Congratulations!!!!!!!! 156 would be a dream come true for me! Way to go ! Can I ask you what you started your weight with. Also thanks for the advice. I had my first egg this morning with spinach and cheese. Ate two bites chewed and chewed and that was it for me. So my left shoulder starts to hurt every time I eat. I called a specialist on it and they said its normal. It's my body sign your full. Strange right??? Going to have some yogurt for lunch and some Soup for dinner. These days I'm so busy and tired I don't have the time or energy To eat and haven't had a Protein shake in so many days too. Once again a big congrats!!!!!!

I used the Sunray calcium citrate capsules and opened them into my Greek yogurt. Made it a little gritty, but at that point I welcomed ANY texture. My 6 month labs showed my calcium was high so I quit taking them. My Iron was also high so I quit taking them, too. 12 month labs showed iron was normal and calcium still a little high, even without the supplement. So make sure to followup with bloodwork since nutrition is not a "one size fits all"

5 weeks Gastric bypass surgery

The problem is that it's not only cucumber even when i eat yogurt the same thing happened i thought that i eat too much but it's only a couple of table spoons that's what I'm confused about -
I didn't do protein shakes once I could eat real food. All of my protein came from the real food. I made jello with fruit flavored protein--Jay Robb Pina Colada protein goes great with lime, orange or raspberry jello--but a lot of the protein came from eggs, which I ate every day in one form or another; plain Greek yogurt, Fage, which tastes like sour cream; nonfat cheese; various meats; nonfat refried beans; and the like.

Week 4: May 27-31st Sleevers
DSMCasey replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, My wife and I had our surgery on May 29th. We've both lost around 35lbs with 10-12 of those pounds coming off in the pre-op diet. My wife is eating about 500 calories per day. I'm eating about 900 per day. I still can't eat much per meal, but this brings me to my 1st issue (and hers a bit too). 1. I get hungry at night. I eat, then hungry an hour or two later. I don't get hungry before 4pm. I wake up at 7am and eat a greek yogurt or something for Breakfast and then Soup or something small for lunch. I can't eat over a cup (unless its liquid, then I can), I also don't drink during my meals or 15 minutes before and 30 mins after. My wife wife also gets hungry at night too, but not nearly as bad. She says pretty much the same thing, no hunger during the day but eats anyway to get her Protein, then hungry at night. Any cures for this? 2. I can't get enough Water in. I mean, before sleeve I drank like one glass a week or something but now I'm trying hard to get 64oz + per day but I just can't do it. I feel like the titanic taking in that much water! I usually get 48oz + Any tips? Thanks! -
Week 4: May 27-31st Sleevers

Ahh makes sense. I haven't had any issues with that ever though. I really like the Muller Fruit in the corner (you can get coupons for this and its cheaper than chobani), I also like the chobani 100 calorie greek yogurt and the chobani fruit in the bottom 130 calories. The only "stuck" issues I have are with Pasta of any kind, very hard/dense Proteins such as pork chops (I haven't even tried steak yet!), breads of any kind including corn and flour tortillas. On a side note I had a small chili from Wendy's today for lunch, I even got cheese on it to up the Protein a little. For 250 calories it was a full meal that wasn't too bad (you can get it with 170 calories if you don't get the cheese). Definately a meal I will go back to when I'm out and about with nothing super healthy to eat. -
I think you need a new doctor. I think the advice you're being given is dangerous and sets you up to overeat and stretch your sleeve. It also sets you up for low blood sugar, hunger, fatigue, and fainting...that can be downright dangerous if you have to drive and difficult to have a productive day. It's not teaching you to eat the right foods. It's not teaching you to consume sensible portions. It's not teaching you much of anything other than starvation. Re-educating yourself how to deal with food is essential to long term success. I just don't see how this is a sustainable "forever diet". And if it's not....how and what will you transition to when you haven't been given any skills? My clinic sets a goal of 1200 calories and 60+ grams of protein per day during weight loss phase. We can either eat three 400 calorie meals, or six 200 calorie meals...or any combination we'd like as long as net calories are 1200 per day. I personally prefer to do three tiny meals during the day, a bigger meal for dinner, and another tiny meal around 8pm (usually it's got a desert vibe, like fruit or cupcake yogurt, or a chocolate protein bar.) This is how my day usually works: 200 breakfast (oatmeal and coffee with protein shake for creamer/an egg and half a slice of whole grain toast/fruit and yogurt/etc) 200 lunch ( 3 ounces of pork chop or chicken breast with green beans/sweet potatoe with pecans and salad/BLT wrap/chef salad with hard boiled egg/homemade veggie soup and slice of homemade bread) 200 midday snack (protein muffin/half a cup of potato salad/veggie and hummus/etc) 400 dinner (Crab boil/steak salad with eggs and swiss/protien pasta with salad and homemade wholegrain bread/chicken stir fry/stuffed pepper/ vegetarian chili and cheese on a baked potato/etc) 200 after dinner snack (strawberries with chocolate sauce/watermellon/frozen grapes/cupcake yogurt/oatmeat with pecans and cherries/chocolate protein bar) I like a little sweet after dinner, and usually do this after I finish my 12,000 steps for the day...sort of my reward. I eat a lot of really satisfying delicious food. I'm getting an education about portions and making healthier choices. I'm eating a ton of fruits and veggies, lean proteins and complex carbs. I LOVE my diet. I feel better on it. Tons of energy. Exercise is a big part of my day, too...and I have the energy to enjoy doing it. Weight loss has been slow and steady:) Getting close to goal:)

