I'm a week out from revision surgery, and I don't think I'd be ready to go back to a job that requires so much energy yet (not to mention the lifting!). I'd give yourself 2 weeks just to be on the safe side.

Wasabubblebutt is in recovery
WASaBubbleButt replied to lucky1001's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It was on OH, that board just sucks. However, the person that wrote the "no rights to revision" surgery routine is a person from here that posts on OH as well. On OH that stuff is routine, members don't permit it here so I should have probably explained what I had planned. I did refer to it in PMs, I just didn't want it posted. A handful of people knew but I just wasn't in the mindset to deal with it over here too. In retrospect I don't think I would have had the issues here that I did there. Members moderate the boards pretty well here without moderators. So it would have been fine to post it here. I was scared, I was unsure of changing procedure types. I was afraid it wouldn't work. I had all the usual fears. I was afraid I was making my problems permanent and forever. I'm realizing that being gun shy of WLS was needless, life is good again! It's just that banding wasn't for me. As each day passes I am more and more positive I made the right decision. I haven't barfed except for one of the leak tests. That stuff was vile and disgusting! -

Thank you! Everyone here is so sweet. I kinda half expected a bit of negativity about revising to another procedure so this is really nice. Thank you. -
Yep Im sure I will see you Kyla.. If that is the case with your port, that isnt as bad as the band leaking. I know someone who has already had to have her port revised. I think she is the first and only one so far. Hers flipped over though and they couldnt get it to flip back. Support group is next monday right?? the 24th? Thats the first day of finals, that gonna be a fun day lol.:Dancing_sorry:

There was an bunch of skin cutting with my surgery. A TT typically is hip bone to hip bone with maybe a vertical incision. I had a 360 around me with a vertical incision. Plus my arms plus a revision to my breasts. 8 feet plus in incisions all together. Ouch, ouch, ouch

Either stuck or no restriction
WASaBubbleButt replied to DaMomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of thoughts here.... It's normal to be tight in the AMs.. There are different opinions on how to resolve the "can only get soft foods down in the AMs, can eat anything in the PMs." Some doctors tell you to white knuckle it. Dr. Curry on OH suggests doing your fill at 5PM so you have good restriction in the evenings yet you cannot eat at all in the mornings. Getting full... this is the fat mentality rearing it's ugly head. Did you know that naturally thin people don't like the full feeling? They eat until they are no longer hungry. WE eat until we are stuffed full. A good guide would be this, while you are eating really think about your hunger level: If you are hungry eat two more bites, If you are satisfied stop eating, If you are full you ate too much. When your restriction is not great drink ice Water before eating. Cold usually tightens people up a bit. I am sleeved now (revision from band to sleeve) and even with a sleeve that's about the only thing that affects my restriction. If I drink something hot/warm I see no difference. But if I drink something ice cold before a meal I can only eat about half of what I usually do. My food quantity is already very limited so I don't drink anything cold before a meal. But if I was trying to lose I would. -
SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
Tlmarsh replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am wondering about lactose intolerance. You said that many are after RNY. I was a lapband which was revised to gastric bypass. I don't drink much milk, although my clinic has suggested 2 glasses per day. I do eat yogurt and cheese. But I have had a few glasses of milk lately and had major digestive upset right after. Could you give more info on this issue? -
I was 6 years out and had a revision roux n y on June 8. I threw up all the time. Come to find out my previous doctor left a not needed piece of intestine called a blind loop. Food was going to my new stomach and to this intestine and creating bacteria. I also had a hiatal hernia. If it wasn't for the strictures I would feel great. I am very great full my new doctor took the time to solve the problem.

I'm June 7. Revising from lap-band which was removed on March 16. The process has taken well over a year. It feels a little surreal now that it's really getting close.

