Ugh, no. I had to have an unfill a month ago after I flew whilst I had my period. I've never had any effect from flying before. You really ARE in a spot of bother, about all you can do is stick with liquids, and any calorie filled liquid you can find - milk, orange juice, anything like that. Yogurt might be OK, I actually block up really easily on yogurt for some strange reason. You wont starve to death in four days even if you only get down coffee and Water, but that isnt going to be pleasant. I hope you're not actually phyiscally hungry at the same time! Hang in there!

Thanks that makes me feel better. . . today is not too bad, I'm managing the 4oz of "food" but of course that "stuck" feeling is always there, except if i'm drinking the protein shakes or having cottage cheese, yogurt, and string cheese, but give me an egg or refried beans, and my goodness. . . next week i'm supposed to start on tuna! Lord, i'm having a problem with mushie refried beans, and now tuna? How do you all suggest i fix the tuna to make it go down better???????

2 weeks 3 days post op. I'm hungry, just can't eat much..... the things I manage to get down aren't the healthiest but I have to eat something. I'm still drinking protein shakes 1-2 per day. Today I had 2-1/2oz mashed potatoes thinned with beef broth, approx 2-3 oz yogurt, strained hot/sour soup, crystal light decaf ice tea and water. Tomorrow I'm going to try puréed hot/sour soup, seems to be my craving. I've only lost 10 lb since surgery but my clothes are falling off. My total weight loss to date is 43 lbs.

So I'm new to this but I had a hernia repair and a lap band revision to gastric sleeve on July 19th! I'm pretty excited with this new choice of life but confused at the same time. I never know if I'm eating enough I always have a rumble in my stomach. I'm not able to drink anymore than one bottle of Water a day. I sip on it all day but never exceeded one bottle. I know that's not good and I'm probably dehydrated but I feel stuffed after a few swallows but my stomach sounds like it needs food. I eat sf Jello, broth, Greek yogurt, and strained Soups but I'm not sure how much it too much. After two spoons of something I'm done. Is this normal?? My doctor has now allowed mushy foods. What should I eat and how much is normal? On the bright side I've lost a total of 19lbs but it sounds so unhealthy.

Post Op Lactose Intolerance...why?
ocean_ophelia replied to OilSooner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost four weeks post op and going through the same thing. Yogurt doesn't bother me, but milk does. I NEVER had an issue with lactose either, so it sucks that I do now. From what I understand, it's because lactose can be hard to digest, and your stomach just went through a major upheavel. Most people a few months out don't seem to have an issue, and I hope the same is true for us -
Post Op Lactose Intolerance...why?
Mandy1 replied to OilSooner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was searching for this topic and came across this thread. After my surgery, I'm now lactose intolerant. I'm four months out and I can tolerate a tiny bit of cheese or yogurt, but too much of either or any amount of milk and I get stomach pain and diarrhea. I hope this is a temporary effect and goes away eventually! -
Thought I'd share my discovery... I'm on day 4 of the pre op high Protein shake liquid diet. It's definitely challenging and quite a change from eating mindlessly for so long. I wanted to share some things I've discovered regarding the shakes. The shakes when Blended (ninja) can be really nasty to me. I have a box of unflavored and chocolate, I do a scoop of each with a lot of Water and 4 to 6 ounces of plain kefir and it is really drinkable! The tartness of the yogurt cuts down the sweetness from the Protein Powder . Sometimes I throw in a little bit of fruit and spinach as well. I also like my coffee hot not lukewarm ...but they say you can't mix protein with hot liquids because the texture changes, this is true. however... I found an awesome way to drink hot coffee with the protein and the same should hold true for Soups. I slowly slowly mixed two scoops of my protein powder into about 16 ounces of warm coffee I use the thermometer it was about 120 degrees comma if I poured too much protein it would come if I really took my time and adding a little bit it wouldn't call, once I managed to mix my two scoops with no clumps, I then I threw in the microwave for 40 seconds. it became really hot and smooth, no clumps!! I can't believe I've never read this everything on the instructions and everyone says that protein cannot be mixed with hot water but why didn't anyone ever think that we can just reheat it? Maybe this can help someone that likes Hot things like me. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

H Everyone! I'm 12 days post op and my recovery (RNY) is going well. I am currently at Stage 3 and am tolerating foods well. I have a question that I am hoping others can help me with. I constantly feel hungry even after eating/drinking. Is this normal? I am eating Soups, yogurt (no chunks). I have been drinking mostly Protein shakes (Carnation Instant Breakfast NSA) and drinking Water or Powerade Zero. I am able to eat 4 oz at a time with no issues and could possible eat more but I do not. From what I am reading from others, 4 oz at a time seems like a lot. I am sticking to the foods at my stage for the most part (I had a spoonful of rice the other day which I chewed like 30 times before swallowing). How much liquid is everyone getting in at a time? I take four sips max at a time but feel like I could take more. How long do you wait between sips? I guess my concern is that my pouch is bigger than it should be. I dont know how the mechanics of all this works so I plan on broaching this with my PA when I have my post op appt on Wednesday. Any feedback/insight from others is appreciated. TIA! :-)

Today I was nervous about starting the purée food stage. I dumped in the hospital from drinking too fast and I was afraid of trying something besides full liquids. I had 3 Oz of very thin grits for breakfast. I ate slow... I use a baby spoon to eat. For lunch I had a 5 Oz Greek yogurt. Then I had 3 Oz of unsweetened applesauce. I felt kinda hungry an hour later. So I reviewed my eating plan. I forgot to drink my 2 protein shakes for the day. Ooops. So now that I’ve had that. (Only one shake) I feel like I’ve eaten a full course meal on a holiday. Geesh I don’t want anything else.

