Hi everyone. My name is Stacy, I am 34 years old and I was just approved for surgery on November 5th. My date is January 2, 2019. This was my third time trying for surgery. The first time I weighed 427 lbs. I barely lost any weight during my 6 months doctor supervised visits so I was denied. Discouraged but determined to show them I could do it, I counted calories and excised and went from 427 down to 202 lbs. The irony was the "healthier" i became, the sicker I got. I dealt with continual heart issues giving me symptoms of heart attacks without the blockages... one attack happened while on the treadmill and landed me in the hospital for 2 weeks. I continued my diet and exercise until the final episode landed me in the hospital yet again and they finally found out/assumed my arteries were constricting from stress...which was probably from all the missed work... and they put me on medicine. My gallbladder decided to check out at this point... but not before going out with a bang--I was in the hospital another 2 weeks because my pancreas and liver were inflamed... after the gallbladder removal the weight loss got harder and the pounds started packing on. I was afraid to exercise and miss more work--so I started walking. Because I wasn't getting the rush I normally did from exercise my depression came back full force. I slept the day away any chance I got... I'd eat my calories one day, the next hardly touch food, and the following day, I'd eat garbage. My choices were terrible. Terrified that I would go back to my old weight I tried a second time for surgery--the entire process I battled depression and diets--trying to find what would work and give me the success calorie counting did. Instead I gained--at this point I was denied a 2nd time. My weight, 350 lbs. Something happened where I made the decision to buckle down... and from October of last year (when I was denied) until March of this year, I lost 15 lbs. I worked hard to see the scale move. It wasn't until April that I read about low carb--most of the foods I couldn't eat anyways because they made me sick--like bread and sugars--so I went for it. When my doctor saw my progress she said--whatever you're doing is working! Try one more time--I think you'd get it! I had no faith in being approved and I said if I was denied again, I'd stop...and take it as a sign. Since starting low carb I've lost an additional 58 lbs for a total of 73. I have my appointment with my dietitian on December 5th, pre-op appointment is December 12th and Upper GI is December 19th. This is also the same day I start my 2 week pre-op liver shrink diet. I do have some before and current pictures in my gallery and what I look like currently... I am having anxiety about it all... and a lot of people are saying I don't need it done... I look fine... I kinda wish I would have taken the route where I didn't say anything to anyone. Thanks for reading ❤️

Thanks guys! This is Smurf's wife. They wheeled him back at 10 after 7 and he was discharged to come home before 11:45am! The doc said he did great! He's got some upper back pain (he said it feels like he needs to crack his back, but can't), incisions are tender, and he can't stop belching, but otherwise he's good. I stuck some pictures out on his instagram (chunky2hunkysmurf 😂🤣) For him to get discharged he had to walk twice down the long hallway, drink 8 - 2oz things of water, be able to pee, and have a pain level of less than 5 (out of 10). Be sure you bring a thin pillow to put between you and the seatbelt on the way home!

This is Smurf's wife... they wheeled him back at 10 after 7 this morning, and he was discharged before 11:45am. He has some pretty bad upper back pain. He said it feels like he needs to crack his back, but can't. Walking and hydrocodone helped. LOL (When I asked if he had buyer's remorse he said, "yes, i'd rather just stay fat!") The incision sites are a little tender, and LOTS of belching, but otherwise i think he's okay. If I had to guess he'll be feeling more like himself in 2 or 3 days max.

