Need Sleeve revision but..,
Shrinking_Shamrock posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Starting weight was 219, current weight 171, lowest weight 158, still classified as obese. Had my surgery 3 years ago and am doing everything right but my body is on strike as far as dropping the weight. My main question is (yeah, I know, I shoulda said, "hey everyone I've got a question", ...sorry).., will the state Medicaid/Medicare pay for it or will I have to pinch my pennies to afford it? Sent from my SM-J260T1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I have real hunger too and it started maybe 4-6 months post op. I have noticed that: foods with higher sugar/carb content make me hungrier for more foods, thinner foods even proteins will leave me hungrier quicker as well, drinking more makes me less hungry especially hot things, I cycle different varieties of foods in and out of my schedule, I revise and remove things from my diet as often as I need to when they no longer work for me, clean salads are like freebies in that I can eat as much as I want and its still only like 100 safe cals. Lots of trial and error in a safe space has helped. Don't give up for a moment. 💜

Getting Out Of a Stall
Aprilgal replied to GradyCat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations @GradyCat! I am only post op week 3 so I don't know much - a former co-worker of mine was a 'slow loser'. She was actually the person who began to talk to me about wls...she told me that her son had vsg and hit his goal weight in 6 months, which ticked her off 😋. It took my former colleague who had bypass 18 months to reach her goal weight - she lost 120 pounds. To me, she is a total success story and I really admire her for sticking to her lifestyle and staying focused. She has been at goal weight for almost 15 years. I must admit though I tell myself each day I'm sticking to the plan and weight will eventually come off I am happy for and a tad bit jealous of the people who are all, 'I lost twenty pounds in two weeks post op'. I just keep telling myself just focus on the plan, but I think you are amazing, too. You are always upbeat and supportive. -
Hi! I’ve had regain after the sleeve. I am wanting to convert to a bypass. Has anyone done that? Also wondering what people’s reaction are to you after telling them your doing weight loss surgery twice? I usually don’t care what people think except my family but I think they will be judge mental.

I am 7.5 months out from gastric bypass and i have lost 117 pounds. Things are going well so far and I am happy I made this decision!

I had RNY gastric bypass 6 1/2 weeks ago and I am down 27 pounds since the day of surgery. The pace may be slower than some others but I am very happy with my progress.

Surgery is tomorrow and I think my anxiety has gone through the roof
bubbz333 replied to Jon_gets_skinny's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Jon_gets_skinny How are you doing? How did everything go with your surgery? My surgery is just under 3 weeks away and this is my second one (being revised to bypass from sleeve) and I am so nervous. -
Today marks one week since my gastric bypass. It has been a rough start, but I’m feeling and getting better everyday. I make sure I’m walking at least 30 minutes every day. I am still struggling with hunger. But I assume —it is my hope— that the hunger goes away. I have 12 days until my first follow-up appointment. At that point, I hope the doctor will move me to the next level. I’ve dropped 10 pounds since surgery day. It’s a struggle, but I’m taking it one day at a time.

Okay I went from sleeve to bypass on December 31, 2018, I have lost a total of 35 pounds since then and have not lost any more... I work out at the gym, and I literally count my calories and eat healthy. I also am worried that this surgery is not gonna work because unlike most people who have had bypass I can eat anything and everything ( I don't though) I never get sick, and I am always hungry. Is it possible that I am just an unlucky person that will never lose weight. I did not go through a second surgery to lose only 35 pounds...has anyone experienced this?

Gastric Sleeve to Bypass revision
krash11 replied to Chaelove0810's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve for 3 years before my revision. I lost twenty lbs initially then re-gained 60 lbs. There was no restriction at all. I also developed Barrett's Esophagus from the gerd. Since getting the revision in December, I have lost 42 lbs and the reflux is gone. Don't hesitate to do it. -
Revision surgery from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve
ProudGrammy replied to Lelina's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@Lelina what was the reason doc suggested sleeve over mini gastric bypass? it's always good to listen to your surgeon - butttt find answers to your questions before you make a major decision between surgeries. read up on the two (2) surgeries, talk to doc again, then you'll be more informed as to which WLS is better for you. At the end of the day, its your body and choice!☺️ knowledge is power!! good luck kathy -
Revision surgery from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve
NYC_PAULA replied to Lelina's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was in the same boat. I had my band removed and did the sleeve. I'm only 2 1/2 months out and very happy with the results. I had a lot of acid reflux when I had the band (because it slipped) so my surgeon had me do extra tests to make sure that the sleeve was a good option for me vs gastric bypass. We decided it was and I have to say I'm very happy with it so far. I'm on daily acid reflux medication as a precaution but I haven't experienced any reflux since surgery. Good luck. -
I had a sleeve revision to MGB a couple of years ago. Im almost back to my original weight. The reflux has put me in a really bad place and just had 3 tests done to figure out what is going on. I found out today that when my MGB was done that the pouch created was almost the size of a regular stomach, so my best advice is to do your research when it comes to your doctor and know their process and success rate. If they have 98 amazing outcomes and 2 bad....don't dismiss the 2 bad ones....Im one of those and Im miserable.

