Its been said over and over again....you have to eat in order to loose weight. Journal your calories/carbs/fats/protiens and find out the trends where you loose the most. I was on Atkins many years ago to drop (and kept off) 85lbs, I found that my body type dropped the most eating 60% protien/ 35%fat and 5% carbs.....over the last 2 yrs though, I noticed I can loose when I eat about 50% protien 40% carb. I just don't like the way the carbs make me feel. Good luck, and tweak your eating periodically to shake things up and see where your specific body type looses the best.

Want To See How Much Loose Skin You Have? Get In The Pool!

Cataracks if I'm heard that if our excess skin is causing us pain or rashes that our insurance might cover that procedure. This might be something that could help with a panni. -
Want To See How Much Loose Skin You Have? Get In The Pool!
Catracks posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My upper abdomen looks okay. Okay enough to actually wear a bikini top, albeit with board shorts. Anyway, I got in the pool and poked the right side of my stomach. There was this slow motion ripple from one side to the other like slapping a bowl of Jello. It was so weird that the kids kept asking me to "Do it again!!!" Then there is the lower abdomen. I tried jump up and down. As I went up, it went down. As I went down .... well, you get the picture. I look a lot better, but there are some issues to be addressed and I'm not even done loosing weight. Anybody once opposed to plastics and then reconsidered? -
Should I ask the doc for Metformin/Glucophage?
bookaddict replied to AppleSmith1226's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I could have written the exact same thing as above! Although my hair growth is more than minimal...but I have taken Met for abt. 2 years and if anything, my PCOS has gotten much worse. More and more hair, more skin tags, more weight, hair is beginning to thin on head, still not ovulating. With that being said, you should try it because it works great for some PCOS'ers. Good luck! -
Do You Have Hungry Days?
astory2u replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me those are usually the days I loose the must weight. -
Hi Diann, well i am 9+ months out and just got done doing a 3 1/2 MONTH stall. . . what do you think of that one! At least your not gaining, think of that as a blessing. . . your body needs to catch up with your brain. . . on the carbs side that could be a factor, I only get in 15 - 25 carbs a day. . . yup i follow Adkins diet. . . yup i diet. . . with the sleeve. . . its just a tool anyhow, its not going to make you loose your weight without you helping out. . . like a hammer, it's not going to get up and start banging on the nail without your guidance. . . so check out how many carbs your getting could be way to many making you stall out. . . good luck!

Are you exercising? Most of us won't loose without it.

So question for the women, I had gastric bypass on Aug 22 of this year. I am getting married October 12, 2013. I have lost a total of 76lbs so far but obviously plan on loosing a lot more. My dilemma is, when should I start shopping for a wedding dress? I'm afraid If I start trying them on now, I will loose too much weight to still fit in it. I also don't want to wait too long with not enough time to come in and for alterations. Plus I have have no clue if ill still be considered plus size or not and that plays a big role in the styles of dresses. Help!! :/

Its hard to believe that 365 days ago I flew to San Diego and then went to Mexico to be sleeved by Dr Ramos Kelly. Oh my; a lot has changed in the past year... This was me as I left my husband in Minnesota and took off for Mx: Size 16, 239.8 pounds. Not very happy actually pretty depressed and scared to death about the adventure I was about to undertake! My initial goal was to reach 155 pounds which I was able to do in less than 10 months - November 1st, 2011: 155 pounds My journey was not all that hard - actually it was pretty easy - I am a focused person and I stayed focused on Proteins first, low carbs and exersize - working out with a trainer 2-3 days a week. Tomorrow is my one year anniversary of one of the best decisions I have ever made! I am currently 144.4 pounds (Have been this weight for about 3 weeks now - up or down only a few ounces). I am wearing a size 6 or some 4's. Here is a couple of pictures taken this week: And one last one in my new size 27 Miss Me jeans! My only regret is not doing this sooner and not taking more pictures of my journey! I am in a good place right now - do not want to lose any more weight - trying to maintain where I am currently or within 5 pounds. I am healthier than I have been in 15+ years. I have energy and finally like the person I see in the mirror. I am pretty tall so lose skin is not so bad - I cannot complain - no rolls or hanging skin, no bat wings. OH and not BOOB - could wear a training bra again I think (may address that later this year!) This journey was so worth it - I would do it again in a heartbeat. I would recommend my surgeon to anyone - the entire experience was truly a blessing. Thank you to all those who went before me and provided me with their insight and advice! Your support has made the journey so much easier and enjoyable. If anyone is considering VSG or just starting your journey - stay focused - stay the course! You can do this! I will be 50 years old this year and really feel under 40! Have a health and happy new year everyone! Kim

Want To See How Much Loose Skin You Have? Get In The Pool!
soggycereal replied to Catracks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might consider India. Supposed to be better hospitals and doctors than us, and u will go to a deluxe recuperation facility by the beach for a fraction of our prices. For me, plastics will not be optional,. I live in Texas, where it fets over 100 in the summer. If I dont have it done, Im looking at lifelong skin infections and breakdown. -
Want To See How Much Loose Skin You Have? Get In The Pool!