I'm eating upwards of 6 times a day. I won't say 6 "meals" because folks tend to think "Plate full of food" when it's really not that way at all. I'll have a protein shake in the morning, most times I add frozen fruit to it I'll have a protein snack a few hours later, this could be one of Kay's Naturals, or some greek yogurt or other protein heavy snack I'll have something else protein heavy a few hours later Later in the day I'll have a sandwich or something, super high grain count breads, low/no fat cheese, lean meats I'll have another snack of some nature, typically fresh fruit or some oatmeal I have another shake later, I'm using Casein protein for muscle recovery overnight And I'm getting upwards of 128oz of water a day as well. Spend at least an hour in the gym each day on top of what I do all day for exercise. Been going fairly smoothly thus far.

I think I have an ulcer....I am almost one year post op and have been doing ok with my high protien low carb diet but at six months I started drinking coffee again...just one large cup most days....and a few weeks ago I took ibuprofen twice for a bad sunburn....now for the last 5 days I have had some pretty bad burning pain in my stomach...cant really eat too much...just my greek yogurt and some eggs and string cheese. It hurts a bit even after drinking water. I am pretty sure it is an ulcer. I am going to stop my coffee for awhile and start a 2 week course of prilosec and see if that helps. I have my one year follow up in 3 weeks so i will ask then. good luck!

Different Restriction through the day
ResaRoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 6 months post op mini bypass. I’ve noticed in the last month or so that I feel restriction still in the mornings and can eat very little (ex. 1/2 cup yogurt and some berries). But in the evenings, I can easily eat 2-3 times as much as in the morning before I feel the restriction. Is this common? Is it because I haven’t eaten at night so my stomach is less “stretched” in the morning? It just seems very odd. I find that if I’m not portioning out my meal properly in the evening, it can be easy to over eat, or at least eat more than I plan to eat. -
Yeah all dr's seem to be different. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and I'm still on mostly liquid. My dr wants me to be on that until next week. I've been trying things though here and there. I've found that I seem to be now lactose intolerant to the non-fat milk products like yogurt. Which bums me out because I love milk etc. I have been trying beans, eggs, and I tried a bit of potato. I know others are usually on the full mushy or soft stage by now. I honestly think it depends on your body as well

You were allowed to have that in the first week post op? My doc said clear liquids..but then said coffee was ok with sugar free sugar and creamer,...then said Yogurt was ok..as long as it was thinned no lumps (so any yogurt as long as it doesnt have lumps?) Im wondering why everyones post op diet is so different. -
One Week post op appointment and soft foods
Princess Sarah posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor was very happy with my progress so far and said that I can start exercising and driving now. Very happy about the driving part because my husbands driving scares the crap out of me! Does anybody have recommendations on the first soft foods to try such as yogurt, soup, or cheeses? I'm a little worried about how my stomach is going to react but also really excited to eat food! How were some of anyone else's first soft food experiences? -
One Week post op appointment and soft foods
califmomto4 replied to Princess Sarah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any problems with foid but I've played it safe! I went from liquid to puree. I stuck with greek yogurt, tuna fish, occasional refried Beans. When I went to "soft" foods...I ate a lot if fish. -
I posted nearly the same thing a couple of months ago, and we share a band-date  Everyone told me, which I have since implemented, that the time I'd been told to wait was ridiculous. I actually do feel better seeing you were told the same thing, silly as it sounds, because I was starting to feel like I'd imagined that wait time! A lot of responses I got were that I should wait at least a half an hour before and after. My band isn't really restrictive just yet, so I can sometimes get away with less time, but I only do that when I'm extremely can't-wait-another-5-minutes kind of thirsty. I don't take any fiber supplements, but I have noticed certain foods help me - like beans (lentils specifically - but you can see the fiber content on any package/can), broccoli, apples and grapes. Also, yogurt (in general) seems to help. Just for flavor ideas, I sometimes get either regular plain yogurt or greek yogurt, and cut in some mango or add a scoop of protein powder for flavor. Based on other answers before mine though, fiber you can add to water definitely sounds like a good idea. The one thing my doc warned me about is that fiber fills you up, so maybe don't take it right before you're going to eat, or after a meal. Not sure about the liquid fiber though.

Those items were suggested to me by my bariatric team. They specify it can be either regular, 98% fat free, or Healthy Request. The drinkable yogurt is Dannon Light n' Fit Carb and Sugar Control. And the sugar-free carnation instant breakfast is used for making "power milk" with dry milk and skim milk. My daily protein goal is 60-80g. Thank you for reminding me of the fiber supplement. That was listed on the next stage.

