Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Shrinkingvee replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are spot on with what you say, I’m 3 weeks post op and it’s been the toughest journey I’ve ever walked and I’ve been up and down throughout these 3 weeks. it’s not easy. I know it will get easier but I’ve been down every other day as apparently with fat loss your estrogen levels rise and that causes feeling down so that sucks. Im still finding it hard to get my fluid intake in and in turn now today have a migraine probably due to dehydration. im eating soft food and cracker crisp bread with a little cheese or chicken with avocado or yeast extract. Ive gone off eggs, that’s a shame. my sense of smell and taste seems so different, I don’t know if anyone else’s has changed? I’ve lost a total of 17lbs since my op and lost 16 with pre op diet. I feel like it’s slow this week like a quarter of a pound but I’ve been told there is a 3 week stall. I’m really fed up with the down days. Ive not gone back to work yet. Took another week off. Im really struggling today. I’m sorry to be so negative but when I read your insert and though you are so right, people need to know complications can arise as issues and to know you will need support. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
You Are My Sunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today was weirdly hard because I just wasn't hungry. Had to kind of force myself to drink and eat some stuff. Probably could use another shake, but I'm tired and want to go to bed. Jello has been good. One more week... then another couple weeks, lol. -
One month out from VSG--still so much pain, and partner getting exasperated
pintsizedmallrat replied to pintsizedmallrat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think what happened is that I burned the lower part of my esophagus via acid reflux, and it seems to be on its way to healing. (My bariatric team had me start taking two acid reducers)...it's the weirdest thing though, I never had acid reflux before the surgery, and I know there were at least a few times things were coming up my throat in my sleep. Over the last week I've been able to eat 2-3 small "meals" each day (my dinner was two rice crackers with thai chili tuna on them, for instance), which isn't where I should be, but it's a damn sight better than being able to only get water, protein shakes, and juice down. -
Gallstones after sleeve
Arabesque replied to sal-wa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. Had my gall removed 2 years after my sleeve. I had a single stone which suddenly decided to stage a riot - worst pain ever. My surgeon used three of the same keyhole incisions from my sleeve plus one new one. He said once you have one stone you’ll develop others & once you’ve experienced a severe attack you’ll have more attacks. Better to remove the gall. Honestly, the recovery was comparatively worse than the sleeve. I had gas pain (never did after the sleeve) & a lot of muscular discomfort across the abdomen like lots of pulled muscles which I didn’t after my sleeve. In saying that, the pain wasn’t bad & I was only taking the odd over the counter pain med from about day 3. It’s all relative. It is pretty common as some have had stones for years & didn’t know - just rumbling symptoms. High cholesterol or significant weight loss can contribute to the development of gall stones as can high bilirubin levels. Some women develop them during menopause. I ticked the boxes for all four possible causes as while I was losing my cholesterol increased (dropped to my usual level once I reached goal). -
Any October 2021 Surgeries?
lalalovestodance replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Mine was on October 14th. It’s really nice to see how positive and excited everyone is. But it is equally as important to acknowledge our fears and the reality of recovery. I was very scared going into it and everyone said “you’ll be fine, and shared their positive experiences”. I was planning to have family come to stay and help out with the recovery period but because of all the positive experiences, I didn’t go that direction and really regret that decision. I am now 2.5 weeks post op and it has been so difficult to manage all the different pieces related to the diet whilst trying to manage anemia and other issues that arose post op. I see others that had the surgery on the same day as I and with the same doctor go through an easy recovery period. We’re all different and the reality is that it is not always easy, complications are possible, and we need to be prepared for complications. -
Constipated HELP!!
MandoGetsSleeved replied to TeeNeg12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Careful with the exlax - It can cause problems long term. After about two weeks post surgery, I had to use what is referred to in our house as the "nuclear option" (enema). It was AWFUL - SERIOUSLY HORRENDOUS - Since then, I've had problems, but overall things have worked out with time and the ability to get in some raw vegetables (I know you aren't there yet). I started with just lettuce, tomato, and protein powder in my dressing. Every few days, that did the trick. I find that when I get my fluid intake in and walk more, I can stay pretty regular. With regards to Miralax, are you taking it every day? If not, you might want to try that first rather than waiting until it's bad. -
Anyone with a traveling job?
MandoGetsSleeved replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Liza, yes - I travel quite often for work and travelled a LOT starting a few weeks after surgery. For me, as soon as I could start eating "real" food, it was HARD to resist the temptation to order whatever looked good off a menu vs. what I should eat. For the first few months, I got most of my food to go and just went back to the room, ate what I could in 20-30 minutes and then threw away the rest of it. Why? Because I eat when I'm bored and if I left it in my fridge, I would hav gradually eaten all of it over the course of several hours. Now, honestly, it's even harder because I can eat what would be considered a "normal" portion to most skinny people (I still have lots of restriction). What I have to watch for at work when traveling is grazing. So often customer have foo or snacks out and again... if it's there, I'll eat it. I also tend to eat much more salt when I travel (restaurants, prepared food) and find that when I get back home, I'll sometimes be as much as 2-3 pounds up even when I was good. Drink water for a couple of days and I'll easily drop that and usually another pound. I also seem to retain a lot more water when I'm flying. So, you're not alone.... What's worked for me: 1. Throw away leftovers if you can't control yourself. 2. Buy the large bottles of water or bring a large water bottle with you - Make sure you're actually drinking it! 3. Grocery stores are great - I love Fresh Market or Whole Foods for their prepared food (salmon and green beans are my go to there). Publix also sells premade small salads that are the perfect size and have a good amount of protein. Over the course of a year, I'm pretty close to my goal weight and probably traveled at least 30 weeks of that. It takes some trial and error to see what works best for you. -
I thought it was water weight from salt or from dehydration from the plane, but I was home for four days and I didn't even get back to the weight I was when I left... now I'm back on the road. I won't be home for two weeks, although I will be at my parents' house, and there is a scale there (not sure if it is the same calibration as my scale tho).

