3 1/2 Weeks Out And Stalled Again
mommy794 replied to lovePINK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just now 3 weeks out and down 20 but I think the KEY to keep telling ourselves is ... We never kept the weight OFF before THIS time we WILL! I keep that in my mind at all times. Ya I've lost the same 35# about 35x in the past 17 yrs but this time when I get to 165 which is 15# away for me right now I KNOW that I will never weigh 200 again! So that's my personal 1st goal. I haven't been at that weight in 11 yrs. I can't wait !!!! and I hope I get there maybe by the time I'm 2mo post op. Just keep your eye on the prize! Sent from my iPhone using VST -
I'm new to this, haven't even had my first fill yet. But I do know everyones weight loss is different. And on average with the band you are to loose 1-2 pounds a week, so if you do the math 20 pounds is right there. I would suggest you discuss with your nutrionist what you are eating to make sure you are getting in the right amounts of protein, calories, etc. Good luck.

I went for my first ride since being banded and did it feel great! Living in MI the riding season is short and it sure was hard to give up 3 weeks of riding.

Will I be able to...
rodriguezequal replied to HelloPenny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have an 18 month old that is about 26 pounds. I asked my surgeon and she said there aren't any lifting restrictions, but you need to be careful and only do what you feel comfortable with. I couldn't pick my son up until like week 2 or so...I could sit down and let him crawl up into my lap...after 2 weeks though I was fine...I guess every surgeons suggestion is different so I would ask yours  good luck -
Will I be able to...

No...not for a few weeks. My doc said nothing over 15 pounds for 2-3 weeks. Check with your surgeon, but I am sure not for the first 2 weeks. You could tear your sutures loose etc. -
Pre-op diet and blood sugar

Thanks Bobbie, I'm glad to hear you are off all your meds, you're doing great. Were you starving for the 2 weeks or wasn't it too bad? -
From the album: 14 weeks Post op
-62 pounds...20 to go till goal! Current weight 158.4 -
I used to get heartburn a few times a week before I was banded, and it has stopped completely. My surgeon actually told me the surgery would help and it did. I am not disagreeing with the possibility of heartburn as a side effect, but it can go the other way as well. Hopefully it is fill related and will pass. Good luck!!

The first couple weeks post sleeve I would get a pang that hurt. Not, double over and cry hurt but it was uncomfortable to say the least. After awhile it went away. Things are swollen and angry in there. Give it a little time. Once the nerves heal a bit that pain should diminish and then go away.

Does anyone else's weight flex between 4 & 5 lbs a day
Long2BFree replied to mamalovell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's completely normal to have that much of a fluxuation. I only weigh in the morning to get my true weight. I would also encourage you to weigh once a week instead of several times a day/week as you will drive yourself crazy. :smile2: -

2 Questions: Weight Limit and Location
pstroud100 replied to SierrasMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I am still going thru the steps for banding, I have already began my life change. My doctor requires that I do a 4 week low carb diet before I have the surgery to shrink my liver. I have also began working out. I would like to show that I am willing to do whatever it takes to make that change. I hope that this info helps you. Good luck in your journey. Page -
Hello everyone. I just got banded on August 9th. I have lost 14 lbs so far. I am still drinking liquids. I am trying to be creative. I am having a hard time remembering to drink the protein. I make cream of wheat and put a scoop in it. Watery of course. I know it is important to drink the protein. This Thursday will be two weeks on liquids. I was told at least two weeks up to three is better. What has everyone else done? When is a good time to start to excercise and what can I do and can't do????

