You are not alone! I am having this same issue. I lost 97 lbs before getting pregnant so I have hanging skin on my stomach...I've gained about 45 lbs since being pregnant and getting half of my Fluid taken out. I am growing appropriately and not measuring big or anything, but I very much still just feel fat even though I really do look pregnant. It's a big struggle to go from focusing so much on getting smaller to being okay with getting bigger! My only advice is to remember that pregnancy is temporary and try to enjoy your growing body! It's doing amazing things on the inside right now, even if you feel gross on the outside That's what I try to remind myself!

So sorry that you are ill.. I used to have bronchitis quite a bit but for some reason I don't get it as often.. You might want to use a pillow to kind of brace your port area when you cough hard.. I doubt you could cough it loose but you don't want to strain yourself if you can prevent it... -
Stomach Discoloration After Surgery
rainbowsfollowme posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lapband surgery on 6/4/2010. After surgery I had some bruising which was normal and expected. However 6 weeks after surgery I still had discoloration on my stomach. This discoloration is just slightly darker than my natural skin color - almost resembling a birth mark. I asked the Doctor and he said it was probably just bruising under my skin and it would go away. I doubted it was bruising but trusted the Doctor. Now I am 9 weeks post op and the discoloration is still there - it hasn't changed a bit. I'm wondering it anyone else has experience or heard of this?? -
I did not see any mention of the amount of pounds you intend to lose. That is the major thing with the loose skin issue. Age and exercise levels also play a major key. A younger persons skin will have more elasticity, and of course the more you exercise the better off. You stand a better chance of avoiding the sagging skin ordeal if you need to lose under 100 lbs. Anything over that and as sad as it may be excess skin will most likely be an issue. But at least you can have it removed if you so desire.

People say they notice I am loosing weight. When I tell them I had lap band surgery, you would think I just told them I walk on water. Their so in AW of this surgery. Is there anyone in my area who has had this surgery?

I got banded 5 yrs ago and lost 30 kilos over 3 yrs - very slow but I was happy. I had some removed so I could enjoy my honeymoon and when I got home I had it refilled. I started to experience unexplained vomiting. It was not a block or a stuck as I know very intimately what that feels like. Instead the vomiting was violent, unpredictable and sudden and often I would not make it to the bathroom. I had a barium swallow but all was ok. I ended up having some fluid removed as I was so run down and exhausted not to mention highly embarrassed by the vomiting. There were times I would even loose bladder control. I am now back to my pre operative weight and am terrified of getting another fill. I am now considering sleeving. Does anyone else experience this?

Plateau - trying not to get discouraged
ElfiePoo replied to 20zmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A plateau can mean a couple of things but it basically comes down to calories taken in vs calories being expended. If you take in more than you're expending, you gain. If you expend more than you're taking in, then you'll lose. Keep in mind that as you lose weight, it will take fewer calories to maintain that weight, so you'll have to reduce the calories you're eating...or expend more. For example, to maintain 260 pounds at my height, age and current activity level, I would have to eat about 2100 calories (roughly). To maintain a weight of 140 pounds, I could only eat about 1800 calories. Not much of a difference, but enough of one that it can stall any losses. Also, depending on the type of exercises you're doing, you may be building muscle which is denser (and thus weighs more) than the the same volume of fat. If you look and feel like you're losing weight (clothes hanging more loosely, muscles looking more toned, etc.), that may be the problem (I'd like to have that problem though). I posted a thread called "calculating your daily requirements" with a formula for calculating your daily food requirements...or you can go to the Mayo Clinic site and put in your height, age, activity level and the weight you'd like to be and it will calculate how many calories it would take per day to maintain that weight. . -
I lost 15 pounds before the surgery, and after the surgery I lost in a total of 25 pounds. But now I am very disappointed, I had the fill last week, about 4 cc. I still feel hungry and am not loosing anymore weight. Besides that, I feel I can eat everything and drink any amount, I do not feel any difference in having the Lap Band.

Are You Buying Sexy Clothes Now?
coops replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Erm, not for me... i really have to work on my self esteem and confidence in this department!! I am desperate for new underwear, saggy baggy knickers are really not attractive, but I am sorta confused on what to go for now!! I suppose I just have to pluck out the confidence to buy a few different ones to see what shape is best? I think it is the saggy tummy skin that stops me, it is just awful and I will do anything to conceal it!! On the clothes front, I am struggling to know what suits me now... is it too young? (I am ONLY 41...lol), too short, too long, too tight, too fitted... oh I could go on! Again I lack the confidence to go into the shops and try things on. I think I fear that it will either be too small or look awful! Like I say, I am working on this part of the new me! Good for you though... getting new clothes and undies is a great NSV, especially when they make you feel good! =] -
When were you banded?? For abdominal surgeries, they pump the cavity with air to lift the skin and underlying tissues (fat) up away from the organs to have access to work. Post surgery, depending how much air they are able to extract, will cause pain first in the upper abdomen, then under the sternum, ribcage, and eventually it moves up to the shoulders, primarily the left. The only way to relieve this is to get up and walk. as much as possible. My daughter is a Nurse practitioner and she explained this to me. It should only last a couple of days, no longer than a week, typically. If you were banded way before that, then your pain is unrelated to the surgery and maybe orthopedic.

