But you have lost a total of 21 pounds in 6 weeks so that is normal and good, I didn't loose that much.you will have weeks where you don't loose much it's part of the healing process and the journey in general -

there are so many factors when it comes to weight loss and gain. you can restrict too much and the body is in starvation mode and tries to conserve fat on the body. you could be nutritionally imbalanced causing problems; not eating enough OR taking too many supplements. you could be exercising more and loosing inches but gaining muscle. the body could be retaining excess fluids due to an imbalance of some nature. too bad you do not have a surgically support team following you. maybe get in touch with your gp and have baseline tests. glad you are talking to a nutritionalist. also don’t just rely on the scale… what are your measurements ? are you staying the same weight but loosing inches? -
I'm nearly 2 years post op (bypass) and most foods still make me ill after only a couple of bites. I take small bites, eat slowly etc., not heavy/ greasy food, but yeah. Most food makes me a bit sick and I'm so over it. Like, it's a struggle to remain over 115lbs, which is crazy! (I still have a bunch of skin removal to go too, at least 5lbs worth and my weight ranges between 117 and 125.) I'm putting a call in to my doctor because it just seems a bit weird that I'm still getting nauseated so very often. Keeps me skinny I guess. *sigh* 😓 Anyone else have this issue?

I think everything is normal because everyone is different. It could be so many things that effect weight loss. . Just keep following your program and give it more time. Everyone looses at different rates and maybe next week you will have a large loss or maybe you will be slow by steady and still reach your goal. Hugs! Its hard not to have huge losses after going through all of this. But its going to be a long journey so don't stress too much, just keep at it and every little pound will add up. -

I have such a strange shaped body I can't imagine this working for me although I love the idea. I have such a long torso and I am so tall I struggle to find shirts that are long enough. My pants size is way smaller than my shirt size. I have already carried all of my weight in my abdomen so now that is were 90% of my excess skin is so I still need larger shirts. haha. Always something! I thought about trying like stitch fix or something like that when I hit my goal weight or maintenance (which ever comes first) mainly to try things that I would never consider when shopping for myself. I am such a tshirt and jeans girl that it is SO HARD to even consider anything else. And, when I do I feel like I am dressed up and/or over dressed for just having dinner or whatever. -

I even was thinking about seeing a psychiatrist , i got skin hanging....but i woke up this morning, saw your post. So i now know i wasnt the only one going through this....BUT IMMA GET THRU THIS !! I have never heard of bypass to sleeve. Would be great for you to tell us more. I would think that would be difficult to do considering the anatomy of both surgeries. Committing to changing your lifestyle and dealing with the underlying issues with food is hard work. you can out eat any surgery! Gastric sleeve, d/s, bypass etc are all just tools to help you be able to better control your consumption of calories . Personally, my issues with food brought me to this weight and will bring me back to it if I do not continue to work on and control my food issues. I have seen a few people I know eat themselves obese again after bypass. (One with bypass resumed her constant Dr Pepper drinking two weeks in because she “couldn’t live” without several cans a day. Surprise surprise she didn’t loose as much as she thought and is creeping back). Sleeve does work well for a majority of people, especially those who make the changes. I hope you are finding a path to achieve what you want. -

Iv'e had BOTh the ruen-y bypass surgery that was successful FOR over 10 years, after having a baby, gaining weight back and having vitamin deficiency issues I had a revision to a gastric sleeve. The sleeve has been a joke, there is no stopping me from over eating sweets or fried foods, I was sick when I ate those things with a ruen-y. I had an upper gi last week (I am 7 years post op of revision) Dr says my stomach looks like any other non surgery stomach he sees. So much for my surgery dr saying stomachs dont stretch. 1.Ruen-y is more evasive but it keeps you from eating sweets/fried foods without becoming so ill you have to lay down for 2 hours. (not dangerous, just very uncomfortable) 2.If you have weight loss surgery be SURE to have lipo suction after you've lost most of y our weight. Once you grow a fat cell you NEVER loose it unless you have it removed by having lipo suction or cool sculpting. A fat cell will lay flattened until you have extra calories that need stored then they pop right up. Get rid of them b&&*$ right away, you can still grow more cells if you over eat but it takes time to grow them new, old cells are like little saboteurs waiting to fill up again. 3. If you don't like aerobic activity try chill-aerobics. Sit somewhere cold.. shiver and ur body burns fat. 15 min. of shivering equals 30min,. of aerobic activity. Your body will burn fat to try and warm you up. (it's actually opposite in a polar bears body) -
Hi everyone. I found this forum from a friend. I had to have emergency Gastric Sleeve surgery on 25th August as my hiatus had been strangling my stomach. Part of my stomach had died or diseased he said, it was all a blur for me. Anyway it was another kick I needed for weight loss help. I had been going to gym 4 days a week for a month prior to help me loose weight. So on surgery day I weighed in at 103kgs. I didn’t get the chance to do any pre op I have read. I was basically thrown in the deep end. I’ve been on liquid diet since surgery and still could not tolerate soft puréed foods unless it was able to go through a straw. Today ihad to go back for surgery as I had stricture from the hiatus repair and the sleeve done. They removed some scarring and ballooned my oesophagus. So I’m on liquid diets for another week the dr said. I am over the “smoothies”. And puréed fruits/soups. Is this normal?

