Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
LadyH replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt just like you a month ago!!! Now, for some reason, I'm trusting my (invisible) surgeon will be apt, prepared, astute, and experienced, and will do wonders for me. I've fully realized the why's for my going forward with this despite the risks, and those why's are all very important. All the naysayers in my life and no good--maybe you have some of those people, too. I encourage you to write down your fears/worries, the ongoing never ending problems that led you to this surgical decision, and how your life can be forever altered for the better --meaning a better you, not just a thinner you! It's a major surgery, a total lifestyle change, and a banishment from food addiction. You can finally be the real you! I will be thinking about you on the 6th. That's the day I go in for my pre-surg anesthesia eval. Please keep me posted on how you're doing, and feel free to message me if you're feeling worried/scared, or just want to chat. I start my all liquid 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm actually excited! -
16 days until surgery and I have covid

So finally got a call back from doctors office. They are saying at least 4-6 weeks after covid. I had the antibody infusion today. Anyone else with experience of how long to wait after? Makes me kinda nervous -
Anyone for October 2020?
dal101 replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ah, its nice to see ppl checking back on this thread. Its been over a year and I ve had my ups and downs like everyone. Had started a new job and the stress caused me to eat badly for 3 weeks. But I went back to my food plan after. Every time I messed up I always went back to the plan. I wish I could do more for my diet and exercise , develop good life long eating habits.... I havent reached my goal weight yet and weight loss is real slow now. Hopefully by the start of 2022 I'll have implemented some changes to kick start the weight loss again. Take care everyone. -
This surgery is bullshit...
BayougirlMrsS replied to goodmanje's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree. When i lost my band and went 2.5 years without wls I thought I could just do it without help. I was wrong. I started gaining and before i knew it I had put back 30lbs. In my mind (overweight brain) I wasn't "eating that bad" but when I started going back to logging my food, I was clearly eating badly. I was at 1000 cal before lunch. This is why logging is so important. I know I didn't realize how much I was actually eating. If the OP would just try logging everything and being honest 100% for one week he/she would see. But honestly he/she seem like they don't want to put in any work to make the SX successful. -
May Surgeries - check in!
SummerTimeGirl replied to ChunkyCali's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You all are doing great!!! Congrats!! I'm still at my same 69 lb lost since surgery/87 lb since March. Haven't lost a thing since Oct 25th and no idea why. Total inches lost last month (Oct thru Nov) was only 1.75 too when previous months had been close to 10 inches or more. I usually measure on the 7th of each month but checked a few measurements last night and it looks like there won't be much loss this past month either. Don't know what's going on. Never had a stall last more than a few weeks. I tried shaking things up by eating things off plan/lil more calories/lil less too. NONE of it worked. -
I have my final psych appt in 2 weeks. After, I’ll be set to have a first meeting with my surgeon. I did some research on her and she’s relatively new - she’s been practicing for 6 years. Another thing, she has very few ratings. Two of three of them are poor, one was excellent, and they were all from this year. Bad reviews spoke of complications, her bedside manner is awful, the positive spoke highly of her patience and listening. The funny thing? She was a lead researcher in how patient ratings predict outcomes. So I’m nervous now. One of her colleagues has about 50 reviews that are largely positive and she was what originally drew me to that clinic, an hour away. She’s also had bariatric surgery herself. Prior to meeting the surgeon and submitting to insurance would be the best time to make a switch. I originally got this surgeon bc I had a recent endoscopy and that’s all this surgeon required and the other surgeons required more. I feel like I should give her a chance but that review about having complications bc she was careless has me frazzled. I know any surgery can have them but my mom and I are already nervous enough.

If you don’t want to log your food everyday perhaps you could do it for a few weeks and then just check in every once In a while to make sure you are on track. I know that I only cook so many meals and I have it in my head how many calories it is for one slice of cauliflower crust pizza or one burrito or whatever. I have a shake for breakfast and a P3 protein pack for lunch most days so I know how many calories I am allowed for dinner and have figured out what I can have that is on plan so I don’t have to count calories every day. I also have snacks that are around 100 calories (some are 80 some 120 but it averages out) so I just have to keep track of how many I have in a day not the actual calories. Maybe something like this would work for you. I hate to see you wasting time just being disappointed and depressed because your hunger will come back eventually and it will no longer be as easy to make the good food choices.I know that you are only eating low calorie food but you can still overeat even if it’s the right things. But you don’t necessarily have to count calories daily, Just figure out how many calories you are allowed for each meal and snack and then the first time you have the meal you have to measure and calorie count but from then on you know whether it’s on plan or not and you can either have it or you can’t unless you skip a snack or whatever. Just try a version of this that works for you.