November Bypassers!!
GettinSkinnywithit replied to mousecat88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery yesterday and doing better today. Last night sucked. Couldn’t sleep at all. I think I slept for an hour then no more then 5-10 minutes. Every time I’d fall asleep my o2 levels dropped and the alarm would jolt me awake. Barium swallow this morning showed no issues so reward is ice chips - so good after going 36 hours nothing to drink. Bring petroleum free chap stick! Life saver those hours. Good luck to future November bypassers! -
30 BMI sleever / hiatal hernia repair 2 stitches
Missmiarose posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved and had my hernia repair on sept 19. So im about 7 weeks out. Started at 180lbs. Now at 139. I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration. After an X-ray with barium showed my swallowing is normal. I was sent home. My surgeon is in Vegas. And I live in Reno. i feel like I can’t swallow. It is so painful. Even just water. I’m so thirsty. But simply can not get it down. When I do, I lay in pain for about an hour. As happy as I am with the results, I can’t live like this. Why does it hurt so bad? I did liquid diet. Tried to move to soft foods. And everything just hurts. I use gas x. Heartburn meds on occasion. Just to see if anything will help this feeling. Is anyone else struggling like me? What did you do? How long did it take for you? -

Another post-op poop question. :)

💩-amentary here. Tried to cutting back to 1 Miralax daily, if your team says 2, do 2. This Am I awoke to flatus, of such a degree Tomkitten said" What was THAT sound?" Silly rabbitt🐰you should know by now So I marched into the Chamber of the Porcelain throne there to await occurrences. Such occurrences were not forthcoming, oh I tried, I said "Rectal muscles- Wakey Wakey!" They yawned out 1 puff of foetus and there I set and set. Oh I could feel the stool sitting right inside the opening. If it had a face , it would haven been smirking. No fleet enema , I was sent a mental message - Colin responded with Message unaccepted- please rephrase and resend! So i, and I shudder to relate this, greased the opening with Vaseline and then summoned all abdominal muscles not busy doing something else, 1-2-3- PUSH PUSH PUSH, And Finally it popped and plopped, a little more vigorous shoving and relief was obtained . But back to the 2 times daily, M.O.M. evening of second day, I might as well resign myself to the fact I shall not have spontaeous 💩for a long time. And I am a 10 week old RnY with structure issues, and a puny liquid diet. By far NOT average, average is as close to inferior as it is to superior, and I fancy myself as superior, worthy of glory , praise and wonderment. Too many years of second string, second-rate, some man's slave/flunky/wife. Now Frustr8 shines clearly, brightly and with her own Star Power!🌟Twinkle Twinkle Frustr8's star, can you see me now shining far? -

I'm about 7 months out from sleeve surgery and I noticed that sometimes after I eat, I have to sneeze. I don't mean 1 "achoo". I mean repeatedly sneezing, like 10 or 12 times, over and over. When I get this, I'm full, but I wouldn't say I've overeaten. Only oddity is this sneezing business. I mean, I KNOW when I've overeaten. There's no mistaking it. I am uncomfortable, almost in pain. I feel like I need to burp, but can't. Sometimes thick saliva/slime comes up or turns to foam. (sorry for the graphics) Sneezing seems a peculiar reaction to eating and is quite annoying, especially if I'm working in an office environment where people make comments about my jackhammer sneezing or avoid me thinking I'm Typhoid Mary. Besides, my bladder isn't especially fond of repeated sneezing and I cannot trust it. It revolts. I know a runny nose can be a sign that your full, but to go beyond runny nose to this crazy, repeated sneezing? It just seems weird and really, I could do without it. Anybody else have this?

