  1. 1) Never had this problem. The "sippy" phase is right after surgery and only lasts about 1-2 weeks. My doctor's notes say you should be able to drink 16 oz in an hour right after surgery, but for me, I had to concentrate to do that. Around week 10 or so, I was able to drink normally and get in my 20 ounces in an hour taking my sweet time. I could probably go faster but I am not a big drinker. I drink 60-80 ounces a day now. 2) You won't have room to drink/eat if you are eating dense Protein. Now crunchy naughty carby stuff, yeah you can drink and eat, but you don't want to get into that habit. If you chew all of your food properly and eat at an appropriate rate, you don't need to wash the food down. It goes down on its own. 3) Try finding a Protein shake now because you will be needing them for the first few months. You can do protein chicken Soups or at protein to your regular foods but I found the protein supplements to not be unflavored and just gross. It's easier to drink a premiere protein for Breakfast for me. You will probably need some kind of supplement until you can get your protein and calories counts up high enough to get your full amount of protein in. I'm 6 months out and drinking shakes for breakfast. It's just easier for me and I don't mind the taste.
  2. I am new to and supposed to have this surgery 10-24-13. I would love to have all those answers too. I did a post asking what the best flavor protein drink there is for flavor the one that several people liked was called Premier and you can get samples. Unjury was another and I have tried it and it was shockingly good to me and I HATE healthy anything (I could have write your post lol). They also have a Chicken Soup flavor that several people liked. I called Unjury and ordered a sample pack of all 5 flavored they have. I do know you will be on a liquid diet before and after for almost 6-8 WEEKS which I'm told is the hardest part... But once that is over it seems to he worth it. Also there are water based protein drinks if you don't want them think. My friend did sleeve lust 75 in a year and is maintaining. She said if you go to a GNC health food vitamin store tell them you are looking for protein drinks they are they only store that will let you return it if you don't like the flavor!!! And that is great because they are not cheap so that should really help you out trying to find what works for you. I hope that helps good luck to you!!!
  3. I have went through all of my dietician and pysch appointments. Did you have to send in paper work before your first app I did maybe that is how they figure what you have to pay. I have not had to pay a penny.Yes it does take about three monthes. I was suppose to have my surgery today but it was delayed because of something they found in a ct scan. I will get my new date Wed.Probably about three more weeks.
  4. Hi All- Just in the early exploration stages right now, and as you can see from my username, I'm a coffee person. I want to know what kind of experiences VSG'ers have had with coffee after the procedure. I'm in the coffee business, so not drinking it is out of the question. I generally drink 3-4 120z cups a day. Usually 2 of them black, and 2 with half/half. I really don't drink milk drinks like lattes, mochas, etc. I kinda HAVE to drink it for tasting and roast quality control.. Thanks in advance, J.
  5. I am in a bit of a quandry and would love some insight from those of you who have already had your surgery. Here's my situation... I am currently pre-op, surgery will likely be scheduled for late March/early April. I have been contemplating surgery for years and finally made a decision and I feel really good about it. Work has been awful lately. I'm bored with what I'm doing, I have a frustrating boss, etc. So the surgery (and the subsequent FML) was coming at a great time to get a little break from the monotony. This week, however, a promotional opportunity presented itself. A very exciting opportunity that would boost my career in all the right directions. The one catch is that I can't do both right now. If I go for the job opportunity, I have to postpone the surgery probably 6 months. i'm really struggling because I am at a point where I want to take care of ME and move forward with the surgery. But this job opportunity is just the thing I've been waiting for and I've got a decent chance at it. I wanted to throw this out to this community to see what your thoughts are. For those of you have already have had the surgery, knowing what you know now, what would you have done? Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Me too. My surgery is 3/12. I'm so excited and so scared at the same time :/
  7. Today marks exactly one year since I started my preop diet and I was reminded of all the wonderful things I've learned from this site so I thought I'd share a few. 1. Never knew about the 3 week stall until I read it on here. 2. salad Bar-Someone else had posted this tip. I now go to the Salad bar at Safeway right down the street from my house and load up the container with all sorts of veggies and do not add any dressing. Then for the week I just use my precut veggies out of my box. I waste so much less and it's super easy. 3.Powercrunch bars...they are my favorite. 4.Genepro unflavored Protein. Love this stuff heard of a new one called Piping rock that I will try when I run out of GENEPRO. 5.If you stall keep measuring as you're probably losing inches 6.Healthy options at fast food places, recipes, snack ideas And now I've ordered a new moisturizer cream. So much wonderful information on here. I am sure there is more that I am forgetting. How about the rest of you what have you found to be the most helpful? ~LA

    So disappointed....

It can be all over the place, but one thing it is not, is linear. I've lost four pounds in three days, and then one pound for the following week. I have to resist the temptation to get on the scale. This is long term. At least, I hope it is. I would hate to have gone through all this and given up all the good food and then get hit by a truck.
  9. everyone heals at a different rate. 1-2 weeks would be completely normal. you should feel a little better everyday it is a gradual improvement. Walk as much as you can it is the driver of the healing process. the less you walk the longer it takes.
  10. I am less than 3 weeks from my surgery date, I start on the 15 day liquid diet on Friday. Over the past couple days I have been going on a farewell tour of my favorite foods I am saying goodbye to after our long and intimate time together. Yesterday I used the Cheesecake Factory gift card I got for Christmas and tomorrow my mom is taking me to my favorite pizza joint for one last Chicago style thin crust sausage pizza. She is a little happy she no longer has to share pizza with me, she hasn't had a middle square in decades (Chicago thin crust is cut into squares, known as a party cut). My weekday lunch time routine of going out to a local fast food joint will soon be replaced with a brisk walk at the gym or outside around my workplace. If I get really industrious I will go down to the nearby ice rink and skate through my lunch period. Change has come to my life. Welcome change, very necessary change. Change to bigger things with a smaller waistline.

