    Frustrated

Hello all, I was banded on the 8th, and maybe I'm being a bit of drama queen, but I'm just grumpy today, so I decided to vent. Apparently, I developed an allergy to milk. At first, I thought it was just an intolerance (I got gassy, nauseous, etc. when I had part of a milk-based Protein shake) and then today, I had a PureProtein shake and I actually broke out into hives (this was the only thing I had) ... I've been back at work for all of two days, I'm tired, I have no energy and I'm completely sick of drinking Protein Shakes (egg-white based or soy for that matter) ... I want to chew something! So in my little pique of rage, I scrambled some egg whites together softly and chewed really, really well ... they have stayed down for several hours, but my conscience (perhaps self preservation?) has kicked in and I'm worried I did something wrong. I'm supposed to be on 3 weeks of protein shakes, and pureed Soup. Any thoughts? Thanks much ...
  2. Ok fellow bandsters. So I was banded on June 16 of this year. It took me awhile to actually start losing weight but once I started it was coming off pretty easily. I've lost almost 30 pounds and am quite pleased with myself for that. However, I've been fluctuating between the same two pounds for the past month. I'm at the weight I was at for about four years before I up and gained another 30 or so. So I've lost what I put on the past year and now I can't seem to get any lower. I monitor what I eat through myfitnesspal (my username is mbcr920 if you want to add me!) and I've always been doing some form of exercise. I've really kicked it up this past week trying to bust through this plateau. I've been doing an hour of strength with my husband along with cardio. So maybe I just haven't seen the results from that yet, but mostly I'm just wondering what some of y'all do to get past them. I was going to the doctor every three weeks or so but then last time she decided I was doing well on my own (which I was) and that I could wait six weeks to see her again. So I've got two weeks until my next appointment and a goal of six pounds at least (I've lost two so far). Ugh! I'm just getting so frustrated! lol. I'm going on a cruise it about a month and was hoping to be 10 pounds lighter than I am now and I need to get past this stupid plateau! Please help

You may not be getting enough nutrition. My surgeon wouldn't approve of your diet. Once I got past the healing stage I was expected to eat a large variety of three solid meals per day. I am not to use shakes as a meal, I am not supposed to eat soft mushie foods as a meal. Feeling worn-down and tired is a huge sign that you are lacking in something. The goal is certainly to lose weight but to do it healthfully with a diet that you can follow for life. Are you able to exercise sufficiently on your diet? I think I would be too tired and dizzy to move around much if I ate like that and I was not a strenuous exerciser until very recently. I do not measure but I eat an average of 3/4 cup of food per meal. Veggies, meat and cheese added to 1/4 cup of eggbeater or 1/2 cup of Cereal with 1/4 cup of skim milk for breakfast. lunch and dinner is solid lean Protein with fresh veggies. And I have managed to lose steadily eating that way. I have had a ton of energy and felt great...Just something to consider.

    first fill in a year

First of all, you are doing amazing! Seconding other guys here, the last 20lbs or so is the hardest to lose. Sometimes you plateau, but you have to know that it's OK because it's just your body adjusting itself to the new weight. Nevertheless, you mentioned you can't eat... That's not good! Not good at all, and if that's the case, you need to contact your lap-band clinic and make an appointment ASAP. It is possible you are too tight, in which case you definitely need some Fluid taken out. Being even slightly too tight can put you at risk of stretching the pouch and even band slippage. You are definitely NOT failing at anything and definitely NOT failing the band. You are doing great! Adjustments are a part of a lap-band follow up and it is recommended that you see your surgeon at least every three months in the first year after the surgery, and at least once annually thereafter. Visiting your physician does not always mean you will get an adjustment, sometimes it's good to visit just to check on the band under X-Ray. Every bandster should remember that visiting the clinic should not only be restricted to emergencies and getting adjustments! Book an appointment with your physician at least once a year - even if you feel great. As mentioned by 2muchfun, when you lose weight it is normal to feel less restriction, so no worries there. Hope this helps. Wish you all the best.

    Dilemma....

