  1. It is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2019 with Dr. John Raheb in Denver. I can't believe I have a date, finally. It has been so long coming and it is still 3 months away but I am on his schedule!! Woo Hooo!! My husband came with me to the doc appt and it meant so much to me to have his support. He asked the doc how much time he should take off work to be home with me after surgery and the doc said "oh she'll be able to take care of herself once she leaves the hospital" and proceeded to tell him all the things I will be able to do for myself. I wanted to tell him NO... just tell him I will need my every need taken care of. I will need lots of love and words of encouragement. He should massage my feet so they don't get swollen and maybe even do my nails. 😂🤣 But I bit my tongue cause I really don't know the doc and maybe he would not think it was funny. My sweet husband decided he would take a week off anyways just to be home with me. Gotta love that man. 💖
  2. Today I finished my pre op testing and appointment- its real, 5 days left before surgery, I cannot belive it has come so fast. What did people need at the hospital? What did you take? What were some concerns that would help to ask beforehand to avoid before being sent home? Things to ask doctors or nurses about? I am just extremely nervous feeling like I am missing things I will need, or mess something up pre - op. I have the jitters..... So preparing ideas, or anything encouraging right now would be aweosme. Thanks guys. ANyone else my surgery buddy on 10/29

    Mommies getting sleeved

My boys are 10 and 4, they need a mommy that’s healthy, happy, active, and feels good about herself. It was an adjustment at first, with me being so tired, but they soon fell right in line being my helpers, they help prepare meals, shop, plan, etc. They love us happy ❤️

    Mommies getting sleeved

I had surgery 10/19/18 with a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old. The first few days they were away at my moms house and then they came home and my husband had 2 days off work. Tomorrow will be 6 days post op and I feel confident I can take care of them by myself tomorrow. My house looks like a disaster because I haven’t had time/energy to clean up but everyone is safe/healthy/and feed.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Just wondering if anyone is as annoyed as I am with the weight loss? I’ve lost 27 lbs overall which I am happy with but 14 of that was pre op. I was sleeved on 10/1 and feel like I’ve should’ve lost more than 13 lbs considering I’m still on a liquid diet (I have eaten small amount of food here and there not much). My eating habits were so extreme pre surgery and I know it takes time but I’m just wondering what the hell is happening. Is it me??

    40 something sleevers?

I’m 52 and had surgery on 10/10. I wish I did it years ago but I don’t focus on the past. I’m focused on today - and the future! My highest weight was (an embarrassing 365). Surgery weight was 327 and I was 316 as of this morning.
  8. I’m on buisness day number 10 of waiting for a answer from United health care choice plus. I called a few times but they just tell me it’s still in review. They said they have 15 buisness days to make a decision. Is this a bad sign? Does it usually take this long? I’m scared I will be denied!
  9. So glad this is here! I need to confess!!!! Lol I didn’t have a two week liquid diet pre surgery but I had to fast 24 hours before and nothing after 10 am that morning but liquids and nothing at all including water after midnight. I can say I had a lot of food funerals the weeks before and I actually gained 4 lbs the day of weigh in for surgery :(. So the first week about day five or six when I could do clear liquids I consumed 2 32oz bluebell vanilla ice cream cups....& I got soooooooo sick! I did not and currently do not want ice cream anymore blah! You think I learned my lesson then, right? NOPE. So second week into full liquids...I found I could suck and chew down Doritos chips and spit it out...I just needed to chew something!! Then I ventured to find Cheetos white cheddar puffs and did the same thing except I learned I could swallow a little bit with no sickness. So glad to could get that off my chest. Now I’m on soft foods and I honestly have found three recipes on the Baritastic app that has helped me so far. I am using a kids spoon and measuring out two tablespoons of food at a time. TBH I am scared that I will fail at this keeping up with protein and eating enough. Thanks for forum post :).

    October 2018 Sleevers

I was allowed to swallow pills (Tylenol) in the hospital. I've been swallowing my Prilosec capsule every day since I got home and Actigal (to prevent gallstone formation) since 10 days after my surgery. I wouldn't take huge or solid ones (I mean, the Actigal is really big, but it's a capsule, so I'm guessing it breaks down in the stomach). Like a normal One-A-Day vitamin might be too much, but Prilosec is definitely fine, according to my team.

    Family eating your food!

I just use a square piece of parchment that fits in my micro turntable. And I know how hot my micro is. So I put them both on 30 seconds to start. Then do 10-15 second intervals til they "look right". Sometimes you just have to take them out of the micro and let them cool to know how crisp they will be until you learn your cheeses and how they act when you nuke them. I cut the provolone on 1 1/2s at the deli. You can also try that with the mozzarella from the deli (as slices). The advantage of shredded is that you don't use as much cheese per shell because they are "lacy" in nature.