I didn't have a three week stall exactly, but I am at 7 weeks out and I lost NADA last week - actually went up 0.2 lbs. I'm worried it's from the traveling.

Teachers out there... (or anyone with stressful jobs)
lizonaplane replied to XtinaDoesIt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't drink as much when I'm on site (I work some days from home but most days I'm traveling so on planes and hotels and hospitals), but I still get my liquids in and even with 60-80oz of liquid a day, I don't have to go to the bathroom more than two or three times during my 8 hour day (obviously I pee before and after a few times). Artificial sweeteners, caffeine, coffee, and tea are bladder irritants so you may find you need to pee less frequently if you avoid those. I drink lots of tea with splenda and I still don't have to pee every 30 minutes. Check with your doctor, but also, you can get an accommodation if you need to use the bathroom more frequently or drink during class. The school legally has to provide this - ADA laws. -
Constipated HELP!!
Soon2bFit21 replied to TeeNeg12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve tried Miralax, Milk of magnesia. Senakot and none of them worked. Unfortunately the only thing that gets things moving for me is Exlax (which causes pretty painful cramping 6-10 hours after taking) and sugar feee chocolate. I know the sugar free chocolate isn’t the answer even though it’s within my calories for the day, so I do the exlax every week and a half. I do have bowel movements 2-3 a week otherwise. Coming from a consistent 1-2x a day my whole life, this has been a frustrating change. -
Miralax once a week if needed helps me

So, my job requires VERY frequent travel, 3-6 days a week, most weeks, airplanes, hotels, restaurants, etc. I didn't travel for the first 5 weeks after surgery and I lost very well. Now I've been back on the road for two weeks and my weight has not moved this last week at all, in fact I went up 0.2 lbs. The week before I lost 1.4 lbs. Those two weeks I ate at a number of restaurants and even though I wasn't eating much, what I ate wasn't very healthy (high fat, still pretty low carb, moderate protein). I am worried that my job (which I absolutely love) will make it impossible for me to lose weight because I'm eating a lot at restaurants. I am on the road again now and I went to the grocery store and bought some things that don't have to be cooked/heated (I have a mini fridge but no microwave). I am trying not to make excuses, but it's hard to eat the same few things all the time. Did anyone else have to eat out a lot and still lose weight? Any suggestions?

Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass
lizonaplane replied to EsojLabina's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm now 7 weeks out from sleeve, and the only difference I've noticed is that I haven't had a single migraine since my surgery so I've been reducing the amount of topamax I'm taking. All my other psych meds are the same. Sometimes I feel irritable but I think it's because I'm not seeing the type of progress I was hoping for. Also, I don't take any extended release medications and that makes a big difference, plus bypass makes it harder than sleeve. -

October surgery friends??
ann2472 replied to LyricalWarfare's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2 weeks post sleeve today!!! Since starting the journey with meeting the dietitian I've lost 30#. Since surgery, I think I'm down about 16# and honestly my only issue is acid reflux and possible lactose intolerance. Otherwise I'm feeling great and getting ready to get back to the gym! -
I love vanilla fairlife....Sam's and Costco carry some but I don't like chocolate just vanilla. Also like the protein 20 which is a water and in 4 more weeks will have one with caffeine! There's also a premier protein water that tastes good.

