How Soon After Sleeve Can Ya Resume High Impact Cardio?
Star1221 replied to healinghands50's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Treadmill, elliptical and, bike I was cleared in the first week. Stuff like weights, jogging, zumba, or any kind of p90x type crap was after 6 weeks. But I am sure your dr is different than mine. I would call and ask Monday to see what he says. -
Hi Kat, I would go to your Dr and request another fill for the first one did not do anything and you have been stuck for three months. Your Dr should give you another fill! Its been 6 mos after all. Even if he acts the same as he did the first time, who cares if he gives you a fill. Yours the one that is paying for his services. This is your band. You don't have to tell him all, just tell him for the most part, you were doing what a bandster is needed to do. You might of gone off of the plan, but you drank your water and exercised. The main thing is to get your 2nd fill! Good luck! Ladydi

At seven weeks, I was well into my prescribed solid foods. I could have eaten a whole lobster - no problem. You'll be fine. Your bidggest problem will be being a sensible eater and not loading up on butter, cream sauces, and all those other yummy high-calorie treats that will be whispering to you. Fill up on lean protien first and stay strong. Also, stay hydrated between meals, it will cut your urge to snack.

I wouldn't say I was freaking out, but definitely extremely nervous. Everyone at my surgeon's office was like, "Are you so excited?" I was like thinking, no, not really...I was focused on the procedure itself and the recovery- not the most fun or exciting thing. Two weeks later I am happy I went through with it. Good luck- you will do great, it's a very safe surgery! -Kendra 15 lbs lost since surgery 12/17

Two Weeks Out And Feeling Really Full
AllForMy4 replied to Dania621's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I will be 2 weeks out on Wednesday and I can barely take a couple very small bites of Greek yogurt without feeling SOO VERY FULL! I measured out an ounce and I could only eat half. :/ I can't even get my required liquids and protein in. I am getting in almost 30 ounces of liquids and 1 protein shake. The upside is I have lost 13 lbs in 11 days. =) -
It took me a couple of weeks to get past being tired all the time. I have seen other comments saying the same thing & I believe it's very common. I also was put on full liquids when I came home from the hospital & I wasn't very hungry either. Now I can eat pretty much anything I want (but I don't) & I get a very uncomfortable feeling when I get full. In my case the feeling is across the top of my stomach & I have learned not to ignore this feeling. If I eat to much I feel like crap for an hour or two. Good luck with your journey & welcome to the group.

Yayyy 1 week down, feeling lighter and great already. Still on the liquid diet but starting to have tummy cramps here and there. I am not even drinking when the cramps occur, wondering if it's just excess gas or if I should be concerned since the pain is not to bad. Any advice??

First, congratulations on such a huge step. You are in your way to better health. In terms of what is normal, everyone differs but here's my experience. I was dog tired the first 2 weeks (sleeved 7/14/14) and didn't get energy until week 3. Part if it was due to caffeine withdraw. I used to down coffee in the am and Dt. Pepsis all darn day. Add to the fact that I just had major surgery--sleeve and hernia repair at once--and I was straining just to stand for 1 minute! I am back to drinking coffee but it is a mixture of 80% decaf and 20% dark roast caffeinated. I have banned Dt. Pepsi and soda as well as any other drink with caffeine. Also, your calorie intake is very low due to restrictions in diet so its only natural to be tired. Follow the eating plan they gave you but I say stop when you feel satisfied. I made the mistake of going a little overboard and regretted it the rest of the night. I threw up and had a serious stomachache. Be sure to stay hydrated because you won't find yourself wanting to eat but definitely be mindful about when you feel satisfied. I am 1.5 mos out and still can't finish an entire shake. I can get down about 1/2 to 3/4 cups of soft foods in a meal then I have to stop. Soup of about a cup. Good luck to you! I am sure you'll do well. Remember: protein, vitamins (if prescribed), water, water, water, and get up and move even if its only 5 minutes at a time. It gets easier. I still get tired by about 3 pm but I try to power through. Going to start incorporating light strength training into my regiment. That will help with energy.