    The Case for More Water

I’m in Almost 2 month out as of 10/29/18 some days no problem other days lucky to get 60 oz in and then my weight stalls trying for 100 oz per day no exceptions.
  13. To come back to topic I think these 60% EWL after 5 years or so are pretty much common after some decades of WLS. I don't know how many people really get to a normal or near-normal weight and maintain it after 10 years or so. I don't know many people IRL who had WLS. One had lap band as well and gained it all back. Another one got to a normal weight and gained part of it back. Another one got lap band and revision to bypass and after looking at a picture of her a few months ago she gained at least most of it back. About the people on the boards who vanish - who knows? After all I vanished from the boards for years and years before a revision got me back to one. When it comes to weight and regain and the like I think too many people are asking the wrong question. Usually the question is: "What are these people doing to get to a and maintain a normal weight?" I personally think the question should be: "What enables these people to do the necessary things to get to a and maintain a normal weight?"
  14. October 23, 2018, I started my journey towards weight loss surgery (sleeve). I am so excited to get this weight off and keeping it off. Please feel free to post if you are with me and just starting. The surgeon said it will be about 3 months until I get my date to have surgery. I will wait patiently and do everything that is required reach my goal. My starting weight is 266lbs and my short term goal is 199.75 (to get under 200) and my long term goal is 160lb. in the next could of years.

Losing weight but not seeing it

Trust me, I get it. 10/15 0600 i was 389 pounds 10/22 2200 I was 341 pounds I have lost 49 pounds in a week. Im still a fat bastard, and will probably always see myself as one. The wife says she can see it though, neck is thinner, stomach is less pronounced... we take photos tomarrow.
  16. Or elcee you would dip your finger in the bottle of booze and rub the baby's gums when they were teething. Like to say it was brandy they used , sounds status-like but in my family corn liquor. Had people on daddy's side that were smell business men, oh stone the crows-love that term, came from an English novel I read- the fact was there some moonshiners in the family tree. Just flatter them by calling them" small businessmen"! They flat-out made white lightening. And yes I have tasted it, had enough family pride I wouldn't throw up, especially in front of my uncle's. But the headache I got, woweee wow wow. That was quite memorable. Daddy married Mama whose family was of a different persuasion, her mama, my grandma, was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and was even buried with her pin and ribbon on. And there was discussion at reunions which parent had "married down" but they were married for 50 years and 2 months before Daddy died in 1993, and Mama followed him 10 years later. And they must have believed in quality more than quantity because they had only me.

    Post op hunger

What do you all mean by "no restriction"? How much can you eat in a half hour period? For comparison purposes I (sleeved 10/3) can eat 4 oz of yogurt or roughly 3 ounces of cottage cheese, refried beans, smooth tuna salad, or custard. It takes me 20-30 minutes to get through that much. If I eat more than that much, or I go too fast, I don't get the "full" signal you hear people talk about on here (sore shoulder, etc.), but I definitely feel pretty crappy and kind of sick.

Like the American Association for Cancer Research. Where they have, you know, real researchers whose sole job is cancer research.

    Post op hunger

I think I had my sleeve the same day (10/10)! I also feel no restriction which is worrying me! I was really hungry over the weekend but feeling better today.
  22. I'm headed to Canada in 10 days. If I can find room in my suitcase I'll bring you back some and send it over. I have a list of stuff to bring back that we can't get here.... Crystal Lite, chewable pregnancy vitamins (my sister has been on them for 7 years post RNY), cheap clothes that don't look like K-Mart $3 t-shirts.

    Infection prior to surgery?

Sorry about your UTI. I don’t know about others, but I had my sleeve on 10/10 and they did NOT give me an antibiotic after surgery. I think it’s odd they didn’t give you any to clear up the UTI before surgery. Did they say why they didn’t??

I started cycling 3 weeks ago. I have a heart rate chest band monitor and try to stay in my target zone. I also have an app on my phone to keep track of my speed and distance. I am up to 7.5 miles in 44 minutes. I want to get to 10 miles. But my scale weight loss has slowed way down. I think I am losing fat and getting a little muscle back because my pants are getting looser. I feel like I lost so much muscle in the first 3 months. That is why is started riding a bike so hopefully my leg muscles would at least stay where they were and not disapear anymore. They feel like they are coming back! I hope.
  25. I had the gastric sleeve surgery on 10/19/2018, and it has been work all the way. Although I'm in so much pain, I can't wait to see the results. I'm ashamed to say this, but when I started my phase 1 and 2 diets, I weighed in at 554lbs. As of today, I'm at 498lbs. Besides the pain, I haven't really had any other issues as of now with nausea etc I'll be moving on to the puree stage 10/27/18. I will just like to encourage everyone to keep pushing through, we can do it! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
