  1. Hi everyone, I had the lapband put in two years ago. I lost about 30 pounds and in the process of doing so moved across the country and had to find a new doctor to provide fills for my band. Although my original fill was under fluoroscopy (which obviously worked since I lost the 30 pounds), subsequent fills have been "blind" and have seemed to be either too tight or too loose. And to make matters even worse, sometimes when my band is loose, there are times when it gets super tight and I do the PB thing. It seems to be when I'm anxious or nervous I can't eat, but when I'm relaxed I can eat too much. I'm frustrated because I've gained back some of the weight I've lost because my band fill hasn't been right. I think I need to get a fill under fluoroscopy but I guess I'm skeptical about whether my band is even going to work for me anymore, especially given I've had it for two years and I know most people lose most of their weight in the beginning. Is it too late for me? Any opinions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    Feeling depress

I had my band for 3 1/2 months now and I feel comfortable now with it. Well now that I learned how to work with it I don't seem to be losing any weight. At first I was walking on the treadmill at home and doing the Wii fitness but now I've joined the gym and I'm watching what I eat. I really think I'm at a good spot with my last fill because I'm not hungry as much. I don't get on the scale daily just on Mondays because I trying to get to 174lbs by Memorial Day. So do anybody have any suggestions on what maybe the issue or what I could probably do to start loosing weight again????

    Hello ..

Thank you, Leo. My quick weight loss can be attributed to having a very tight band from the beginning. I had several serious health problems that were directly related to being super morbid obese and so rapid weight loss was a plus in that respect. At this point I'm no longer diabetic, no longer have high blood pressure, no longer suffer from GERD or many(though not all) symptoms of PCOS. On the other hand I've lost a lot of hair and have a lot of loose skin. I realize that the amount of weight I've lost 6 months out is not typical and for that reason I rarely post my stats. Then I think back to all of those who were banded before me..Robin, Wednesday, Jenn, Millie.. and shared their experiences and reading those stats and stories encouraged me to have this procedure in the first place. The only advice I can give is what you probably already know...Drink lots of Water, eat your Protein first, get fills when you need them, exercise and be thankful that we have this wonderful tool in which to better our health and our lives! 5. Do you have to be put under for fillings? Is the port linked to the outside of your skin?

    Where is Neenagh

all the boys are blonde and fair, and she's the only dark one, eyes, hair, skin. So my husband (he's italian) walks around holding her like a trophy, insisting to everyone "doesn't she look just like me?" he never mentions that our daughter in law is half spanish!
  7. Hi everyone, So Wednesday will be officialy a month since I had my VSG...I have only lost about 16lbs...I know it's a lot but i'd say most of that weight was lost in the first two weeks. For the past two weeks I just dont see any lose at all...my scale goes up and down but pretty much stays the same. Im tired and i feel icky most of the time, Im walking and trying to be active because I can totaly see myself getting depressed. I'v been told this is normal, but i don't think hearing that is helping at this point. I guess Im scared I'll be the first person I know that has this done and doesn't actually loose the weight...i'm still having a hard time getting in my fluid and Im only getting in about 35-45 g of protien a day...I burp so much when i eat or drink that it's making me not want to do either...im taking the pepcid and vitamins and now fiber chewables but it's not making a difference with my burping...I know ppl who went back to work after two weeks, i couldn't imagin going through al this and have to work a full day...im going to water arobics tonight hoping that will boost my mood...anyone else out there feeling the same way? Tesse
  8. When I had excess skin, I still felt kinda fat. i knew in my head it was skin, but it looked like fat to me. I worked on alot of self acceptance, and I was "okay" with it preplastics, but ... i still felt like I had a good layer of fat. Yesterday a friend of mine said "you are now officially a skinny girl" - meaning I no longer need shapewear, cleverly disguised clothing. It is hard to explain, but post reconstructive plastic surgery I feel like I truly am at goal now. I suspect that the feeling of really looking more like a normal person is motivational for many - but only time will tell. I am 2.5 years out from my sleeve, still plenty of time to regain.
  9. This is going to be short and sweet. Everyone keeps on saying how they have NSV (non scale victories) and can feel their clothes getting looser or falling off completely and while those are fabulous victories, I'm a numbers girl. So here I am baring it all - the weight was pretty hard to disclose to begin with but now I'm going to share my measurements. My hopes are to be able to document how steadily I lose these inches (hopefully many and quickly). I did take "before" pictures last night but have not had an opportunity to upload them yet, those will come later. So on to the public mortification All in Inches Left Side Right Side Bicep 18.5 17.5 Fore Arm 13.5 12.75 Thigh 35.5 34 Calf 22.5 21.5 All around Hips 60 Waist 47.5 Chest 44.5 Boobs 49.5 Neck 14 Sizes 22 pants (snug but 24 are very loose) 18/20 top & XXL 40/42 DDD This is where I start, I'm not proud of it but I look forward to seeing the numbers come down.