1. A fill applies pressure around the stoma (hole) and makes it smaller and applies pressure to the nerves around the stomach which can sometimes include a specific nerve that can dim your hunger. 2. What are you eating? You say you don't feel satisfied, but do you feel not hungry when done eating? Satisfied is irrelevant honestly, you eat for nourishment and to quell hunger. For the pain in your chest, sounds like gall bladder pain, ask your Dr. for an ultrasound of your gallbladder (explain that you sometimes have pains for nearly an hour 30-60 minutes after a meal and that they are in the middle of your chest). Also - write down everything you eat and measure your food. You should be eating 1-2 cups of food per meal. 3. Every two weeks is too fast, a fill can be delayed by up to four weeks. You don't have to go in every two weeks, just tell him you feel more comfortable waiting through a whole month because women's bodies go through different changes throughout the month and you know your body (he won't argue). And keep your fills small - some people talk about 5 cc fills at once, that would have had me in the ER - it sounds like your fill, while small to some, was good start - like mine was. I was at my sweet spot with a single 1.5 cc fill. Who knew? I didn't, and I went in for another four weeks later for another 1.0 cc because everyone else on here (almost) needed more and I was too full for two months (while billing issues were worked out) and it was hell. I've had that 1 cc removed, and since had my gall bladder removed (last week - my experience is on the board with all the details) and my Dr left my fill in because I'm in the green zone. FILLS My first fill (dates in my signature) was easy, over in a few minutes, done under fluoroscopy. Provided great restriction (reduction of how much I could eat and what I could eat) and appetite suppression. My second fill (dates in signature) was easy as well and also done under fluorscopy, but I did doubt if I needed it and I should have listened to myself but I didn't. It went well, but I could tell the next day I was too full but wanted to give it a bit to see how it settled (some days I could eat some I couldn't - then I started vomiting regularly). Right now I'm about 0.10 - 0.25 cc from perfect. Only because I get hungry around 3 hours after a proper meal and I'd prefer that be 4-5 hours. Take it at your speed - there's no rush.

I had my pre-op appt yesterday and they stressed to me NOT to weigh every day. They said once a week, same time, same day. However, we all know how hard that is because we want to see if we are making progress. Congrats to you and keep the good work. I'm sure I will be stepping on the scale more often than I am suppose to in the beginning to.

I can't believe I only have 43 pounds left to get to my goal of 180. 43!!!!!! I know it seems like a lot to some, but after losing almost 70, forty-three seems like nothing! A walk in the park! I expect my weight loss to slow as I get closer to goal. I'm hoping it doesn't slow until I'm at least under 200. My BMI has gone down 10 points. This is too amazing. That time of the month is the only time my weight loss slows. It sucks, but I know it will continue after about a week or a week and a half. It just fun to see the scale consistently going down. I'll update at 7 months out!

Seppi, get out and walk, walking is the best cure for the gas. If the protein drink is causing you gas, buy a protein drink with no whey or soy, but honestly tell your friend that many bandsters have gas pains for 2-3 weeks after surgery, it has nothing to do with the protein drinks. I was not allowed protein drinks for 10 days after my surgery, and I had gas. You are only 3 days post op, totally normal Seppi to have painful gas pains, again walking is thebest cure, maybe a little gas x too hang tough, it gets better

OK, my in-laws live with us. Supposidly they started dieting with me the 1st of the year. In the last week they have come home with cinnamon hearts, makings for ice cream sundaes, cinnamon struesel bread (that they toasted), made homemade bread, made pancakes, among other items. They will be challenge. Mom does the grocery shopping and the cooking. Very difficult to be self-controlled with all this crap in the house. :w00t:

I was working out for an hour 5 days a week. I was also cutting carbs. i'm not much of a meat eater so atkins all the way is impossible for me. however, if atkins is correct, it's no wonder i weigh so much. i mainly eat pasta's. as a kid i ate more hamburger and cheese. i always ate like a horse. i used to walk and bike everywhere. however, now i'm older and way less active. that accounts for about 150 to 200lbs since high school. i like to be active, unfortunately, the weight has gotten to me. I don't know how i really got so big, but i just can't seem to get back. I miss walking and riding a bike. I would like to be able to garden more. if i'm up on my feet, my feet, kneese, ankle's cause a lot of pain. i see the neurologist tomorrow about my neck. if I can, I'm going to start working out in the mornings again. that's why i want the lap band. i'm not trying to impress anyone in a swimsuit, i just want my life back.

