That"s great! I was very anxious at that point. I have to say, I am now 4 weeks out and this week was the first where I felt 0 regrets and feel like my old self but even better.

Sipping one or two ounces every 15 minutes!!
focusonthefuture replied to gomezk2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dietician said cup in an hour, no speed recommendation other than start off slowly. I can do about three ounces at a time (but I know when I get to soft/regular food, that volume will be impossible). Post op 7/25 -

My bariatric team has been reviewing my chart for nearly 2 weeks. I emailed my patient coordinator asking how long it normally takes for them to review it. She messaged me back saying there is no time limit. How long did it take your team to review and approve your chart so it can be sent to your insurance?

No regrets whatsoever for me!!! And nothing for me was really the "worse part." I could have been released the day after surgery, but my program called for 2 nights hospital stay. If there was a "worse part" it would have been in the first 10 hours or so after surgery when rolling over and sitting up was uncomfortable. But all the walking I did after surgery really helped me with that. Everybody is different. My first week was a snap and it has been ever since. I've been really lucky! Maybe you will be too. Here's the best advice I can give... Be prepared for stalls in weight loss. They will happen soon and more times than you'd hope. Celebrate the little victories of a pound here and a pound there. You're not on the game show The Biggest Loser and your weight isn't going to melt off. Don't let the scale rule your life. I weigh in once a week, but I know some people who only weigh in at their monthly or quarterly doctor's checkup. Judge your weight loss by how loose your clothes get, how slim your face looks, and how much energy you have once you've hit your sleeve weight-loss stride. Good luck and take care.

Congratulations on your success. I'm just three months out and down 53. I look forward to when I can talk about being 11 months out and looking as good as you do.

Just to clarify, food restriction can mean two different things. 1. The actual quantity of food you are able to eat. This restriction gradually eases over a couple years, but you will never be able to eat as much as you did preop. (It is usually stated that you'll be able to eat a cup of food long term.. but depending on what it is, I can do that already! 12 weeks post op) 2. The dietary restriction during the first 8 weeks post op that says you can't just eat anything. Once you are 9 weeks post op, according to most surgeons, you are released to eat whatever you want. Not everything will necessarily agree with you, but you are allowed to try. I was talking about restriction #2. It is awful nice when you are released to try anything, because going to restaurants and joining the family or friends at mealtime is so important for our psychological well-being. Do we have to be "on a diet" forever? Yes, most of us do. But the occasional bite of something off-diet is also part of living a full life. -
Once you start on solids, usually around the 5 week mark, You should be trying your best to get your protein from food, not shakes. My surgeon was very persistent with this and I'm so glad he was. As long ad you can tolerate chicken, Tina, fish etc I say go for it and only have a shake if needed. It really helps with getting your sleeve used to more and different foods as well.

Congratulations on being banded. I'm just curious to know why are you eating solid food at only 4 days post op? You should still be on liquids for like two weeks. Then mushies for a week or two and then solid foods. You are still in the healing process and should not be placing that kind of pressure to your insides so soon.

I was sleeved June 30th and I have been at a stall fluctuating 2 lbs up and then 2 lbs down. I dont hardly eat and I make healthy choices. I just got my period after 2 mths. I'm starting to get really discouraged. I think I am going to start doing 2 shakes for breakfast and lunch, have the p3 protein snacks, and have a real dinner and see what that does. My highest weight was 294, starting weight right before surgery 288, and current weight is 265. I'm 5 ft 7 in

Hospital Visit / Follow Up to My Jan 28th Post

It was a mix of sinus infection, not eating/drinking as much as I should have, and being completely off my bipolar medication and being in a downward depressive cycle. And thank you! I go back to work on Monday for half days and then back to full time the week after. I’m happy to have routine back. -
My sleeve date approaches quickly!! I've been on hear reading and noting things to do, not to do, things to eat. I'm most nervous about understanding my new routine, but I know it will all come together. Can't thank everyone on her enough for sharing your stories. They've helped me so much!!!

