Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
huskymama replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ok doesn’t look like anyones been here for a bit except me lol. I have a question - I’m down 30 pounds and 29.75 inches. Last week I finally broke a stall and went down 3 pounds. Weird thing is I actually should be down 37 inches but gained inches in my biceps and one thigh - weird I know I think it’s lump fluid because I had the lump nodes removed from that groin as a teenager. I’m 4 weeks one day out. Has anyone else had similar changes in inches? Loosing and regaining? I’m thinking my arms may be muscle because I have been doing some arm weight exercises just 2 pounds. TIA -

Hi Everyone... So i am only one week post op with a robotic gastric sleeve. I am feeling so much bloating, gas and a little pain. It's hard to tell if its pain or hunger. I have only loss 8lbs so far is that normal or should i have lost more??? I see people post they lost 20 or 30 and i think am i doing something wrong? I do well with getting in the 60g of protein but not sure if i am getting in enough water. The struggle is real. -
Yes. I had the exact same pain as well. My doctor said it was incision pain due to all of the numbing meds wearing off. I wore a stomach binder to keep the weight of my stomach from pulling ion my incisions on the right side. It worked and now the pain has disappeared. I am 5 weeks out from surgery. The pain started around week 3 but it is completely gone.

Doing it all wrong.

Perfection is the enemy of the good. The first few weeks can be a breeze for some and devastatingly difficult for others. We can only do our best. Push yourself to improve. Keep doing your best and you will improve. Good luck, Tek -

Don't worry you are not alone a lot of us feel like this, my dietitian said don't worry about calories at this stage as long as you are getting something in, however at this stage I would keep away from coke, maybe when you are 6 weeks out frozen coke might be OK. Maybe try sports drinks or water with disolveable vitamins in it. I lived of KFC mash and gravy during the puree and soft food stage I couldn't stomach anything else -
Drinking water gets tiring! 😪
huskymama replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mixed 1/2 sugar free Gatorade with Water the first few weeks. Hot herbal teas are also great and I just started crystal light a few days ago but can only drink one a day I prefer the taste of plain water personally but I have spring water that comes into my house not city water. Maybe try buying bottled water see if that helps Also I get the big body armor light and drink a few ounces of that a day. My Dr and Nutritionist said it was okay to do. I have to drink cold cold with pebble ice except tea I like it hot from the sink not to hot but hot. -

I had buyer remorse but it does get easier. Gatorade sugar free was my savior. I’d mix it 1/2 and 1-2 with Water. You’d be surprised how fast you will be able to drink more. The first few days are rough and now I’m 4 weeks out I’m eating real food though soft and I feel human again. My little tummy is pretty happy most of the time now it just really hates all Beans in any form or variety. I still sip water and let me tell you I didn’t o ce just not thinking and it hurt like hell for a good 10 minutes - not worth it trust me. Take it easy I named my tummy little turd because it has a mind of its own. Kinda helped honestly I mean we go through the pain of having a baby and this baby is so worth it and needs taken care of with this we get nothing. So now I have my little turd who gets taken care of like a newborn (except the name of course.) and when it acts up it’s like a new baby needing something - a drink or a burp. I want to keep it happy and healthy so slow she goes lol Hang in there you’ve got this and watching the weight come down will out the biggest smile on your face - trust me you will be just fine -
My Dr told me set an alarm I’m to eat 6 small meals a day around 200 calories. Honestly I just turn the alarm off and finish what I’m doing 1/2 the time I forget until the next alarm goes off. I’m lucky to hit 700 calories a day but I’m only 4 weeks post op. Take some hair and nail Vitamins I had someone who had VSG tell me that and she didn’t loose very much like not even noticeable. Food is yucky to me too but I know my body needs nutrition. Good on the weight loss! Hope you can find something you like!

