If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....
LisaNLasVegas replied to Nursebarbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No I wouldn't. If I did not have the band, I would be 100+ pounds from where I am now. My weight was continuing to go up and up and up. It was my tool to STOP the madness. Yes, I am getting a revision and still have a BMI of 39, but I know if I didn't get the band my BMI would be WAY more than that. It served it's purpose and now I'm ready to trade it in for a newer model! -
If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....
Fatty McFatster replied to Nursebarbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not sure what I would do, but I was definitely disappointed with the band. I had great success and lost 120 pounds in 1 year, but then everything came crashing down and I started having lots of problems including several ulcers. So, ultimately I had to have it emptied...and gained all of the way back. I am, however, happy to say that on Friday I will be having the band to sleeve revision surgery. -
May I ask how you are all getting in now? I have only lost 6kg in the first month. Revision from sleeve to MGB CW 120KG

How severe is your GERD and what is involved with a revision? I am having horrifying reflux almost every evening and throw up probably 3 days a week. I am over 4 years post surgery and didn't anticipate any of this happening!

GET THIS THING OUT OF ME!
nightingale2u replied to Angelita33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been banded for 9 years and I can't wait until April 1st to get it out! My I have been unfilled for 7 years as my stomach wouldn't tolerate them and my port site always hurts! I am having my revision done in Mexico as my insurance will not cover a revision to the sleeve. I had to refinance my house to pay for it but I think it will be worth every dollar I pay to get rid of this band and have a tool I can actually work with! -
Your story sounds so familiar. I was banded 10/2010. I had no problems the first 14 months, but only lost about 45 pounds. Then I began having increased reflux and I would also go from being able to eat nothing and throwing up if I did, to eating an enormous portion of something that I wouldn't have expected to be able to eat. I then gained back about 20 of the pounds that I lost. OUCH! My doctor began to talk to me about a revision to the sleeve. I knew that the band was hurting me, physically and emotionally but to be honest I was scared of another procedure where I would experience failure. It took me over 6 months to decide to have the revision. When the doctor went in I had severe gastritis and esophagitis and pre-ulcerated lesions, as well as the band having come up too high and the presence of a hiatal hernia. I just had surgery this past Wed. 3/20 and what was supposed to be less than two hours was close to 4 hours of surgery for him to clean out all the scar tissue, repair the hernia and do the sleeve. I was in pain and nauseous for the first two days but yesterday and today I am feeling much better. I don't know if this will be the answer for me, but I knew that I had to get that band out even if my insurance didn't approve the band, but fortuantely they did. I feel skeptical but guardedly optimistic that this will be a better procedure for me and I hope that it works well for you too!

How much would you have to lose to get to your goal weight (whose goal weight exactly)? I'm asking because results regarding weight loss seem to be quite mixed when it comes to revisions.

Only popped back in now, I’m two years since my MSG revision. I’ve spent the last year hanging around 84 kgs so I’ve another 20 to go (was 135kg at MSG surgery). I have to get back on track as I know how to cheat 🤣

On and off since 2011. More on back in 2011/2012 and recently after my revision.

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

My date is the 27th also I feel the same way. I am having a revision from Band to Sleeve. -
Thanks Faith. After today I am NOT happy at all... Dr wants to talk about revision already. He is not happy so far with my breasts and wants to discuss it in Sept. He is anticipating now that he will want a revision. BTW, who has to pay for that???? He also told me my port is what it is. Literally it looks like I have a baby's foot or hand sticking out. It hurts like hell as well. I asked if I should talk to my surgeon, he told me no. He said the surgery will be hard for a revsion and it isn't on the table now. I understand I need to be healthy, but I want to know NOW what my options are...grrr..... Please remind me girls, this will be worth it someday right??

Most sleeve Drs out of country?
Oregondaisy replied to betrthnever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
in her original post, she was asking about people being banded by doctors in mexico. I was banded by a doctor right here in my town. He just barely started doing sleeves. i wanted a doc experienced in band to sleeve revisions, and Dr. Aceves fit that bill. -
16 Mos Out...disappointed
Lissa replied to tntransplant06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
DS is duodenal switch. I'm not sure what's involved mechanically inside our bodies, but that's what it's called. It's the worst, from my reading, in terms of malabsorption issues with Vitamins and Proteins. It's also JUST another tool. If you want to beat it, you can beat it, just like you can defeat a lap band, a sleeve, or a gastric bypass. The DS and the GB both cause dumping issues for many patients, which I'm scared of having. My sister in law has had a GB, two revisions and a DS...and she's till over 100 pounds from goal because she defeats her tool daily. I think the OP and her hubby have done a tremendous job of working their sleeves! Their calorie intake is a little high, IMO, but it can and does happen to many sleevers. I'd recommend cutting back the calories, or at least making sure they raise their Protein intake, and then adding in (more?) exercise to help them get to their goals. I'm only 9 months out, though, so my advice may be out of line for their personal situations. Good luck! The first step to dealing with a problem is admitting that there is a problem. -

