Sleeve revision to bypass
Losingit2018 replied to Colorchic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@ Beckyonthebeach it is normal to be able to drink more after bypass. Your pyloric valve is no longer in tact. Therefore the fluid is able to pass right through your pouch. -
Our doctors no longer utilize opiates for pain control. I am terrified this go around. This surgery is a revision to bypass. They give you a high dose of Gabapentin in the morning before surgery and IV Tylenol after. After the sleeve I had a pca pump for 24 hrs and went home with a strong pain med for 1 week. I am terrified because I have Crohns amd my intestines are prone to spasm.

What's your experience w/the Dumping Syndrome?
How long did it last?
How did you cope w/it?
Has the dumping syndrome gotten worse each time more as the years go by?
I had the Gastric Bypass in 7/2015. The last couple of times i got the Dumping Syndrome twice last year, and once this year have been the worst. My last one was on Easter Sunday. I felt Fatigue, nauseous, gagging, shortness of breath, laid down holding my tummy, wanting to cry, feeling desperate, it got to a point where i basically was unconscious. Is it normal to fall asleep without no warning and waking up out of nowhere to "wth happened, how long was i out for"? It's gotten scary, and don't know if this is part of the dumping syndrome. I've had more times but not as bad as the last couple of times. 😢

I just went back to work on Monday after 4 weeks off for my gastric bypass. My advice is to stick with lunch foods you are familiar with and don't try something new at work. You may be tired at the end of your shift. I got dizzy and lightheaded towards the end of the day. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm in the same boat. 5 weeks out from bypass and only down 15 lbs. I've followed the plan. My stall started at week two and was so frustrating.

How long before you went back to work?
CindeeAT replied to artsie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had gastric bypass on a Wednesday and was back in the office on Monday. I was a little bit tired but other than that no issues. -
Hi, I'm new to this forum but wanted to post. I had the gastric bypass almost 10 years ago. Followed all the rules. Lost 130lbs and then gained 27 lbs back in the last 2 years. From what I understand it isn't the pouch that stretches, it's the hole between the pouch and the intestines that stretches allowing more food through and can actually stretch your intestines, which is can be dangerous. Some patients who have gained weight have gone back and had the hole made smaller, back to the post-surgery size. I have relost 13 lbs and have 14 to go....it's a daily lifestyle change that I have to stick to!

Feeling full or gassy?!

Your stomach doesn't really change shape or shrink while you have the balloon in, so there's nothing stopping you from reverting to all your previous habits and re-indulging and putting all the weight back on. Nothing except yourself, that is. But 6 months is enough time to re-learn portion control; I have a much better idea now what my body actually needs to live, and what a reasonable serving size is. If I maintain these good habits (exercise, calorie moderation) then I'll do well and continue to lose, and if I backslide, I won't do well. But this is true of any weight loss procedure, as you can have even a traditional gastric bypass and gain weight if you aren't making smart, conscious decisions about what you eat, so I don't feel that I'm at that big of a disadvantage now that the training wheels have come off.

So today is the first day of my (Liver Shrink) Pre-Op Diet. My GBS is April 30th. Gulp. I’m a sleeve to by-pass revision. New surgery due to esophageal damage from GERD and regain 😞. Moving forward with my head held high, using my mantra “it’s just fuel” to change my thinking about my former best friend named food. Wish me luck!

New here looking for advice
Briswife15 replied to somegal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the hospital 3 days and 2 nights for my bypass. The most important thing I brought was my cell phone charger!! Wish I had brought a toothbrush and toothpaste. You don't need much. Don't over pack. I wore stretchy sweatpants and a loose top with no bra to the hospital and wore the same thing home. I couldn't wear a bra for about a week because I had an incision in the front where my bra would rub. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am a revision from RNY to DS. I will be self financed as my insurance turned me down for this 2 years ago. I am back going through the pre-tests, etc. They have me seeing the nutritionist for the 3 months as before. My understanding previously is that the 3 month requirement is for insurance purposes. Since I am not going through insurance I asked if this was still a requirement. I have done all the other tests and have been cleared. I was told that I had to do the 3 month nutritionist. It doesn't make much sense to me since I am a revision, understand all the dietary requirements (also since I did the 3 month nutrition 2 years ago) and the last time lost 10 lbs. Needless to say I am not getting much in the way of true responses just "this is what you have to do". So I am doing it. My question is, does anyone know if I can get "denied" if I don't lose any or enough weight? I have stayed the same weight for 2 years (even the doctor noted that I am stable). I have terrible back issues (another reason for surgery so I can exercise and avoid back surgery) so I can't really exercise. I was down at my goal weight for 9 years, totally know how I gained the weight back (tragic family situations and I stopped paying attention to my food and exercise, typical...) and am ready for the surgery. Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences where they were "turned down" due to weight loss or lack of? Given that I am getting on the scale every day, I know I am the same. Any thoughts/insight would be appreciated.