So, the last two weeks I've been on an "unofficial" pre-op diet. Very low carb, no sweets, no alcohol :pray2:, lots of protein shakes, and small portions. It's gone very well and I've lost about 5 lbs. I start my "official" pre-op diet on Monday which will be two weeks of protein shakes and one small low carb meal. I have been considering taking this weekend to endulge in some things that I know I won't be able to have for a long time. Friday night sushi date with the DH (no holds bar on how much and what I eat) and a Saturday night "wine night" with my gal pals. I know...I know.... why don't I do both in moderation. But I kind of feel like all or nothing. Either I go to town and totally have at it, or I continue what I've been doing and go straight into my pre-op diet, surgery on 2/5, and post-op for 4 weeks after. Hmmmmmm.......what would you do?
  6. OK, I am going on day 5 of liquids of three weeks. So far i have had water, sf jello, diluted juices, and broth. Any other ideas to mix it up that worked for you? I made my family a chicken crock pot meal tonight & I strained some of the drippings & added to my boring chicken broth...yum! I also got some of the onion broth that they serve at our local hibachi/sushi place. Cant find sugar free popsicles here??? Just looking for more ideas. Thanks!

    Calorie Counting During Blended Stage?

It's true, there are many variations from one program to another. I'm also on the protein shake diet (it's very difficult) I am allowed one "real" food meal but I have just been having a protein bar instead. I'm afraid I'll eat more than I should at that meal. After surgery I will be on modified liquids for 3 weeks. That includes protein shakes, yogurt, smooth cottage cheese, strained/blended soup. Basically no lumps at all! After I go for my post op at 3 weeks out they will give me the ok to move onto stage 4. Good Luck with your surgery!! Your just 2 days ahead of me! Super excited!
  8. A lot of people can fluctuate 2-3lbs a day... So I wouldn't worry about that in a week... I was 272lb yesterday and this morning.. 275lbs. Tell her to not worry about it!

drinking with food - cereal loophole??

I have no problem at all eating cereal with skim milk. I can't eat it in the morning however but I usually have it for dinner 2 - 3 times a week. For some reason, the food/liquid combination with cereal doesn't bother me. I love the multigrain cheerios. Yum!

    Calories

Around 3 weeks, I ate more calories then I should have! I had absolutely no restriction. I tried to make healthy choices and stay under 2,000, but eating less than that was very hard!
  11. I had my surgery in Detroit, a three hour drive away. Does anyone know of a fill Dr in the Saginaw, Midland, Bay City Area, even Flint? ohh, that doesn't charge and arm and a leg too? Thanks

    My bandiversary!

Well laverymo, those are great questions. Immediately after the surgery they put you on a liquid diet to help with the healing process. You go from liquids to mushy to soft foods to regular foods. This is all within 6 weeks or so. As far as myself, I eat whatever everyone else eats except in smaller portions. I have a ton of energy and never feel food deprived because I do not allow myself to become food deprived. For instance my family and I went out to eat the other night at a steakhouse. I had a half slab of baby back ribs, a sweet potato, and a salad. I ate all my salad first which really filled me pretty good. Then I started on my ribs. I think I ate three ribs and a couple bites of the potatos but I so full it almost hurt (in a good way). I ate slow and made sure I chewed well and had no problems. This really has been pretty easy for me. I have not really had any issues. There are somethings I just cannot eat anymore but it is ok. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    First Fill In 30 Mins!!

Congrats on your first fill!! It is exciting! And my surgeon does numb the area first before doing the actual fill. I go for my next fill in 2 weeks - can't wait!!

    Does anyone else??

Well It has been three weeks since my last fill, the too tight one also, and now its too tight again, I am not having a hard time with liquids which is good, but I am not able to keep food down too well. Is this common? I mean I can barely eat about three tablespoons of solid food and that is all. On the upside, I weighed myself this morning and I weigh 160 on my home scale which is light about 3-4 lbs, so I am doing quite well, but yesterday we went to this awesome restaurant w/ some friends and all I did was play with my food because I couldn't eat any of it. When one of my friends seemed like he hadn't had enought to eat, I quickly took one of my enchiladas (chicken and spinach and feta) ,( really awesome to eat, preband of course) and put it on his plate so that I wouldn't have to explain why I hadn't eaten anything (I'm a closet bandster, to most). I don't know if this is how I want to live the rest of my life, feeling so deprived... ONce I'm at my weight, what happens, do I go get the band totally unfilled and then adjust as needed? Please tell me.

    Does anyone else??

I have been having bouts of "nausea" when I think I have over eaten a bit. But then again, I am still post op only 2 weeks.

    Stressing

Hi plm! I worry all the time about gaining weight because I feel I can eat almost anyting without problem. However, It is the choices I make that keeps the weight falling off. I eat a lot of low fat high protein, such as tuna.... I also eat fruits such as melon, apples <without the skin>. My life saver however is the South Beach Diet frozen dinners. I cant even finish a whole meal, but it keeps me full for hours! I am 3 weeks postop. I had my doctors appointment today, and I have lost a total of 38lbs! I was amazed! SOOOOOO love this band! Good luck to you! Hope this has helped some.