I'm I too tight or just right... Please help
JennR replied to JennR's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Terri If you haven't lost any weight at all, call and make an appt with him and talk about your concerns. About 3 months ago I thought I was doing badly. I read posts on here that from people that got banded the same time I did and had lost alot more weight. I told him my concerns and he pointed out that I was loosing 5 1/2 pounds a month. I do feel some days that I am going nowhere but I've lost almost 50 pounds. I've gone from a size 26-22 almost a 20. That's better than nothing. Over the last few days I started making sure I took smaller bites and chewed the heck out of my food and I havn't pb or vomited in 2 days. Hang in there and ask questions. -
My nut said I should be eating 1000 calories a day and at least 60 grams of protein. Well I have been doing that from the beginning, and have been loosing up until 2 weeks ago. I have not lost anything! I haven't changed anything along with working out 4-5 times a week. Out of frustration, I looked online to see how many calories I should be eating a day to reach my goal weight. It stated I should be eating 1700 calories and 97 grams of protein with the amount of exercising I am doing. Also, that weight loss will happen in the beginning but then my body will eventually go into starvation mode and I will not loose anymore. Which I am wondering what is happening now? Is it possible that I am in starvation mode and unable to loose weight? I know the band is a tool and I use it as if it is. But honestly, without snacking in between meals, how can I get 1700 calories in a day and eat healthy?
-
Hey i would say your only plateaued for 2 weeks. thats not bad id stick with what your doing and give it like another week or 2.. and if your doing 1000 cals a day id switch it up.. one day take in like 1200 and another 900. and switch up your diet a lil dont eat the same foods allthe time. you dont need to consume too much more to get out of starvation mode just by eating at different tmes during the day and fluctuating the amount of calories you take in a day should help to kick start it again.. also when you work out you doo gain muscle soo your body might be adjusting to that now. but its good cause ur loosing inches maybe not the scale,.. def give it some more time. goodluck!

I Bought a Bikini! Wedding Dresses! And Long Term Success!

Congrats and thanks for sharing. I think finding that ideal weight is a challenge. And I like the idea of a high waisted bikini. I don't have the lose skin issue but my scars are still really noticeable. I am not sure if the biggest one I have will ever not be. Have a great weekend- LA -
Mornings and strange symptoms. HELP.
kathp replied to MissErika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I noticed a lot more skin issues right after surgery, and they slowly got better. I think it's the body saying, oops, got to heal this big thing right now, I'll get back to you little stuff. I also think it's very possible it's a medication reaction (sometimes they do that, and if you're not processing it all like you used to...) As to the morning issues - I take thyroid medicine and can't eat for half an hour after, and if they all have to be spaced out... definitely ask the doctor! Good luck, and don't worry about ranting! We all do it, or need to do it, sometimes. -
Welcome, and if you stick to the pre op diet you could loose a lot of weight before surgery. I had a total of 32 lbs lost just by the pre op diet before surgery. Hopefully you have similar or better results than I did. Never look back and please stay focused on your future. It is not easy at first but you will make it.

For people who have a apron
Rycherchick replied to Faith41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just learned something. Didnt know what an apron was lol I thought it was something grandma used to wear when cooking and doing dishes. No apron and no skin blocking my private area. Whew! That would be uncomfortable Im guessing. Thanks for the education. -
the more I get with the site I will be looking for more help. i've started the design and am setting up the general layout of the pages so that its all set to go to add info. my husband and I spoke tonight and he plans to make a database where those who have been banded can take a survey and that information will be shown in charts and easy to follow info. an example would be After one week how much did you loose (week2,3,4,5,6, etc) the results would show a graph or chart representing how much average weight loss per week. another example when did you move onto solid foods week 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. coming up with these questions are gonna be the hardest for me since there is no real place to find such info. any suggestions would be great. once i get it into motion i will of course need a lot of people willing to take the survey and share the experience. on the survey would also be questions.. like this.. but each question would have max # of chars so that they were short answers explain what this surgery has done for you and your life would you recommend this surgery to a friend, if so why? whats one thing you wish you would have know but didnt? etc.... anyone who wants to help me come up with things to include on a survey would be much appreciated.. you can email me katie@Griffonco.com or post it.. either way =)