Had my third test today, an endoscopy. I was in a twilight sleep, but very aware of what was being said during it (it's always fun when you hear several people in the room saw "WOW"). The doctors were in awe. They said that the pouch that was created to be my new stomach was not made nearly as small as it needed to be. It was basically almost the same size as a normal stomach and because of the locations where they decided to cut, that by body was basically mass producing acid and bile and it caused a large series of ulcers. Once they treat the ulcers, they need to revise the surgery again because this will just keep happening. Hindsight is always 20/20 but the MGB was definitely a mistake for me personally

February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Did you just start taking the medicine? I had gastric bypass and had to start taking Ursodial (brand name Actigall) right after I got home, one capsule twice a day, to prevent gall stones. Of course for the first 8 weeks I had to empty the capsules as I couldn't swallow them. Blech. I now can take the capsules whole and I do with as much water as I can swallow. You have to take it for several months for it to be effective and I've been told to take it for 6 months. I have not had any nausea with it, thankfully. I take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and at night before bed. On the Web it says common side effects include stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, back pain, hair loss, or cough. Maybe your doctor can prescribe an alternative? -
I dealt with stomach pain before and am dealing with it now. Been on 6 weeks of protonix faithfully and no change. I have 3 more weeks to see a change and if not I'm going to do an endoscopy. I'm not sure if I regret the sleeve or not. Also, I have only lost 2 pounds this month and am only 2 months out. I have however lost 45 pounds. I'm not sure if I would do a revision or not. Maybe if it was the shortest bypass allowable. Not sure if that would help me or not?

Revision surgery from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve
Lelina posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just saw my gastric surgeon today and he definitely suggests taking out my Lap Band but revising it to gastric sleeve. I am quite confused, which one should I do, sleeve or mini gastric bypass? Thanks everybody for answering, in advance -
Lost over 130lbs, never dieted, crash coming soon?
deltagirl93 posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hi, I had a revision from the lap-band to SIPS on 2/14/18. While I eat better by cooking more and making better choices, I'm by far not a perfect eater. I don't count carbs, fat grams, calories, or anything. I just have my meals and try as best I can to eat a "reasonable" amount. I am big on exercise, and I do that for 4-5 days a week for at least an hour to two hours. I have lost weight every single month since the surgery, from as high as 21lbs one month to .2 another month, but again, every month has been a losing month. I'm down from 296.7 to 160.8 as of today which is a little over 14 months out. BMI charts say for my height, I should be around 155lbs. I'm thinking that this is just too good to be true. When is it all going to start caving in or catching up with me? Will I really have to diet or count calories at some point to maintain or is this really my new life. Because if it is, I can really live with this. Anyone else not really dieting, but still losing? -
I’m 7 months post op from Gastric Bypass and I’ve lost 100lbs. Before surgery I lost 21lbs

Good morning! RNY revision 4/3/19 HW 271 SW 260 CW 250 is anyone else having a hard time getting all liquids and calories in? I’ve been so tired. My surgeon told me to eat 800 calories a day and drink at least 64 oz. I’m finding it hard with 30 mins before/after eating. also. When can we have real coffee? 🤣🤣

I’m just sharing info in case there are people who aren’t aware of this option. I know some people get very bad GERD after the sleeve that can’t be controlled by medications. I was told the only other option would be to convert to bypass (which is why I ended up choosing RNY). Turns out another option is out there. I’m a nurse practitioner and went to a meeting last week that included dinner and an educational presentation. The presentation was done by both a GI doctor and bariatric surgeon. They were talking about the Lynx procedure. The simplest way I can explain it is to imagine a beaded bracelet that goes around the esophagus. It applies enough pressure to stop the regurg. Complication rates are low. The bariatric surgeon said he has had excellent results for his sleeve patients. He said right now the procedure is still off label for bariatric but the literature on it will be published later this year. Just something to think about or to ask your physician about if you are having GERD issues. If your physician wants more info he can contact a LYNX rep or I can share the name of the surgeon who presented.

Gastric Sleeve to Bypass revision
Chaelove0810 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My name is Michaela I am 29 I am considering getting a revision to the gastric bypass. I had the sleeve exactly 3 years ago. I am 5’4 at my heaviest I was 272 and got down to 174 now I’m back up to 222. I am super depressed because I don’t know how I let this get this bad. I’m looking for stories of people who have had this revision and what made them decided to do it and how much the have lost so far. Also people who are looking into getting the surgery and what made you decide to look into it.
