  1. I have been researching this for a year now. I am self pay. Then one day (after I chose my surgeon) I realized I just needed to make the call. After I did and had my date (Sept. 3), I got so nervous! I was thinking "What have I just done?" But then I made my airfare and hotel reservations and I feel so much better about it. I think once it becomes a reality that you might actually go through with the surgery, you get nervous. I know this is the right decision for me I only wish I could've gotten an earlier date.
  2. Hey guys! I am 16 weeks post op as of today. I'm down 40 pounds and feeling good. But for the last 4 weeks or so I have stalled out and can't seem to lose for the life of me! In fact I've actually gained 2 pounds! I'm eating like I'm supposed to. I have good restriction (I think so anyway) and I'm doing circuit in the gym for 30 minutes a day 4 times a week plus Zumba. I don't know what's going on and I'm getting really bummed out. For a while there I was losing fast and had a pep in my step and now I feel let down bc even though I'm doing right, I'm not losing anymore! I realize 40 pounds in 4 months is awesome but I don't want to stop at 40. More like 140 lol. Does anyone have any advice in how to break this plateau? I'm getting discouraged and need some advice stat! I hope the rest of you are doing wonderfully!
  3. My breath is offensive! I brush my teeth and "swish" with Listerine every day but I think my diet is contributing to my foul breath. My husband even said something this morning. Has anyone experienced this and what have you done....surely with Christmas next week and time with family, I don't want to knock anyone over with festering odor.

    Before First Consultation

Also, I have completed 1.5 months of 3 months of diet supervised by my primary with weigh ins. I did my psych eval this past week and I have my last 2 weigh ins scheduled with blood work and EKG. My last weigh in is 2/2/17. Then they send all my notes to the surgeon and then they will send it to insurance for approval..

    Full or Empty

I week 3 and I was just telling my husband that I dont think I'm eating enough. I'm not sure what full feels like, but I am afraid to just keeping eating. I dont have discomfort, I have a gurgling feeling in my stomach while I'm eating.

    Bariatric Advantage capsules

I have the bariatric advantage ultra with iron. They are too big to swallow and yes you have to take 3. I empty all 3 of them and mix them into one of my protein drinks. There is a little bit of a twang but it's not too bad. You could probably split them up as long as you wait the 3 hours before/after calcium. I still have to try and get the calcium pills in but I've been putting that off. I'm struggling with all of the pills I have to take and I admit sometimes I take a day off! I take other meds for an existing condition, so taking those plus the Prevacid and potassium to heal, plus stool softeners and vitamins.....ugh. AND, they want me to quarter all of my pills and wait 15 minutes between each piece. So basically I take something every 15 minutes from morning until I go to bed. I miss popping 2-3 pills at a time with a gulp of water. This is actually the hardest thing for me, as I don't really have any other issues so far. I would crush everything but then each meal would be hideous. Wish there was a daily IV I could hook up to!

    Spouse helping

Not my spouse but I stayed with my mom for the two weeks after my surgery. What helped me was having all my "food" in one place on the counter and one shelf in the fridge. She also would go on my walks with me and that was super nice. Also, helping to remind your wife to eat and drink on schedule. It isn't easy but the reminders are nice. I needed help getting up and out of bed for the first week as well as taking showers and going to the bathroom. Lastly, because I went to bed so much earlier, I was sleeping 12-14 hours per night post surgery, mom would tuck me into bed. It just felt nice to be cared for. After the first week, I was much more independent! Hope this helps! Katy W- Louisburg, NC Lapband revision to VSG with DS HW- 297 Weight at Surgery-279 CW- will update at two week appt

    May 10th

I'm set for May 9 and starting my pre-op diet April 25. I've been trying to ease myself into it by eating mostly yogurt, protein shakes and vegetables this week. No meat or breads.

    Any grazers out there?

Yes, I'm more of a grazer by nature. I like a meal at night, but I dont really want Breakfast and I dont really want lunch, I just want bits and pieces all day long. It doesnt work for me, I MUST override this natural urge. If I get my 3 squares in, I'm much much much better, and I lose weight. Snacking is something I try to avoid. My biggest problem though is not eating lunch and wanting to snack - its making myself eat lunch in the first place! I just tend to think "later" and dont do it and end up eating all afternoon. I dont think I'll ever override this but I can control it most of the time and my band has worked well and I'm almost at goal weight. I dont look at my band as a solution, I see my eating habits as something I am going to have to control for the rest of my life, not something that will ever be "fixed". Its tiresome but I've accepted that its just the way it is. I dont demand perfection of myself, good enough most of the time works just fine.

    Hi I'm Shannan

Hi Shannan, pain is not to bad. each day after surgery you have a new pain and the last pain you had is gone.in about a week things start to get better.my diet was liquids for a good two weeks then soft foods were added in. i think the worst was getting the protine shakes down at first.reminded me of the diet shakes in my past.diet popcycles, water, broth soups, tea, and protien berry smothies were my meals.sleep alot for the first day or two . but you need to walk to get rid of the gas in you stomach after surgery.if you feel like you have alot of gas on you tummy i would bend over front ways and it would help let the air out of the lower stomach. sounds weard but it helped.well good luck on monday and have a great weekend.
  11. I am told is it is normal reaction to anethisi about 6 weeks out. COurse I just started loosing mine from the baby (about 4 months late) right before I went to Mexico. However none of my children experieinced this with their open heart procedures.....but they all have chromosomal diffeneces so a lot of things that happen to us "normies" do not happen to them and vice versa! I will see if mine slows down or stops this time.... I never really lost it with the band surgery or with either of my other two pregnancies.
  12. Well I don't know about the urine sample thing...that seems rather odd. I would be asking a whole lot of questions on that one! But for the EGK, for my pre-op, they just leaned me back in a chair and the gal had me lift my shirt and she stuck all the little stickies with wires all over my chest/abdomen and the little machine took it's readings. I've had 3 EKG's in my life and they were all like that. So I don't think you are going to get much privacy there. Except your bra.

    Surgery On The 17Th

enid many people have "food funerals" the week or night before surgery. I did, and i don't really regret it Ok, ok - maybe i shouldn't haveone out, but my DH and i went out to Red Lobster (my fav) i totally pigged out, had a drink, lots of dinner and desert, really went to town. I lived to be able to talk about it though. So if you "cheat" the night before - they won't hang you from your toenails, i promise. good luck on surgery kathy
  14. Sorry about the difficulties...my Mom is also my target at times about my weight...I am adopted and she is TINY...I could wear her shoes for dress up in 3rd grade! However, my Dad has even had some great comments in the past...He was a college football player!! (you know goes for the tiny cheerleader type) Anyway, I know they love me and want my heath and happiness and are extremely supportive about this surgery.....they finally realize that it isn't just about my eating habits and exercise/lifestyle...in fact they recognize I have always tried...it just doesn't stay off... So enough on that...I am responsible for me now and this is what I am doing about it!!! YEA!!!! Enjoy your Spring Break!!! Mine was last week and by the way I am a librarian too LOL....
  15. Exactly....Don't step on a scale for about a week or two because it is off... and when u get on the scale remember that yr body is made up of 3/4 water anyway... But I think it was almost 10-15lbs that came off pre-and when i did step on the scale when it said i had lost more but i added by 4lbs myself because i know i didn't have any water in my system and when i started to drink fluids again the scale would change... But u are swollen and everything.. it will be ok....
  16. I had chinese chicken broth today and I am wondering how many calories are in it? and I got a small (pint) Is a pint smaller or bigger than a cup? I had about 80% of that broth should I feel bad ...so paronoid. I was banded May12th and get my first fill 6/6/2011. Today is my last day of clear liquid diet now I get to start full liquid tommorow. Its just so weird trying to always read calories. I have been pretty good about the clear liquids this week

    Left shoulder pain

that gas can be a real WITCH ! I had it for a week and NOTHING helped ... not heat, not ice , not standing, not sitting ... I walked until my feet hurt and that didn't help ... it's just something that has to work its way out on its own ... I swore I wanted to be shot .... ugh. Sorry to hear you're hurting ... but glad it's subsiding

    Left shoulder pain

Saw my doc today for 1 week post op. He said all the gas should be out by now. Most likely phrenic nerve? If diaphragm is irritated, it will effect that nerve. Should lessen with time.
  19. I know this has been brought up before, but this is killing me! I am one week post op. Nothing else bothering me, but I am going on 24 hours of pain, constant on and off severe at some points. I can't seem to do anything to make it stop. I took a pain pill today, first since the surgery, and it did nothing but make me nauseous. Anyone else have another remedy for this shoulder pain?

    Scared about pregnancy

I am pretty chunky again at 9 months I have gained 60!!! Two more weeks to go!!! 39 weeks on Wednesday. I really hate this weight gain, but it seems like I have gained the most out of everyone!!! I can eat a lot more...but it doesn't justify 60!!! I will just have to see what happens after she comes out, but I am not stressing about the weight...I have a baby...my first on the way... Ummmmmm that is stressful enough!!!!

    Celebrating our victories

Congrats to everyone keep up the great work I now can wear a size large women's dress from a size 3x I too love the gym and go 5 times per week . I still have about 75 pounds more to loose but I know I will get there I'm swimming in my old clothes and I am only buying clothes second hand because they cost so much doing this transitional period. Tomorrow I will be 7 months post opt my my how times fly when your having fun .
  24. Well went in after four weeks and lost another five pounds, so I finally hit the 50 pound mark! I was banded on June 11th and although there are times I get a bit discouraged if the scale doesn't move fast enough for me (I work out at the gym three to five days a week) I'm very pleased with this. I have a 14cc band and as of this afternoon now have 9.5 in the band. I'm at a very good restriction and the doctor even told me when I lose about another 50 pounds he will schedule me for surgery to get the extra skin removed from my stomach. I am 19 pounds away from Onederland and I can't wait!