Scared To Death! My Banded Plication Journey 6/15/12
Latrelljayden posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Everyone, I had the Banded Plication (In addition to the Band the Plication is where the stomach is folded and sewn instead of the Gastric Sleeve, where it is completely removed, it is supposed to have the same result of the sleeve, which is more initial rapid weight loss, but it is less invasive and can be reversed if needed) on Friday, June 15, 2012 and I was terrified. I used this forum as a way not only to help me deal with my fears, but to also research some concerns that I had, and I must say that is was nice to read what some of you had to say. I just wanted to share a little of my journey in hopes that it may help someone else. At my Pre-op appointment on June 6, 2012 I weighed 244.5lbs. I started my Pre-op diet that night which consisted of 30 grams of carbs a day. No restriction other than the carbs. 2 Days prior to surgery I started my clear liquid diet; this was of course because the Doctor wants the liver as small as possible for surgery. On the day of Surgery, 1 week later I weighed 234.5. While in surgery the Doctor found a hiatal hernia which he repaired, that made the surgery 3hrs as opposed to the normal 1 hour procedure time. I spent 5 1/2 hours in recovery because I was so wiped out and they wanted me to drink 2 cups of water before leaving the surgery center. I only drank 1, but my husband made sure that I drank the other when we got home. I was in severe pain and to be honest had no idea where the pain was coming from. I was not sure if it was Gas, Incision pain or the hernia repair. I feel like I lost 2 days because I went to sleep that Friday when I got home, and slept all day Saturday most of the day Sunday due to Anesthesia and pain meds. It was a little miserable, because I had a hard time getting comfortable. Passing gas was a whole lot better than burping because burping actually hurt my chest. I only took 2 days off work Monday and Tuesday and I must say that I wish I had taken the whole week off, because driving and sitting up for long periods of time was very difficult. I ended up taking Wednesday off, left half day on Thursday and it looks like I am going to make it through my first full day today. My husband has been kind enough to adjust his schedule to drop me off and pick me up though. I stayed on my liquid diet 3 days more that needed, because I did not read my pre-op instructions carefully, but I had a small amount of an EAS Myoplex high protein shake on Wednesday evening which really gave me some strength. I do not think I was ready to have anything before then anyhow. Yesterday I boiled some broccoli and a small piece of steamed fish, put 2 teaspoons in my food processor and pureed them for dinner. It may sound nasty, but it was like a steak dinner after being on a liquid diet for 7 days. I took small bites and chewed each bit 30 times because I wanted it to stay down and not make me sick. It all worked out well in the end. Being afraid is normal, but I must say that the hardest part was getting there. I prayed and asked God for strength, I was so scared the morning of surgery I had chest pains and they had to give me an EKG to make sure that my heart was ok. I did get some medication to calm me down before hand, so by the time they wheeled me back I was feeling ok, then the Anesthesiologist said it's time to go to sleep and I felt dizzy for a quick moment and was out, the next thing I remember if a straw being shoved in my face in recovery to drink water. Being scared is normal, but I was not going to let my fears cripple me. I knew I had to do this and that kept me going. Pray and ask the Lord to calm your fears and you will be fine. Anyway, this morning I weighed 224.3, so I have lost a total of 20.2lbs in 2 weeks. I hope that this was of some help to anyone getting ready to have surgery, or has already had it, because you guys have been so helpful to me. God Bless -

Νοτ all people lose at the same rate. Other people's stats are there for encouragement not to freak you out. I l ost quite a bit of weight the first month but i started out at a VERY high number and that does make a difference. No two people are same. However you know you shouldn't be eating sweets. Haven't you had your first post-op yet? Your NUT will tell you what the right food for you is. What mine told me was that i could eat basically anything except sugar. i am allowed one dessert per week. i should eat very small quantities every 2 hours and protein at every meal. I never took the shakes. I get my protein from yogurt, low-fat cheese, fish and nuts Make sure you get lots of liquids and if you cant exercise try to at least walk. Hang in there, you WILL lose the weight. 35pounds is not a small amount especially for someone who's been "cheating". -
9 days post op & really nauseous

Burping and bad gas six days out.
NotSoTall replied to jujube's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm no help with the drain as mine was removed the day after and it was still putting out red. I still get the burps and I'll be 2 weeks out this coming Tuesday. I tried Gas-x strips early on, but found the walks were the best for getting gas moving out. I don't have gas pains now, just the burps or hiccups now and again. I also attribute that to taking in more fluid at a time compared to the ounce every 15 minutes of the first few days. I think the fluid is moving the air out of the way, so to speak. -
Thanks, i.m just hungry all the time, this is my first day on mushies, managed to eat alot more than i thought i would be able to too. I have a guide to what foods i should be eating but no guide to how much and i don.t speak to the Dietician for another 2 weeks.

Does anyone know why so many of us seem to stall so quickly? I am getting so frustrated. My surgery wason Jan. 25 and I have been stalled for almost a week now already. I really hoped I would make it at least a month before I stalled. In the back of my head I know this will work simply because of the restriction on how much I can eat but I am still beginning to wonder why the scale won't budget at all.

Desk Jobs..How long will you need off work
curvesincali replied to honey38635's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on a vanpool that travels for 112 roundtrip everyday. I want to make sure I am gas free before getting on the van after surgery.I may take 2-3 weeks off. -
Linda, You may have to initially crush or cut your tablets. The fish oil is best left out for the first week, until some of the swelling has subsided. I have a pill splitter and was able to take the glucosamine cut into 4. Pyretta

How long before I can go back to work
tammygirl replied to twinmommy2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back to my desk job a week after surgery. I found myself weak due to the liquid diet which I was still on at the time I went back to work. Therefore, I worked half days for a week, then gradually increased the work day hours back up to 8 hours over the next couple of weeks as I felt stronger. Everyone is so different. Listen to your doctor and to your body. Best to you! Tammygirl