Anyone Else In The 350+ Pre-Op Weight Range?
Chicago1962 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weighted 397 when I finally got approved for surgery. I lost 30 pounds pre-op eating two shakes, some lite yogurt, and a McDonald’s southwest grilled chicken salad a day. I had my surgery on 6/12/12. It has now been just over three months and I have lost an additional 56 pounds - so 86 in all. I had various goals that meant a lot to me over the past three months. One was getting under 350. One was getting under 340 which is what I weighed when my mom died 19 years ago. Then it was getting under 320. Now it's getting to 307 which will mean 90 pounds lost. My other goals have revolved around movement. When I started this process I had to illegally park in the visitor parking at work each day. I simply could not walk from the parking lot - and could barely walk from the close-up visitor spots. I now park as far out in the parking lot as possible and even walk around the parameter of the very large parking lot several days per week at lunch. This has been HUGE for me. I cannot really see much difference in my body yet. 311 is still a very heavy body. But I can sit in a booth now. I have moved my car seat up several times. I no longer need my seatbelt extender. I can sit in outdoor plastic chairs with arms. My clothes are falling off me. My rings are too big. My bangle bracelets fit again. And my feet don't hurt nearly as much as they used to. I think I am craving some connections with people who are over 350+ because so many of the stories I read here are about people who weigh so much less. I realize we are all on the same journey - but those of us in the "super morbidly obese" category have a much longer road ahead - and I for one want to walk that road with some of you who know just what I'm facing. I'd like to hear your stories - support you - cry and laugh with you - and seriously do this journey together!!! Amy in Chicago -
Tania, We all fear that we're going to fail at this, and that fear's probably a good thing. It means we remember the way life was before, and we don't want to go back there. It means we realize that it's possible to end up back there if we're not careful. (And yes, with a mature sleeve you can get pretty far off track, and with enough grazing and empty calories regain a lot of weight! I can consume a frightening amount of Peanut Butter, or chocolate, or slider foods.) But the good news is, whether you fail or not is completely up to you! You know what to do - get plenty of liquids, lots of dense Protein, protein first at meals, avoid carbs and sweets, no drinking with meals, get some exercise. I've learned a lot about myself and what works for me in the past 15 months, and I'm sure you have too. I've learned that for me, personally, a little bit of a "treat" can restart the carb/sugar craving spiral and drag me off track for weeks, so I have to really consider whether that treat is worth it, and be vigilant for an increase in cravings and snacking for a few days afterwards. I've learned that cottage cheese and greek yogurt may be yummy, and nutritionally fine choices, but they won't keep me full like cooked chicken breast. I've learned that I'm an eat everything on my plate kind of girl, and I tend to like to have seconds, so I'm stingy with my initial serving size. I've learned that if I log it before I eat it (or even better, log it before it ends up on my plate), I'm far more likely to make a good decision, and turn down that cookie, or at least limit myself to a very small serving. You can do this. Expect some hurdles along the way, but my advice is to take the opportunity to really learn from your struggles and mistakes, so you can develop good habits and success strategies. In my experience, this really does get harder the further out you get from surgery, but that doesn't mean you're not up to the challenge!

I am finding beans to be a good source of protien. I have made a few recipes with beans and they are delicious and easy to digest. I will pair the beans with cheese to get more protein. I am just over 10 weeks and still have protein powder for lunch(mix with yogurt and flavorings) to keep my protein intake up.

3 weeks post op and forced myself to eat
trulyamazingtoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just windering if you should force yourself to eat if you are not hungry. Today I had some sauté shrimp, 4 oz of a protein shake, 6 oz of apple juice, 4 ozs water, 4 oz tea. I know that I should have more so I a had few spoons of greek yogurt and I feel like a fat pig and need to puke. Should I force to myself to eat even if I am not hungry? -
I had to do 2 meals of clear liquids in the hospital. Apple juice, broth and jello. Then today before coming home I was switched to full liquids. Creamy soups with no chunks, apple juice or any 100% juices, yogurt...plain no lumps or fruit, malt to meal runny, protein shakes, sugar free pudding & jello. V-8 diet Splash is good stuff too, sugar free koolaid, crystal light and the suagr free popsicles. My hubby was snacking on chocolate covered pretzels...and they looked gross! I like that feeling. I hope it lasts, because it will make this process alot easier. Chocolate is my down fall.

How do you get your protein in? I am just started my 4th week post op.
efierke replied to LisaLou30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tuna/chicken salad, chili (run through a blender it's still tasty). the WW smart ones Entrees, once you're allowed them, are quite good. When I'm coming up for a recipe or looking at nutrution labels I aim for 10 calories / gram of Protein. I don't hit that with everything I eat, but with most things. Yogurt is your new friend - fat free low sugar yogurt is packed with protein. I've also taken a piece of turkey sausage (get the leaner stuff) and fried that up with a scrambled egg. kinda like a "Breakfast bowl" but actually edible