ND I had revision surgery because I've been suffering with Reflux for about 1-1.5 years. I had a feeling something was wrong but, my doc would do unfills and it would go away. After gaining back some weight, I wanted to try a fill again but, with the promise from my doc that tests would be done this time if the reflux came back. The day before Thanksgiving I had a fill and BINGO that night reflux a little bit and then the full blown thing the next night and every night since. I had to sleep in an upright position for more than a week until I was finally able to see him again. I went in the next Tuesday, had an upper GI and the radiologist told my doc the band slipped. I was told to come back in on Wed for a complete unfill and we booked surgery for the 18th of dec. I went into surgery not knowing if I'd wake up with another band because it would depend on what he saw when he was in there. Turns out the slip was worse than they thought so they took out the band and fortunately they were able to put another on in, in a slightly higher position and this time around they tacked it a bit more torwards the back of my stomach to make sure it didn't move. I'm feeling great except I'm still on liquids. Man liquids are TOUGH especially the 2nd/3rd time around. I can't eat mushies until I see my doc again on 1/7. Then I praying I can get something with more bulk down that will keep me feeling full longer. Liquids do not keep you satisfied for long when there is no fill in the band, that's for sure! I can't give you a typical daily diet because of all I've gone through. I won't know what it's even like for another 4-5 weeks. I do know that I used to eat my Protein first, then fruits & veggies and carbs last if there was any room at all left. I couldn't eat bread or anything that would take a long time to digest like Pasta because it bunches back up in my stomach and doesn't want to digest so I skip those things. I'm looking forward to being able to have solid Proteins again though, that's for sure! Hope you're feeling better. The 2nd time around wasn't as sore as the first because they didn't have to replace my port. They used the same one I already had so this time I only had 4 incisions instead of 6. I'm still pretty bruised and I have some scarring but, doing ok. Some jeans are too uncomfy yet to wear still because the waistline lands on the incisions. Sweatpants are my favorites right now lol -

Hello everyone, I'm sorry I haven't set up a date for a support meeting. I've been going through heck with my band...reflux issues. Had a slight unfill in August...tried a fill the day before Thanksgiving and it was a no go. An Upper GI showed a slight slip/prolasps that needs revision surgery. I'm headed for revision surgery on 12/18/08. I hope we can get together for a meeting in Jan or Feb I'll keep you folks posted if you're interested. The meeting will be at my place in Taunton, MA. -
I don't want to revise because I don't want to drop below 150 so my mindset is firm and I want this so its time to use my band what is for a tool. But I originally lost 50, I also was dealing with thyroid issues the past year and I recently had my thyroid removed. I also don't want to revise because I am scared of the complications.

Just starting my 6 month supervised diet
kyrickchick64 replied to jazzNjoeywebb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome. It depends on a lot of things. And you need to discuss it worth your doctor. I am having the vertical sleeve(vsg) on March 2nd. For me after research on here and online I liked it cause I wasn't completely rerouting my system and I have allot of weight to lose. Im only doing this once so I don't want a band revision in the future so that's one of the reasons I didn't choose the band. The surgery is a tool. How much our little you lose will depend on you and your body. If you eat things you shouldn't then you won't lose as much. If you stick to a high protein low carb diet then you should do well -
JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP
Jeannette Anndaisia replied to SMED0308's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone! I hope I can count as a July Sleever. I had my surgery on June 30. The hardest part so far was the fact that my cousin's birthday party was June 29th and I could not eat anything. I still can't believe I did it. I was a band revision to sleeve. I started at 355 (my highest weight was 391). I am down 30 lbs since surgery. Unbelievable! Funny thing is, I am not hungry. This is very strange for me. I eat because I know I have to and when I feel weak. I am working through this mentally. I am still attracted to food, the sight, and smell. However, I do not crave it anymore. It is as if my mind has already adjusted to the fact that I do not have the same stomach volume as before. This is so great that it's almost scary. Scary because this can really work! If I do what I am supposed to do, and learn to have a different relationship with food, I can have a normal body weight. Finally! Thank God! -
I'm finally back to the weight I was at before I went into the hospital -- my pre-surgery weight. It took 5-days. Everything from here on in is new weight lost. Given that I'm not particularly active yet, it's OK if things don't move all that quickly -- although I hope they do. Time will tell. Band to RNY revisions don't lose as fast and I've accepted that.

Im 3 month out 30lbsdown from revision lapband to rny.... Sent from my LG-K540 using BariatricPal mobile app

Banded in 2009 went from 252lbs to 149lbs in 3 years. Then I started having problems....... Food intolerance Heartburn Suspected slippage However I began a battle with infertility at the time and didn't care about my band even a little. Now that my son is old enough I need to get my band taken care of. I have a consult Friday for a gastric sleeve revision. I'm a little nervous about the whole idea. Anyone else in a similar situation. Oh and I've gained like 50lbs back. I am currently bouncing back and forth between 195lbs and 200lbs.

To sleeve or not to sleeve, that is the question!
GreenTealael replied to curvee gêne rosa's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes only a surgeon will be able to advise. Revisions are based on other factors besides weight. -
I had the sleeve almost 10 years ago, and yes, it does get bigger. However, I still can’t eat near what I used to eat in a sitting. For example, I can eat 3 pieces of pizza now. I used to be able to 5-7. It happened over time, though. I second those who recommend therapy. I am about to have revision to RNY, and I have been in therapy for several months to help me be successful this time around. In my case, because I didn’t truly deal with the reasons I eat, I regained almost of the weight. Best wishes to you!!