I'm nearly 6 weeks out and starting to add new foods to my diet. I had a moment of weakness and had key lime pie for the first time in months. Let me tell you I paid for it! It was so good but I couldn't handle the diarrhea that followed. I know it's a learning process but I'm curious to how long I have to wait before trying foods that upset my stomach again. Any thoughts? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I didn't tell my husband or my family that I was having surgery until 2 weeks before. I did not want any opinions or negativity. It was my decision for my body. We were told in one of the pre surgery classes the less people you tell the better off you are. Everyone will not be happy for you especially if they are overweight. Some will say "you took the easy way out". Ha! This is not easy. Now my husband is so happy with his "new" wife and my kids are so proud of their "new" mother. I am having sooo much fun shopping for smaller younger looking clothes. This surgery is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Prayers for you that once your surgery is over your relationship with your husband will improve. He maybe afraid or just feeling insecure. Hang in there. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Unfortunately I still don't have good news to report! I am so aggravated- I controlled myself and waited to contact Cigna to see if they had finished their review and they told me that my surgery has been denied because they haven't recvd the paperwork showing I have had 6 months of a physician supervised diet nor did they recv a letter of neccessity from a dr other than the surgeon. WTH! What in the world is my case worker even doing? I have tried getting a hold of her since Friday, left a message a few times and she hasnt even called me back? I'm so infuriated, after all the work I've done to get to this point and due to the incompetence of my case worker I'm sitting here on pins and needles just waiting. I tend to be a perfectionist in alot of matters and I have a complete intolerance to people who don't do what they are supposed to do. I wanted know complications with the paperwork so I reviewed Cigna's requirements numerous times to make sure that I completed every single thing that is required and because the case worker did not send it I'm sitting here with another 2 weeks wasted waiting! Does any one know If I can send documentation directly to the insurance company or am I totally dependent upon my surgeons office making sure they get everything sent in?

First, let me say that I am extremely grateful to my new sleeve for giving me a chance at controlling my weight. Yet, I feel all I do is time out my day...water, protein, water, protein.....repeat, repeat, repeat. I seem to get both in about 4-5 days a week but just can't make it all 7 days. I am 11 weeks post-op and I guess I figured it would get easier. I am a teacher and don't always have the time to get water in when I teach for 4 hours before my first break. It is something I need to learn to deal with better. I have seen great results...44 pounds lost post-op and 64 pounds overall. I would gladly welcome any secrets any of you may have.

Anyone else having tightness in their legs? It's not really a muscle cramp because it doesn't come and go, it's like a constant feeling of tension. It's mostly in my calves. As of yesterday I have a "stitch" in my side too. I'm two weeks post op.

I was sleeved the 9th and that first week was the worst.. things do get a lot easier the second week! Good luck! Paul12677

On Tuesday, my supervisor is taking my coworkers and I out for a holiday lunch at a Mexican restaurant! I literally am freaking out about this! It will be my 1st time going out to eat, I will be on soft foods for only the 2nd day, I will be with my boss, yikes! Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Three month mark and lost 42 pounds!!
Musicman00 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is my first time posting on here..I had my surgery on December 11th. I started my journey at 417 pounds. The surgery itself went very well. I spent the night in the hospital and went home the next day. I had minimal challenges after the surgery itself. I did the liquid diet for a week, then the blended food, etc. My only difficulty that I have is first thing in the morning I have a hard time drinking Water when I first wake up. Having a C-PAP machine I tend to be quite parched when I wake up. I was told that there is a build up of mucus and it's usually best to drink warm liquid first thing in the morning to break that up. I'm usually not a warm liquid drinker but it's helped. Since the surgery I've had 2 fills. The first fill was challenging in the first week but after that I was eating normally but my intake was a lot less. When I got my second fill last week I've noticed it to be more challenging to eat. I've had more foods getting stuck than in the past. I've learned that I have to make sure I really cut my food smaller. (especially steak) I've been able to tolerate a soda from time to time. I pour it in a cup and stir out the carbonation and I've had no issues with it. I know that I should avoid it not only because of the carbonation but for the sugar as well. Once in a while I've just gotta have one. I'm tolerating alcohol pretty well. I haven't had a beer yet but I've been doing mixed drinks and I haven't had any issues. I haven't really exercised that much other than walking further in the parking lot to the store because I intentionally park further away. So far since I've started I've lost 42 pounds!!! My pants are falling off my butt...shirts are getting big. I'm loving it!! I want to lose another 10-15 pounds before mid May so I can go to Six Flags and hopefully fit on a roller coaster again and ride with my kids!! My goal weight is 260 and I know I can get down to that. -
6 months post sleeve and need help!
joatsaint replied to Kimberlee1383837812's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm right there with ya. I go through the same thing about once a month or 6 weeks. I'll just bounce up and down 1 or 2 lbs for about 10 days before the weight starts creeping down again. I just stick with my exercise and diet. It worked before the stall and if I stick with it, it will work again. -
I am like 99% sure your dietitian is wrong. My surgeon said leaks will happen rarely and if they do, it will be in the following weeks after having the surgery. He made no mention of it being something to worry over for the rest of your life. And the idea that you could actually stuff enough food into your stomach to cause a leak let alone stretch the stomach (another one I see frequently on here) is pretty much impossible unless you like forcing food to the point of feeling like you're going to explode. You'd feel horrible way before you got to the bursting point, and you'd be vomiting up quite a bit of food so yeah, not likely to happen. Seriously, this is so small a likelihood, I'd actually discuss what the dietitian is telling you with your surgeon ASAP so they can reassure you, and also correct the dietitian from spreading this kind of false information.
