    Utter regret

You are not alone! I regret my decision to have surgery every day, and it's been five weeks. I have noticed that I'm falling into some kinda of depression. I'm constantly angry or short-tempered with my loved ones; I'm not happy. Also, every little thing irritates me. I feel alone and don't want to be around anyone but even the dog.
  2. Hi all! I just joined this a forum a cpl of days ago and so glad I did 😊I'm due for a gastric bypass and hiatus hernia repair on the 27th of April. Im on the 3 shakes a day and 2 cups of low starch vegetables diet atm. Currently 220lbs I've managed to lose 20lbs in 4 months prior to this liquid diet, Im glad I did as I have another 77lbs to go after the surgery, hope it is all worth the wait! I'm reading a lot of good advice and great information which I didn't know before I joined and I'm really enjoying sharing with others's ideas and experiences who are in simular situation as myself. Wishing everyone best of luck 👍🙏😊❤️

    Weight loss starts when?

Interesting... I've had the complete opposite experience. Had surgery Monday. Weighed 355 in the hospital right before it (and after 3 days of liquid diet). Got out of the hospital on Wednesday. Weighed 348 on Thursday night, and then I weighed 337 this morning. Hope I'm not dehydrated.

    May 2022 surgery?

Just reading your comments, I've had to wait 5 years in the public system then covid hit! That added another 2 years on top of the 5! so eventually I gave up! I wasn't even thinking about it anymore and was just over it, till March 24th they called me asking if I would be ready for the surgery in two weeks April 7th 😳and I said NO! (That was too much of a short notice,) wasn't ready for that I needed at least a month for preparations lol I was happy to hear that they had a vacancy for the 27th of April lol so I accepted that one, I've done all my blood tests seminars and everything else I was asked to do I'm very low on iron its down to 10 where it should be 45 so im told I will be getting an iron infusion on the 14th otherwise I won't be fit enough to go in to theatre, but none the less I weighed at 109kg back in December and today I weigh at 99kg I'm really trying to lose as much as I can on my own by cutting down on carbs and sugar and resisting my usual Temptations just so I have a quicker recovery I'm on the shakes diet atm I've just done a whole lot of meal preps with lots of low starch vegetables that are on my "allowed to eat list" steamed and chopped chucked it in the deepfreeze! and loads of salad so they will be a companying my Optifast shakes before and after the surgery I realised my downfalls and mistakes were NOT doing meal preps ahead of time as I would just grab whatever was in the fridge when I was feeling peckish, I really want this to work as I've waited so long for this surgery, the only thing thats really stuck on my mind is that we have to take multivitamins for the rest of our lives 😳Other than that I'm ready for this journey and a whole new life style that will change my life for the better!👍🤞
  6. True story: I am very self conscious and have had people make rude comments. I have been walking in my home for a starting time of 5 min and now 15. My dog follows and sometimes I talk to him as I walk just to be silly. It beats the treadmill experience by a long shot. Soon I will add another lil activity like a sugar in the wall or a lil stair step. Next week I am doing my first social walk with some women in a Meet Up group.

    Weight loss starts when?

I gained 8 pounds in the hospital which took a couple of weeks for me to lose again. I was very bloated feeling as well, it all goes away.

    What's Your Food Nemesis?

Its odd because during the week I can be quite restrictive of what I eat; yet on the weekends it seems like open field day for me. So essentially I undo my weekly progress by sabotaging it on the weekends

    May 2022 surgery?

Wow that is quick! Ive been going to my weight management office since Oct 28th, 21 (my first visit). Ive had to do a series of "workshops" and bloodwork before moving into the next phase.....which was cardiac dr to release me for surgery then more bloodwork then off to do the EGD (Feb 9th). My March visit was to be turned into insurance for approval but the office dropped the ball and that didnt happen. So now my April appt I was told it would be sent (again?) for insurance approval with a tentative surgery date sometime in May is what I was told. I'm only going to wait a week or two and ask if its been sent yet because it wasnt done in March . Glad to hear yours was more flawless and quicker. In my program we must show we will not gain weight before we get approved for surgery. I have been able to stay below my start weight on my first visit but Ive not lost much either. So Im constantly a work in progress. Others lose quite a bit up till surgery and others like myself squeak by. I have mobility issues because of my knee issues.
  10. Did your doctor give you anything for acid control? Pls let the doc know tmw. In the meantime you might try small sips of water 2-3 oz an hour. It is very small sips but they add up. If it is possible cold pressed coconut water. No pulp no flavor, that might sooth a bit. Go slow, carry on, communicate with your doc. Be Well
  11. Hi, I had a revision of a Roun Y on Tue with a hernia repair. The hernia has not slowed my healing a bit. Surgery was Tuesday with an overnight stay. I’m doing light chores, driving and shopping today. My doc keeps us on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and protein drinks. I tried broth, it was ok. But just paid a bit more for Bone Broth… wow! A new favorite! Flavors are wonderful and still on plan. There is never really a great time to take off work for surgery. But you will know the best time for yourself and your family.
  12. I'd let you clinic know. A lot of surgeons put their patients on PPIs, like omeprazole, for 3-6 months after surgery. It tends to be stronger than things like Mylanta or Pepcid.
  13. Liquids are handled very differently than solid food. Believe me, when you start adding solids in, the restriction will become very apparent. Honestly, after the first week or so, I didn't notice any problem taking in liquid amounts (initially I had some funny stomach pain along the place my stomach was cut out or so I think). I wouldn't worry.

    May 2022 surgery?