This liquid diet got me ready to lock myself in the room with a jug of water and protein drinks for the rest of these two weeks! 😩
Why something that seem so simple can be so hard.. 😓
Food addiction is REAL!

What day are you on of the pre-op diet? I started to feel like it got easier after the first week. I’m going on day 9 and I actually feel less hungry and full faster. Best of luck to you on your journey.

I'm sorry you're feeling some blues. I've experienced just a little. I have more anger about not being able to gulp water or drink and eat now.. I agree with others that our hormones are trying to regulate again and it is ALWAYS worth talking to your care team or professional. I don't know if this helps at all but I've been open to friends and coworkers why I have been out or MIA. The support and optimism from them has been really surprising! I assumed the stigma behind WLS would have more negativity. I know not all have the same experience but having encouragement from the most random coworkers has been really nice and helped me to solidify this decision and continue to share. I'm at the end of 3rd week post op. I post once or twice a week in my Facebook to give a post op update. After all, friends and family are nosy 🙂 but it's easier than the texts asking how I am. I have not shared any photos yet. I'm wanting to see more change before I do that. I wish you luck! I'm thankful you shared with us. We're all in this together!

New pain and bloating 3 weeks post op VSG
Crystal CW replied to Rey Rodriguez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did it turn out to be? I’m 3 weeks post op and having new pain and soreness that I didn’t have before. I’m on 5th day of soft foods. -
Yes. I think it's leftover from intubation. It took a good week for my sinuses to feel normal. The blood thinners don't help a nose bleed either. If it's a chronic issue post op, let your support team know.

Surgery October 11th- how are you feeling?
LaceyJoyBells posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! I am new here! My surgery was on October 11th. I just wanted to see how people were feeling who had their surgery around the same time?! I just started pureed foods last week. My go to's have been: cottage cheese, scrambles egg whites with cheese, and fat free re-fried beans with cheese (all the cheese I guess haha). I tried pureed canned chicken for the first time yesterday with low-fat mayo and Dijon mustard and it wasn't bad! I am happy that I have been able to tolerate most things. Give me some updates-- what has your life been like since surgery in the last month? Looking forward to the replies 😎 Thank you and nice to meet you all in advance! -
Food Before and After Photos

5 weeks post op vsg 3/4 Sour dough bread 1 1/2 Tbsp. Camembert Cheese 30lb weight loss post op This was my first time since getting the surgery that I ate out and that I ate anything else than moosh. I was so anxious and even thought about not going but it was a mandatory work event that I couldn’t just cancel. I was genuinely surprised how well it went. I feel like I ate quite a lot. I’m okay with that though because my primary goal isnt maximum weight loss but an end to excessive yoyo dieting. I will most likely transition to more normal foods now given how well tonight went. I’ve been eating 400-500kcal and should be getting 800kcal after week five. -
I am The Most Unlikely CrossFitter (started at my heaviest weight) and also mourned the enforced detention from the barbell. I was told absolutely no weight at all for two weeks, walk only. After my two-week visit, I was cleared to for running, jumping rope, and biking (but not rowing, just because of the mechanics of it) and given a 10-lb. restriction which I will freely admit I stretched to 15 lbs so I could use a training bar. I went back to the gym and modified things heavily. I was cleared to return to the gym fully at 6 weeks which was last week. I strongly, strongly suggest you plan to go slow as you return. If you used to go five days a week, go 2-3. If you went 3 days a week, go 1-2. Scale. Absolutely. Everything. Your body will hurt just like it did when you started, and after the gyms reopened post-quarantine. We are finishing a strength cycle that I wasn't here for, so I'll just be kind of doing moderate weight and seeing how my mechanics have changed (cleans feel TOTALLY different), and will start the next strength cycle. I will say that my running got better IMMEDIATELY. I went from a 14-minute mile where I had to stop and use an inhaler, to an 11-minute mile in just four weeks, and my inhaler is in a drawer. I ran an 800 m in under 5 minutes and didn't die. I actually can't wait to see how much closer I can get to a pull-up or a toes-to-bar with the increased mobility and less of a leaden weight in my @$$. Oh, and for what it's worth, I was able to pull 60% of my heavy deadlift for 5 reps absolutely cold the week I returned. Will there be strength loss? Probably. But it's not as bad as I feared.
