month non-surgical weight attempt was actually taken care of between my psych evaluation and my chat with the nutritionist. I discussed and they documented the different "fad" diets and weight loss attempts I've tried and failed at and that, apparently, is good enough to satisfy the insurance requirements. I do have to go through many pre-op tests but I believe that's because I'm band to sleeve revision. Good luck both of you!

Low Blood Sugar 3 times this week
pandababe94 replied to Sparklingbeauty53's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am going thru the same thing. I was off my diabetes meds before surgery due to the preop diet. I noticed it two weeks ago when I almost passed out in my water arobics class. My A1C is very low compared to my last one so they think its been going on for a couple of months. After tracking I have noticed that I start getting symptoms under a reading of 80: headache is number one, weakness, shaky, anxious, light headed, dizziness and the urge to just eat and eat. Now that I know the symptoms I realize that it was happening a lot but didn't put it all together. When I get under 60 I get confused, disoriented and feel like I am going to pass out. I have to test my sugar constantly to stay on top of it. I have added more fiber to my diet and have been eatting more complex carbs and it seems to be a little better but still happens. I am having to eat three meals and three snacks a day and sometimes eatting doesn't bring it back up and I have to use the glucose tablets. After an ER trip, talking with my bariatric surgeons office multiple times they r calling it delayed or late dumping syndrome. I have a scope scheduled on the 16th to look at the opening to the small intestines. If the food is falling out to quickly because the opening is to big it hits the small intestine then the pancreas releases insulin which drops the blood sugar. I am hoping the opening is fine and it's just my body adjusting to losing 80 pounds in 4 months because this would be my 2nd revision surgery.. I had a stricture at 7 weeks out that they perforated trying to dialate it open. I could possibly have the complete opposite problem now. But it is all still worth it and I would do it all again if I had to. -
I was glad to find this thread. I've been wondering about this too. My doctor's office called Anthem the first part of January and they were told there is no requirement for a 6-month regimen. I called a few days ago and was told the same thing. Afterwards I stumbled across this policy revision on the Internet, and now I'm worried I will have to wait 6 more months for surgery. I have asked my surgeon's office to contact Anthem again about this. Will post again once I hear something back.

Did You Have Complications After Weight Loss Surgery?
thesuse2000 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had complications after band surgery in 2008 - had a slip less than a year out after losing about 70 pounds. Had surgery to revise the slip in 2009, and still suffered from continued serious (really awful) night reflux after the revision which was not relieved until my band was completely unfilled (gained all weight lost over the following 5 years plus a few). Had sleeve surgery in June and had no complications whatsoever. Down 98 pounds as of today. SO happy with my sleeve!! -
With in 3 months I'll be having revision from vertical gastric band to rny gastric bypass. I'm so excited. :-D

Is it WORTH having this surgery for the sole purpose of NOT being able to eat crap?
MisforMimi replied to bangbangbarbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dumping is not guaranteed. So maybe not the best ideas to make a decision on that. You posted on the bypass thread so you'll get a lot of pro bypass perspectives, too. I decided bypass because I wanted the greatest chance of my co morbidities being completely resolved. I wanted long term data. I've been on this site a while and I can't figure out if sleeves are just being offered more lately and there by we are hearing more about folks not being able to eat being 6 wks, 6 months out and other stuff or if sleeves are more vocal about it. Can't tell. I'm two weeks out and can tolerate everything I tried with no problems, nausea, vomiting. I know when I'm am eating too fast but I think that would be the same for everyone at this point. You need to make this decision with your surgeon. I think most people go with their guts and at their fear edge. Some people are gonna be creeped out by the re routing, I was afraid of the long line of stitching with the sleeve or developing any sort of reflux, heartburn etc. Also, what sealed the deal for me and you might ask your surgeon. How many of each procedures has he/she done? Which one has he/she done the most revisions or fixed complications with? And how comfortable with it are they? If his or her child needed bariatric surgery which would they recommend? Honestly, you are young and healthy and would probably do well with a uncomplicated sleeve or bypass process, but you may not need all the bypass has to offer. -
So happy you are sharing your post op experiences now since I'm scheduled Wednesday for my revision. I have been on this site more these past couple of weeks to get a better idea of what to expect

I am so excited to revise in 13 days. I lost 100 lb with the band to bmi 21 but regained 50lb due to slippage And pregnancies. I feel that I lost the weight first time round in a really unhealthy way basically because it was so hard to eat protein and veggies! In the last two years I have really educated myself on fitness and nutrition but like all of us I just can't lose the weight (portion control is non existent!) I feel like the sleeve will give me the right appetite for the kind of life I want to live with the added benefit of no sliming, pb'ing restricted foods, fills and getting stuck.