Hi Jeff, I've been researching Dr Rohrscheib for about a week now, and I haven't found anything negative so far. I haven't actually met him myself, but his receptionist was very informative and friendly. She didn't rush me through my questions, and sent me an info packet very quickly. My husband's insurer is BC/BS of IL. and his particular plan doesn't pay for the lap-band. We just changed to bcbs a couple of months ago, prior to we had health alliance, and they didn't cover lapbands in my plan at work, or his. They can tell you over the phone if you call the 800 number on your ins card. The cpt code rohrscheibs office gave me to check for ins coverage for the lapband is 43659. Congrats on the 50# loss so far, That must feel pretty good! Good luck, and best wishes for insurance coverage

Hbo Weight Of The Nation
lauralou779 replied to Maybe180's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First off the HBO documentary is wonderful. It really is enlightening and quite sad to see what the future might hold for the children. I have watched it several times just to keep the motivation. It has just motivated me more for the surgery. After talking to several people who have had the surgery some more successful than others - they all say that they would do it again and that you have to change your habits and your mind set. This is NOT a cure, but a tool to help. I love the power steering reference - perfect. I am having surgery on the 15th and my mind has been going 90 to nothing for weeks now. -
Is anyone else starting their 2 week pre-op diet today for September 23 surgery?

yes, that "PBing" is right on description, and for ME at least, is indicative of a Primary Eating Error.... something I"VE done that overwhelms the normal and rather stately way my Band (my Little Angle of the Silicon Fist) tells me in my enthusiasm I have committed some procedural mistake in reverting back to my Old Bad Eating Habits..... too much too fast too dry I've NEVER had "PB" with nibble/nibble/nibble in a nice slow & easy cadence, that allowed the bolus to become wet & semi-liquid from actually CHEWING before swallowing. It IS one of the more difficult habits I continue periodically to forget. While there have been periods of the Band TOO TIGHT (in my early phase when I didn't recornize the signs for "TOO TIGHT DUMMY--[yes-I was a slow learner]" and I "PBed' or 'got the slimes' daily for weeks on end, in fact I've NEVER actually upchucked anything that resembled 'bottom stomach' material....no digestive juices, no distunct odor of something barn yardy.... "Vomit" IMHO includes digestive juices. "PB" doesn't.

