    With life two things are certain Death and Taxes. With post WLS two things are certain Constipation and Stalls. It happens to us all. Stay the course and although frustrated take it from those of us who went through it, this too shall pass. Good luck and good health.

    I fast between 7PM to 7AM daily and do a 36 hour fast mid week. I stop eating at 7PM on Wednesday and resume eating at 7AM on Friday. During this time I only drink water or tea. I have watched Dr. Fung on You Tube and incorporate his ideas into my overall maintenance plan. It's one more tool in the weight maintenance tool kit.

    What worked for me after some regain was to combine 'time restricted feeding' (i.e. intermittent fasting) with a low carb/low insulin diet plan. I skipped breakfast and only ate two meals a day, at Noon and by 6pm. This let me 'fast' for 18 hours per day. I ate about 3-4 oz. of protein (beef, chicken, fish, etc.) and green vegetables such as green beans, broccoli, salad, etc. for each meal. I was able to drop close to 20 pounds doing this in a couple months. The basis of this is the insulin control program developed by Dr. Jason Fung. You can search his name on the internet and find a lot of useful information. He is the author of the book The Obesity Code.
  4. First of all, don't lose sight of the fact that you have done great so far. You lost 95 pounds! That's fantastic. Since you said that you've stalled and are not losing, I'm assuming that means you haven't started regaining any of the weight, right? If that's the case, then you're in maintenance, so if you want to start losing again, you just have to lower your food intake and/or increase your exercise. Diet has a much bigger effect on weight loss than exercise, but exercise has a lot of other benefits, so it's a good idea to get back into exercise as well, even if it's just a little. Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home videos on YouTube are great, and you can start with short ones (there are several that are 15 minutes or less) if you don't want to or don't have time to do a longer walk or workout. Are you tracking everything you eat? If not, I think that's a great first step to kick-starting a change. Apps like MyFitnessPal or Baritastic make it easy, and tracking can help you identify the easiest changes to make. What are the healthiest foods that you already like to eat? Start eating those things more often, and cut out (or reduce) the stuff that's not worth the calories. If you like to cook, go on Pinterest to find some new recipes that are both tasty and healthy. Finally, I recommend not fixating on a specific number on the scale. Everyone is different, and you may not be able to get to 150, but that doesn't mean you failed. I bet you have already had some great non-scale victories with a 95-pound weight loss. Has your health improved? Are you more able to keep up with your kids? Can you wear clothes from non-plus size stores? Are you less self-conscious in social/professional situations? These things are all more meaningful than a number on the scale.
  5. Sounds like we had our surgeries around the same time. I got to my lowest weight of 164 lbs. About a year after surgery. I started out at 325. I gained back about 10 lbs over the last 2 years, and I felt fine in the 170s. I knew that I wasn’t eating my best though- I was eating whatever I wanted in small portions. That’s not how I wanted to live, and I didn’t feel my best. So 2 weeks ago I tried out the 10 Day Pouch Reset diet- not to shrink my pouch, but to get back control of my eating. I ended up losing 6 lbs during those 10 days. I decided to continue eating clean by cutting out most carbs and wine, and sticking with vegetarian way of eating. I feel great and I lost a few more pounds! So I just thought I’d let you know what worked for me- Good luck! You can do whatever you set your mind to! We have already proven that we can be successful after surgery, sometimes we just need to remind ourselves that we are bariatric patients for life who have to constantly work towards maintaining our new bodies and minds!

HW - 237 LW - 137 (this was also my goal weight) CW - 155 I hit my goal weight 8 months after surgery (November 2019) but, by about 13 months out I was up to 150 pounds, and have been maintaining my weight in the 150’s ever since. I have maintained my weight here for two years and am comfortable, but still long to lose the 20 pounds I regained, and STILL fear gaining back all of the weight.

    Ideal vs Best body weight

    Yeah, it does help explain why the humblebraggers (omg I can only eat 4 calories a week, uguise, I couldn't imagine eating 5! - we've all seen them here) may find it all coming flying back in their faces. They never last long. Unfortunately, they left a trail of shame and self-doubt in those struggling to keep calories down.

    Self pay questions

    I was self pay. My surgery (Loop DS) was in July 2020 in St. Louis. I paid 21,000, which included all the pre and post op testing, surgery, 3 day hospital stay, and 1 year of follow up. I did end up staying in the hospital 4 days, but my surgeon was able to get the hospital not to charge me for that. I still follow up with my surgeon every 6 months, and now we have insurance that covers wls, so those visits are covered. It makes me mad that after never once having insurance thaglt covered wls, practically the second I paid for it myself, we got insurance that covered it. However, I have no regrets and would GLADLY pay thr 21,000 again right now if I had to! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

    Depressed, Sad and Stalled....Need Help Please

    Sometimes life just throws crap at you. Family, health, work, world issues, etc. can turn everything upside down & we look to old habits which offered comfort in the past. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this now after you had made such great progress. Don’t let the crap win. It probably all seems a huge mountain you have to start to climb again but you’ve actually already started. You know what the crap is & how it’s affected you. You know the old habits you’ve fallen back on & the new ones you’ve let slide. Make one change today to reincorporate one of those new habits. Then reincorporate another one next week . Go for a walk, get your protein in, get your fluids in, drop a snack or swap out a meal choice or whatever you’re ready to do each week. You’ll get there & you’ve great motivators in your children. All the best.