I never got to have a long time before my approval. I started the process on Feb 28th, everything was submitted to my insurance company on March 30th and my insurance company faxed my approval letter to my surgeon on April 1st. And the same day they called me and set my surgery for May 3rd. I was kind of eating what I wanted but now I have to start watching what I eat and changing my habits because a week before my surgery I have to do the all liquid diet. So I want to try and drop a few pounds before the liquid diet, which I know will cause me to lose a few pounds, as well. My doctor didn't give me a specific amount of weight to lose. He just said "try to lose whatever you can before surgery, to make your recovery easier" so, that's what I'm going to do....starting tomorrow (Monday).

Good plan on not weighing yourself - and I'm the same. The unpredictability of the scales is too high, in my opinion. You might have a stall in your numbers over two weeks, but you could go down half a dress size over the same time period. Our bodies and physiology is complex and there are so many contributing factors to the numbers that flash up on the screen. For that reason, I only measure my weight loss by how my clothes fit and feel. It's been great chatting to you tonight! I hope your follow up appointment goes well tomorrow. Mine is 7 weeks away! 😮 Not sure if I should be worried or reassured by that! Ha! xxx

    May 2022 surgery?

I’m not a doctor but if you are 5 weeks before the surgery, just have your tortilla because after the surgery you won’t be able to eat much, also your taste buds will change.

Oh yes, I haven't had any constipation with all these liquids [emoji28] I think my plan is the same as yours. Liquids for another week then the day after Easter (4/18) I can start pureed and soft foods. I'm looking forward to some scrambled eggs lol. I honestly haven't weighed myself since the morning of surgery. I'm prone to becoming obsessive with the scale and the numbers so i'm trying to wait until I go to my follow up appointment tomorrow. That is so reassuring to hear... 😅 I guess (or hope!) it will change when we start on solid food, because it won't "go through" us like liquid does? When will you start on puree and soft foods? I'll start puree in a week and then soft foods a week after that. Have you lost much weight in the last week? I was away from my little brood for a week, as I recovered in peace and quiet at my brother's home. When my eldest boy saw me yesterday, he said "Wow, mum! You look so different!" 😍

This!!! I have been exactly the same, wondering if i'm taking in too much. Today i've had 36 ounces of water, 2 protein shakes (11 ounces each), 8 ounces of flavored water, and 3 ounces of soup. And it's only 3 p.m. here. They said aim for at least 64 ounces of water each day. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app

    May 2022 surgery?

Thank you! I’m sorry - I’m 5 weeks before surgery and wondering if I can have low carb tortillas and bread…completely agree it’ll be a no-go after. 👍

    May 2022 surgery?

I guess each doctor is different, I’m on my week 4 and I’m not allow to eat tortillas. Only crackers. I do eat Protein ( chicken, turkey, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) all veggies overcook so it can be easier to chew. I seen many people eating beef and pork. With my Doctor I’m not allow to eat beef and pork in 6 months after the surgery. I did bought whole grain tortillas but I’m not going to eat them. I hear the first 3 months are the months you will lose the most weight so I want to take advantage of that and make my surgery and money worth every sacrifice.

I bruised a little but only had to do it for 5 days. You can try (1) icing the area just before injecting (2) insert the needle slowly vs fast jab, and/or (3) make sure to try to insert the needle perpendicular to the skin surface (i.e., straight down instead of at an angle) Good Luck! ❤️
  23. Sorry, I already posted this in two wrong parts of the forum! Hopefully I'm in the right place here. I had my surgery on Monday 4th April in Manchester, UK. The first 2 days were awful (lots of pain, nausea and vomiting) The 3rd and 4th days were better (threw up for the last time, had some lovely hot showers, pain manageable) The 5th and 6th days have been amazing! (out to cafes and shops, no nausea or pain, even drove for an hour) I am experiencing a brilliant recovery, I think. BUT... I'm worried - only that I can take in much more liquid than I expected. I have just eaten a whole can of strained roast chicken soup with no problem at all. It's far more than the few tablespoons that I hear about other people struggling to get down. I don't feel any restriction or signals that I've had enough. Is it still considered "normal"? 😮 Example: today I've had 2 pints of skimmed milk, a pint of water, 3 cups of milky tea and 2 tins of cream of chicken soup. None of it was a problem! Thanks in advance of your wisdom and advice xxx

  25. I had the ESG with Dr. McGowan in Cary, NC Oct 14, 2021. VERY happy with him, all his staff and everyone at the Wake Med hospital. FIRST CLASS all the way! That being said. Day of surgery my weight was 253. This coming week is my 6 month anniv and I have lost down to 227. Yes it is great! but I was so hoping for more after 6 months. I reassure myself that my skin will adapt better by losing slower, I haven't had any hair loss, etc. But I am 54 and ready to live my life! This baggage is in my way and keeping me from living my life the way I want to. A few months ago, the nurse put me on Topomax to help with cravings (as my insurance will not pay for Wegovey or other "weight loss" meds- I was a self pay for the surgery). Several months after the surgery I asked the question . . does the Dr. make everyones' stomach in surgery the same resulting 20% size?? or is everyone's different because ... Patient A's stomach could hold 5 lbs of food, and patient B could only hold 1 lb of food. So did they both end up with same size stomach pouch? The answer is no. He gives you stomach pouch that is 20% of YOUR stomach size. So that is why some people can hold more than others. Makes sense. Kind wish I had thought about it pre surgery though! I'd asked for an extra small one! LOL I don't feel a lot of restriction anymore. So I am wondering where do I go from here? Should I ask for a different medication or increased dose of topomax? Does Dr. McGowan have a way to do a scan or ultrasound and see if your sutures have come loose or if your pouch has stretched out? Do they have a way to do a revision and put in tighter sutures or make a smaller pouch? and if they do . . is it the same cost as the original surgery? I know I am under their care program for a year that includes nutrition counseling, etc. Is there a cost to continue that after a year? Anyone who knows answers, please let me know. I want to be able to think about things before my zoom call later this week.
