So eating 700 calories a day, one is creating a calorie deficit of 7K calories per week, if their maintenance is around 1700 cal/day. That sounds about right depending how fast your metabolism or activity. If one wants to eat more then they have to burn 500 to 1000 calories more a day instead. For me to lose 2 lb/wk, without any additional exercise, I have to eat about 700 cal/day too.

Freaking out about pre-op testing not done yet
Michelle2022 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I’m in the pre-op phase for gastric bypass and am freaking out because I thought my pre-op appt was next Wednesday (1 week before my surgery) but it is this Wednesday. I still have to get my ekg and X-ray done and have the results for that appointment or I may have to reschedule my surgery. How long will it take to get my results to the surgeon’s office if I can somehow miraculously get the tests done tomorrow? Anyone have ideas of how to get the results quicker? Thanks! -
Way to go, man! Beware of the stalls, they'll mess with your head a lil bit, but just take it in stride and trust the progress!

I do of course realize that scales only measure a specific point in time. And I also of course realize that I shouldn't obsess over a number on a scale or weigh myself multiple times a day. That being said . . . How is it that at 4:30 am I can weigh one thing, then at 6:30 am be 1 pound lighter, than at 8:00 am be 1/2 pound heavier even if I haven't eaten or drank anything? Plus don't even get me started on weighing after a bowel movement . . . my weight actually goes UP! How is that possible? I WANT to weigh just once a week, but I find myself checking the scale every morning as soon as I wake up. Just venting . Anybody else want to throw their scale through the window?😁

I've just come back to these forums and caught up with your progress. I too am refocusing and starting over. Well, not from scratch, but back to the basics. I started back to the gym on Nov. 22nd and have been 36 out of 41 days since then doing 45-minutes to an hour a day. I started Weight Watchers 3 weeks ago and am actively tracking food and water intake. We can do this!!!!

Oh that's a GREAT goal. I too love to cruise and have 5 planned for 2022 (some of them are make-ups for 2020 covid cancellations) and as anyone who has cruised knows, traveling is not for the timid or out of shape! 😁 I started back to the gym 5 weeks ago to prepare for my June European River Cruise on the Danube, which will entail a LOT of walking on excursions to explore those fabulous cities.

2 pounds a week is very sustainable and a good way to ensure the weight will stay off. Your calories sound right in line. I'd be happy with 2 pounds a week. Way to go!

November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
New Year's day - About a month post-Op and I am at 192. So about 18 pounds down since the surgery. Ofc there was a stall of about 3 weeks. Hoping no more stalls. And even if there are, not too long of a stall 😔🙏 -
So looking at the bright side of having covid, it's brought me out of the stall I was having. Every cloud and all that!

I've tried the adventure fit, I HATED the lifting your knees part - wonder if I'll be any better at it now?? I think I had it on easy too 😎 That is an incredible loss, well done you. Food regrets.. not being able to eat as much as you want and then be in food coma the rest of the day - however I found a solution, I ate everything I would normally eat in the 1-2 days over the course of a week. Small bit of steak here, different type of potato salad everyday (my tummy doesn't like potatoes but it's my favourite food, so a mouthful every other hour mwahaha..) Happy New Year

That's amazing you haven't had any reactions to food, I'm so happy for you! I use to have a protien shake every morning for breakfast but 1. they are starting to make me nauseous (I think the smell not the taste) and 2. I can be lazy haha. Since it's summer where I live the last two weeks or so I have mostly been eating salad based meals. Not much protien which I know is naughty but I tell myself I get enough in all the cheese I eat 🤣. I have quite a few foods that my body no longer tolerates. one is the curried eggs that we only ever get made for us on Christmas day! last year I ate a dozen easy over two days, this year I ate half of one and felt terrible afterwards! Booooo very sad no more eggs. Ah well Oh and congratz on the weight loss! Slow but steady and as long as your not gaining in my eyes is a win!!

I agree at 7 weeks out I can’t imagine what kind of pain you’re experiencing. I was able to take pills from the 2nd day like many others here.

I had mini bypass on November 25th. So I’m 5 weeks post op. SW 237, CW 217. I’m around 600-700 calories a day and only losing 2 pounds a week for the last 3 weeks. Is this normal?