Feeling Pressure (Gas?) in Chest after drinking/eating
Briswife15 replied to ChubbyBunny_x's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What kind of protein shake are you drinking? Did you have the sleeve or bypass? You could have developed lactose intolerance. Try whey protein isolates not concentrates. Easier on the pouch. Good luck. I find I get pressure in my chest (pouch) if I drink too fast. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Sleeve revision to bypass
Beckyonthebeach replied to Colorchic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision on Thurs 4/18. Besides gas pains the first two days, I’m doing well. I am a little worried that I don’t feel the restriction I did with the sleeve at the beginning. I can drink as much as I want without any pain. -
1year out, stomach pain?
seora replied to Keira Fae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 7 months out, was having this pain. I had a cat scan done just to see what was wrong and they were like it’s nothing you maybe had gastritis (they didn’t even knowwwww). I’ve been taking Prilosec for the last two weeks and symptoms are the same. My co-worker whose mom had gastric bypass said that she had scar tissue form around the stomach area that was cut. If I keep having this pain I will definitely get an endoscopy so they can see if that’s the case. -
Hey I'm here with you!! I have the lap band! I am only a week and 4 days post op... Was able to transition to Mushy foods!! That's expected with the band you lose weight slower than you would with sleeve or bypass. You will have to put in some work! Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone had full bypass surgery??
taylormomto6 replied to allies journey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was revised 2/12/19. I was released from the hospital the evening of the day, mostly because I pushed to be released. When I woke up after surgery I was nauseous and dry heaving, but after a couple of hours it passed and I was walking 3 hours later. I was not allowed any liquids or anything until around noon the next day after they did the barium swallow test to make sure there were no leaks. After that they had me slowly introduce water, gradually adding a bit more each hour and by around 4 they brought me a tray with broth, iced tea and sf jello. If I could keep a few bites down I was good to go. I never had narcotic pain meds, just IV tylenol. I really didn’t have much pain but I did get a headache that wouldn’t go away. When I came home I was good, not exhausted like many. I’m not normally a napper and didn’t even nap when lounging around the days after surgery. By 2-3 days home I slept on my side and tummy, was getting in 40oz of fluid and about 30-40 g of protein in shakes. I have felt great. Surgery day weight was 230lbs, today I’m at 196.7. I’m getting about 600-700 calories a day in, 50-70g of protein and about 25 carbs. Because I’m a revision I am extra careful about what I’m eating and am on guard about making sure I’m not grazing. I’m determined not to fail this surgery! -

Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!
snezanafloyer replied to MinnieSD's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi there, I am very glad that I decided on the bypass as I too have noticed quite a few people ending up having the bypass after the sleeve op. What I will say, though, is that I do still feel hunger but am able to control it more and so I am keeping to what I must do. It has been a sharp learning curve in terms of what kinds of food I can eat at different stages as my body adjusts and the process is ongoing. This is hard work but worth it in the long run. The worst bit has definitely been a bit of the ‘dumping syndrome’ and getting some food stuck at the pouch opening but I now know what to do to avoid these occasions. I am so glad I had bought several books on bariatric Surgery and the bypass as they have been very helpful indeed. This forum is great too but I would love to meet some people here in North Devon in a group setting as well so we can discuss different things. This kind of thing gives reassurance from concerns. -

MSMITCHELL43 replied to MSMITCHELL43's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 13 days post op and I have lost 23 pounds don’t know if that is considered good with the surgery I had I mean it’s good for me cause I lost it but I had the duodenal switch surgery and just was wondering if I was doing ok with the amount of weight I’m loosing I do know some people that has had the bypass and lost 50 pounds the first month n a total of 75 in 2 months guess I want that type of success story but everyone is different -
I was type2 for 20yrs before gastric bypass July 2017. Nearly 2 yrs later I’m still on metformin. I’m down to 66kg (145lbs) from 98kg (198lbs). Getting rid of the diabetes was the main factor in having a gastric bypass procedure. Feeling disheartened, I’m vegetarian and therefore have beans and lentils (carbs) for my protein uptake. Anyone in the same situation?