    Frustrated

I had surgery 4/9 and in August I stopped losing weight and for 2 months I did not loose. I was totally freaked out, I then increased my intensity of my exercise from walking to running and increased from 45 min. to 1 hr plus and that got me losing again. Not as fast as I would like but I am losing again. Some of us are slow losers !!!

    Can't Eat

A couple of weeks ago I was considering a slight unfill because of so many PB's. The last fews days I'm thinking I could use a tiny bit more fill. I have decided my band is a fickle band, tight one day, loose the next.
  12. This thinking is a serious challenge to your eventual success with weight loss and an uncomplicated weight loss journey with your band. Your surgeon is not trying to torture you at this stage, and there are valid medical reasons for following the instructions you were given by your surgeon. We can get into serious trouble with the band if we choose to ignore the instructions the surgeon gives; you may stretch your pouch, harm the placement of your band, or not loose weight. You have paid good money to have the expertise of your surgeon...it will help you immensely to follow the rules and not make up your own along the way. The pre op and post op diets were by for the most difficult stages for me to date...but you do get through if you decide that you want to. If you want to move to the next stage early, don't do it unless your surgeon gives their approval. Good luck...

    Post Op Q's?

I am loosing it but slowly, I did have a revision and was an IV fluids for all four days so I am hoping this is it because it definetly is not the eating, lol!
  14. Hi! I am mexican 23 years old and my bmi was 41 before the operation. I choosed Gastric Sleeve in Mexico with doctor Henry Mansur. I took this road because last year I was in Europe and even when I changed my eating habits and I did a lot of exercise: I couldn't manage to loose more than 5 lbs. I really love mexican food, but I realized that it would be easier to cut it of my life after this months away from it. So I came back from Europe 29 March and my operation was programmed at March 31. I was very sad because hubby wanted to eat a hole mexican buffet in front of me. But I did it well till the pre and during the medical process. Everything was ok with my analysis and today I'm 5 days post op. The only problem is that I feel a lot of pain in my back on the left. I hope is nothing serious, but still I'm terrified. I called my doctor and he recommended taking a shot of Alin Depot and pain medication. And if that doesn't stop the pain we will meet tomorrow. And also my face is covered with pimples. Is this normal ? Thanks. This space keep me very motivated.

    Hormones

I second TijuanaPlication's advice, stay off the scale. I have lost 44 pounds so far (20 pre-op and 24 post op. I am three weeks and one day from surgery) and NO ONE has noticed that I have lost any weight. And even stranger, my clothes aren't that loose. I noticed that my rings are loose, and my work shoes feel a little loose, and my boobs has DISAPPEARED; but otherwise, nothing has changed! Yet when I do weigh, the scale tells me I have lost. I am going on faith that eventually my body will HAVE to start to contract. I mean, can you loose 44 pounds off your fingers, feet and boobs? (I was not THAT generously endowed!) I hate it that no one has noticed, but keep telling myself that one day people who know me WILL notice. I have sworn off the scale, except for once a week. I found that if I didn't loose a pound every day, I was self restricitng my Fluid and Protein intake, which I know can't be good this soon after surgery. So now I am weighing only once a week. Take Heart, the weight is going to come off! KathyD49

    Hows everyone doing?