    First Fill In 30 Mins!!

Well, they didn't numb it, but it was only a pinch.. totally bearable. Unfortunately they only put in 2cc's. So I have a total if 2.5cc's. I was hoping for more. Oh well. My next fill is in 4 weeks!

    Suspected slipped band

Hi I have had my band for 6 years, during the first three I lost over 100 pounds and was at goal. I started to suffer with quite bad acid reflux but before I could do anything about it I fell pregnant and removed most of the Fluid (still had 4cc in 10cc band with barely any restriction) I then had another baby quite quickly afterwards. Now my youngest is 10 months old so I tried to have a small fill and the reflux is so bad! I had it taken back out again....so it's probably a suspected slip so now I have had a total unfil. My question is has resting your band for 4 to 6 weeks fixed your slip? And do you think after such a long period of time it will work for me? I have around 50 pounds to lose
  19. Absolutely yes! I have been a stomach sleeper forever, and I figured I would have to learn a new way to sleep, but I was banded on 2/28 and have no problem whatsoever on my stomach, although it took a few weeks before I did it. My doctor said it was ok. Mayra
  20. how many weeks did it take?? i am so tired LOL...you are about 2 months ahead of me but i hope you have been sleeping on your stomach for a while now?
  21. I have posted my butt pillow story elsewhere (somewhere on here!) but it might work for you. I have an old flat pillow the really should be tossed, but I keep an old pillow case on it that doesn't match AT ALL to keep it distinct from the others. It floats around under the covers and if i'm sleeping on my side, it goes between my legs. On my back, it's up under my thighs/knees. Sometimes I fall asleep on my stomach, and if so, I hike my left leg up a little over the butt pillow and take some pressure off the left port side and sleep on my tummy just fine. Just be sure to support your hip bone to get enough lift off of your port area. I was able to do that during week 3, I think. Give that, or a body pillow, a shot and you might be able to swing it now. The body pillows are too fluffy for me, so the flat one works well. Happy resting. You WILL be able to sleep on your stomach soon. ZZZZZZZZZ

    Acid Reflux - golfball feeling

Another thought - you might try drinking warm or room temp. liquids like teas or broths. For the first few weeks after I was banded, I could not tolerate cold liquids at all! It felt like everything just closed up! Good luck and keep us posted.
  23. I had my first fill this week too and was VERY tired all week. I fell asleep on the couch watching tv every night by 9:30 (some nights by 8:00) and had to just get up and go to bed. I didn't know what was causing it but I did forget to take my flinstones a few days and thought that might be it.
  24. the girls at work decided to do Chinese yesterday. I hadn't done a lunch with the girls in over 2 months so I decided to join in and got sesame chicken. I ate it with no problem. No sliming. No PB. But about an hour later. OH MY GOD. My tummy hurt so bad. this was at noon. By midnight I was still in pain. I didn't feel "stuck". I was able to sip water and sipped some cream soup at dinner. I thought the warmth would help. It was soothing, but it didn't go away. I woke up this morning and still had a bit of a tummy ache until I went to the bathroom:redface:. Then I felt better. I skipped breakfast and just had a few sips of slim fast. At lunch I ate my usual. It didn't "hurt" but was uncomfortable. I was filled for the first time 3 weeks ago. It suddenly dawned on me. could the sesame seeds lodged themselves in the band area or something? I didn't even think about it. I've NEVER had any problem eating Chinese food, so it has to be band related. What happened? Could I only now be experiencing some restriction?
  25. Hi there, here is my story and I am very open to ideas: I am back at 1 1/2 yrs out. lost 45lbs, had major back surgery in January so 6 months of no or little exercise. Thank goodnes for the band. I had a weird problem. I think I need to have a little taken out of the band but I am scared. If I eat three hours before bed and it is not practically liquid, I wake up choking. I try real hard not to do that.I am now really aware of what I am eating, definatly Protein. I cannot eat in the early morn so I have a warm Protein Drink, the warmth seems to open the band. If I have some removed I am worried that I will be able to get too much in. I finally got filled to what I felt was the right amount. I just hate choking and figure it is really a must to pay attention and not eat meat that is not ground, or anything too heavy at dinner. I have stayed at this weight, otherwise without the band and a surgery( had 7 knee replacement revision in 5 years) why I gained so much, I would surely have gained again. I have not read of anyone being maybe overfilled and choking and or coughing during the night..... It does not happen if I am very aware of dinner and lots of Water, but I would love to hear if anyone has had this... ??? Info would be great. Debra
