Hi there! I'm 3 months into my 6 month supervised plan, so we should be having surgery around the same time! I was just given a surgery date of Feb 5th 2019 this week. I also cannot lose any weight - my insurance doesn't go by just the starting weight either. I am at 36 BMI right now, and the cut off is 35 with co-morbidities. The nurse told me this weight in that I need to make sure I do not lose ANY weight. I've been eating 1300 calories or less and walking 10,000 steps daily for 3 years now and haven't lost any weight (due to ploycystic ovarian syndrome) - I think I'll be fine, LOL.

Have you purchased any goal clothing for after surgery?
Boldilocks replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't bought anything - I only just got my surgery date and it's at the beginnng of Feb 2019. BUT, I have started making a sweater in a size 34 chest. Let me explain, I'm a knitwear designer, and I have to make the samples for the designs I publish, to be photographed for the front of the pattern. 34" is the norm, and it's not easy to find models locally. Today, I started a sample in a size 34" in a beautiful olive green that I know will suit my colouring, with the intention that I will model it myself for the pattern pictures. I am only a 38B bust right now, but that's because I had a breast reduction 5 years ago. I used to be a 44H. I may as well be bigger than I am, because my belly sticks out furhter than my boobs at this point. Not loving the eternal 9 months pregnant look, have to say. I have always been too embarrassed to model my own designs. I am hoping that by this time next year I'll be a 34B, with the rest in proportion, and I can save myself a lot of time and money and angst looking for models. It will be such a proud moment for me, I can't even express how much. -
Medications with weight gain side effect
allwet replied to tnks2hp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
ok my opinion - that and 3 bucks still wont get you a Starbucks coffee do not stop your meds without medical supervision if you have to choose between mental stability and being thin choose metal stability. i dont think you have to choose but if it comes down to just those 2 options choose mental health. you will take longer to get there but you have the rest of your life to finish this race. eat the 3 walls of the grocery store - veggies , meats , dairy nothing from the middle isles as harsh as that sounds it really is that simple - dont consume processed carbs sugar under 10 grams per day carbs (from veggies) under 50 grams per day all other calories from protein and fat whatever mix works for you. if you dont eat sugar and processed carbs the calorie count will fall by default. all the bad slider foods and liquid calories are covered by no sugar and no processed carbs with a total carb cap of 50g per day. you can then work to a 16/8 eating cycle and use ketosis during the 18 hours of fasting to help nudge you along despite the meds messing with your body chemistry and this one will be the most unpopular of all - NO FRUIT if your not losing weight as a side note i believe some if not most of that 6 pounds you gained was water. it takes 24,000 extra calories to gain 6 pounds of fat and i just dont see that happening in a month. water and fat are not the same and the water weight can go just as fast as it came but the fat is much harder to burn up. please dont give up. post WLS is mostly a mind game so keeping yourself happy and positive is the best medicine. -

40 something sleevers?

Hello, I'm new and my surgery is in 2 days. Excited and nervous. I'm 40 and my surgery is 10/30/18 -
Bella passed away this past Friday afternoon at 1:30 PM. She choked on her puppy food as I was watching her eat, I frantically drove to the closest animal hospital and she was limp when I rushed in and asked for help. They did CPR 4 times and a shot of adrenaline to her heart but was gone. I was and still am a wreck. She was only 10 weeks old, should have probably stayed with her mom for 3 months looking back. I did all I could do, and my mental health has taken a nose dive. I'm not sure why things like this happen, but they do. I did all I possibly could. (I just said that) Ironically I'm not hungry or even thinking about food at all. I just want Bella back in my arms poop breath and all. Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful responses I appreciate it. 😢

Food Before and After Photos
BelleOfBatonRouge replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It’s my first before and after! Sleeve performed 10-17-18 1 oz moist chicken (cooked in the crockpot with cream of mushroom soup. When chicken is tender but before overcooked I took it out and cut/shredded it. When plated I topped with a spoonful of the mushroom soup cooking liquid) .5 oz egg salad. Pretty standard recipe but with local jalapeño relish rather than regular pickle. So good. Finished with a sprinkling of volcanic sea salt. -
I am a bar person too and I made my first trip to the bar 6 days after my surgery (surgery was 10/10) and I’ve been 4 or 5 times since. I just drink water and I bring a protein shake just in case I get hungry. Just try it and see how it feels! It’s not as bad as I thought it would be.