    I had a similar conversation with my surgeon (but about my continued weight loss) & my response was the same: I can only eat what I can physically eat. I added snacks up to 5 a day & yes I felt like I was eating all day long. I still made pretty careful choices & added complex carbs & some more fat. Choosing from: cheese, humus or liverwurst & multigrain crackers, protein bar, yoghurt, fruit, roasted fava or chick peas, chia pudding, nuts, etc. I also use non diet salad dressings, full fat milk, add seeds & beans to meals. I don’t do sweet or breads, pasta, etc. & cook most of what I eat myself. I don’t drink shakes or need multi vitamins. Sometimes small change or swap in food choices can make big differences. I can only eat 1.5 eggs (approx 10g protein & 235 calories) but I can usually eat a full serve of rolled oats cause I keep it liquidy (make on milk, add seeds). approx 15g protein, 380 calories. No empty calories, lots of nutrients. My weight loss stopped when I was consuming about 1300 calories (about 18 months after surgery) but I’m not tall, have a smaller frame, am in my mid 50s & not very active. But you're not me & you may need more calories. You have to work out how much food your body needs to function effectively at a weight your happy at while living & enjoying your life how you want. It just takes time & some need more than others. Took me a good 2 years to get my portion sizes to about recommended sizes for most things. I still snack but about 3 times a day. Not sure how many calories I eat now as I’ve increased my protein intake a little due to an absorption issue (from gall surgery not sleeve surgery). Just start making small changes, try different things & see how you go & what works for you. It’s the only way.

    Hi Friends, I'm 8 months post RNY. SW 308 lbs, CW 213 lbs. Height 159 cm. I was on a steady losing path until Jan this year due to my walking (10k) daily. However, we had a bad family fight in Jan which has led to me being depressed and lethargic. I've kinda stalled since then and there has been zero progress. I'm scared I'm throwing all this away and fearful since I'm overeating and not losing. Any advice on how to kickstart my weight loss again please. My goal weight is 150 lbs and I really want to do this for my kids. Please help me

    Really interesting - thank you for this! The 3 month calculation already hasn't worked out for me - I lost very slowly at the start. I didn't know that there was a correlation (and I wonder how close that is) between the appearance of the neck and upper chest, and visceral fat. Also never considered that excessive dietary restriction or excessive exercise after surgery might raise the body's set point. Really worth watching - thanks again. 🤗
  20. I think this happens to lots of people and will happen to lots of us here. I would (being me) analyse the heck out of why it happened, try not to let that set of circumstances arise in the future, and then forgive myself and move on. It's one day and one chocolate bar - it's not the rest of your life and guilt can be so destructive. I was a massive consumer of chocolate before my surgery. I keep a 100% bar in the cupboard for times I *think* I need some. No sugar but mega chocolaty and I love it, but don't eat more than a square or two at a time. I had anti-acid medication for 3 months post op and have been fine since then without it (thankfully!)

    I stalled for a long time (several months) and I am within healthy weight range so I figured I was now at maintenance. I stopped weighing myself so often because I’m not obsessed about it…. BUT…. I guess I started losing again because I am at 173 this morning. If I reach 155 that is an unhealthy range for my height. So I am still twenty pounds from an unhealthy range and I have to pick up the calories before I get there and drop below that threshold. (family wise: my moms side of the family tends to be very thin and they usually fall below the norm BMI weight ratio) as far as activity: I don’t go out of my way to exercise but I am very active during the day. I am on my feet all day as a teacher, I go out and play handball/basketball with my students during recess and lunch, constantly walking across our large campus, and rotating the classroom all day as well. I swim and go to the beach with my own kids or hike with them on weekends. I’m definitely not sedentary but I’m not running any 5ks either. My joints are still damaged and I have to be careful. the nurse recommended strength training with resistance bands to help maintain muscle mass. she didn’t tell me NOT to loose more weight, she just told me that I should be looking towards improving my calorie count so my body doesn’t go into starvation mode and messing with my metabolism. i guess I will just have to throw in some snacks and get used to brushing my teeth a zillion times a day. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve been looking up higher calorie healthy foods and I’ll try some out next week

    March surgery buddies

    Hi I had my gastric bypass 3/16. I am 2 days into my Purée Stage. The liquid stage was easy in the beginning but toward the end it was becoming boring. Your stomach is smaller so liquid phase wasn’t difficult for me as much as boring-I was ready for Stage 2. I was really excited to have some purée food and I started with 8oz of skim milk with 1/2 tablespoon of Hershey’s simply 5 syrup. It was delicious and I am NOT a milk drinker. The milk counted toward my water allotment and honestly that is the MOST difficult part so far. You have drink but stop 1/2 hr before a meal than wait 1/2 hr after your (20 minute meal). There are some factors to consider to eat proper for nourishment and hydration. I lost 11 lbs. in a week so it’s working. YOU will lose weight. How is everyone else doing?

    I just read your update from 5/21, and it was so helpful…I read most of your posts. Thank you for taking the time to write so completely of your experience. I appreciate it so much. You are almost a yeSr out now, and I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I had to laugh at your liverwurst craving soon after your surgery. When I was of with my first, 43 yrs ago, I had a liverwurst sandwich every.single.day for lunch. 🤣 I haven’t had one since, but I ate it for 36 weeks. She, to this day, has an amazing memory. I’m convinced it’s the liverwurst sandwiches. Thank you again, and I hope you are well.
