    Sweet tooth

I have had peanut butter, yogurt, fresh fruit, and sugar free popsicles. I use moderation.

    Pill crushing

I never crushed, though I know of others who have and then mixed the bits into sugar-free applesauce, Greek yogurt, or mashed potatoes. I cut my larger Vitamins (multi, calcium). Post-op meds were liquid (Vicodin) and very small tablets (Pepcid). For what it's worth, a too-large pill that gets "stuck" is uncomfortable, but with time and drinking fluids it WILL go down.

    3 days post op

I have that same itchy stripe under one boob. I freak out for a second and had my husband take a look at it. My mouth isn't really dry but I constantly have an awful taste. I started with protein this morning. I'll have some yogurt in another 45 minutes. Sipping is a full time job. No wonder I had to take 3 weeks off work.
  5. My doctors orders were to crush pills for two weeks. Then I was allowed to swallow anything smaller than my little finger tip. At one month I was cleared to swallow all pills including the "horse pills" I took for blood pressure. I spoke to the pharmacist to make sure crushing was appropriate to my medications. Interestingly even she had to look one up to be sure. I put them in whatever I could get down. For me this was mostly mixed into a little yogurt. But I would certainly have put them in a Protein shake so I think you are just fine doing it that way. As in all things, though, speak with YOUR surgeon or nutritionist since they may have a preference. Good news is that this is just short term and with the weight loss you may very well find you need less medications!

    Sweet tooth

Give yourself a break and have something. Try to incorporate some sweets into your routine. Its a great time of year for fresh fruit. But as others said, there's yogurt (the whips) are great, pudding, popsicles, and plenty of other stuff.
  7. I'm one month out Monday, still having nausea, & can only tolerate string cheese, yogurt, and broth. Anyone else have this issue?
  8. I love love love pureed cauliflower, with plain greek yogurt mixed in and shredded cheese (& garlic and chopped onion and crumbled bacon) I made the best loaded baked cauliflower ever, and it saved me during those days. Tastes just like loaded baked potato!! If you can't have the bacon, just pick it out. But it flavors the cauliflower very well!! You can google the recipe, it's a pretty popular recipe.

    Preparations for after surgery

I had quite a long time to prepare so I went on a bit of a shopping spree gradually picking up things I thought I could use. I also happen to love buying things like pretty dishes. Some of the things I bought that I found useful or plan to use in the near future: Heating pad Biotene Chapstick (Above for hospital and post-op) Adult liquid Tylenol Appetizer spoons (some people like toddler dishes, etc. - I prefer adult things that happen to be small) Sushi dishes Saki cups Small rice bowls (I use these all the time) - 9 oz so comfortably holds 1/2 -3/4 cup yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Glass 1/2 cup containers (with lids) Plastic 1/2 cup ziplock containers (with lids) A Soup mug (I had a pretty pottery one already) A food scale Good measuring cups/spoons (if you don't have already) Samples of a variety of Protein shakes/powders Blender (if you don't have one -- I don't use it much) Good Water bottle(s) Shaker bottle for mixing shakes Vitamins

    Sweet tooth

I've had sweet things but don't count them as "slips". Protein shakes, fruit, yogurt, pudding, fruit drinks (like crystal light, and Popsicles have all been plenty sweet.

    What are you eating?

Eleven months out. I have a low calorie English muffin with some sort of cheese on top or peanut butter. Occasionally it's a home made egg mcmuffin with turkey bacon. Lunch is varied, greek yogurt and a small banana, chicken and a small salad,a chicken fajita with beans, but no tortilla. 2 snacks one is usually cottage cheese. Sometimes nuts or cheese and crackers or yogurt or turkey meatballs. Supper is some sort of protein with about1/4 cup/1/2 cup of veg. Occasionally 1/2 cup of potato or rice. I occasionally have sugar free ice pops and sugar free pudding or jello.

    Protein input

I use the Isopure unflavored. I actually prefer it over the flavored ones. No sugar, no carbs and not a bunch of junk to trigger my food allergies. I add it to my protein shakes in the morning that I make from scratch with Fage 0% greek yogurt. I also add them to soup, coffee, and teas both hot and cold. It's a nice added protein boost.
  13. ShrinkingPeach

    Protein input

I haven't bought any of the unflavored because I am not having any issues with my Protein intake. I use one Protein shake a day and it has 30g in it. With the fish, chicken and turkey I eat I get enough in my day. I also use greek yogurt as my snack when I want to have one and I manage to get 60-80 g a day.

    2 week liquid pre-op diet

Hello, I'm also on day 3 of the 2 week liquid diet. I was struggling the first 2 days. Today is a little better and I don't have the headache anymore. Yes, I'm hungry, but it's tolerable. I couldn't wait to get this liquid diet started, but honestly, I didn't expect it to be quite the challenge that it turned out to be. But I think it will make it easier to adjust to the new dietary lifestyle after the surgery. It won't be quite as drastic of a change. They are allowing me to have smoothies, creamy Soup, juice, SF pudding, yogurt without chunks, things that can be drunk through a straw. Seems a little less restrictive than what some of you are talking about.
  15. I am curious about the amount other people can eat. Like I can eat 1/2 cup of potato soup, 1/2 of a small sweet potato with plain yogurt, etc.