How Long is Fatigue & Weakness After Surgery?
Arual85 replied to LadyH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fatigue lasted about 5 weeks. I was off work for 3 and the first 2 weeks back I was absolutely exhausted when I got home- and I sit at a desk all day! -
I did a pre-pre-op diet for 4 days. Cut out caffeine, drank protein shakes and had sf jello. Moving to the real pre-op diet was easy. Had my surgery 4 days ago!!!!. For 2 weeks post op it will be all liquids. It was helpful to me. Good luck! Sent from my moto g power using BariatricPal mobile app

I’ve been having this exact pain too, sometimes is more on the right side but by my shoulders. That’s a good thought that’s it’s been from sitting more. I’m almost 2 weeks out.
-
I’m also having back pain, but it’s my upper back, between my shoulders. I think mine is from sitting around too much since it’s been cold and windy outside. I’m 3 weeks out today. The weather is pretty good today, so I’ve been able to take some walks. Im hoping it will help with this pain.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Splenda replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In February, I bought a nice water-resistant jacket on Amazon. When I bought it, it was TIGHT on me. I could zip it and wear it, but I had no room to move in my shoulders/upper back. When the cold weather hit us last week, I went to put it on and I looked like a teenager trying to wear his dad's jacket. I was drowning in it -- I knew I had lost weight, but that was one of the first times where it really hit me how much smaller I had gotten. -
So, I'm a little more than two weeks out from surgery. Seems like every evening I deal with some back pain. It's more middle of the back... possibly near my kidneys. It's an annoying ache. I thought it might be from not getting enough water or from the fact that I have started to add some pureed items to the diet choices, but I can't figure it out. Anyone else?

I hit my stall ALREADY 🤷🏽♀️ been at 300 for almost a week. I’m not worried about it though, because I know that my body is healing. I’m not in a rush, I loss 30 pounds since surgery which was 3 weeks ago. I’m just going with the flow and staying positive. 😁
-
It's very common. Give your body a chance to "catch up" with its new reality and the weight loss will start again. Hang in there, I know it can be frustrating!
-
Same with me. Lost 38 lbs from the week I started clear liquids prior to surgery. Did not lose an ounce for the last 10 days, woke up this morning and decreased 2 lbs. I think it is normal. Dont panic. Your body is in shock and trying to figure out how to readjust.

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
LadyH replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is all so interesting. I start a 2 weeks protein shake/clear fluids only diet tomorrow. I don't have fatty liver. I have 80-100# to lose. I'd be interested to hear other peoples' stats just because it'd be nice to find some pattern or reasoning for all the differences in everyone's diets. -
I’m less than a week from my SADI and I get stomach spasms when I have certain things. Water and broth is fine, liquid Tylenol and jello though both trigger it. It only lasts maybe 5-10 seconds then subsides. I just assumed that I’m still healing and that it will go away.

