I second speaking to your nutritionist. I assume you will have to pay since it’s been a while but it should be worth it. I would log what you have been eating for a week or two first so she can tell you where to make changes. I do see people on here do it so it can be done. -

DeMarie, so glad your surgery went well!! Getting those laps in helps move the gas in the abdomen and relieve the referred pain. Great job! I feel blessed to have had no nausea and only mild pain near my incision sites. I'm tolerating my fluids well. I unfortunately lost a little more blood during the surgery than expected. So I'm still in the hospital as they monitor my blood counts. Walking the hallways at the hospital unit takes alot of energy out of me, but I get a lap in then back to my room to nap. I should be discharged tomorrow. I'm looking forward to recovering completely. But am revising my estimated return to work. I was thinking I'd be off 2-3 weeks. Now I may take the whole 6 weeks covered by FMLA. -

Maybe do a reset. Your tool is still there and will still work, but it may need a reboot (like a computer) to kind of remember what it's supposed to be doing. I would try doing 3 or 4 days in each stage of the post op diet, to kind of jump start everything. Then go back to eating smaller portions and watching what those portions are of. Also, have you reached out to your nutritionist? Surgeons really can't help with the diet, he's right. But you should still have access to your nutritionist who can really help you get back to where you want to be. -
Water Retention on Pre Op Liquid Diet
summerseeker replied to Sunshine Princess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry about any of the process, It works. You will loose and its not a race. Have a weigh in every week then you wont have the anxiety of the ups and downs of a daily weigh in. You are doing so well. Give yourself a hug and a pat on the back from me -
Saw Doc yesterday and guess I have to do 1 more visit and will schedule for end of June or first of July. I guess I don't have to do week of liquids pre surgery. We'll talk about post surgery plan on next visit on May 31. I'm still really nervous but not wavering back and forth on decision like I was. Really nervous about telling my only son. I don't think he will be in favor of this at all. ( I should be able to just eat less and stick to it and not risk surgery.) Course I'm imagining that response. Thanks for this forum. Any suggestions welcome. Still need to hear success stories from folks my age.

Liver shrinking DIET pre-RNY
Mariann812 replied to Mariann812's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I asked the surgery coordinator the same thing when we set up the 5/16 appointment? “You want me to start now? I could be 6-7 weeks out from surgery.” She replied: “Let’s see. Your BMI really isn’t that high, you could start it after you see him on 5/16 if you want. BUT, some of our patients like to start it as far in advance as they can.” 🤷🏻♀️I decided to start it. 🤷🏻♀️ It gave me a chance to find a protein drink I really like. And, truthfully, I think my surgeon things I’ll opt for a surgery date like 5/20 if it’s available. But, I’m committed to staying in school till the students are finished which is 6/8. I’m not scheduling a date prior to that. I’m fine with it. It’s been good for me to see that the numbers on the scale are going in the correct direction, and I haven’t eaten my arms off yet. 🤣😂 It’s giving me time to develop coping strategies…I’m not an emotional eater, but I will pop something into my mouth simply because it’s there for the taking. I wasn’t always like that, but when the lbs started coming in, I figured what the heck…might as well enjoy it. This week was Teacher Appreciation Week and every.single.day thete was food EVERYWHERE: candy apples 😳, burgers and fries, bagels and cream cheese, donuts, you name it. I stayed away from the myriad of places where food was spread out and kept busy and focused. My assistant is a *itch who never eats anything and this week she kept bringing plates of food into our room. I ignored her. 🤷🏻♀️ I guess I started early more for me than anything else. I’m thrilled to see I’m losing on this plan, because in the past, I could cut back, walk incessantly and actually gain a pound after a month. 🤦🏻♀️ This has been good for me. 🤗 -
Wearing this cute set I bought in 2018 from a boutique. I finally fit back into it! Great for summer. Not at my goal weight yet and 3 months post op but surely getting there. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Liver shrinking DIET pre-RNY
liveaboard15 replied to Mariann812's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are starting the pre op diet already? Even before your surgery is scheduled possibily for mid June? seems very early especially with your low BMI. For most its 1 week or 2 weeks before surgery date. But of course i am no surgeon lmao. Good luck!! You loose weight pretty fast during the pre op diet. I lost i think 12lb during my two week liquid diet. -
Hi all: I’m hanging out in June SB because I am hoping against hope that my surgery date is mid June. My Results visit is 5/16 and I hope to get the date at that visit. Cigna has had my insurance packet for 1 week. Doctor’s office says they take 2 weeks to study it. I began the liver shrinking diet on Tuesday, 5/3 (per doctors office) and I’m down 6 lbs which is nothing short of a miracle for me. A typical eating plan in a day is 2 Atkins Plus shakes, 1 or 2 Oikos yogurts, an Aldi Shrimp meal (140 calories), 64oz water and sugar free ice pops. I WAS hungry on Day 4-yesterday- but I dropped 2 lbs overnight which explains that. I’m using vitamin patches because they are easy and convenient. My nutritionist said they are not effective but drinking all that water makes the thought of swallowing pills impossible. I get blood drawn in one month and any positive change in my levels means the patches are okay. We’ll see. Good luck to all…I am having RNY LAP with hiatal hernia repair. Oh, yeah, endoscopy scheduled tentatively for 5/20. Keep your surgery and recovery stories coming. I learn so much from them.

I am 8 months post op and just went through a 3 week stall. Increased exercise and really concentrated on recording my food intake as well as increased walking. I am back to losing. I am not stopping until at my ideal body weight. For years I thought it was impossible to be at ideal weight. After 105 pounds and 14 inches off my waste, 5 inches on my neck and countless other successes, I am going to push through stalls and refuse to settle at a weight my body tries to settle at. I am getting to less than a 25 BMI.

