Band to bypass revision on 12/22. Having a hard time getting protein in. Sipping but get gas pains after sipping anything other than water. I’m feeling very weak and still very sleepy. Want to sleep all day but force myself to be awake and drink fluids. Anyone else experience this? Starting to feel discouraged and definitely Feeling like I shouldn’t have done this right before Christmas [emoji53].

11 years post op, have gained 40 lbs, need to get rid of it.

Consider all the $ you've spent in the past. Consider all the "programs" you've tried in the past. Did it make a difference? If you're Dr. (bariatric surgeon) is still in the area, consider asking him/her first. If you're willing to go on a program, perhaps the original bariatric rules would work just as well and cost less. Just a thought. I myself gained back 60 of the 108 lbs I'd lost. I ended up having a revision. But my Dr. was very supportive and worked with me before we came to that decision. Good luck. -
Hi everyone, I had a band to bypass revision May 1, 2013, and because of the revision had to go home with my JP drain. Now, 3 weeks later I still have it in because of some gross, atypical drainage. It almost looks like coffee. I saw my surgeon yesterday and she still doesn't like the looks of the drainage, but is unsure how to proceed because she has never seen it before. I had a CT scan last week and it showed small pockets of Fluid in my intestine. I will have another CT next thursday. I feel fine, great, even. No physical symptoms to correlate with the gross drainage. My question is- has anyone else experienced anything like this? I would just like to hear from someone who may be further along than me and have a clue what is going on. Thanks, Kim

Your "partner" says no? Do you not have autonomy over your life, your body and your health? Apart from that, I've had dilation. My band was loosened quite a bit -- not completely emptied -- for a while, perhaps up to two months to that the dilation would correct. Then I started tightening and found the band in working order. It's been said that, once loosened dramatically due to such a mishap, the band never works quite as well again, but that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't renew the partnership with its owner. If you and your surgeon haven't discussed giving it a chance before discussing revision surgery, you may want to bring it up.

Hugs first of all. What is the problem other than reflux that is causing you to have a revision in the first place? In starting over, you know the routine of going on liquids for a day or two or maybe a week, mushies, and then solid foods.

Lap band back to basics
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Janine1702's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you've moved so far that making an appointment at your surgery practice isn't feasible, you'll do well to connect with one where you live now. If it's been more than a year since you last had an appt, it's time. You should have an [annual] esophagram and discuss what your band is doing presently and whether adjustments are the way to go. You'll also get the full rundown on how to eat and the rest of the routine. I don't understand why your band was emptied instead of loosened. Are you leaving something -- e.g., dilation -- out? P.S. I was doing wonderfully well in the 15 months following surgery and then I blew it. A couple of times along the way, I reapplied myself (saw my NP, surgeon and RD) and lost about 20 lbs. Then I regained those bits. In July I went in again with the idea that my band would be a lost cause. (Much earlier I had dilation twice, which meant significant loosening.) I was wrong and am so relieved that I can forget about revision surgery. Get the proper professional assistance now and see where you get. I get the feeling from your account that one or more parties weren't particularly thorough from the start. Don't give up. I'm exhausted. Good night. -
Thinking about getting my band removed
lisacaron replied to B_heezy12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
@@B_heezy12 I'm sorry to hear about all the troubles you have experienced, but I wouldn't take anything off the table when thinking about a revision. The best advice is to find a surgeon that you trust and have a nice long conversation with them about what your experiencing, and how you feel. Ask them their advice, don't let them make you feel like you HAVE to revise to another surgery but get the information so you can make an informed decision for yourself. Either way if you decide to take the band out, keep the band, revise or no the best person to talk to is a surgeon you are totally comfortable with. See if you can make an appointment not just for an exam or a fill but a comprehensive consultation and evaluation appointment. Make a list of all the side affects that you have experienced, add in the pro's and con's about being banded and keeping the band or losing it. How you feel about revision, and any questions you might want to ask about anything and bring that all with you to the appointment. I wish you all the best!!! Let us know how your doing!! -