How do i get my calories?
Chris R replied to Wls4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cottage cheese is a really good source of protein. It's also very tasty if you scramble 1/4 c of it with an egg. You could also try mixing flavored or unflavored protein powder with your greek yogurt to boost protein and calories. -
18 days post op
Angel11 replied to LosingIsWinning's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m experiencing the same! My surgery was 09/21/17 on Thursday & I weighed myself this past Thursday (at 1 week post op) & I lost 10lbs. I go see my surgeon & dietitian for my post op appointment tomorrow. I just weighed myself an hour ago (in the evening & not right in the morning like I usually do) & weighed the same from 3 days ago. I’m allowed to eat creamed soups, yogurts, sugar free pudding, popsicles & protein shakes. I’m getting about 40oz only too. I’m a little down. Maybe this week will be better? Keep your chin up! We will succeed!! -
I get like that when i have dairy milk..yogurt even my premier Protein shake.. it sucks but I still have em..I just make sure im home or close to a bathroom. our stomachs are still sensitive I guess

E A T I N G ...
BLERDgirl replied to Prada-Savassi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eggs & yogurt. I had just started purées. -
I was on pureed foods until week 4 post op. Not my favorite stage. I could not tolerate the texture of pureed meats si I lived on cottage cheese, yogurt, soFt cooked and mashed carrots and protein shakes. I was so excited when I got to transition to soft foods although it really did take some getting used to. I could eat three or four bites and I would be very full

Another way of making pancakes that is healthy and delicious is to mash up a banana and an egg, toss in some cinnamon and I like to add some pumpkin pie spice as well, and cook it like a regular pancake. It's really yummy! But I think I was told to wait until at least a couple months to try more solid food like that. If you're bored of the same old same old, you could try some of the things I really loved in the puree stage. My favorite was turkey or chicken chili from trader joe's with a dollop of low fat or fat free sour cream. It has a surprisingly satisfying texture even after being pureed. Another good one is cottage cheese or greek yogurt with pumkpin puree or refried black Beans and perhaps a little bit of taco sauce. I also enjoyed canned white meat chicken pureed with greek yogurt cream cheese and a little splash of cream of chicken Soup and a little splash of milk to make it all blend well - this tasted EXACTLY like hamburger helper, somehow. A bit further on when you get to soft foods, you can try my absolute soft food favorite - a turkey meatball or two mashed up with greek yogurt cream cheese (this exists and it is DELISH and it is much healthier than regular cream cheese) and about an ounce of cheddar. This one tastes exactly like beef stroganoff. I actually had some of this earlier today! As a meal, I make 3 turkey meatballs, 2 tbs of greek yogurt cream cheese, and 1 ounce of extra sharp cheddar. I eat it in two or three sittings, and it comes to 330 calories, 6 grams of carbs, and 29 grams of Protein. Yummy and good for you. It'll take you time to get used to eating a much more limited diet than most of us ate before surgery, but then you'll learn how to make new combos of healthy foods that taste good, leave you feeling full and satisfied for many hours, and give you a ton of protein and are healthy. You'll get there, and sooner than you think. Hang in there.

I'm new to this.... post-op 4 weeks and very scared
Tina1102 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone - I am from NYC but work and live in Abu Dhabi for the last 5 years. I recently had the gastric sleeve surgery in Egypt with a very reputable surgeon who was recommended to me by many. Everything went great thank God and I returned back to Abu Dhabi after the first week. I am currently here alone and my entire family is back in NY so it's been tough. I'm moving back next month but in the meantime I'm doing this all on my own. I don't have a dietitian here and no support groups and no one really knows I did this because I didn't want to share with people at work or acquaintances. I started at 180lbs and lost 15lbs so far, starting week 4 today. My doctor had me on clear liquids the first three weeks but allowed me to add yogurt, jello, and protein shakes for week 3 as well a multivitamin. Now that i'm starting week 4 he said I can eat anything but i'm so scared. Most of all scared because I feel like I can't taste anything anymore.... the weight is off but i'm scared this is too good to be true like everything else i've tried. I feel great and i'm not craving anything but am I supposed to be like this forever? I'm worried that I won't know what full feels... I guess I just get anxiety because there's no one to talk to and i'm not sure if what i'm feeling is normal. My family suggested finding a support group online until I go home so I'm hoping this will help. My mom also did the surgery back home in April and she's been doing great so she's always helping me when she can. Will these feelings pass? Will I be able to go out to dinner or just cook at home and eat more than two spoonfuls of food? Thank you for hearing my story. -
All of our diets are different so it is hard to say, but for me I am on soft foods and this is what I eat: 7:30 am breakfast (egg salad, cottage cheese or cream of wheat) 8:30 a.m. at work and I drink water all morning 12 p.m. lunch( yogurt, etc. ) 1 p.m. drink water all afternoon 5:30 p.m. dinner (puree chicken, fish or beans) 8 p.m. protein shake with 30 g protein 11 pm. bed All my food equals 30 g protein and my one protein shake equals 30= 60 g