Surgery Date 8/10/09 Dr. Arif Ahmad John T. Mather Hospital I'm a little over a week post op. My first thought after surgery was hold crap... this hurts. Did I make a mistake came next. I was very uncomfortable but the peacefulness in the hospital room was very relaxing. I went home early afternoon the next day. I did laps around my yard and rested. I had absolutely no appetite thanks to the god awful taste in my mouth. I was told the taste was from the anesthesia. I could barely get down the EAS shakes which I had no problem drinking before. I got through my first night at home OK. My fiance took the next day off as well which was great. I needed a lot of help getting out of bed and he was great to lean on when I was walking. Second day home was pretty uneventful. Day three the kids came home. It was hard for me not to jump up when they needed something and I just had to prepare their meals. No one does it better than mom. I had been taking Vicodin at night but decided to stop. I went to bed that night and had trouble falling asleep. At one point I did drift off but woke up in a full blown anxiety attack. I wanted to climb out of my skin. My mind was racing with what seems like ridiculous notions now. What if I want to eat alot? What if I want to binge? What did I do to myself? I wanted the band out then and there. It was an awful night. Day 4 post op and I moving around better. My diet basically consisted of protein shakes, water and broth. I tried jello but I just don't like it. I went to see my surgeon for a check up and he advanced me to stage 2. I have found a new love of farina and yogurt. Day 5 Post op and I am expecting company. I washed the kitchen floor and did some laundry with the help of my daughter. My friend came over and we had a nice time. Then I went shopping to get my fiance a birthday present. It was about 93 degrees out and I almost passed out at TJ Maxx. I felt awful and needed to get home. I think I overdid it on Day 5. I spent the rest of the day hydrating myself and taking it easy. Day 6 Post Op and I'm having family over for lunch. I didn't do much but go grocery shopping and prepare some snacks. I ordered pizza for dinner. I had soup of course.I had a nice day. I like entertaining even though I didn't get to have anything yummy. Day 7 Post Op. One week banded. I still have soreness at the incision site and I keep getting an intermittent sharp stitch on the right side of my belly button. Not sure what that's from. Sleeping is still a chore but no more anxiety. I was an ambien user for a very long time so I am use to sleep problems. I found tylenol PM in liquid form in case I need a little help. Day 8 Post Op. Back to see my surgeon. I was so happy to see how much I lost that I forgot to ask him about the pain. I was hoping to advance to Stage 3 but he said I needed to stay on Stage 2 a few more days. Day 8 Post Op. Spent the day with my sister and our kids. It was hot out and I tend to get a little nauseaus then I get heated. Breakfast now is farina. Lunch is yogurt. I throw a protein shake in there somewhere and have soup for dinner. I'm not sure if I'm hungry or not. So here I am. I hope I get the results I am looking for. I have been overweight my entire life and have no idea what it feels like to be in a healthy body. I can't wait until I am well enough to get to the gym. Its way too hot outside for walking. Next week I will go and get on the treadmill and start out slow. More to come...

I can understand why you might have fears, but obviously the complications are rare exceptions and not the rule. There is no way that doctors would put themselves at such huge risk if these complications were common. I had a great experience. I had surgery June 2. I was up and walking within hours of surgery and discharged the next morning. By the end of day 4, there was no pain. I thought I would never be able to drink so much water, but that finally got bettr by about the 6th day. Today, I am walking 50 minutes and doing water exercises. Last week I thought I would never get my energy back and this week, I am much better. I have to remind myself that I had surgery just 2.5 weeks ago. If you follow the doctor's orders exactly - walk as frequently as possible after surgery (even I f it is only a very short way and strive to stay hydrated) you will most likely do really well. Complications can be serious, but they are rare. This is life changing surgery. Be excited.

Well , I 've never done this before but ok........where do i begin? I tried to have a gastric bypass in 2005, long story short i was denied....... after my friend Hurrican Katrina kindly asked me to move out of Louisiana, i found myself in Texas, well i was able to transfer my job to TX, God allowed me to buy a house, and i have been blessed beyond measure. In December of 2005 i switched my ins co to blue cross blue shield(for federal employees)i never thought again of a bypass, even though the weight was adding up, in January of 2007 while on the phone with a friend she encouraged me to try my new ins co for a lap band, well i did, the very next day i call ed my ins co, and they informed me that as of January 1, 2007 BCBS now paid for the lap-band for federal employees!!!!!!!!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!:clap2: I immediatly jumped on the ball, after 4 mos i was finished with test and documents. On september 10th 2007 my md's office called to say, they were forwarding my "stuff" to BCBS, and i should know within 2 weeks,I took a step of faith and informed the nurse that i was going to pray that BCBS would answer her that week.......on Sept 14th 2007 my md's office called!!!!!! I WAS APPROVED!!!!!! PRAISE GOD IN HEAVEN WHO ANSWERS HIS CHILDREN WHEN THEY CALL:clap2: I knew God would answer!!! well iwas scheduled for Sept 25th, then 1 week later i had to be re-scheduled, the doctor had family issues!!!!! what??? iam fat Mr. Doctor... deal with your issues, and let me have my surgery!! but i said okay, God knows best, re-scheduled for the 9th of October.... so iam about 2 weeks away, can't wait to live life as the NEW ME!!!!!!!