Honestly if you only have 30 pounds to loose do it without surgery. Go vegan for a month or try something but I wouldn’t have surgery. I went raw vegan and lost 20 pounds easy and felt great and full. I had to go off because life happened but I didn’t regain it. I am happy with the progress I have had the past 4 weeks since VSG but I honestly wish I had given myself more time being vegan and waited on the VSG. I was loosing more and faster, felt better, and had energy like I haven’t had since a kid. So no don’t do it for a small amount of weight. It isn’t the easy road or just to do for vanity. It’s rough - like reading, watching etc what others say about it still doesn’t prepare you for how rough it is. And you will have 6 scars from it. If your minds made up then go for it! And I dropped to 31 BMI day of surgery it didn’t matter it mattered what I started with. I wish I had asked more questions like you are - I would not have done the surgery. But I did and I’m happy with the results. I hope you will be too! Good luck with whatever you decide!

4 weeks out today VSG 12/22/21, and my Nutritionist started letting me eat real food ie soft real food Saturday and I had some chicken omg it was Heaven. Started the liquid diet before thanksgiving so it’s been awhile for me since I’ve eaten real food. My weight was 197 today so 30 pound total loss from liquid to today. The only thing I’m dealing with is I’m severely allergic to eggs now - big welts so Dr saw them said yep full blown allergy and my tummy hates Beans - all Beans I’ve tried them refried, hummus and I made pinto beans with ham for the family - had them in the crockpot 12 hours ate a few chewed well and back up they came. So I hope this resolves because I eat a lot of beans pre the VSG. I totally forgot to eat most of the mid morning to about 4 today and only got in around 500 calories. Other than that I’m super excited about where I am at. I still feel tenderness if I over do things on my right side where they removed the stomach but that’s it! No brain fog or vision issues at all. Glad to see you guys doing good and glad to finally be moving from the dreaded stall lol! -
I didn’t really feel hungry or interested in food for ages, well into my second year. Then I had odd days or times I didn’t feel hungry. Now I feel hungry every day - how I wish for the old days. Life was much easier then. Even though I wasn’t hungry, I still made sure I ate & found eating to a routine extremely helpful. I also made sure I was eating a variety of foods to ensure I was getting in all my nutrients. Yes my tummy could be very fussy, but I worked out the meat, seafood, eggs, vegetables, dairy & fruit it liked & slowly added more options. This also established how I tend to look at food now - as a source of the nutrients my body needs to function. Have a chat with your dietician & start trying to eat real food. Don’t try something once & give up on it because your tummy revolts. Try it again next week. Try simple, more bland food to begin then add the spices, etc. you enjoy as you’re able. Good luck.

Food Before and After Photos
Arabesque replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
USSR love it. Her head would have exploded I’m sure. I am fortunate that I have a very good, but very expensive, butcher who still has meat so I have meat for dinner but I tend to get the chicken, salmon & prawns I eat at lunch from the supermarket as they’re a lot cheaper. But the meat sections in the supermarkets are very bare. Honestly I am a bit fussy. but there are certain things my tummy just doesn’t enjoy plus I can’t do the spice thing at all. The available stock is so erratic. Like this week they had prawns (yay) but were marinated in chilli (boo). I’ve spent time over the last 2+years finding the best food options - best protein, best general nutrition with least or no sugar/artificial sweeteners, low carbs & low calorie. Last week I went to three different stores to try to find what I needed. All I found was three tubs of yoghurt, a couple of protein bars & … processed frozen crumbed ‘chicken’ schnitzels - the horror! Because I don’t absorb protein well anymore, being unable to buy my trusted protein sources is a a worry. Oh God, I may have to go back to shakes - shudder. -
Okay I know a lot of you are going to fuss at me, but let me tell you why first. I am one week post bypass. I simply could not get down enough water / protein. I think they call it food avoidance. But anyway, the protein shakes....I couldn't even look at them. Let me mention here that I am 68 years old, probably a bit older than most of you. Broth was good, but as you know very few calories or protein. I tried to eat & drink like I was supposed to, but just couldn't. I did call in for some more nausea meds, (after I had gone through the original prescription) Finally got them today, and I willl try again tomorrow. Here's the thing; I was getting weaker and weaker. You know, wobbly legs, cold sweats. So today I broke my diet, ( which was to be still water, Vitamin Water, SF Jello and protein drinks.) Anyway, I went in the kitchen, got some instant mashed potatoes, and made a slurry of that and broth. Ate that twice, about half a cup the first time, a quarter cup the next. No bad effects that I could feel. Someone took me to get my prescriptions oh, and all I could think about was an ice cold Coca-Cola. Yes I know, no sugar, no carbonated beverages. But remember at this point, I was feeling genuinely weak. So I got a small iced coke. I drank about 2/3 over 6 hours. Tiny TINY sips, and....no bad effects. Then I had a tiny bit of well cooked Raman. And chewed the heck out of it.. Now I'm not stupid. I know I need to get back on the protein and I intend to do so, but becoming dangerously weak, (and again at my age,) I elected to put something in there because I had had less than 50 cal over the last four days. Guess what? I feel better. Should I have done this? Probably not. But I feel better. And for those of you who said I should call my doctor. Sometimes that you don't feel confident in what they're going to say, when they say "Well, FORCE yourself." (Well I have been. Duh. That's why I called you) My two cents worth.