I ended up waiting almost two years from when I first reached out to my center, because of concerns about complications if I went a self pay route. I could for sure have written a check but I wanted the additional peace of mind. I was really annoyed at first about the waiting period and hoops I had to jump through to get qualified but in retrospect I’m glad I had them. I ended up losing weight prior to surgery, which helped me get ready for the lifestyle change and be more prepared for recovery, and I had enough time to be certain over and over that I was making the right call. I understand once a decision is made that it is frustrating to wait, but honestly if you have the option to get insurance to pay I’d always go that route. Also glad I didn’t fork out the cash for self pay because 2 years post op I ended up using those funds for skin removal, haha. -

Okay to try and answer some of these questions, I have tried to eat healthy food and do mostly eat healthy food but I can even drink water and have to lay down I think I just take in too much at once but I’m still experimenting. No I haven’t talked to my surgeon in quite a while, and I don’t see any therapists, I have an insatiable hunger where the moment my stomach makes and room I’m hungry and want to eat again, I wouldn’t call it a bad relationship with food I just think it’s a nutritional deficiency. My primary and I are working on the whole fainting thing and hopefully we can rule out whether it’s a deficiency or not. When it comes to my sleep eating, it’s either I’ll wake up (just conscious enough to get what I need) and I’ll go get food if I forgot to place something near me, or I’ll literally sleep eat and wake up to wrappers and no food where I left it. I don’t take any medication but I had a breast surgery in July and was taking opioids for pain (bad I know) and I’d pair them with Benadryl because they made me itchy and then I continued taking them because I was really getting some good sleep but I stopped after I got restless leg syndrome type of symptoms and the sleep eating started around then, although it makes more sense for it to be some sort of deficiency rather than because of the pills I took in July. And lastly, with the loose skin I’ve heard about derma rolling which is rather painful but can tighten minor loose skin I haven’t tried it long term though but the science adds up, and I’ve heard about a skin tightening cream call neora firm (something something) and it has a lot of good reviews (it’s expensive though) and it’s again typically for minor loose skin. -

On the sleep eating: Have you recently starting taking a sleep med like Ambien or Lunesta? In many people it can cause sleep behaviors that you don't remember. Both caused me to act on whatever I was thinking about when I went to sleep. It got interesting. On the passing out when standing and weak after eating thing: It sounds like Orthostatic hypotension (postural hypotension). Also, when your losing weight and meds you take may need adjusting. Again, a year or so ago I lost some weight (more or less against plan) and I started passing out when I stood. Left a nice hole when my head hit the drywall once. A couple of my meds needed to be adjusted downward and the problem resolved. On the loose skin thing: There are no creams, lotions, or pills that will help. This is largely an issue of age, genetics, how long you were overweight, how much damage was done to the skin. Of course surgery can help. Also exercise to fill in some of the skin with muscle. Time also can help a little. One last thing: You're dealing with a lot. In addition to working with your physical symptoms you may want to talk to a therapist to help you learn coping mechanisms to replace food. It can also help in coping with the other things that seem out of your control. It definitely can't hurt and can be surprisingly helpful. Hang in there. You are your best advocate. Get the help you need and keep pushing until things improve. Good luck, Tek -