Week 3 - purée stage - how do u know when to stop ?
LowBMISleever replied to pnt38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan says 1oz portions. I'm not supposed to start puree until tomorrow, but I tried a tiny bit of fat-free cottage cheese just now because well I'm a bad person, lol. 1 oz of cottage cheese was a joke. I felt no restriction. I could've easily eaten the entire 4oz container, just like I can down 4oz of drinkable yogurt. I imagine and hope pureed meat will go down differently. Hopefully I'll feel some restriction. 1 oz just seems insanely low. How am I supposed to get my Protein in? Eat 20 1oz portions a day?! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So, last night I was tired and went to bed early. I woke up about 3am to use the restroom and passed out while standing at the toilet... Bashed my face into the throne and then passed out again a couple minutes later while washing my hands. I was still feeling off this morning and went to the ER. I had eaten a fiber one protein bar and Greek yogurt before deciding to go in. They ran a few tests and have me fluids... My blood sugar was only 60 even after eating. I've never passed out or had problems with low blood sugar before. I had steak and baked potato for dinner and a pear for a snack before heading off to bed. Could the sugar in the pear have sent me into a hypoglycemic crash? Anyone have any experience with this 8 months after RNY surgery? From what I've read this seems like a problem people run into later after surgery (18-24 months) and usually from eating sugary foods.

Can we talk carbs?
Clementine Sky replied to magoosmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's fantastic! When it comes to carbs I think quality and quantity are both imperative. Wholesome forms of it in modest amounts can be beneficial. I do have to be mindful about how many carbs I eat, but actually have found that I lose the most weight, feel the best, and can sustain weight loss if I stay in the 50 to 100 or thereabouts range. I used to lose a lot of weight with very low carb diets, and then gain it all right back. I'll typically have a breakfast that is higher in carbs (high Protein Greek yogurt smoothie where the carbs are from fruit and kale, or oatmeal with unflavored Protein powder blended in), and scale back with the other meals and Snacks. I haven't lost anywhere close to 130 pounds (extremely impressive!), but I have lost enough to go from a BMI of 32 to 19.1 as of today. My weight loss over the past year has been relatively slow, probably in part because of having more carbs, but the silver lining has been minimal hair loss, absolutely no loose skin, and no regain. -
My nut doesn't like any oatmeal or yogurts that have more than 10g sugar. For yogurt it can be hard to find Protein and low sugar unless you go Greek and I do triple zeros. I found oatmeal the same and that the think thin and some other more high end brands had similar stats. I have not had blood work yet, I can only share that carb goal and say that I have enjoyed the think thin but it does feel like a lot of calories when most of my Breakfast "meals" are less than 100 calories. But maybe that is good since I worry I am slowing with loss due to low calories.

This is my first post y'all! I just got back from having my sleeve done in Mexico with Dr. Ortiz and Alighterme (I definitely recommend them!). I am 5 days post op and I am eating like a snail. I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and was vomiting my whole first night and am so paranoid about leaks even though the leak tests were clear. Other than some acid reflux, gas, and mild soreness, I feel great! I had some general questions and everyone on here is so amazingly kind and encouraging. It's strange to go from researching on this forum to actually commenting as a sleever. I think it's all still sinking in! -did anyone else have a lot of acid reflux the first couple of weeks? I'm trying to figure out if it happens when I'm "hungry" since I don't really feel hungry or if its because something I drank is coming back up. My doctor told me I could have Protein shakes, broth, liquids, yogurt, and Jello. I've been taking it slow but still dealing with the gas and acid. -when does the gassiness go away?! -how likely are you to pop a stitch from eating too much? Can it be caused by the gas and bloating? Any answers to any of the questions is so appreciated! Good luck to everyone on their journeys!

Onederland! What a year it's been.
Sue Magoo replied to Sue Magoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Brenda: I think that I can attribute my 125 pounds to the following: 1. Walking at least 1 1/2 hours 6 days per week. 2. Night time tv snack - sugar free popsicles. 3. Support of family, friends, lap band surgical group, lap band support group, and lapband talk support. 4. Keeping food that I shouldn't eat out of the house. 5. When I really wanted a snack, like frozen yogurt, I would have it as long as I could walk to get it, have it, and walk back home. 6. My MP3 Player puts me into a world where the walking is fun and I try to walk to the beat of faster music. I hope that you find what works best for you. Take care. Sue
