I read on here were so many people can't tolerate so many foods but so far I'm not one of them.....what's wrong with me? I've been on soft foods for a week today and I've even eaten baked chicken and bake pork chop in small bites and chewed like the dickens and they are fine. I don't blend things, I just try to stick to really soft easy to chew foods but so far, it's all been my friend. I even ate a helping of Turkey chili and was fine. I even ate a little bit off a pork rib from Sonny Bryan's and that was fine too. Am I a freak????????

I was able to eat everything an anything before I got my first fill! You're supposed to stick to liquids and mushies for the first couple of weeks and I did for the most part but I would occasionally cheat and I found out I could eat everything before I got my fill.

My band doc will not give you a fill unless you are exercising 5 days per week, eating properly, and have not lost any weight in at least a month's time. She was very upfront with me about this before surgery, and the rules are still the same.

There also one 1 week pre op and pregnant now she's 7 weeks pre op and 6 week the twins are adorable and mom looks great nice and slim

i think that unless your dr gave you a specific # to lose, i wouldnt worry about what number..its all water weight anyhow (but it does count and it does make you feel wonderful). like you, i was in the 300's and i was on the all liquid for 20 days prior to surgery and 2 weeks after. just focus on that liver shrinking and looking gorgeous when the dr goes in there to move it around so the band can be fitted. you get your mind set straight and follow your dr's orders and you are sure to be a winner. (your dr and maya was correct, we all are different heights, weights, physical whatevers). some larger may lose more than some who are not as large as others..that is why what you lose doesnt matter (unless your dr said to lose a said amount. if that is the case, really follow the game plan). ps--also, stay off the scale before and after surgery as that wont matter until you are healing after the surgery. the more you watch the scale going up or down, you will def throw yourself into a not needed tizzy.lll all the best and it will be here before you know it.

My 3XLT's are getting loose but I'm not into the 2x's yet. My wife was hanger drying these shirts 5 weeks ago so they would fit.

I'm still pending insurance approval, but the doc's office called to give me a date because the insurance company needs a date to approve. April 16th! I had doubts about the operation up until I met with the surgeon just recently actually for the first time. Now I feel more positive about everything even though I still have just a general fear of surgery which I guess everyone has a little. Just that something will go wrong and I'm leaving behind my beautiful 14 mo old. Anyway..sorry to be morbid there for a second. Keep your fingers crossed for approval! I should probably know something early next week.

Eating too much post op???!
Solitare replied to ashleyrenee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! Ive got a dilemma and Im not sure how to go about solving it. I was banded on Aug.14th, and have gone through 12 weeks of dieting pre and post surgery. Most of the time I was on protein drinks plus clear liquids, but the week after surgery I was on clear liquids only. My first fill is scheduled for Sept. 15th, and until then, Im supposed to remain on clear liquids and protein drinks. My clear liquids do not include cream of wheat or puddings, just broth, juices, jello and popsicles. The problem is that none of that satisfies me and I'm hungry all the time. After 12 weeks of drinking liquids and protein drinks without a problem, I'm now starting to 'cheat' a little here and there, putting noodles or bits of meat in my broth. I know I shouldnt be doing this, but I also know it will be 2 weeks until my first fill, where I expect to be able to control the hunger with permissable mushies and a filled lap band. My dilemma is, do I continue to do my little cheats to be able to get by until my fill date (Sept. 15th)? Or do I call the doctors office and tell them what my problem is, hoping they'll move the fill date up or let me have some mushies? Anybody else have this happen to them? Thanks for being here! Its nice to read through the posts and know you are all out there going through this just like me! Soli -
This is a strange NSV, but I wanted to share it. I'm a Long Islander, and I was without power (and heat!) for 8 days following Hurricane Sandy. And for three days after my power came back on, we had my mother-in-law stay over because her power wasn't back yet. (She's nice, but I haven't told her about my surgery - she wouldn't understand.) Here's my victory: During that whole time, I managed to make good food choices and not go for comfort food. In the past, I would have binged on Mallowmars and Devil Dogs. In a situation where I previously would have crumbled, my band helped me stand firm. And today I got my reward: I'm down to 199!

I've been a bad girl...BUT....!
Museum-Mama replied to Museum-Mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc and Nut are both strict about sports drinks being sugar free. I had a Powerade zero, a big bottle, and I sipped on it for three days. I got sick of it. lol I picked up some Syntax nectar so that I can stay on top of the Protein and the liquid. Im still so tired though. Not like before, but I do nap for about 5-10 mins to feel better. -

Help on Stall and Calories. 2 week stall why?
suzqlvq posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, I have been on a 2 week stall and I don't know why? My weight has remained the same for 2 weeks and I don't know what I am doing wrong. I work out 4 days a week and consume on average about 800 calories a day. I am 4 1/2 months out and a little frustrated. Is this normal? I don't know if I am maybe not eating enough or eating too much. Any input or advice would be most appreciated. I am very happy with my sleeve but just a little frustrated as to why no loss in 2 weeks. Maybe this is normal? -
Search the topic "3 week stall" and that will provide you with some valuable information. It's common. Your body is adjusting to the caloric intake.
-
Yep, you are doing fine. You will have starts and stops, but the inches continue to drop away even when the pounds are not. Your body needs adjustment times in between chunks of weight loss. Relax, and weigh once a week when you are in a stall, so you don't get stressed.