Hi everyone, thank you all for your interest ! My doctor is not very available, I regret sooo much to had it done by him. I'm at an average of 1200-1300cal a day. Is it too much ? Since the second month I was able to eat more that my fellow surgery buddies who got it at the same time as me but again, we think the doctor did my gastric sleeve a bit larger since I only had 70lbs to loose. Go to work by walk, but that's it. I'm aware that I should exercise more. I eat regarding to my pcos and hormonal imbalances. Cutting calories does not work for me, I have insulin resistance. Metformin does not work for me either (stomach pain), I use ovasitol now. As I said, rarely eat between meals, even if I do it's mostly protein. I've got an appointment the next month, will see with the nutritionist. The weird thing is, I've lost like 15 pounds the first month, then nothing for 3 months, then 8 lbs again a month, then nothing for 2 months again and on until a loss of 33lbs. Only lost 2 pounds last months. Very irregular. I hope to see a change until the end of this year. I don't put a lot of pressure because I know I've got insulin resistance and a lower bmi and I was aware that it would be slower than others, but it's hard as you may all know. Thank you again -
THE WEIRDEST STUFF HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ME AFTER I GOT MY BYPASS OCTOBER 2021 So when I was fresh out of surgery I had a really hard time when I started being able to eat solids, everything I ate made me sick, or I’d feel like something was stuck and just generally uncomfortable and so I had stopped eating because it became unbearable to be sick after every meal, it led to me being hospitalized a week or two for dehydration the doctor told me my body was eating itself (muscle/fat) anything it could to keep me alive and my blood sugar would stay critically low despite them putting sugar in my IV this happened twice (I was admitted on two separate occasions) they did all the tests but nothing was abnormal and they couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t eat, but my surgeon was getting worried/upset and he said if I was admitted again I’d be put on a feeding tube he said and I quote “eat anything I don’t care what it is, just eat” he also said it would probably be uncomfortable for awhile but still force yourself. So after that I went home and would just eat whatever I could whether that be bad food or good food and it did hurt a lot and I’d get so sick I’d get hot and feel like I’d faint and so to combat it I’d just lay down in front of a fan and bear the pain which lasted about 30mins after EVERY meal I’d also go into a mini food coma after every meal and it was a big inconvenience because no matter where I was after I ate I’d have to lay down and I’d be drawn into a food coma for who knows how long. Time skip to now, I’m doing better I don’t have a problem eating but when I eat too much I do have to lay down but the thing is… I can eat way more then I should like maybe two cups full of whatever food, although when it comes to certain meats I can only eat a little and I’ll feel pretty sick afterwards, but shrimp for example I can eat a lot of. I don’t have any problems eating sweets ( which I’m beyond great full for I feel more normal now even though I can eat only a little I feel like I got a bit of my life back I had felt so depressed because food was my outlet and not being able to enjoy food any type of food had really became hard for me) and I actually eat them on a daily basis although I can only have a small amount (or it depends what sweets it is) without getting sick, I seem to be able to eat alot of popcorn. I only experienced dumping syndrome once in my life after I had some tea with honey a few days out of surgery, but after that I never had it again. I gained this really weird symptom where every time I stand up from a sitting position I faint or feel very dizzy where everything goes black and I fall down without losing consciousness, it only last a few seconds and then I’m fine but I’ve hurt myself a few times because of it. I also feel hunger, I’ve felt hunger even right out of surgery but now I’m always hungry 2 hours after eating but I don’t get stomach rumbles I get this heartburn feeling that’s persistent until I eat it’s my way of knowing when to eat. I have a big problem with standing still in one spot for even 10 minutes It makes me feel sick like I’ll throw up or something I get hot and dizzy but I’m just fine walking for hours just the moment I stand still I get nauseous. I find it harder to drink water without a straw, and I find it easier to eat laying down than sitting up and I think that’s really weird, but despite eating anything I want I still lose weight and I don’t really feel the need to anymore I’m at a good area. One last thing that’s pretty recent…. I sleep eat. I don’t know when it happened maybe a month or two ago but every night now I’ll wake 3 or 4 times and munch a little on whatever is nearby, I’ve eaten 3 full boxes of cheese-its over the course of 5 days (which didn’t sit well with me in the long run) I’ve eaten cookies, I’ve eaten cheese, I’ve eaten candy, I’ve even eaten a whole sandwich and sometimes I have no recollection of it but I’ll see the wrapper or evidence near me on the floor. I don’t know how to stop this habit it’s really getting out of hand so now I just place healthy options near me before bed so I won’t gain weight because I did gain a few pounds recently. Well, these are just my experiences and this all started after my surgery although I don’t know for sure if it’s surgery related. Please feel free to comment below if you’ve experienced anything similar I’d love to hear it! I’m managing just fine I’ve found a system to deal with my inconveniences (since it’s just more annoying and I feel I can deal with it) but if I can find a way to rid myself of it then I’d feel more normal!! P.s. does anyone know how to tighten minor loose skin?? My skin isn’t very loose but in some areas like my lower stomach and thighs it’s not as tight, I lost the majority of my weight when I was the hospital which is less than ideal but even still the skin is only slightly loose. I’ve heard working out can help (and I have little to no muscle right now I lost it during the hospital phase) so I’m working on that but if anyone has any other type of remedies I’d LOVE to try it! Yep, did it all in one go. I’m not gonna lie and say recovery was easy but I was able to go back to work at 2 weeks and as of 3 weeks I’m able to get back to my Peloton rides and a lighter version of my exercise routine. I had about 5 lbs of skin removed over all. -

