Need Help getting my protein intake!!
GreenTealael replied to JayBunz18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is! (and expensive too) I only bought one bag 10 months ago. I use it for specialized recipes. -
Thing is, quite a few people change gears after a couple of years. If they happen to hang around for a time span of several years (I'm talking 5 or more years, even more than 10 years) you can notice how people might change their point of view on several things. Even if they were gone in between for a year or two, some hang around for quite a long time but they're very, very rare. Some gained, some gained significant, some had revisions out of various reasons, some maintained, some struggle with a change of eating disorder... Typical life changers seem to be new partners, having kids, transitioning from university to working, changing over from the working force into retirement. These "big things", you know.

I had the sleeve a little over 3 years ago, I lost 100 lbs, but gained 30 last year and then 24 during my pregnancy. I had my baby in June and I've lost 10 lbs but I can't seem to lose anymore. I really do not eat much, but I know I definitely do not eat all healthy. Unfortunately I have sugar cravings and eat a little something every now and then. What can I do to get back on track? I NEED to start losing again, I'm starting to hate myself.

Thanks Matt. I didn't use the term since most people who don't working in healthcare or insurance don't know the term. Heck, some people who do work in these don't know what it means. UHC is making some changes to their policy effective 11/1 but their website isn't yet showing what those changes are. The link in the provider newsletter didn't work either. I'm hoping that for 2019 policies they remove the exclusion clauses so more UHC patients are covered for bariatric surgery.

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Morning/afternoon all! I had a pretty easy fasting day yesterday. Ended up doing a 24 hour fast with only 1 meal + about 4oz PP in decaf about an hour later-- cuz I was super too low on protein-- but I don't normally like drinking anything that close out from a meal. Today I'm gonna do a 14/10 without food restriction and will maybe have 3 meals + some coconut oil + PP in my coffee for BCAAs. Think PP has BCAAs roflmao!! Plus I wanted it mkay? Only thing is that now after 1 cup of the coconut oil coffee (sorry Dave, I can't bring myself to say Bulletproof Coffee cuz the coffee isn't your's and the idea wasn't yours either)...I'm no longer hungry. So will just hang out and work until I feel moved to eat. For those of you who never struggle with hunger (physiological or head), I don't know if you can remember back to pre-surg days where you did and how awful that feels. It's also scary because you know you don't want to blow your golden shot, and you WANT to be compliant with your doc's/RDs plans about no snacking between meals!! And don't overeat your meals! But for me, with a larger than average pouch capacity at this stage in my post surgery recovery, this feeling of satiety and well-being that I get from IF is magical. It's a natural hunger suppressant. And I eat my normal amount--sometimes a tiny bit less at my meals. I no longer have to battle myself to push it past a 3 or 4 hour window for eating. And I do actively feel like I'm in control rather than my hunger hormones and head are driving the bus to hell. That is not to say I am not human and don't have those times when I just want or do say WTF let's hit it my people--and party down...it is just that those times aren't hitting me by surprise and making compliance very very difficult after this 1st month IF. I've always enjoyed my food choices--I actively LOVE and look forward to my ketogenic meals and lifestyle. After most of the past 18 years it's just a natural fit. And the times when rogue comfort foods rear their ugly heads and say, "Eat me! Eat me! Oh choose me!!!" feel very distant--for today. Realize that tomorrow or in 2 hours things could always go sideways. LOL. I'm only one "next best bite away" from being a hungry hungry heffer and sinnin sister. Ok, that's all I got for today. -
Met pre-surgery weight requirement and went to my PCP for the official weigh-in on 9/25/18. That was forwarded to Kaiser and they called me and scheduled an appointment to meet with the surgeon on 12/04/18. We will decide on the type of surgery and what day the operation will take place at that appointment. I will also meet with the dietitian on the same day (not sure what we're going to talk about). I'm hoping to get the surgery in 2018 so I can start 2019 with a new plan of attack.

40 something sleevers?
Jdesmond73 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Great point! I have been saying that I should have done this 10 Years ago but at 34, I don't think I would have had the maturity or dedication to truly change my lifestyle. Best of luck to you! -
I have a charm bracelet (in the Pandora style, but it isn't Pandora-branded) that I'm adding a charm to, every time I lose 10 pounds.

Any updates for 4 months out sleevers?
AllyJonesVSG replied to AllyJonesVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think clothes sizes have expanded since I weighed 170 17 years ago? I was a size 10 at 170 lbs. Today I put on a size 12 old Navy pair of jeans (snug but comfortable) at 212 lbs. (which is 60 lbs down today, WOOT!!). I know it won't take me 52 lbs to get from size 12 to size 10. This is weird. I'll be a size 6 at 170# at this rate... -

My experience so far with sleeve (6 weeks in)
MargoCL replied to jultrim18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think what a lot of us forget is hunger pains and hunger are not the same. One is fueled directly by hunger the other is likely thirst. When I feel hunger pains, I start to drink water and within 5 - 10 minutes my hunger has disappeared. If I can drink 20 oz of water within 3 hours of getting up - I am less hungry throughout the day. Add 40 oz and I'm barely hungry. I also keep a canister of mixed nuts near my office desk, if I feel like the water hasn't satisfied my hunger I take 4 - 6 nuts and eat them slowly. My hunger immediately goes away until I'm ready for my next actual meal. At home I substitute a spoonful of peanut butter or cottage cheese (whichever is in stock). -
How’s the taste of that particular brand. My surgery date is 10/24 and can’t seem to find one I really like. Have you tried the grass fed protein Ones?