That is how my gallbladder attacks feel. I’m getting it removed in two weeks. I recommend calling your surgeon to figure out what’s wrong.

I am 1 month post op, and having pain to my right lower abdomen that is radiating to my back. It lingers mostly on my right side. I was off pain meds after a few days, however this pain started about a week ago and is continuing. Has anyone else experienced this? I had an RNY on 12/21z Thanks!!!

Yay! Congrats!!!! Isn’t it a wonderful feeling?! I just recently made it to onederland as well. I stalled at 197 and then I ended up dropping a TON very quickly. I’m 185 right now and I think I hit another stall .😭 I’ve been this weight for the past few weeks. I’m trying to stay off the scale and only weigh myself once a week. 195 was my goal (and I honestly didn’t think I would make that number!) so anything extra is a bonus 😌. But I can’t help but to think “yeah I could loose more” …😅

I have gallbladder removal surgery scheduled for February 3rd. He said that I should feel a lot better a couple weeks after it is out. He thinks it's been making me feel bad for weeks and that may be what has been slowing down my ability to drink and eat enough. The physician's assistant said I would be back to work in 3-5 days (I work from home). Hopefully I recover quickly because after 5 weeks of leave, I feel like it puts me in a bad spot at work to have to have another surgery again so soon.

Hi! I'm exactly 4 weeks post surgery and doing pretty good. The weight loss has slowed a bit but still making progress. It's been amazing seeing the weight come off and fitting into some of my old clothes again. I'm still in the puree'd stage for another week, so now starting to get creative with fish, meat, and anything else I can ask the wife to mash up. There haven't been any major setbacks except for a severe gout flare up that has been hampering my walking since week 2. I'm drinking upwards of 70 oz's of water a day and still can't seem to shake the soreness and pain in my toe joint from the flare up. Other than that, it's full steam ahead!! Glad to hear your success! -
Well I never got to the part where I had to drink half and half. 😅 My gallbladder didn’t show up on the HIDA scan after three hours which the technician said meant something is blocked and they will probably take it out. Just waiting to get home now and call my surgeon.

Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?
lizonaplane replied to pintsizedmallrat's topic in Rants & Raves
I can totally relate to this thread! I was a 3x, but maybe I was a 2x and I just got used to things being big? Now I'm a large... and I only have a few things left from when I had lost 100lbs 7 years ago. However, I have decided not to buy anything except food and COVID supplies (I bought masks and tests) for the month of January, so I'll have to wait a few more weeks. I wish we had a good re-sale shop near me, but the thrift shop I found doesn't have changing rooms so I find it very frustrating to shop there. I should look around more. I've been trying to get things from my local buy nothing group, but I haven't gotten anything good yet. I don't understand the juniors vs. misses thing. I always thought that juniors was for teenagers, so the styles were very "young" and the fits were not curvy, but I see a lot of people on this site saying they are wearing juniors clothes, so maybe I'm wrong, or it's changed since I was a kid. I am sort of a conservative dresser; I tend to wear Talbots, LL Bean, Chico's, J Jill... or, maybe I'm just old!!! Maybe it's just that I'm used to these stores because they all had plus sizes? I look around the mall and I feel like most of it is just junk and pretty trashy looking. What are some other US brands that are high quality? -