Rev Me Up! replied to USMCWifeDixon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! You will find there are quite a few of us former lap-band victims on this site. Be sure to look into the "Band To Sleeve Revision" topic on the main page, about half way down. We post everywhere, but there is a lot of information there. As Tiffykins said, the recovery is different - I am exactly one month out today and it has been more challenging from a diet perspective (its very strict), but I am so impressed with the consistent restriction. Once you get past the first couple of weeks, you can live more normally. Good luck with your decision and your procedure! I wouldn't want to say how much you could lose in that amout of time because it depends on how much you have to lose in the first place, how well you stick to the low carb guidelines, and if you have any other physical reasons you might be a slow loser. Like I said I am a month out and I have lost 26% of my excess weight. For me that is 16 pounds - for someone else, it may be different. Take care, Lara -
After a complete unfill in the beginning of December, due to a slip and esophagus dilatation, I am now back on my way to fills. My 1st fill was (sorry Im a 4cc band) 1.5cc, second was .5 and third was .5. I could still use another one, im able to eat apples, breads and not feel the same restriction that I had before I was symptomatic. Prior to being symptomatic I was at 3.5cc, that's when my problems started, to date im at 2.5. Im hoping another .5 will bring me to where I need to be, I sure would like to see some weight loss. Im thinking the esophagus can easily dilate once its already been stretched and the success rate for weight loss is very low. Is there someone out there that has been successful after having my same issues? Or did you go for a revision surgery?

ANY CURRENT BALLOONERS???
BayougirlMrsS replied to Mimi8808's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
go on to youtube and watch her post. Balloon BoyMom i thought about it because my BMI wasn't enough to revise to the sleeve at the time... -
I had revision also. I went from treacherous band to wonderful RNY. I have gone from 255 to 179. My surgery was 3/7. Initially (first 2 or 3 weeks was rapid) then my first stall...then slllooowwwllllyyy from there. For instance 2 weeks ago I was 283. I pretty much can eat anything. I rarely, rarely have mild dumping syndrome. I just eat a lot less. My practitioners are pleased, and feel as though I am eating in a way that can be maintained for life. My HW was 265. My first goal was 285- DONE!! Next goal 265- on my way!! After that we will see. I dream of 150 being the sweet spot!! But I already am so much happier, and feel amazing!! It is slower with revision, our bodies are already used to this , up and down, near starvation state, so it takes longer!! As long as we keep losing, that is what is important!! I'm so sorry to hear about your problems. The only revision I might contemplate would be duodenal switch (but I'm 'only' in the overweight category so this'd only be theoretical contemplation on my part). You've seriously got to research if you do want it, as it's a serious op and you need to be committed to taking numerous vitamins and 100g protein/day if you're a lady (more for guys). To qualify the BMI is 35 with 2 co-morbities or BMI 40. There's more info here http://www.obesityhe...fore-you-chose/ Don't bother with the ROSE/POSE technique or StomaphyX as I hear people only lose ~20lb and then regain it (they staple the inside of your stomach with a device through your throat). I've been pondering band over plication too (I'm guessing band over sleeve could be an option too), but you say previously had the band so I won't go any further on the subject of erosions, slippage, port flips, the elusive sweet spot, etc! Info on the 5 day pouch test is available on youtube on people's experiences, although info on what it involves is here and http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ I sincerely wish you the best and don't give up... keep searching until you find something that works for you.

Thank you for your reply. I had really bad anxiety right after getting the band, They told me it was from the med Reglan that they gave me. I lost 75 lbs the first year, had my galbladder out and after that I just started gaining the weight back. I have gained almost all of the wight back now and the band seems to be getting more and more uncomfortable. As with mlliemac, I never found the green zone again. I am just starting the process and don't know if there's even a chance for a revision. I have had my band for 6 yrs.

From Lap Band To Gastric Bypass
Jean McMillan replied to goldenlady5's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm sorry about your weight re-gain, but most surgeons don't like to do revision surgery at the same time as band removal anyway, because they want the area to heal completely first. I'm sure someone will jump in and ask you why you haven't considered revising to the sleeve (which often isn't covered by health insurance), so I'll skip along and tell you that I personally know of 2 bandsters who revised to gastric bypass. One had some complications from the surgery but is now recovered and doing fine. The other had no complications and is also doing fine and happy about her revision. Both revised due to slow or disappointing weight loss with the band. Interestingly, they're both finding weight loss to be slow even with the bypass, which makes me wonder if something else is going on in their body to "fight" the bariatric procedure. -
Hello there and welcome! I think there are folks from all over the world here, and a good few from NZ as well! I did the revision from band to sleeve in April. The band wasn't working for me and I had some complications. In any case, this is a great forum for questions, support, and tough love as well.