Do You loose weight slower
Neubian60466 replied to Neubian60466's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
At least your surgeon told you I had to do my own research. Post surgery I came hime from the hospital heavy than I went in and in 2 weeks I had lost almost 25lbs then the 3rd, 4th, 5th no weight loss then the 6th week it started back REALLY slow I’m up to 35lb weight loss was expecting a lot more by now. I’ll keep an eye on it the next couple of weeks if nothing changes I’ll be speaking with my surgeon and my nutritionist immediately! Good luck your just getting started so don’t get discouraged -
The possible dehydration is a concern. Go to your nearest hospital or medical centre as you may need some IV fluids. As @ShoppGirl said getting IV fluids isn’t a big deal but being dehydrated is. It takes a good week for the gas they used to inflate your abdomen during surgery to escape. You’ll probably notice discomfort in your shoulder - a sign the gas is slowly dissipating. Walking, even around your home, is the best treatment besides GasX. Difficulty with swallowing is from post surgical swelling. It improves a lot after a few days. I found warm liquids more soothing too like @Lindsayleigh86. Make sure you’re sipping slowly as well to avoid taking in more gas and no carbonated liquids. If you’re lactose intolerant, watch the protein shakes when you start them as many are based on lactose. Are lots of lactose free ones available but you may have to look about to find the right ones for you. Plenty of lactose free yoghurts, milk, cheese etc available too for when you’re ready. It’s a pretty major surgery & it takes a while for you to fully heal & recover. Plus it’s a huge change to your life & everything is new & different. So it’s ok to have doubts. It does get better.

Do You loose weight slower
MelanatedQueen replied to Neubian60466's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’ve heard the same thing. My surgeon said because our body has gone thru a weight loss surgery before, so it knows what to expect. I’m trying to remain positive and force myself to be more active in hopes it won’t be true. I’m almost two weeks post op and lost 16 lbs since surgery. I’m sure it’s mostly water weight since I’m still on liquids. -

Post op - Liquid Only - Suggestions?
Fl_Dad replied to CowboyKurt's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations! Our plans sound a bit different so don't go outside your team's guidelines, but here is the info I was provided for the 2 weeks. 1 word of advice, start pushing hard to get the water in by little sips from a shot glass every day. It will take alot of effort. I downloaded a water timer and had it going off every few minutes. That will pay in dividends in 2 weeks when you can't chug water (if you are in Habit of chugging water. I'm really talking about me. Lol.) Good luck and you've got this! -
I never have that full feeling. I am 5 weeks out and food doesn't bother me. I just ate 1/2 cup chicken salad. No problems. This frightens me! I am trying to eat foods for protein not just smoothie with protein powder in it. Advise please. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

No Pre-OP Diet?
MistySkye replied to Slimming_Santos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No pre-op other than clear fluids for two days before. They did suggest stopping caffeine prior to surgery. So I did that about a week before. I think starting weight can play in too it as the Clinic I went to does have patients do Optifast, but I did not have to. My starting BMI was just above 36. -
How long from consult to surgery?
MistySkye replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Would have been 5 weeks from the date I contacted the clinic. But due to Covid surge canceling all elective surgeries where I went, it was 9 weeks. -

Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op
GradyCat replied to GiGi 1970's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY hits the infamous Week 3 (sometimes Week 4) Stall and yes it can last several weeks but it's perfectly normal. While frustrating, it's to be expected. Just keep doing what you're supposed to be doing, getting in the protein and the water, and the weight loss will come. I promise. -
Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op
GradyCat replied to GiGi 1970's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are perfectly on track. Don't rush the process. The surgery is a tool but not an instant fix. And there will be a stall in Week 3 or 4, everybody gets it, so don't think you're getting too many calories or have done something wrong. Trust the process and take it slowly. -
A couple of weeks ago I got sick, probably a stomach virus, but I had been having gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea) on a different diet, that I'm going to post about later, so I decided to give Weight Watchers a try. I didn't realize that they have just revamped their program and released a new iteration of it in November 2021, so my timing was pretty good to start the new program. It's taken a couple of weeks for my body to adjust after reintroducing carbs again, but I'm starting to lose weight now. I did WW way back in 2006 or so and was successful, so I thought I'd try it again. PROS: well-balanced meals without restricting certain foods, easy-to-follow, easy tracking system for daily points, allows flexibility On this new version, Personal Points, you take an assessment online and it asks you if you're diabetic, what types of foods you typically like to eat, what your rate of activity, is and it calculates both your daily allotment of food "points" as well as generates your own personal list of "zero point" foods. So my list of zero points may not be the same as yours. On my list, I can count eggs, grilled chicken, corn, and of course non-starchy green vegetables as zero points. I like the bar code scanner that scans grocery store packages and converts it into points for you and also they've got just about every restaurant imaginable in their database with associated point values. Is anybody else here doing Weight Watchers? I'll keep you posted on my progress.