How long dis it take to see your stomach go down
Sosewsue61 replied to shany1567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep...I am sure I could fit size 8 jeans if it wasn't for the belly blob, it is stubborn stubborn stubborn!!! Hang in there it WILL eventually leave. And plus sizes are just horrid, tank tops/sleeveless always have ginormous armholes down to your waist and are super wide in the upper bust area and ALWAYS low bust points and mega hips.....and inconsistent sizes. When you get to regular sizes every 10 lbs is a size change - you will be surprised, get EXCITED cuz it goes fast.... -
1 week out, down 9 lbs., Very weak!
JessaK replied to Ladyhawkhere's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In my experience this is typical. I felt good but week for a couple of weeks. I have low blood pressure and heart rate so my body forced me horizontal a lot. I’m 20 days out and just now feeling stronger. Make sure you’re hitting your fluid goal every day and then your protein. I had to work up to my protein a bit. Protein water helped me because I have a hard time drinking shakes. You’re healing from surgery. It takes a lot of energy for your body to do that. I had rapid weight loss in the first 10 days because of it. -
My Dr, does a 10 day liver shrieking diet. 7 day full liquid diet no sugar or bubbly drinks. 3 days clear liquid with the same rules and then nothing 12 hours before surgery and lots of fluid. I have chose power aide zero and water with MIO. So you have time. Don't give up. I couldn't even have food for 10 days working on day 7 now and I'm starving but I eat sugar free jello, warm flavored tea, chicken broth, sugar free hard candy, sugar free popsicles ect. Good luck!!

Hey everyone. New here. My surgery is this Friday Nov.16. I had to do a 10 day liquid diet, no sugar, no carbonation, Then 3 day clear liquids before surgery. I just have to say I didn't realize how addicted to food I was. I have dreamed about food like never before and even to this minute consider cancelling the surgery because I'm so scared of being this hungry after surgery. I use to smoke and one day I decided I would never let anything have control of my life like cigs did. I would be in control at all times. I through them away and never looked back. I guess my eyes where not open to the fact, food had control of my life. So now I just need some support some motivational words to make it through this hurdle and take control. Cigs I never have to look at again but food is a necessity which makes it that much harder. Thanks for being here everyone.

Hello All - I had a RnY performed on 11/05. The first week home I lost 10 pounds - however; the last two days I’ve actually gained about 3 pounds. I’m still on liquids - and am shocked at the gain. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks!

Try bone broth, sf crystal light and some protein water, get in the habit of carrying a drink with you everywhere - because after surgery you can get dehydrated really fast and be in trouble healthwise. You are thirsty and hungry by not eating during the day and unable to cope at night while looking for stress relief besides. Most of us had 10-14 days of 800 cal liquid protein, and NO food, and then clear liquids for 24 hrs before surgery. You have enough time to get in gear, but please stay hydrated. ( don't get mad @FluffyChix - remember the veterans on here have all been right where you are, and truly want to share our experience, encouragement and help - and if you knew her you would know she was being sarcastic and attempting wittiness along with worrying)

I was working on an appeal and came across the 2017 Kaiser WA Bariatric Surgery program booklet. I don't know if there is an updated book for 2018 (or soon 2019), but I figured it would not hurt to provide the link in case anyone wants to download the PDF. It is: KP Washington 2017 Guide for the Bariatric Surgery Program

BIG NEWS! Several insurers are REMOVING supervised diet requirements
🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺 replied to Walter Lindstrom's topic in Insurance & Financing
OMG! My new insurance plan starting in Jan 2019 is Anthem Blue Cross Texas. I know bariatric is covered in my policy and there was literally nothing else mentioned for requirements in the EOC aside the surgery needing to be medically necessary and performed at a BDCSC facility. This is awesome news!!! Thanks for sharing! -
I went to a bariatric specific hospital so my insurance advocate had it on her calendar to request my records from my PCP the day after my last appointment. She submitted it that day and she called me 2 days later with the approval. From there it took 2 buisiness days to get scheduled. My surgery ways 10 days from scheduling. I’m pretty sure my experience is best case senario. I would just make sure to be your own advocate and follow up and make sure records are getting where they need to go.

How long dis it take to see your stomach go down
MIZ60 replied to shany1567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is also dependent on age....I have dropped about 3-4 sizes in jeans but I am losing much more off my butt, thighs and hips than the stomach area. I know this because I have detailed measurements from 10 years ago when I did Atkins and at the same weight my measurements are several inches different (more in the stomach and less in other places) even though I am exercising much more consistently now. Friends my age (60) who are not overweight also have noted more weight in the "middle" which I think is probably connected to estrogen levels.