I had my sleeve done in Feb 2017, but after the first year where I lost 100 pounds, I regained about 60. I tried doing pouch resets but they didn't last. I could eat a full plate of food, not as much as I once did (because let's be honest, I probably could eat 2 plates of food), but certainly a lot more than anyone who had had the sleeve should have been able to eat - the restriction was really not there for me. So just over 3 weeks ago I had a revision to RNY (long-limbed). My surgeon and I discussed the possibilities and this was his recommendation based on his experience as a surgeon: People who re-sleeved had the lowest amount of weight loss after a revision People who had a mini gastric bypass (which basically keeps the sleeve but adds a long-limbed bypass - usually about 100-150cm) do great in terms of weight loss, but at least 10% will suffer from GERD afterwards, which will require another surgery People who revised from sleeve to a standard RNY (which is a short-limbed bypass) didn't lose as much weight overall with that procedure People who revised from sleeve to a standard RNY but with a long-limbed bypass did the best with weight-loss and without the complications of developing GERD. So I went with this option (not only because of this, but because of other gastro-intestinal issues I have). In any event, I would talk to your surgeon about what you want to achieve and what is the best option for you, your sleeve, and what your own particular health needs are.

I’m new here - my surgery date is December 17, 2018. It will be revision surgery - band to sleeve all on the same day.

Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY
2lovebugs2love replied to DeLarla's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was banded in 2008 @ 280 lbs, had a revision for a slip in 2009. Got down to 160 with band (the after shot shown). Complications led to a LP to sleeve revision (my weight was yoyo-ing all over the place for a year, gained about 25 lbs) Had a revision to the sleeve in Nov of 2014. My Before and After are all Band Pics. -
February Sleevers -- Let's Do This Together

I am also brand new to the site. My surgery is Feb 6 and is actually a revision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Our time has come! I have been doing clear liquids all day after my 10oz of magnesium citrate ugh!! Anyone else have to do this today? I just packed for the hospital. Packed clothes for my little ones to stay at grandma and grandpa so that hubby can just be with me. Now this is real. I'm so nervous today. All I have been doing is praying that the revision goes well and that I could be back home with the kids by Wednesday. I have never been away from my almost 2 year old for more than 1 night and that just happened a few weeks ago. So I just hate leaving the kids. Prayers going up for all of us soon to be sleevers tomorrow. I know there were quite a few of us! Good luck everybody!!

Current weight: 119. Please revise my goal to 117. I chose 118 because I thought my body was basically finished releasing fat. Apparently not.

JulieNYC's Extended Tummy Tuck and Breast Lift
JulieNYC replied to JulieNYC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Yes, my port scar used to be above my belly button about half way between my ribcage and my belly button. It moved down about 5 or 6 inches. Now I want a low profile port but I don't want the added scar so I'm not sure what I'll do. I should have had it put in when I had the TT but I was chicken. My uncle's actually a bariatric surgeon and offered to do it while I was under, but I just didn't want to mess with it -- mostly meaning my fill level. I wound up needing an unfill later anyway, so in retrospect, I'd have had it done. Live and learn. Dad was fine with doing the TT 30 lbs before goal -- actually it was more like 50 lbs before goal because he cut off 12 lbs, I've lost a little more since then and sitting here today I'm 30 lbs from goal. His view was that for patients who are paying and are going for a one shot deal, wait to goal to get the best results. For me, I knew I'd be having revisions anyway at some point. Plus I really wanted the pannus off right then. I was really, really sick of it, even if it meant having a looser end result. For my DAD (as opposed to my surgeon), I think he thinks I'm going to have children anyway and he'll be doing it all over again anyway, so a few more lbs lost isn't causing another surgery. Of course, I'm not at all sure I'm going to have kids, but I think that's his view. It was better for MY butt/thighs to be done at goal -- that's not the case for everyone. My stomach was pretty much done and just hanging skin even 20 lbs ago. But, my thighs still carry a lot of fat. That's where most of my remaining 30 lbs is. It's like how many surgeons will do a BL with 30 lbs to go but want you to be within 15 for the TT. Most women lose in the upper body first. Hips and thighs are the last to slim on many, me included. The thighplasty doesn't do the inner thighs at all. That'll be done in a separate surgery, if I decide to do it. I definitely need it cosmetically, but it doesn't really affect clothes like the outer thighs do. I'm a clothes horse, so I care more about that than I do about looking perfect naked. It's a good thing because I'll never be a swimsuit model.... Nite. -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

My date is the 27th also I feel the same way. I am having a revision from Band to Sleeve. -
On May 9, I had a revision to my original gastric bypass RNY (2004). It’s called Endoscopy with Argon Plasma Coagulation. Basically they go down your esophagus to the pouch’s exit and zap it to create scar tissue which makes the opening smaller. I’ve had to go back to the post-surgery meal plan. I’ve worked my way up to chicken. I’ve lost 21 pounds since. It seems like it’s a slower loss than before, but maybe my body has grown accustomed to having the smaller stomach, and maybe the gastric juices aren’t as concentrated as they were. Here’s me now (top) and before revision (bottom). I’m glad this forum is here. I need the support from fellow bariatrics.