Hi, merill! I’ll be thinking of you on the 16th! And you are right! It’s never too late for anything! I married the love of my life when I was 40. We have 3 kids (23, 21 and 21). I only started thinking about this surgery in January of this year, but that’s fine. I’m very excited about this, I may be 67 chronologically but in my head, I’m much younger. Keep me posted and good luck! ❤️

November Surgery Buddies!!!

Stall broken with today's weigh in with a minus 4. That feels good. Again... i pushed the fluids hard this week. As in, I was drinking between 125 and 150 oz of water each day. Still ate plenty of protein and also started participating in a step count contest at work... averaged 10k steps per day. Good week. -
How long are you missing work?
Sunshine Princess replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m only taking 3 days off. I work from home & my manager is really flexible with health issues after having knee surgery himself so he’s given me the ok to take as much rest time as i need during the day. -
Thanks for the quick responses... 1. I dont know why im nervous about the bypass I think im just nervous in general and psyching myself out... 2. I dont have GERD of any acid reflux 3. My doctor was okay with either choice... He stated that for a bigger weight loss they used to always recommend bypass but sleeves are getting similar results....

Water Retention on Pre Op Liquid Diet
Sunshine Princess posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is really for the ladies… Anyone have their pre-op liquid diet bump right up against the days leading up to their menses? After losing all week, i seem to have gone up a pound and just by how my body feels, i can tell it’s that pre-start water retention. My surgery isn’t until the 16th but I’m just trying not to freak out about stalling after losing eight pounds in 5 days. I’m going to try upping my walking, diluting the broth with water to reduce sodium, and not have anxiety over all of this. -
What was the first thing to give you dumping?
Doodle41 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all I am 4 months post gastric bypass and so far so good. The first couple of weeks were hard but I’ve got into the grove now. I don’t seem to have any kind of issues with meat, fruit, fat etc. but I haven’t really tried anything with sugar yet apart from the occasional spoon in a cup of tea now and then. Does anyone find it’s sugar that causes dumping? Not that I intend to go on a sugar binge but the occasional sweet thing would be nice, just scared of dumping! -
How many stalls have you had in your journey?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Search up "three week stall" and you'll come across many posts by many of us having had such stalls right after surgery. I have had one a week after post-Op and stayed for some good 3 weeks before scale started responding again. My 5 month stall also lasted about 3 weeks and just few days back it finally broke. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeh I felt the same. I tried to increasing/decreasing calories and exercise routine but nothing helped. Similar routine and all of a sudden scale started moving. 🤷🏻♀️ So it seems like such stalls will come and go and changing anything in your routine won't help much. At least that's my experience too. -
Can't see the weight loss
Arabesque replied to Tami10's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So sorry you experienced those complications with your surgery which hindered your recovery. You’re experiencing body dysmorphia. Your brain hasn’t caught up to the physical realities of your weight loss. It’s still picturing you as you were & can’t see you as you are now. A lot, if not all, of us experience this is some form. As an example, I remember seeing a slim woman’s reflection in a mirror in a store & turning around to look at her because she was wearing the same clothes as me. Time literally ticked by before I realised it was my reflection & I was the slim woman. Comparing old & new photos helps as does putting on something you used to wear & seeing how much too big they are. Take some body measurements as well & record them so you can track those changes too. There are some foods that just don’t sit well with us. Chicken is often a challenging one because it can be too dry. Steak can be too heavy. Pork can be too fatty. And often our taste buds &/or sense of smell changes. It’s usually temporary as is the fussy tummy/food intolerances but your recovery was protracted which may be why you’re still experiencing some of these issues. Give yourself time. Don’t give up on those foods or drinks yet. Just have a break & try them again in a couple of weeks & repeat as needed. -
scared...what will happen when I'm an old lady??
Arabesque replied to traceymmm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In the beginning you are eating very small portion sizes & can only sip so you have to drink every couple of minutes. I certain,y didn’t & wasn’t encouraged to eat every 30minutes but only three times a day . (You are advised not to drink 30mins before or after you eat. Maybe you confused the eat every 30mins???) And yes it sometimes can be a struggle to meet your fluid & protein goals every single day but you’ll work out ways around this. It all improves & gets easier. By around month 3 I ate three meals a day & one or two snacks one of which was a high protein yoghurt (15-22g protein) to ensure I got all my protein in. Some continue to have a protein shake which counts as fluid as well as protein. By the time you are in or close to maintenance your portion sizes will have increased to being about the recommended portion size for all food for an adult e.g. 3-4ozs of meat & you’ll be able to do more than just sip. Some say they can get back to drinking whole glasses in one go. Everyone should be drinking 2L/64ozs of fluids a day & everyone should be consuming about 1g of protein per kg of body weight (multiply your weight in pounds by 0.36). Doesn’t matter if they’ve had weight loss surgery or not so it’s not something special to us. By maintenance, If you eat three meals a day, with about 15-25g protein each, you’ll be getting about all the protein you’ll need +/-. Age, activity level, gender does affect the amount you will need of course. Of course while losing we’re given a specific protein goal to compensate the restricted diet. Check out this protein calculator for when your weight has stabilised: https://www.nal.usda.gov/human-nutrition-and-food-safety/dri-calculator Oh & I’m almost 57 & days out from my 3 year anniversary. -
Soaking in a tub after sleeve surgery
Arabesque replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Will getting in & out if the bath be an issue? Remember any lifting restrictions you have. Mine was not to lift/carry anything heavier than 5kgs the first 2 weeks, then 10kg. I don’t know how you get out of the bath but I always pushed & heaved myself up & I weigh way more than 5kgs. 😂😂. Also soaking in warm water my cause the glue to break down more quickly. But I’d check with your team first too.
