Fear!!
catwoman7 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you won't die on the table. Weight loss surgeries are among the safest surgeries out there - much safer than a knee replacement surgery, which as you know, they do every day. Gastric bypass has a 0.3% mortality rate - the sleeve is even lower. So at minimum, you have a 99.7% chance of NOT dying on the table. Given every surgery has some kind of mortality rate, even tonsillectomies, those are OUTSTANDING odds. if you keep on top of your vitamins, you won't die of malnutrition, either. lastly, complications aren't very common, and for those who have them, most of them are minor. I know it's easier said than done, but STOP worrying. You will do just fine and once you have all this behind you, you will be so happy you made this decision!! -
Good luck! I’m having bypass on the 24th. Now that it’s so close I’m just so eager to get thru the next few days. Liquid diet is not so bad for me now. But still struggling to get all the water in. Really going to focus on that this weekend.

April 2019 Surgeries!
ChocoBabe replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, so my gastric bypass is on Tuesday 23rd April. I’m so nervous about the op but still excited. I just can’t wait to get the journey going. I’m on the 2 wk liver diet which started really bad but with only a few days to go I’ve found the will to go on. Good luck with all those who have ops coming up this week. Stay strong and think of the future you. -
Hi everyone! I am approximately 9 weeks pregnant and feel super bloated and have already gained a few pounds and it is making me extremely nervous.. I had wanted to talk to my surgeon about my constant stall no matter what I was doing and my terrible reflux to get revision surgery prior to me getting pregnant.. now, I am not due until November, and was wondering how long after I give birth should I approach the revision? I am not going to breast feed due to my line of work and would like to have the revision done while I’m on maternity leave so I don’t have to take additional time off from work. Anyone do this or have any pointers? I’m super stressed about the weight gain :(

18 months sleeved, 6 wk 5 days bypassed 100 lbs loss this week Cw 134

I had the sleeve Sept '17 and woke up from the surgery starving - I was just hungry the whole time with it. Had Bypass surgery Feb '19 and I have not felt hungry. I opted for the sleeve initially because I was scared of the finality of the RNY, but to be honest there was no need to be scared. I don't feel that different except that my hunger has lessened and I have a bit more restriction.

Anyone had full bypass surgery??
Briswife15 replied to allies journey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Try searching for "revision". lots of folks on here first had the sleeve, and had revisions to bypass. Usually for severe GERD. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Terrific bariatric surgeon in Connecticut - Dr. Darren Tishler
Briswife15 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I recently had RNY gastric bypass done by Dr. Darren Tishler at Hartfird Hospital, which is a bariatric center of excellence. From the initial educational seminar last May, through the nutritional visits, pre requisites, and insurance coordination, Dr. Tishler and all his staff were fantastic. For the surgery, he gave me a cocktail of meds including one for nerve pain, and another for nausea, which the nurses in the hospital said made my experience easier. While in the hospital he visited me every day (I was there 2 nights). I was on round the clock anti nausea meds, as well as pain meds, which kept me comfortable. Their printed guidelines and diet, constipation, and exercise guidelines are excellent and keep me on track, and never wondering what to eat or do next. Dr. Tishler is extremely experienced and skilled. I can't recommend Dr. Tishler and his staff more highly!!! (I'm 23 days post surgery) Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Your experience was horrendous and that nurse should be fired.Shes supposed to show you support and not degrade you or your family. Please notify the hospital director and your surgeon as i am sure that he will want to make sure that never happens to one of his patients again.. My daughter is a nurse and would be mortified if I or anyone she was caring for were treated like you were. I had the sleeve and I am waiting for approval for the bigger full bypass surgery. I hope you and your family don't think every one is like that nasty woman. Good luck to you. Allie Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Getting my surgery date next week. Met with surgeon this week and went over all of my pre op appts/ testing. He said my blood work showed borderline anemia... just under normal with both iron and b12. I was hoping to choose RNY. But now hearing I’m at a higher risk for vitamin deficiency after.. should I consider sleeve instead? Has anyone been in a similar position? Did you still go through with bypass, and were you ok with just the regular amount of vitamins recommended?

Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!
allies journey replied to MinnieSD's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey, I had the sleeve 2016,no complications from the surgery or recovery process. But my Reflux disease has gotten much worse because of it.My gastrointestinal doctor says I should of had the complete bypass. So my bariatric surgeon now agrees as instead of taking 2 pills a day for reflux disease I am now taking 10 pills a day. Am currently waiting for approval from insurance company to get the big surgery. Hopefully you are doing great. Good luck with your journey. Laura's RNY Journey; Age 31 Starting Weight 365

I am so sorry for your loss. It's not easy, but just know you will have that family. You look incredible! I too hit a 100 pound loss this week! I wasn't expecting it my goal weight for myself was 140. It would a 95 loss. But I've been sleeved and bypassed ( with in 17 months) it's been a rough journey. But even through all the craziness, I would do all of this all over again. I love reading your journey. And hope you keep at this! Thanks for sharing, even through the tough parts. I've been there too. We miscarried, took a year to get pregnant, very rough pregnancy and 70 hour labor, and then were unable to conceive a second time. Fertility treatments failed, and by 29 I had to have a hysterectomy. But despite I have an incredible smart 15 year who keeps me busy! -

Thanks. My doctor told me that I didn't have to do the pre-op diet because I barely made it with my bmi of 36. Are u doing the sleeve or the bypass
-
I chose the sleeve, mostly because i was self pay without insurance, however the sleeve does wonders. I liked the idea that the sleeve meant that my body functions would be the least invasive and function normally. There is a lot of restriction with the sleeve. from what i have heard, the bypass should be for those with comorbidities besides the weight loss. I was lucky and didnt have anything but weight loss to deal with. The other thing i heard was some that get the sleeve have to be revised to bypass depending on how much weight you have to lose. You really need to weigh all the options and make the best decision for you. What is right for one, may not be right for another.

Exactly what my Dr said BYPASS is best for diabetes2 sufferers!
-
I had bypass because I suffered from GERD prior to surgery. It's gone now, as is my type 2 diabetes. The sleeve may make GERD worse. Bypass is considered the "Gold Standard " but there are many, many successful sleevers here. Do lots of reading of the posts here. Good information is available. Good luck! Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!
GreenTealael replied to MinnieSD's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Choose RNY bypass if you want the GOLD standard of WLS w/ malabsorption which tends to be faster but some say the feeling of hunger *may* not be diminished nor have a great deal of restriction (compared to sleeve) Choose VSG sleeve if you want steady weightloss with the *possibility* of greatly reduced hunger and strong initial restriction sensation w/ no malabsorption but some develop GERD in the future -
Hi I’m on the last stage and just waiting for my surgery date, at my last visit with the consultant he asked me which surgery I was opting for I was always opting for the sleeve and then decided on the bypass, can anyone tell me if they have had the same struggle with this decision and why you chose either the bypass or sleeve? I’m so confused and can change my mind as late as going into the operating room so as much info from everyone will help me make that decision Thank you

Hello all, My bypass is planned for May 8th in Madrid, Spain. Last night was the first time I started questioning my decision to do the surgery. This thread just swiped all the doubts! Congratulations to all of you for your achievements and thank you so much for sharing! Enviado desde mi ONEPLUS A6003 mediante Tapatalk

Hey feliz when you say your esophagus is stretched how is that? I had a revision on my lap band two days ago because my stomach and intestine went through the band. I’m a gastric bypass first then I started over 10 years to slowly start putting my weight back on so I looked for a dr. That would put a band over my gastric bypass.