Hi there after spending the last 4 days on this site reading every single thing that I can I've decided to take my professional web design skills and make a lap-band resource information website. I originally was thinking for my area most of all. (live in Reno, NV) but I've found SO much useful information here mostly by people who have had the surgery already that it seems silly not to make a site useful to anyone, anywhere. I'll tell you my background. I've spent the last 2 years researching WLS. Up until 2 months ago I had no idea what the lap-band could do for me, or anyone really. I had this view of it being for someone who needed to loose less than 100 pounds or so. There is SOOOO much crap online about the surgery and most of it makes people like me not want it. I really want to take my time and make something useful for everyone who was in my shoes and really had no where to turn too that gave *real* information. Mosts sites are done by the surgeons and people trying to get your money. So basically what I want to do is make a research site mainly for lap band patients considering the surgery or pre op.. not necessarily those post op (which wouldnt be hard to include tho) but for those who want as much information before hand as they can find. I'm not gonna go stealing anyones stuff of course and I really want to utilize all these great sites listed by linking them and keeping them up to date. But I also want to have a lot of info from people who have done the surgery, who have been in well... my shoes. This surgery is amazing, imo much better than stapling now that I've found accurate research so I'm just curious if anyone wants to help me out. I can't really make a great site until I've been there but I think if I really start now that by the time (i should have surgery in less than 2 months) I get there I don't forget all the things I wondered about when I was considering the surgery. anyways I'd like to get some feedback. This site is amazing (obviously would be a #1 link) but I'd like to make a nice professional looking site that gives resources and information that *isnt* paid for by a surgeons office trying to convince people to do the surgery. I want to include a ton of things but I'm open to ideas and definately open to some help getting things in order.. and well the whole thing really. what do you guys think? If I did this.. what ideas do you have? you can email me at katie@griffonco.com or we can just chat here.. your choice!

Had My First Fill And No Longer Losing Weight...
honk replied to BrandieRiggsby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
45 g of protein is very much on the low end. What kind of carbs are you eating and how much? You would need to eat a whole lot of "good carbs" to consume about 800 cals worth per day. Eventually you loose all the water weight and then you are working on true fat. Fat takes a 3500 cal deficit to lose 1 lb of fat. How much exercise are you doing? My doctor says at least 30 minutes 7 days a week. I do up to two hours daily and I am a slow looser. -
So I have not really been one this site much over the last few months, but it was the place that got me started on this fantastic journey so a progress report is in order! One year ago today I have VSG. I would do it again in a heartbeat and recommend it for soooo many people out there with this struggle. It has not been the easiest thing ever, and I still have battles with overeating, food addictions, and lack of self control, but I have overall made changes that have literally turned my life into complete awesomeness. Seriously. I started with my consultation weighing 246 pounds, and today I weighed in at 145.5 pounds. Yep, 100 pounds in one year, which was a major goal for me and I was able to do it! I still have 20 pounds to go, but I am steadily still loosing small amounts of weights each month and I will get there. I cannot stress the impact if learning to love exercising enough. I joined a gym and found a way to not only keep me there, but now I am in a position to help others on their path by having become a cardio kickboxing instructor. If you told me a year ago this is where I would be today I would not have believed you or have trusted that VSG would work, or that I would have been able to retrain my brain to this extent. There is no replacement for a healthy body and mind, which has helped to literally make me a healthier soul. I love this community and cannot thank you guys enough for all the support over the last year, and hope you are all doing great with your own journeys and am here for anyone who needs help, advice, or just a listening ear! Now it's reward time, a long awaited treat, off to get my new tattoo!!

Gallstone attack with the Lapband??
Princess_Gottalose replied to candieee1974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree if you are having pain dont wait!!! I actually (about 2 weeks ago) was having a dull pain in my right side and it went to my shoulder... Then i started throwing up and couldnt keep anything down! My lap band dr was in surgery so they sent me to the er and BAM did an ultra sound and I had gall stones... Needless to say I just had my gall bladder remove this past Tuesday and he said it was very infected and inflamed... He did take all of the fluid out of my band to give me time to heal... So no I dont have ANY restriction  which sucks!.....I wish they had taken it out at the time of surgery... The anesthesiologist told me while he was discussing putting me to sleep that lap band and gall bladder issues seem to go hand in hand. I wont have any fluid put back in the band till June 2nd when I go for my 2 week post op appointment... He said being over weight and then loosing a lot of weight can really contribute to the gall stones.... -
At What Point Did Your Stomach Capacity Grow?
Aussiegirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 and 1/2 months out from surgery and have noticed over the last week that the quantity of food I can consume has expanded. Not greatly and definitely nothing like pre-surgery. What I am able to consume now feels like an acceptable amount of food. I have also found that my hunger has returned and am eatting small meals a few more times a day (like 5 times a day now), before I barely wanted to eat 3 meals a day. However when i am hungry now I am looking for healthier alternatives, nuts, wholemeal crackers, fruit etc. I am still loosing weight and working out twice a day, my body is probably calling out for sustenance. Anyway, was just wondering when you all experienced/noticed a difference?