Maybe I should revise my goal to 190....

Very soon I will go from Band to Sleeve!
A. Stoot replied to aloudwhisper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Awesome, congratulations. ...I am wondering why 2 years? I was band in 2005 and my paperwork for the revision was submitted to BCBSIL today and I am nervous about the outcome, really praying for an approval. -
Hi Everyone!!! I have a tentative date of 3/26. I am having a revision from lap band to RNY. I have not submitted to insurance yet I have one more doc visit on 3/6 before I can submit for approval. I have completed all other tests required! im not sure what my Pre-op diet will be but i know i will have one! I have a great doc and i am thankful. I'm excited, scared, nervous and looking forward to time off work. Lol. I wish you all the best, speedy recoveries and to loose lots of weight!!!! Elle

I had a sleeve 5 1/2 years ago. Just had a revision to RNY on the 12th. I had terrible stomach acid to the point it was taking over my body! The sleeve will not prevent acid reflux since the partnof your stomach that produces acid is still there. My doctor suggested RNY because he said that is the only way Ito finally get rid if my reflux. If you do have a lot of acid before your procedure, you may want to talk to your doctor to see if RNY would be a better option for you now, rather than maybe revision down the road. congrats to your husband for his success!

So I know people can have reflux problems after a sleeve, but I apparently am one of the rare cases of having severe issues after bypass. I currently have 2 large ulcers. They are talking revision surgery. Has anyone had this issue? I am only 5.5 months post bypass.

Severe Gerd and ulcers after gastric bypass
jas84047 replied to CKmommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Omg someone else like me! I was only 2wk post RNY (revision from Sleeve due to gerd even though I had a Fundoplication 10yrs before my sleeve) when I stopped eating or drinking anything & vomitted nonstop. After 3wks of that I finally went to the GI who did an EGD and found an ulcer at the staple site the biggest he'd ever seen. I was literally on deaths door due to loss of magnesium, nutrition, dehydration, potassium, etc & was admitted to the hospital straight from the EGD and put on a feeding tube for 2 weeks. I'm now 2 weeks off the tube and nothing I eat works. It seems the ulcer friendly foods and the bypass friendly foods are not compatible. Please tell me when things got better for you & what you ate? I hate eggs & yogurt & love cheese and protein shakes even make me sick now. [emoji31] Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Celiac disease diagnosis years after RNY
Brandy36 replied to Brandy36's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Miss m, Thanks for all your information. I see my gastroenterologist on the 17th and will see if he has any more of an actual prognosis for me. My fatigue is really the worst side effect for me because I feel like only half a person! I suppose the fortunate part is my 2 daughters are 25 and 29 and if they had been younger my mother guilt would be horrible right now. This doctor is not my bariatric surgeon and I get the impression from them that they did their part and unless something is wrong with the staple line or I need a revision or reversal then it's out of their hands. Do you see a new doctor for your gastric complications or are you still treated by your bariatric surgeon? Those that have not suffered these types of complications I have a feeling are in denial that it could happen to them also. I followed all the rules and take my Vitamins and supplements daily and was always a healthy person except for the extra weight. This was not a side effect(s) I was even expecting and like you said and others before you the doctors are not equipped to fix these problems. I've seen so many doctors starting with my primary and then going back to my bariatric group twice before they shipped me off to other specialist of which I've seen just about as many as I can think of and the majority of them point a finger at my bypass surgery! I seriously am worried that I may have to get a reversal but I just can't imagine going through that as well as worry if it would even work but I also know that I cannot live my life out like this as a 53 year old woman who feels like she's. Slowly dying! So thanks for your info I will look it all up and ask my doctor what he thinks. I hope we can all recover from this, brandy!