The link between high protein diets and cancer
FluffyChix replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Really? How do you figure? Let's do basic math. mkay? I weight 150lbs (this isn't even my ideal weight...it is just my current average weight). 150lbs / 2.2 kg/lb = 68.18kg (my current average weight expressed in kilograms). Now you're saying the researchers suggest 0.8g/kg of weight. So multiply 68.18kg by 0.8g/kg and you get= drumroll please!!!!!!!!!! 68.18kg x 0.8g/kg= 54g of protein needed. That is his recommendation. But the USDA puts about a 10% additional protein req on that "just to play it safe and not kill people" so it becomes rounded up to around 60g. (OK, forget biochem. Maybe you guys should start with 5th grade math skills class??) -
I’m now beginning 8 weeks post op after reading everyone’s ideas I thought I’d be happy to share my stats. HW 257 SW 236 CW 209 surgery was 8/28/19 today is 10/26/18. Just saw the doctor on Friday I was so bummed out cause I thought I had only lost 5 pound this last month. She let me know that since September I had lost more than 20 pounds. So last night I felt ok about my journey and this morning weighed in and lost another pound. Hope that gives you some peace the journey is up and down and the scale Doesn’t give us the whole picture of how we’re doing don’t forget to tape to use your tape measure and get you know at least once a week I’ve lost over 54 inches since February

I had a vsg done 10/15, started out at 389, weighed this morning, fully dressed 339. Only complication was a go round with gout. I think the dehydration post op a few days triggered it. A round of steroids and Percocet and I was good as new in a few days. No dumping, no hunger, bp feels down. Went out to the moose lodge last night and forgot to wear a belt, my shorts kept slipping off my ass night. (No no drinking other than a unsweet tea). It’s funny because I wore the same shorts the day of surgery and they were snug on my hips. Good problem to have I guess. 2 week post op dr visit is Tuesday... I’m ready to get back to work.

Hello All, My surgery date for the Roux en y gastric bypass is 11/1/18. My original surgery date was 10/11/18 in which I completed 11 days of my 3 week pre op diet ( which consists of 4 protein shakes a day, 2 protein bars, 1 small banana, up to 3 servings of sugar free jello, low sodium broth, and of course clear liquids). Now when I first did the diet the first time I followed it very strictly and did not cheat at all. This is now my second time doing the pre op liquid diet which my doctor wants me to do 2 weeks instead of 3 this time around. I "cheated" and had Vietnamese Pho broth only the broth and I am freaking out that I really screwed my self. I haven't deviated from the diet except for that but I noticed my weight loss has plateaued since I did this. Just looking for advise on here since I am freaking my self out so much =(

Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
Creekimp13 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Apples are incredibly good for you. They're delicious. They provide and feed some wonderful gut microbiota and they're chock full of phytonutrients you need to prevent illness. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/10-health-benefits-of-apples#section6 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC442131/#idm140507075898624title The trick is to pick carbs that have lots of nutrients and fiber... and less refined empty crap. Apples are a stellar choice! If my body is craving the hell out of carbs...I don't put myself in the position where I lose my mind and go completely off the reservation and eat something stupid. I have some fruit or beans. I have a whole grain snack...some oatmeal or whole grain toast. I beat the carb cravings into submission and outsmart them by giving them some good carbs that are rich and in plant protein, fiber, or both. You want carbs, body? Ok, you can have plenty...but I get to pick good ones. I eat a lot of fruit. I love fruit now. I very honestly would prefer fruit to candy and donuts these days....which I would never have believed a year ago. My favorite "comfort food" is watermelon now. I would rather have a slab of watermelon with candles on it than a birthday cake. LOL:) And you know what? I feel better. I don't feel edgy or like I'm in a war with food. I don't feel like I must banish things forever or punish and deny myself. I trust myself to stop at a couple of bites on special things on special occasions....because I truly love my regular forever diet. Because of my high fiber diet....staying in my calorie limit is incredibly easy. When I'm not eating fruit and whole grains, I'm munching on side salads, carrots in hummus, bowls of veggie soup, cans of mushrooms, There are 15 calories in a little can of mushrooms. For 15 calories...you get 2 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber. Mushrooms are a nutritional powerhouse and I'm glad I love them. Hungry people with cravings make bad choices. I don't go there anymore. I eat. A lot. But really mindfully. -