Surgery is scheduled for 10/29. I call my insurance daily. I'm thankful bariatric surgery is in my plan. The requirements are still daunting. What requirements did people find helpful and/or unnecessary?

Hello, I am so frustrated I could cry, I have been waiting for a call back from my surgeons office . I had the appointment for the orientation and with the surgeon on 10 Sept. The nurse told me the person who would put in my referrals and who would let me know everything that I need to do has literally ignored my phone calls . I say this because when I called her from another number over a week ago she answered and tried to blow me off, but I kept her on the phone she told me the Dr. hadn't done the note and that she couldn't do what she need to do until she knew what he wanted. I felt like that was a BIG FAT LIE. I knew she was leaving soon , so I called Friday 28 Sept and the voice mail had the new ladies voice so today is Monday called her back and it went to voice mail again. This is so frustrating I don't know if the old person trained the new person not to answer the phone and to just check the messages and call back the patient, but I will see if she calls by the end of the day. But I did call the office manager on my lunch break ande it went to her voice mail , but they did say that she could be at lunch. I will see how long it takes her to call me back. I could be being a LITTLE inpatient . Tell me what do you think or what would you do . This is Basically a rant:(

How are our October 1 sleevers doing? Tomorrow's folks - @bmatt418, @cindy t, @Deanayeah, @Lizzieming, @Marla522, @nikoleroze, @Oct517 - are you ready? Best of luck to you all! Check in when you can! I'm one of the October 3 folks, and I won't do my post-surgery check-in before I get home on (here's hoping) the 4th--I use these forums through the browser, not the app. I also won't update the list of surgery buddies for a couple of days, so if someone else wants to, feel free? But I'll scroll back and add people, once I'm up to it, so no worries. Here's the list as it stands now, so you can all find and befriend your surgery buddies! ❤️ Oct 1: aapb79Gmail.com chicagogirl74 chuckwalsh clara1900 cw19147 irishgal21 JennieJuniper momofmjbm Red Alicia Yare_2018 Oct 2: bmatt418 cindy t Deanayeah Lizzieming Marla522 nikoleroze Oct517 Oct 3: boringtessa crankymagpie LosingLbs18 mamadownsizing sekud02 Oct 4: AriesMary25 btrfly kerbear1980 mspink702 rnchaveri1 sleevemebaby7781 swisskath Oct 5: rafc100 Suesloosinit Oct 8: Crystalmartin82 jhojho90 Oct 9: bigcurt emccomis mailchickie76 Oct 10: busyforever fandangle MeeAhhh oct102018 Oct 11: aussie Ange healthygirl05 kathy060464 UncleBeezy willowfinely Oct 12: afer0841 zpratt Oct 14: katiemarie22 Oct 15: allyb15 annaisbananas April1965 JessLess MegsNiko (or maybe the 17th?) recreating_courtney Tina6769 Oct 16: 2shea beccaconaty87 br3n Thisismytime Wincy Oct 17: Chello219 Grapefruit JustKeepSwimming OpsMatt Oct 18: shazz73 Oct 22: clb164 kimberlymi laceco marciamae3474 Oct 23: kdiddle31 mimi tahoegirl96118 Oct 24: Beachladee3 GirlShrinking tuttlemomma Oct 25: AndreaK. kiwiangel23 Oct 26: carebear38 shany1567 Oct 29: 1BigHeart jflower88 Kai91 kjallen nedawson1908 Rgiannos Oct 30: sleevegirl88 Oct 31: relaxrelaterelease

10/15 for me too!
-
Mine is scheduled for 10/15 also! I am excited. I am fearful for other people when I start the pre op diet on the 1st! LOL
-
My surgery date is 10/15/18 - the day before my 25th wedding anniversary. I am extremely excited, but nervous. I have had major surgery before, so not really worried about the surgery itself, I just don't want to let myself down.

@CrankyMagpie my date is on 10/16

Help me with my Grad School Project, please? :)
FLHappyGirl replied to BlueBongo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm about 1 1/2 years out from surgery. I feel that I was well prepared about the actual surgery and eating during each stage for the most part. I always planned on changing my lifestyle to include exercise but it never dawned on me I would become the girl lifting weights, building strength and looking for muscles under my droopy skin. The last 10 lbs have not come off easily even with vigorous exercise, strength training and conditioning. I know I am stronger, leaner and have good cardio stamina for someone my age. I know I have more muscle than when I started but I have no idea what I should be eating to maintain or lose that last 10 lbs of fat while building MORE muscle. In short, I'd love to see nutrition programs specifically for bariatric patients and our inability to ingest large meals at one sitting that allow for muscle building along with the typical maintenance programs. I hope that makes some sense! I wish you much success with your studies! Keep us posted on what area you decide to focus on.