Don’t fret! It’s normal . I had my surgery on 12/17 and lost 13.5 lbs the first week. I stalled at week 2,3,&4. In week 5 now and the scale is finally moving again.. thank the lord. the 3 week stall can be 3 weeks or less. It doesn’t necessarily start in the 3rd week after surgery, but it’s normal. Just stop weighing yourself b/c if your like me it will make you think you are the problem. It’s common and you will be on your way soon again. -
Frustrated - Canceled Surgery: Advice?
LookingForward22 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was scheduled for Feb 2, everything was on track… but then I got covid the beginning of January so I was feeling rather rough. I got a call last week from my surgeons office, they needed to reschedule my pre-surgery consult due to the surgeon having to shuffle his surgery schedule - originally scheduled for this week (no big deal). When talking to his office scheduler I mentioned I needed an end of day appointment - I understood that may push me out a bit but my husband wanted to come and as he had just been in quarantine he wouldn’t be able to take off for a day time appointment right away. Our original appointment was at 4, we were asking for an appt after 3:15 if possible. This was our last chance to ask questions of the surgeon and honestly my first appointment with him was not one that left me confident. In fact there were a few different times when going through appointments with various people through this program… my husband and I both questioned is this the right place/program? Well the last straw for me was when the scheduler essentially blew me off asking “this really is a very brief appointment - does your husband really need to be there?” I was dumbfounded… Ummm yes, he’s my primary supporter, he’s the one who will be helping me through this and I’m blessed he’s been so amazing throughout this process. I told her I would call her back. I immediately told my husband about the exchange and expressed my concerns. He agreed they had been dismissive in other areas and agreed he was not entirely comfortable with this program, but was supportive of whatever I wanted to do. I took a few days to think about it and during that time the practice manager reached out to me to reschedule but I relayed to her that while my program coordinator was amazing, I had several other appointments where my concerns and questions were dismissed and my initial appointment with the surgeon left me with more questions than I had answers. At this time I didn’t feel moving forward with their program was the right decision for me and I was going to be looking elsewhere to find a new program. So essentially I fired my surgeon. I know that I was having reservations about this surgery right from the beginning… and I had red flags that I kept discussing with my husband - things that just didn’t feel quite right. Now I am overwhelmed at starting the process all over again - looking for a new program… wondering will it be the same somewhere else? Did I do the right thing or was I just not feeling well and over reacted? Obviously I’m second guessing myself … I think I did the right thing. But now I don’t know what the next step is or where to start over at. -
I walk outside nearly every day (minimum 5, usually 6-7 days a week). I walk anywhere between 2 miles and 6 miles. My usual walking route is 3.25 miles and it takes me almost exactly an hour. I prefer walking outside to using a gym because it "traps" me. There comes a point at around 1.5 miles where my legs start to feel heavy and I'm a bit tired and I honestly want to quit. At the gym, it is very tempting to hit the pause on the treadmill and call it a day. But if I am walking outside, I am 1 to 1.5 miles away from home. Unless I want to call my wife to pick me up (which I did once when I felt like I might be close to dehydration/heat exhaustion), I have to suck it up and walk home. And then I keep telling myself this quote, "Everything you want is on the other side of hard."
-
I do too little and only walking. Short dog walks 4 days a week (about a mile) and Longer (about 3 miles) the other 3 days. I would like to get back to running eventually and the dog would love it but I'm too heavy at the minute (knees!) I do have a cross trainer in the house but it's boring and I use it about once a week. What you're doing is amazing - where do you get the time???
-
I do 45-60 minutes of cardio 5-6 days a week, plus 2-3 days of strength training. for cardio, I walk, do water aerobics, Zumba, cardio dance/walking youtube videos, or (when the weather cooperates), bike. There's also a seated elliptical at my gym that I'll "ride" occasionally.