Hello! I was banded with the Swedish gastric band about 10 years ago. It had worked great until about 3 years ago, when the tube popped off the port and all the liquid came out. I gained most of my weight back. Had anyone had revision surgery in the Raleigh-Fayetteville area and can recommend a surgeon? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Here's A New One. . .MY PORT FLIPPED!!!
Daisalana replied to Calinurse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Vessa- thanks for the info! I go in for port revision surgery tomorrow.. it detached, tilted, and now leaks.. I've been trying to find someone say how the pain is post-op. My original surgery was HORRIBLE for pain, I thought I was dying for a little bit. But when they do the port, it's not so painful?? -
Mine wasn't removed, but I had 2cc's out of the 5cc's in my band when I got a stomach virus that caused me to throw up hourly. Well...it didn't take long to pack the pounds back on and make matters worse, I haven't been able to find my "sweet spot" since then - it's been over a year. Long story short, I'm basically back to my starting weight again. I go see my surgeon on Thursday and we'll talk about my options or if he can get me stabilized again. If you have the opportunity, I'd revise to something else.

what is the port attached to?
2911plans replied to katwmn63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Savannahsmommie. Did your insurance cover the port revision or did you pay out of pocket? -
Mine flipped and I had revision surgery 6months post-op from my original surgery. They moved it from my belly to my chest (it's between my breasts under my bra). Never heard of waiting till you're at goal.. can they get into it? They couldn't access mine for fills/unfills. They open your original port scar, and depending on if they move it or just flip it back, they only deal with that area (or 1 more new incision site).. they don't open up all the other incisions.

NC413...SO GLAD to hear that your flipped revision went so well. I went in yesterday for my 3rd fill and found that yes, my port had done a 180 like yours. Now I'm waiting for a speedy surgery revision date. Good luck to you and here's to no more complications!

I have been cleared as of today
LiggleLiggle commented on Divinediva's blog entry in Divinediva's Blog
I actually had band removal, hernia repair and the sleeve in one procedure and, from what I have read, my recovery time and advancement through the stages have been comparable to others with just sleeve surgery. Thereis a forum on the main forum menu for Lapband to sleeve revisions you might want to check out. Good luck with your journey! -
I would like to know if anyone out there has considered, researched, or had a "revision" from the lap-band to the gastric bypass. I have had VERY poor results with the band - AND YES I KNOW THE BAND IS ONLY A TOOL, AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE LIFESTYLE CHANGES TO ALLOW IT TO WORK; but guess what? I don't think the band is/was for me. I truly think that I need something drastic to make me change. If I am given an inch, I WILL take a mile, no matter what I do. And, this is just what I've done since being banded. I have been banded for 19 months and haven't lost any weight to speak of. I have lost and gained the same 5 pounds since May of 2007. I know what I am supposed to do and eat - it's not that I'm uneducated, I guess, it's that I wasn't ready to make the change, even though I thought I was. I was and still am SOOOO tired of being fat. I don't even want to get out of bed each day, because I don't have anything that fits and I don't want to go anywhere where someone might see me. I have a semi-supportive family, my husband doesn't say anything one way or the other, my kids tell me I look good, even though I know I don't. I am so confused - I have a constant battle with myself every single day. I have thought about the gastric bypass off and on for the last 6 months. I know it's very risky, and that's what scares me the most; however, I have already had 3 back surgeries, and am certainly headed for more, if I don't lose this weight. I am 5'6" tall and weigh 240 pounds. I look and feel like hell. I keep praying, asking God to help me. I don't have diabetes, high BP, or sleep apnea. Does anyone have any suggestions, besides reiterating the lap-band rules to me AGAIN?:scared2:

I don't know if I can offer much help. However, I have been banded since May of 2007, and hadn't lost any weight until THIS WEEK (because I decided to get off my lazy a** and exercise) - now I'm down 2 pounds in 5 days - which may sound minimal, but it excites me! I spoke with the PA at my surgeon's office last week about revising my band to a bypass - because I've had VERY MINIMAL success (not gaining weight in almost 2 years can be viewed as a success; however I was hoping to lose, not maintain). She was going to talk to my surgeon over the weekend and call me today with his suggestion. I mentioned to her that fact that if I can't follow the band rules, what makes me think I can follow the bypass rules. She said that the bypass MAKES you follow the rules. I'm assuming she means because eating sugars can have terrible physical side effects (dumping syndrome) and because the bypass causes a decrease in absorption of what you eat (which is why malabsorption is a concern). That being said, the bypass may be more risky; however, the band IS NOT for everyone. I'm finding that it takes a lot more committment than I ever imagined. And, yes, I did think the band was a miracle cure (a misconception I had), as they do tell you ahead of time that the band is only a tool, and you do have to put forth a lot of effort to make it work to its full potential. If you're not absolutely committed to making it work - it'll be a rough road. I was half-assed committed, and that doesn't get you anywhere. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. It's a hard decision, and you are the ONLY one that can make it. You know your personality, your weaknesses, and strengths. Hope I helped a little.

I am a revision. Pureed foods do not seem to fill me up. Could there be a problem?