This surgery is bullshit...
sunshineangela replied to goodmanje's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the surgery gastric sleeve a few months ago. My weight has stalled at 45-50 lbs lost. I understand your frustration. I have a issue getting all the protein. When I do consistently get all the protein 60grams a day thats when I start losing. Maybe that can help you too. I don’t lose weight when I am not getting the protein. -
Alcohol For The Holidays
BigSue replied to TeeNeg12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. It's surreal sometimes to realize that I have lost over 200 pounds. Two hundred pounds! And yet I still feel like the same old Big Sue a lot of the time. TBH, I've been struggling a lot in many aspects of my life, so I'm not in a great place to be offering encouraging words to other WLS patients right now. I do still look at new posts, though, and I have to admire you for sticking around after all these years to educate newbies on things like the three week stall. -
July 2021 Surgery People!
eholmes89 replied to Sammys_VSG_Evolution's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey July buddies! how are we all. So Im coming to the realisation that my body is starting to plateau! For the first time. Yes I’ve been very lucky I’ve lost weight every week since surgery, sometimes 1lb, sometimes 5lb. however the last 3 weeks I’ve been sitting between 149-147lbs. It goes up and down. Sometimes daily! i started at 210. So I’m really happy with what Ive achieved!l so far! However I kinda wanted to be around the 138 mark as a overall target. my BMI is now in the green for ‘normal’ does this mean I’ve hit my end goal? Is my body telling me that’s it now? i mean I can’t complain I’ve gone from a UK18-20 to a UK8-10! but I’m still a little disappointed. either that or I need to just bide my time and wait. I’m hitting about 1200 calories on a good day - 600 on restricted days. But have notice the last few weeks I can eat a little more per portion. perhaps I need to exercise more.. if im honest I don’t do much… im not good at exercise 🤦🏻♀️ just leaving this here as I complain to my family and friends and they think I’m being weird and just thought you guys would understand where I’m coming from. xxx -
Has anyone experienced any stomach contractions/spasms after their surgery? I’m 3 weeks post op DS and experiencing some spasms.

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
AIM replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery date is Dec 3rd. It's soooo close. Liquid diet for 2 weeks. Not loving it. I'm having the sleeve + single switch + hiatal hernia repair. EEEEEK. I should be an old hand at surgery these days. A loooooong time ago - I lost 380lbs w/diet and exercise. I was staying steady at 140-150lbs. So I had a tummy tuck & arm flap removal (Brachioplasty). Then I started yo-yo'ing and then I lost my Mom to covid last December. I've gained soooo much since then. My Mom was in the hospital - just days before we lost her - submitting my info to Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas for gastric sleeve. She wanted me to do this because she knew I was happier and healthier when I was thin. So here I am. Because she was right. I've also had my gallbladder removed, my right hip was replaced 4 years ago. My left hip was replaced 2 years ago. So I shouldn't be worried about this. But, eeeeeek. I'm not a fan of needles, etc. I just hope I can be discharged from the hospital in one day. Also, I'm in Raleigh, NC. -
I’m sorry you feel this was the worst decision for you & you’re angry. And it doesn’t work for absolutely everyone - sometimes for genetic or physiological reasons, sometimes for psychological reasons. But if you can honestly look in the mirror & say yes I’m making changes to what I eat, I’m choosing low fat, low sugar & low carb foods, I’m eating differently to how I ate before, I’m eating smaller portions, I’m following my surgeon’s plan & my dietician’s recommendations, maybe you are one of the unlucky few for which surgery doesn’t work. The average weight loss after bariatric surgery at about the 5yr point is around 65% of the weight you had to lose to put you in the healthy bmi range. Some lose more. Some lose less. Complacency, lifestyle, health issues, age, gender, genetics, personal choice, etc. all play a part in how much you will lose & then the weight at which you happily maintain. So odds are you won’t lose & keep off all the weight you need (or want) to lose in the long term but odds are you will weigh less than you do when you started. If you buy a gym membership & never go, you won’t get any healthier, or stronger or fitter. Weight loss surgery is the same. If you don’t take advantage of the tool nothing changes. The amount of success you have is directly in proportion to the amount of effort you put in to making the long term changes. Like most (all) of us I’ve lost & regained hundreds of pounds over the years. Tried every diet, & exercise program. This time, I took advantage of the benefits the surgery afforded me in the beginning. I used the tool. I did a lot of research & changed how & what I ate. Put new habits into place. Came to understand why I was eating & worked out how I could manage those drives. I did & continue to do the work. If I didn’t consciously make those changes & continue to work at it every day, I’d be very near my highest weight again. That’s what always happened in the past: I dieted, lost weight, then would return to my old eating habits & food choices & would start to regain within days. I ate little to begin after my surgery: less than 300 calories. I was healing (all those sutures & staples holding my tummy together) plus no appetite & no real interest in food. But my calories increased as did my portion sizes over the weeks & months. I eat about 1300 calories to maintain but I’m shorter than you, likely older than you, not very active, female & have a small frame. But before surgery I could barely maintain my obese weight eating 1300 or fewer calories a day & I regularly skipped meals for decades. My metabolism was shot. I eat regularly now, eat more nutritionally dense food & eat more often then I’ve ever done before. I haven’t been this weight since I was 12 yrs old. I feel great.