Congratulations! It is so exciting to have to buy clothes (although gets costly, haha) I was wearing clothes until it was impossible, shirts so big they were falling off my shoulders. Constantly pulling up my paints or even holding them up while I walked. HAHA! Dropping weight so quickly, I would have been buying clothes every month. It got annoying and I started buying or wearing clothes a smidge tighter or more fitting than I am comfortable in. Like I feel like some of my shirts are a little more snug than preferred and people can see my blobby saggy skin. HAHA BUT! I will say, I have noticed that since I started wearing well fitting clothes EVERYONE NOTICES the huge change. I went out this weekend and wore a shirt that was (IMO) a bit too fitting. I wasn't totally comfortable in it. But, I knew I would be standing/walking most of the time so my stomach/skin wouldn't be squished out making it tighter (if that makes sense)... Anyway... friends posted pics they took on FB and when I saw myself i was like WHOA LOOK AT ME!!!! I had multiple people comment on the pics about how great I looked, people even texted me congratulating me and sending me inspiring messages! Even after loosing almost 140 lbs I just recently could see it in other people pictures, like if I took a selfy I could see it but when other people took full body pics I still see the same ol fat girl. Then I went out with my bestie for sobriety celebration and when I saw the pics I was like woo look at me getting skinny. haha Although, I still see the fat girl a lot! This weekend's pictures are when I REALLY saw it. Fitted clothes, jaw line.. who is this woman! Congratulations to ALL OF US! We put in the work! -

Hello. Really everyone is different. Without knowing all of your details it is hard to say. You could talk it over with your Dietician or Nutritionist? They could go over your diet with you, and see if they find something that could be slowing things down. Be open and honest, it will only help you. I eat carbs (minimal because of how much I can eat), my team and Nutritionist are very "balanced diet" friendly. But again, everyone is different. Some people's body hate carbs and other are fine with eating them. Like you mentioned, if you have less to loose than you will loose slower. As well as when people starting out bigger get closer to a "normal" weight they slow down substantially. I have a friend who has been trying to loose her last 20 lbs for months now. Just have to keep pushing. Good luck, loss is still loss no matter how fast or slow you think it is going! -

Stay off the scale for now. It will drive you nuts. You will hit stalls along your journey. I hit my first stall at 2 weeks post op. I didnt loose weight for about 2 weeks or so. you probably hit yours just a tad early which happens. Keep with the program and the weight will come off. I try to weigh myself every 2 weeks to 1 month. as for the pulse i am not sure there. I had high blood pressure before surgery and after surgery now i have low blood pressure. Where normally i would be in the 130-145 and now i am at 100 or so. (Blood pressure cuff) and my Beats per minute were in the 80-90's and now after surgery its low at around 50-60 -
First Week Post Op Nerves Are Shot

Ok, breath. You just had a pretty major surgery. You’re going through a lot of physical, psychological & emotional changes & it takes time to sort them all out & work out what you’re doing. So feeling a little anxious is quite common. Yes, you can add additional protein powder to your shakes. You can add it to soups & broths too. Walking is the best exercise to begin as it doesn’t strain or overly tax your healing & recovering body. Remember you should limit your lifting, pulling, & reaching fir a few weeks while healing. Plus it helps with avoiding clots & with getting rid of any lingering surgical gas. Some activity is good but listen to your body as to how much you can do. Start with around your house inside &/or out a few times a day. Yes, you can go outside. (Funny they think fresh air is bad but they wander around your house with cigarette smoke over their clothes, in their hair & on their skin.) You don’t have any open wounds. The wounds are quite small usually each less than inch long & they’re covered anyway. Yes, bruising, swelling, tenderness, etc. around the wound sites is common. If it persists or gets worse contact your surgeon. Some people do have more discomfort after surgery & have trouble getting up & down to begin. Think of all the abdominal muscles that got poked, prodded & stretched (the gas alone stretches your tummy out) during the surgery. Some say sleeping in a recliner or propped up in bed helps. Others say binders help support the abdominal region. Sugar free popsicles contain artificial sweeteners which continue to feed your desire for sweet plus some can cause side effects like bloating, diarrhoea, etc. Water, shakes, soups/broths, herbal or green teas, milk, yoghurt drinks, etc. all contribute to your fluid intake. Mix it up for variety. Does your family really need to be there? I live alone & looked after myself without any issues after my both my sleeve & gall removal surgeries. Maybe it’s time to say thank you but I can manage okay alone now but I’ll call if I need help with anything. -
My pre op liver shrink diet was 3 weeks. I had lots of food funerals before that started and I am so glad I did. I didnt need to loose any weight to get my surgery as some do.