I have and would be opposed to plastics to do small vanity things. The risk vs. return is not worth it. Having said that, I should mention I was once in a situation that required extensive reconstruction to my face, over a long period of time. I cannot complain it was never like you see it sometimes - it wasn't burnes or cancer but alot of cracked bones, the part of the jaw that held my teeth suffered extensive fracturing in several areas - I fought a losing battel for a decade to keep several teeth. A prt of my cheek bone is a prosthesis. People say you can't tell, but I can - I "see" it still. With that said, let me explain. Extensive reconstruction, even when it is correcting things that go beyond cosmetic, beyond "vanity"...you MUST, or really should, face this with as much effort as you put into the weight loss surgery. You are going to need it. It is an emotional event, and the results are profound. If it was like my experience, you are going to have to deal with alot, and depending on how ready you are, it will be hard. But the lose skin and maintenance I already experience, is an indication to me that I will indeed have to make myself ready for thar once again. It is scary, aside from the extensive modification of my body, I have concerns of remembering things that I have been able to push to the periphrial part of my memory...things I really don't want to visit again. -
When will things taste good again :(
Creekimp13 replied to xoto2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
^This. I used to love Egg McMuffins and Chili Cheese dogs. Both taste different to me now. Dozens of old favorites don't taste the same, don't satisfy, taste flat and crappy. Try new things. I've found new favorites. I used to hate fish. I love fish now. I used to feel meh about melons. Melon is my comfort food now. I don't think I like any treat as much as a chilled seedless watermellon stick. Used to love cheese and eggs. I like them ok now. Somtimes. Ish. Depending. LOL. I hated beans. Love them now. Black beans, chickpeas, white beans...green beans, soybeans, etc. Hated potato skin. Love it now. You'll find things you like. Some things become less repulsive with time. But for a lot of things, you might feel a little sad because they won't ever be the same. -
My post-op sheet says dry skin is a sign you may not be getting enough protein and fluids. The acne probably is from the hormone release. Good Luck!!
-
I have really dry skin, I wondered if it's because of the post-op diet and esp. the lower amounts of fats I'm eating right now.
-
Watch your water intakes. 64oz as a daily *minimum* for proper function. Dry body = dry skin. It can also impact acne (as can everything under the sun)
-
I was only banded August 24, 2006 and I have not experienced the dry skin yet, but I woke up with my first pimple today. I do drink at least 5 - 6 glasses of water a day. Just try pushing plenty of water everyday, and see if you notice a difference. Good luck.

This terrifies me more than loose skin. I've been trying to grow my hair out, but apparently that won't be happening. what exactly about the surgery/weightloss causes the hair loss ?

2nd fill today- kinda bummed and confused
missgypsy replied to samomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing GREAT!!!!! Really if you count it up you've been banded what 7 wks now? and already have 2 fills? Most ppl don't even get a fill until 6 wks or so. you can't go off of what everyone has lost or what they have in there band- we are all different. i'm almost 6 months out and i only have 4.5 ccs in my band, have lost 46-47 lbs and 36 inches. so some had that a few months out. what works for one may not work for another. 32 lbs is awesome and as far as the 16 lbs of muscle you need to remember your body is still healing. the swelling it still going down. at some point when we heal our body goes into this stand still mode. it's going hey what are you doing to me? and it just stops doing everything all together. so what you are doing it the correct thing. just keep up doing what you are doing!! don't always count on that mean nasty scale- it's evil lol. do you measure? i bet if you started to do that and log it you'd see where you are loosing. inches are just as important as lbs. so really don't beat yourself up. You are really doing an awesome job! and as far as the meds if you start feeling as if your blood pressure meds are to much call your dr again. if you have to get a blood pressure cuff or go to walmart or somewhere and take it at different times of the day and write it down. that way you can show them whats going on. they aren't going to know unless you speak up. they think everything is A-ok. and also you must remember some meds you can't go off of immediatly they must be tapered off. so just give it some time and listen to your body. if you feel like something isn't right then call them. Good luck -
hi girls. .and guys. i was wondering... has anyone has issues with the dressings that were used on the surgery incisions? i know that some of you have mentioned that you were able to shower with the dressings on... so that means they are very much like what ive got on. the trouble is, im four days out, some of the dressings are still very firm but im developing a bad skin reaction to the sticky outside of the dressing. i have one bubble which is nearly the size of a sixpence. its filled with fluid and giving me hell. has anyone else had this?? if you did, what did you do about it?? i would like to just take all the dressings off. i dont want any more huge watery blisters.

I have to wear spanx (or the knock off brand) when I am running other wise the excess flapping skin causes terrible pain around my port and my back. Though just having the shorts would be a lot more comfy and less HOT! Thanks for the info
-
I can also always feel my port. The more weight I lose, the more prominent it is under my skin. Sit ups were painful for me up until 5 months post op. i think I'm weird. LOL. My doctor has given me the "ok" now but I proceed with caution. She said occasional port soreness is normal, especially after ab work outs so you may need to ice the area afterwards. Take it very slow and if it starts to hurt, stop and listen to your body.

Loosing Weight But Getting Some Skin
Cazzy replied to Mzjamison79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the other thing to do is to photograph the rashes every time they are angry and inflamed .. u also need to visit the doctor everytime this happens too this may provide u with enough evidence to get the insurance to pay for the skin removal at some point as a medical proceedure. I have just undergone an 11 hour operation to remove excess skin, this is a big operation. I used to pad out the sore bits on my tummy so that the skin would never touch each other, this helped a lot in prevention and making sure u dont use too perfumed washing powder or fabric softner on anything that will be touching your skin. good luck ..