I'm eating like a prisoner on death row

I I'm in day 3 of the pre op diet. I wished I had spent a few days detoxing off diet coke before I started this. I think the crash from no caffeine was worse than the no food thing...... My advice to anyone beginning the pre op diet is get off the caffeine 1st. Even if only a couple days of no caffeine, would have helped me. quote name="CubsWinCubsWin" post="3358791" timestamp="1392050964"]I am less than 3 weeks from my surgery date, I start on the 15 day liquid diet on Friday. Waiting on ONEDERLAND!

It finally happened!!! After two weeks of floating between 202 and 205, I stepped on the scale today and it read 199.4 ???????????????? I was so excited!!! Gone are the 200s never to be seen again
  13. my surgeon told me that after my revision, as I was at goal weight with a slipped band everything is great now except that I loved the restriction feeling as I don't have that anymore, I'm only 8 weeks out and I'm looking forward to restriction in future possibly January I've been told.
  14. The same thing happened to me. I lost 85 pounds with the band and has managed to keep it off. I had my sleeve 10 months ago and have lost no weight. I have gained no pounds so that is good. I think I have some restriction now so I am trying to get all my protein and water in now. I have lost 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I have only felt the restriction about 4 weeks, I am trying to work harder at my workout now so we will see
  15. So I have been drinking nothing but water and apple juice for a little over a week now and have only lost one pound. ONE POUND. I know these miracles I've been praying for don't happen overnight but jeesh! But hey losing one is better than gaining one!

I totally understand. I rushed to get pre-pre-op clearances this summer and I realize now that I was a bit delusional in thinking I would be able to get everything approved and done in time to have surgery to go back to school, between August 12 and September 1st. It didn't happen., and now I have to wait until my next school break. I'm still not even approved, but at least I finally have a surgery date (12/23). In the last few weeks, I have been noticing a shift in my thinking, so I'm feeling ok and possibly even thankful about the delay. Good luck with your process. Have faith things will work out for the better. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  17. I have been disappointed in my sleeve. I loss 85 pounds with the band. I had a slippage and a leak and since my insurance wouldn't pay for a replacement or sleeve, I elected to go to Mexico for a sleeve and pay cash. That was in January 2014. Initially I wasn't exercising at all. In I started working out with a personal trainer three times a week. I am now doing cardio 3-4 times a week. I have recently been in touch with Dr staff in Mexico. I sent a food diary and they feel not eating enough calories. I need to increase by 350 calories per. I talked to them after a week. I gained 4 pounds but think related to mostly carbs with. I am again doing the diary with fewer carbs, more protein and water and see what happens. Will also talk to the doctor. They are telling me my body think starvation mode and is holding on to the weight. I was averaging about 500-600 calories per day

  19. Met with the bariatric psychologist. Found out that since the dosage of one of my depression meds had been changed recently, I have to be stable for 3 months. Frustrating. The second week of November is 3 months. Also my regular psychologist and therapist put in my chart that I needed to return to group theraphy. I went for 8 months. Been there done that. Explained to the Bariatric psychologist the reasons I stopped and that I am continuing my personal therapy sessions. She decided to require that I attend 6 classes that are once a week. Happy. Met with the sugeon. I am having the sleeve. I have to lose 10#'s. Happy. Met with the nutritionist I am on 1200 calorie diet. My two week pre-op diet consists of lean Proteins and Clear liquids. Happy The surgeon told me that from the time I finish all the above requirements that surgery would be scheduled one to two weeks later. Oh My Gosh. This is really going to happen. Freaking out. I AM OVERWEIGHT!

I kept on my plan. After about 10 days of stall, I deliberately changed my intake for 4 straight days. I ate extra calories (up to 1100, when I normally eat 600 to 800) and carbs (purposely ate over 60 grams when I am normally well below 50 grams) because I'd heard lots of folks did something similar to break their stalls. It did not work for me. After those 4 days I went back to my regular diet and a couple days later the loss picked up again. My body simply needed that time to readjust. I knew that was the case, but I was scared that I was "different" and I was suddenly done losing. Long story short, stick to your plan and give your body a good few weeks to adjust to the massive changes! You will begin losing again in time!

    First week

For me Isopure clear liquid protein drink was the best way to get my protein its 40 grms of protein per bottle, also sugar free jello. Another thing I do is whisk up the jello when its liuid with low carb, low fat evaporated milk and let set makes it a little more tasty then reg jello. Have been on mainly clears and some soups for 10 days, start mushy next week , so far down 11lb since banding on 12/15 Good luck its not too bad

I'm stalled now and keep stalling. I lose 2lbs and stall for 4 weeks. It's getting frustrating. I had surgery April 2 and am down 62lbs. Nothing breaks my stalls.