Wow in the Uk being sent home with oxygen isn't a thing. Please contact your team, tell them your fears because I am sure being worried will only make things worse. Thinking logically, it will be the anaesthetic that will have messed with your breathing and so oxygen intake will not be where it should be. There is little reason to believe you will need the oxygen long term. If anything, your breathing will get better as you loose weight. If you are drinking ok and walking your gas pain away. Then take nana naps as much as possible. We all feel like ' oh why did I do this to myself ' moments. Every day it gets easier There are others who are more medically minded on here who will jump in I am sure. -

Only my kids, husband and two friends know I’ve had bariatric surgery. Everyone else knows that I have had hernia surgery and if anyone asks about my food or weightloss I tell them I’m working with a nutritionist. Most people don’t ask beyond that - but of course sometimes closer family does (my siblings). I explained to them I was having issues with my liver being enlarged so to try to address that I’m making some changes and working with a nutrition. All of those details are true, I just haven’t shared the surgery with anyone that doesn’t have a need to know. So far there has been no issue or questions. I can address most things through either the hernia surgery or nutritionist. I imagine as I loose more and it becomes more noticeable I will hear “what’s your secrete” but again - I’ll tell the truth …. But maybe not the whole truth (depends on who’s asking and what their motives are). -
Great to read everyone’s updates! I’m doing wonderfully. I am the happiest I have been for years and I feel great in my skin. I don’t know my weight but a few weeks ago I was at 199 (215 pre op) which I am delighted with. I know from my clothes it is still coming off but I am working through a bunch of issues with the scale so I’m not weighing myself. I’m also super lazy and I am sure it would be coming off quicker if I actually worked out once in a while. Note that I eat three times as many carbs as my dietician recommends and I eat significantly more calories than I need to survive. I am content to gauge and eat when I am hungry and as an ED survivor that is a huge win in itself. I’m not in a hurry. I’m cooking almost everything from scratch and it’s delicious. I can eat about 3/4 cup to a cup depending on consistency. No heartburn or any other adverse issues, and I stopped omeprazole two weeks after surgery. I consider myself very fortunate. My main reason for the revision was so I could eat dense foods that would just come right back up with the band. I am so grateful to take a big bite of anything and I feel a wonderful freedom with that. cay

I’m with you. I just had my appointment today and was so stressed that I was going to get lectured or my team would think the same things. I have about 150 more pounds to loose (at least) - so I was expecting to have lost at least 30 this month. It was just a goal I set for myself, but I really thought I could do it. After loosing about 23 pounds the first 7-10 days, I thought I’m so going to crush this…. Then a stall hit. My period came back (had it three out of the last 4 weeks) and I’ve been beyond drained. Turns out my BP was low and I’m mildly dehydrated. I kept saying “if I could do more I’d loose more”. The dr and dietitian both told me to ease up on myself. They said I’m doing great and they are pleased with my progress (turns out my weight fluxed up with my period so I’m down exactly 20 pounds from surgery day). Even so - they are happy with how I’m healing and told me to get hydrated, up my protein & calories (they gave me a range) and then told me to follow up with my pcp (see him Monday). But to stay on plan and they both think I’m off to a good start and that I will do well. The first month is all about healing, recovery and getting used to our new routines as we progress through the phases. They asked me what NSV I noticed when I was frustrated with the scales and encouraged me to keep watching my body change because that is sometimes a better indicator of progress (and I do see a lot of changes). I know it is hard, especially when we set goals for ourself and we don’t meet our own expectations. But slow and STEADY wins the race… we can do this!! I was so stressed going into my appointments but I was so happy when I came out hearing their encouragement to keep doing what I’m doing. -
i just got out this chafing ointment that I used between thighs as preventative after it went away and read directions again. It says ot can be used on chafed skin. It’s called camois butt’r and it’s anti-chafe skin that’s used by a lot of cyclists. It works. I got it on Amazon.