Linling - I am so there with you. I am just over 2 weeks post op and my doc said that I could start gradually adding "regular" food back into my diet and I am worried about the choices I make, too. After all, that is what my problem was before. I too think that b/c I am eating less, it is ok...perhaps it is, but I do want to make good choices, too. Hang in there, first fills are around the corner. By the way - I bought a book from Amazon.com called Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery: Over 140 Delicious Low-Fat High-Protein recipes to Enjoy in the Weeks, Months and Years After Surgery. I am hoping to find some good recipes to help me with food choices.

I'm3 weeks post op and now I'm back in the hospital to have my gallbladder out tomorrow. I started getting really nauseous when I ate, or drank, had diarrhea. Dr told me to go to the ER - I knew I was getting dehydrated. Got some iv fluids, they did cat scans and ultrasound and my sleeve looked good. But my gallbladder is "sludgy" so surgeon recommends taking it out. I really don't want to have another surgery so soon, but I need to be able to eat and drink, which I can't do now without getting sick. I really hope this fixes my issues.

Should I wait to see if I need an unfill?
Mimilou2004 replied to jazie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, trust your instincts, I kept putting off the unfill for 3 weeks and suffered needlessly. The wt loss wasn't worth the sliming and barfing and PB'ing. Good luck. Mimi -
6mo diet offically started
Julia_N replied to lageil's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to you, Laurie. I, too, had to do a 6-month preop diet. I started mine in September 08, and had all the holidays, plus an anniversary and three birthdays (wait, are we the same person? :mad2:). I didn't have a set amount I had to lose. Mine was sort of strict in that I had 2 protein shakes and one small meal a day. Maybe yours isn't as severe. Everything was going pretty good until the holidays. I stopped losing, but didn't gain. Then I got pneumonia and lost a couple of months of dieting. Got back on track, so it ended up the end of July 09 for me to get surgery. I hope yours goes much more smoothly! I did lose almost 45 pounds preop, so that was a nice start. Best of luck to you in your journey! -
I hear ya... I'm one week post op and while I'm not hungry it seems everything I see on TV is food related. I will start pureed next week and am already planning for meals with flavor. I hope to never see jello again!!

I am one week post op and I am on a full liquid diet. I seriously want to sink my teeth into something... Any idea for meals?

I am seriously considering the lapband surgery because of my struggles with my weight my entire life. I am trying to get my ducks in a row now so that when I decide to move forward with the surgery and pursue it, I know what will be expected. I have been reading on the BCBS of AL website about the bariatric surgery requirements. One says that you have to be at their required BMI for a 3 year period. Well...I have been overweight since I was married in 2001 and even throughout my teenage years (except when I went on WW at 15 yrs old only to gain it all back and more) but in Sept. 07 I began a strict diet of 1300 calories and exercise that just about killed me but I lost 20lbs and got to the 200lb mark. After that I stalled and couldn't lose a thing so I began a doctor supervised weight loss program that included the low cal/low carb/low fat diet and adipex (phentermine) and lost another 25 lbs putting me at 175lbs in Sept. 08. In November 08, I wound up in the ER due to atrial fibrillation and it was suspected that the adipex was the issue. So, I stopped it and of course the weight began to creep back up to around 190lb when in August 09 I found out I was pregnant. Unfortunately, the baby passed away and I miscarried at 15 weeks. At that time I was up to 210lbs. Now, I am at 215 and cannot seem to get my weight to budge. I am tired of the yo-yo dieting and really want to change the whole situation. I am afraid that having done all the dieting a few years ago may mess up my chances of moving forward in the next 6-12 months w/ bariatric surgery b/c of the "three years of obesity" required by my insurance company. None of the diets that I lost the weight on was covered by my insurance and I paid out of pocket for this the entire time. Does this period in my life have to be reported to the insurance company? How do they "document" that I have been obese for 3 years? I rarely go to the doctor other than my OBGYN for my yearly check b/c I am never sick. What records will they pull??? I am hoping (probably to no avail) that maybe these months of being a lower weight might not have to be included in documentation. I should also tell you that I have documented severe sleep apnea if that helps! Any advice??? Thanks in advance! Leigh:smile:
