I found it under Band to Gastric Sleeve revisions. There are other threads when you search on septic.

    Different weightloos surgery called :StomaphyX

Nonono... this is a surgery for patients who had bypass and failed due to stretching their pouch. It's a revision surgery. It's not a primary surgery.
  3. I went to another surgeon today for a second opinion. It's like night and day from my previous surgeon. I am having my lapband and plication removed and getting sleeved on March 7th. I am only required to go to the education class next week and do the preop diet for one week. The surgeon stated that he also thinks my body is rejecting the lapband. He also said I will be much happier with the sleeve. I am so glad I don't have to go through two surgeries just to get a revision to sleeve.

    2nd slippage, considering bypass

My insurance covered my revision 100%, but; I had to do the "MD run" as I like to call it again. That means, psych eval, Nut, cardiologist, pulmonary, and primary MD. I was a "light weight" too...my BMI at day of surgery was 35.2
  6. I had the lap band done about 2 years ago. The original doctor does not want to do the surgery because they don't take my insurance. Does anyone out there know of a surgeon who can get rid of the lap band on Long Island New York in suffolk county? That accepts Medicaid or Medicare?

    anyone have Cigna?

I have Cigna. I was told that the appointments didn't matter when - it just had to be once a month over a 3 month period. My paperwork will be ready for submission after the new year. Mine will be revision surgery though
  8. Wow, You certainly do have quite a bit to think about. I guess I'd weigh my options: Can you endure any further complications (even years down the line) if you re-band? Could you succeed (or maintain your current weight) if you were completely unbanded? Has your surgeon considered revising to another form of surgery if you don't reband? All in all, your attitude sounds excellent and no matter what you'll decide, I am sure you'll succeed. Please keep us posted on your decision. Happy Band (and Life) Journeys To All...

    Sleeve to bypass

I’m right there with ya. I’m 3.5 years out from my sleeve and have my revision to RNY scheduled for 10/4, due to reflux and regain (HW 246, LW 186, CW 233). I’m nervous and excited too. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

    I need guidance

First of all, I just want to say I'm sorry you're struggling and I hope you know you're not alone. The last 2 years have been brutal for a lot of us and there is no shame in any if it. That being said, before you move on to revision/bypass, have you reached out to your surgery center and/or dietitian? They should be able to offer some guidance on how to get back on track. Most suggest going back to the basics: weigh and track everything, prioritize protein, get your fluids in, move your body everyday, etc. If they aren't helpful or available to you, maybe ask your PCP for a referral to an RD? Sometimes we just need someone to point us in the right direction. Also, have you gotten support for your mental health & wellbeing? Making sure you've dealt with the junk internally is SO important. If not, that might be a really good place to start. A few sessions of therapy can go a LONG way. Maybe do some reading on emotional eating or whatever patterns you find yourself falling into. Knowledge is power! Revision is always an option, and there is absolutely no shame in pursuing it. But it's not the only option. You already have the tools, maybe you could benefit from some guidance in how to start using them again? Whatever you decide, we wish you the best! Sent from my SM-A205U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I received gastric sleeve in 2019 and was doing really well until covid hit. I lost my job and staying home when it first hit really made me depressed. Now I cant lose any weight i just keep gaining and gaining. Im trying to get some advice on if i should get revision surgery or bypass.

    Newbie on here

I've been reading again for the same reason. I joined when I was banded back in 2007 long story short I lost some weight down to 224 band was too tight for a long time I gained to 246 and then had an unfill due to dilation so I gained up to 276 and now from there I'm sitting at 320. I had Fluid added back in last year, but all it has done is stop the weight gain. I visited another surgeon hoping to have a revision to sleeve. My insurance right now is UnitedHealthcare Plus Choice (something like that) my RN told me that if it was approached as a revision surgery I would have to show some kind of complication with the band which my doctor said would be slippage, erosion, or the band somehow failing mechanically, otherwise it would be treated as a new surgery and I would have to go through the 6 month supervised diet, psych evaluation, and would have to show a 5 year history of heights and weights from a doctor to prove a history of being morbidly obese. Because I haven't had complications my surgeon believes that it is likely my insurance will deny the request for revision and possible deny it as a new surgery because I don't have the 5 year weight history I need so right now I'm looking into self pay options. I hope your insurance will approve you and you can get the sleeve. I've also struggled with feeling like I failed so I understand that. If I had just found the money to go back and get the band unfilled instead of living with it being too tight I might've kept losing weight. I just try to learn from it.
  13. What did your full liquid pre-op diet consist of? My surgeon just sort of glossed over this topic since I'm a band to sleeve revision. However, I wasn't required to do a pre-op diet with my band. So, just so I can get some ideas and know what to shop for, what was on YOUR pre-op liquid diet?
  14. I was revised from band to sleeve in Dec 2011 - nearly 4 years ago. I hit goal in Feb 2013 after losing half my body weight. I spent some time under goal, spent sometime with a small regain to slightly over goal and am now at goal again. A success story as I have never maintained a weight loss of signficance for any length of time. I am gaining confidence that I will remain in the ballpark of my goal weight for the long haul these days. I had major plastics in Oct 2013 and while I got off my workout schedule, i got back to it according to a very clear plan and it didn't interfere much. However, I have had a very disappointing turn of events that have impacted me alot, especially over the last year. Even when I was in the 250-300# weight class I was as active as I could be. I pushed through pain and discomfort to keep up with my slender friends, to do horse events, take care of my little farm etc. One of the biggest joys for me of losing all that weight was becoming very fit and capable. I worked out alot.... then.. the problems started showing up. Overuse injury triggered by an overzealous and under educated personal trainer - hip injection needed in 2014 Elbow overuse injury got so bad I had to send my horses to live elsewhere for several months which triggered a bunch of other issues (horse behavior related) Left knee starting to hurt - I believe compensating for hip Find out right hip actually has arthritis, looking at a replacement in a few years and now get injections a couple of times a year to manage the pain Right breast starts mysterously swelling earlier this year - massive tests, MRI, labwork and no conclusions really. Good news cancer has been ruled out. A week ago I had to have the implant removed since nothing worked to resolve the swelling issue. I don't have the labwork back but I am optimistic that I can have a new one put in after the 3 month resting / healing period. So, I now have a plan to deal with the hip pain, the elbow is "ok" but I am avoiding pushups for sure and the breast surgeries interfere, but I also know it is temporary... just disappointing and not part of "the plan" So, I give myself a pat on the back for maintaining my weight even as my fitness level is disappearing. I need to get back on the fitness train (hip doctor has a very good plan for my hip anyway!) but have to wait to get clearance post current surgery and then wait for a new hip injection as it is hurting again. So, the moral of my story to pre-ops: one thing to consider the longer you remain morbidly obese, the more likely you are to have problems. It is pretty clear that i had a childhood injury or perhaps birth defect that triggered the hip issue, but packing around all that extra weight is of course a major component to that hip issue, the knee issue and ongoing back pain too Moral of the story to active post ops: your body is not as healthy and strong as it seems if you have a long history of morbid obesity. Losing the weight, getting fit improves all those bloodwork, the blood pressure and all that stuff, but the muscular skelatel system damage may have already been done. I was careful to avoid high immpact workouts like aerobics, but I very much enjoy high intensity, high fitness creating activities and while they didn't cause any of my issues, they helped expose them, that is for sure. Moral of the story to all of us - don't self identify so strongly with one thing. I got really into my physical prowess (for my age), became a much bolder and stronger horseback rider and loved it. I had to cancel plans to do an intense equitrekking adventure to Iceland because with that hip - I can't spend 8 hours a day in the saddle for a week or two anymore... it is sad to me. I had also planned to do barrel racing, drill team and other speedy events that were on hold for a bit - but i think i can see my way back to some of those goals again. It has been heart breaking to watch myself very quickly drop in capability. At times it has felt a bit sad or depressing. I am currently working on creating a life with more balance - physical fitness and identification with the inner athlete, balanced with other things in life that are still satisfying even when my body isn't quite cooperating. I thought that I would feel horrible at having one implant removed. Truth of the matter is my implants were pretty small, intended to give me that lost "upper pole" fullness so I actually don't look as mismatched as I feared. I am finding my ability to deal with this physical set back that impacts my feminity/looks so much pretty okay so far and I am happy with myself for being able to handle it. It will be alot better once the effing drain comes out, but overall I am coping pretty well with this set back.

    Lap Band Revision to GS

Hi there. I had the lap band for about 5 years and just revised it to a sleeve a few days ago. I asked my surgeon about reflux. He said if I had issues with reflux with the band I will probably still have them with the sleeve. Conversely if one didn't have reflux issues before the sleeve it's unlikely that they'd have it afterwards. I don't know if that helps at all but that's what he told me.
  16. @@MinaDina I am a very social person and like to be surrounded by friends and energy.... and yet sleeve post op in 2011, I pretty much wanted to be alone. In January of this year I had to do a plastic surgery related "revision" and went alone. I sometimes got bored, but was surprised that I didn't really get lonely. I had a couple of emergency room trips this year (don't ask!) and also found that I really didn't want my grown kids around me - I was in a lot of pain and feeling like I needed to mask it for other people was stressful. So, there are some benefits of doing this solo! You might find that you do okay... and it seems to me you have pretty much ruled out the obvious suggestions (support group, or meeting people via Facebook or meetups etc).
  17. Hello, I had a lap band placed 9/4/2009. I started @ 330 lbs. In 19 months I lost down to 170. I then had several plastic surgeries. Arm lift, breast lift, tummy tuck x 2, thigh lift. My band then slipped approx jan 2012. I developed severe reflux & began to put on the lbs. After several adjustments with no success, I consulted another surgeon. In March 2013 I had the band removed and 5 days ago, May 28, 2013, I had gastric bypass. I have gained up to 254 & will diligently do my best to get back down where I need to be. I suffered a GI bleed with the RNY, but being a nurse myself, I have not been discouraged. I came home yesterday and day by day, plan to become the "new me" all over again. hopefully for good this time. The pics here are before and after lap band, prior to gaining weight back.

Thank you all. My doc office said my band has slipped. They say I meet all the criteria for revision just that my bmi is 30 which they say is the only issue but they think they can get the insurance to pay. I have the 3 month wait with the psych eval. So far I've only waited 2 weeks I hope I find out sooner than 3 months. Reading all the success stories is very inspiring. I hate having all these old obsessive thoughts again. Plus I have a closet full of clothes and heels that don't fit! Lol. Thank you Janelle. I will email you.

    $8200! What?!?!

Thanks, Marci. I hope you find a way to get your revision soon!
  20. Looking for a good surgeon that does revisions, any suggestions!! I would love to hear about your experience
  21. Ok peeps, there are enough posts about people needing sleeve to bypass revisions due to GERD, that I'm not sure which path to take. I am planning to go with Dr. Illan in Mexico. I do not have a history of significant heartburn or acid reflux. I sure don't want the surgery to start it! (I live with someone with terrible GERD, and it is awful!) What do y'all think? Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  22. Wishing you well and hoping you can get the revision.

    my blog on obesityhelp.com

i keep a blog of interesting articles about wls, interesting posts, etc. it is on obesityhelp.com search angelarias you may "friend" me here and on obesityhelp.com Hi All: I was banded in July 2004 and will be banded 5 years. I check the board monthly and am so glad there is so much more information available today than there was when I was researching weight loss surgery. I chose to be banded because it was a reversible procedure and I thought in 10 or 20 years, with medical technology as quickly as it is progressing, banding would no longer be done, RNY, DS and VSG would be long gone as viable surgical options and instead replaced with true, safe, non-invasive procedures. My band is just fine (Thank God) but I have never believed that it is a lifetime implant. For example, my dad's pacemaker has already been replaced and my mom's hip replacement from 10 years ago needs to be revised. These are lifetime implants. Hopefully, our bands will last 10-15 years-let us pray! For newbies out there, no matter how good insurance you have, never asssume emergency surgery for you is going to be free or lowcost. For those of us thast have insurance (with a wls exclusion), an emergency medical fund is essential. I have been thrilled when I read about one you being able to save enough for plastics but I have never read anyone mention that they have money set aside just for a wls emergency. IT IS essential. I travel extensively for work and wherever I go, I have the name of the local band surgeon and where to go for a fill. Here are my stats. I am 35 yrs. old, 5'5" and started at 260. I lost 10 pounds on the pre-op liquid diet which took me to 250. I lost another 30 pounds on the 6 week liquid diet which took me to 220. In the next 2 years I lost an additional 40 pounds which took me to 180 in 2006. I am now 200 so i have lost and maintained a 50% weight loss. Was weight loss surgery a good investment? I think so. I like to do a cost per pound analysis. I have currently spent $3500 for fills and $8500 for the surgery. $12000 for 60 pounds or $200 a pound. For those of you bandsters that paid out of pocket divide your pounds lost by your surgery and maintenance visit costs and you'll get a cost per pound. I would love to see posts on this forum from patients 5-10 years out of surgery--what ever surgery type you had. Share with us what the "weight loss real world" is like. More importantly, the questions I'd like to pose to everybody out there. What weight loss surgeries will we be discussing on this forum 10 years from now? Will our bands be still in place? Will the DSers have a modified new DS? Will the RNY still be the gold standard in the U.S. I'm not looking to start a debate about weight loss surgery methods or inspire negativity or drama. Just posing a straight up question to look 10 years into the future. As you can imange 10 years ago, we were discussing phen-fen and had no idea what a RNY or a DS or a VSG or a gastric band was! So 10 years from now guys, what do ya think? Will peple have gastric stimulators, a revised TOGA procedure via endoscopy, biodegradable bands (yes, gastric bands that do their job and break down in the body with no surgery), brain electrodes to lose weight (like recently featured on Oprah), a weight loss pill. I am not a medical person but I love to discuss technology. So chime in everyone. What new wl technolgy will we be discussing 10 years from now on the OH boards? By the way, I am filled to 6cc in a 4cc band and I have little restriction. I do like my band and am not thinking about a revision. I'm happy with my 60 pond weight loss and will try to lose 60 pounds in a year's time. ALL the best, Angel Banded July 2004 Drs. Ortiz/Martinez Tijuana,Mexico band filled 6cc in 4cc (band still in good position but little restriction) cannot get any more fills--band full 260 starting weight 250 surgery weight 200 plus or minus 5 pounds current weight 50 percent weight loss goal weight 135-140