I've been doing OK...yet lately I have started eating alot more, and being more hungry. I have a 2nd fill appointment scheduled for this monday, and am looking forward to seeing if I have the same amount in as they put in (no leak?) I keep getting scared that I will either spring a leak or stretch my pouch! Or maybe I just lost some excess fat around my stomach. I have noticed that even though I don't loose on the scale, my body keeps shrinking...which is a good thing. Ive also been seeing a therapist to help with work out my "head hunger" issues. Which is difficult but helping. I still have a long road ahead of me, but I'm chugging (sp?) along. 1st fill: 9 march 09 - 5ml (out of a 11 ml band) 2nd fill: 6 april 09 - ??
  17. When ever they do any type of surgery, there is always a chance that excess fluid will stay into the tissues due to all the irrigant they use during surgery. They either put in a drain and suck it out, or the body reabsorbs the excess fluid. Now, there are instances where there is a small clot sitting somewhere or a loose stitch that continues to ooze and they end up cauterizing it or adding a stitch again. I am assuming you tried to apply pressure and ice to it. Ice is a vasoconstricture. It is their responsibility to take care of that because if you are oozing, THAT IS A FABULOUS PLACE FOR A NICE POCKET OF INFECTION TO START. THEN MY FRIEND, YOU WILL HAVE A WHOLE NEW SET OF ISSUES....make them take care of it.....changing a dressing 4 times a days is excessive.....

    The scale is moving again!!!!

Michelle, that is fantastic. Would you be so kind as to tell me or all of us what your food diet was during your journey and what you did. This would be very interesting and a motivator for most of us. I hope to follow your steps and loose the #s too. Giby97

Pattern of weight loss--slow or not?

ssmom-You are doing ok, my average loss per week at the beginning is a big amount but as you add weeks, the average is between 1 to 2 #s a week. My average is 1.67#s per week now. There are times when you will stagnate for two maybe longer at one weight but then the loss occurrs again. Just hang in there it's normal. Some folks loose more but for some like me it's a slow process. I weight myself every morn and monitor what I can eat that day to stay at my designated weight. It fluctuates from day to day. I keep a positive mind cause I know the lapband will eventually assist me in reaching my ultimate goal. Best of Luck and Always maintain a positive attitude, it's going to work. You may at times stray and if you do, just readjust and remember to go back to the basics, soups for a few days, mushies for a day or so, and whalla real food again. It has worked for me. Stay the Course.

    2 years? huh?

It's probably ideal but like chickie says, I think you can tell if you're going to get significant improvement in some areas of your body. I definitely thought for a while my tummy *may* end up a little loose but its shrunk quite nicely. I'm about to turn 40 ffs, waiting 2 years is hardly likely to improve things, roflmao! they're heading south at a very fast rate these days.

    2 years? huh?

I had my first PS at 16 months post lap band. They had to remove the skin from my belly 'cause it was going nowhere. they cut off a flap that weighed 7 lbs! I could have done crunches until the cows come home and that was not going to go away. Not sure why your doc wants you to wait 2 years so I support you in asking him. Perhaps he wants to make sure you will maintain. Maybe he doesn't want people to think PS is an easy way to reach goal weight. (FYI it isn't) I always thingk we should question out doctors so we have all the information possible. If something sounds strange, make them explain it. Remember, you pay the bill, it's your right. Good luck!
  22. Hello all i am almost a year out on feb 10tg. I have lost 53 lds and went from 22/24 to 14/12 but although ive been using weights i feel weak and not sexy at all like i used too. I actually dont feel as if ive lost and weight. I wanted to do glamour photos when i hit one yr but ive changed my mind because i don't feel confident. I believe I've hot a serious stall even with changing exercise routine as well and i can't get my water levels in...this is all so frustrating...i dont like my body changes at all i used to be more flexible i hate feeling my bones and this extra skin ugh.lets not even discuss the dramatic drop in bra size (read pancakes)..and is anyone else menstruating more ie twice a month ...the only bright spot i have is i am no longer diabetic and i have a bit more energy...just ranting and looking for advice and encouragement.
  23. I chose mine for the sames reasons as Stareyez, and cuz I didn't want to look like a bobble head doll. Example: Star Jones (GBS) vs. Khaliah Ali (Lapband). Of course it helps having mega $$ for plastic surgery, cuz Star gotta lotta that done. I on the other hand don't so I though with lapband I'd loose it slow enough to give my body and skin a chance to try and catch up. It is no garuntee that I won't need PS, but with GBS you tend to loose it mega fast.