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond

It's going very well so far. I actually feel better than I have in a long time. While I miss a lot of foods, especially yogurt and cheese sticks, my congestion and some skin issues have cleared up in only a few days. I have more energy. I LOVE the taste of the foods my husband and I have made. I've realized I still have an attachment/addiction to some foods (chocolate, ice cream, Splenda) that needs to be broken. Like breaking any addiction it's not easy, but I know it will be worth it! Here is a look at some of the meals we ate this week:

    The post-op stuggle 1 week

Never thought of mixing with protein powder. That's a great idea. I do plain greek yogurt with lemon crystal light, but your way make sure to get extra protein in. Great tip!

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond

How is the Whole30 plan going? I've been considering it, but I'm not sure I can give up my daily yogurt and night glass of red.... ????
  21. Unfortunately WE do have to learn to eat a LOT more slowly & chew any bite of food till it's like mush , I am 3 years out & I still have to chew like that , even when I eat something soft like yogurt , I have to let it sit until it's consistency of liquid until I can take another bite & if there is fruit added or granola , I still have to eat that way & if I eat at a restaurant , I have to put my fork, knife & spoon which ever it is I'm using down between bites & I ask for a glass of Tea NO sugar or water just in case but I always ask for a to go container & cup because I know I won't finish, also YOU may want to mention to YOUR SURGEON that food keeps getting stuck that's what they are for to help YOU , if you need some answers.
  22. I am on full liquids until the 9th......really tough to get in the shakes and Water all day. I went back to work this past Monday as I am a caterer/wedding planner and this is busy season. I am around fabulous delicious catered food everyday - but haven't felt hungry for it. My mind just tells me it wants it, though! I am definitely in bed by 8:30pm very tired from lack of calories I think. My birthday was yesterday, and my family got a birthday cake with the message "Happy Birthday Mommy - sorry you can't eat this!" then they put a candle on top of a premier Protein next to it. It was hilarious! I am so ready for something else besides chicken broth. I even called my NUT and asked if I could go ahead and advance to yogurt or creamed soups and she said not until my check up next Tuesday. Good news is that I am down 12 pounds since May 24th - so that keeps me excited about this journey. I have been sleeping better than I have in months. Friend brought me awesome Protein powder that is truly tasteless so I added that to Carnation French vanilla breakfast packets - that was a nice change. Have to admit, feels like I will never be able to eat real food again!

    Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!

I have never been good at tracking, calories, etc., but here is my typical day: Breakfast: Quest Bar (filling and the Fiber really really helps me) Lunch: Quiche (minus the crust) or leftover meat from dinner Dinner: some sort of meat I have made my family - Half of a grilled cheeseburger patty, grilled Italian sausage link, small portion of grilled chicken, steak, pot roast, etc. and typically a tiny portion of whatever carb I served (I can't go no carb!). Snack: cheese stick, hummus with a few pretzel chips, a few cups of popcorn, a small portion of nuts, frozen yogurt... I won't lie, I'm not a veggie fan so I really don't eat any.

    Regrets

Hang in there- it will get better. My surgery was a month ago. (May 4) I had a lot of pain at first too. 1) Focus on getting fluids first- stay hydrated- one sip at a time. 2) Once that is under control, then worry about Protein.... I had a good start- one week on full liquids, one week on pureed foods, then I started on soft foods. I pulled a muscle, which caused pain and nausea, and I ended up in the hospital for dehydration. So I had to go back to square one- Clear Liquids for a week, and just starting on Protein shakes and yogurt. It was a set back, but I am starting fresh and feeling really good now. It will get better!

    One month post op

NewNewMe, Congratulations on your surgery and progress! I have to say…it’s looking good! That’s a ton of weight to lose in three (and now four) weeks. Stalls are discouraging, but they happen. They also end if you stick to the plan. Some people find shakes and bars to be helpful for getting in the Protein. Since they can be sweet, some people find them more appetizing than “substantial” foods like chicken, fish, and yogurt. For both food and drink: remember the importance of convenience! Get your food ready the day before or in the morning so it’s ready for you when it’s time to eat. No excuses for skipping meals! Between meals, keep the Water bottle nearby so you don’t have to try to remember to drink enough. Prepare your drink beforehand, whether it’s slicing up lemon for your water or brewing up tea to make iced tea. About being tired: It can definitely be a side effect of the WLS diet. You’re cutting calories – which means you’re cutting energy. What you can do to support yourself during this time is take care of all the other things that could be making you tired. Are you getting enough water? Sounds like you may not be, from what you mentioned. Dehydration can make you tired. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you taking your supplements? If you get Iron deficiency anemia, you’re going to feel tired. Good luck! You’re doing great!
