The doctor is converting my sleeve to the bypass and shave the pouch. Thank you for the support.

My doctor decided he is going to convert my sleeve to a bypass and shave the pouch. I am going on 5/6 to discuss the surgery.

Why are you doing the revision? What is your BMI? What type of surgery did you do previously? I am working on the samething. For me it means more testing. Sent from my SM-J727T1 using BariatricPal mobile app

I was denied in 24 hours for my revision. My surgeon stated that she is going to do an appeal however she used a different word was to upset to remember the word. I know it starts with a P. Oh well life goes on time to get some diet pills.

My family knows someone who died from gastric bypass 20 years ago. I have chosen not to tell my family until I am done with my procedure. I have 4 children as well so it means that my hubby (the only one who knows) is going to have to hold the load for awhile until I recover but I feel its best. I'm hoping that I can have the surgery around the start of the school year so the kids will be gone most of the day (the ages of my kids are 6-16, which helps). My mom often told me when I was a teen "If you go skydiving, don't tell me until your down on the ground safely." I kind of feel like that is what I will be doing. I do feel bad about it though. We also live in different states so it is a bit easier to get away with this. keep your chin up friend! I applaud that you are doing whats best for YOU and dont listen to anyone who gets in the way with that! Also, you may feel like everyone is against you on this but you have thousands of people standing beside you on this fourm. So girl, you do you and do it well. The best of luck. Stephie

I need to go back on the 6th to discuss the next step. I had the Endo today and the pouch is too big on one end. He was going to shave it and decided he should do the bypass. Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

@Goal_Digger Thank you. You are right, I believe fear has a lot to do with it. My family knows someone who almost died from complications after gastric bypass surgery many years ago. So now they are all against any type of weight loss surgery.

Well they did pay attention after all, so glad he says he can fix it and also give you your bypass. Have you gotten a firm date or is he going to go for a day when he doesn't have a lot of other things that need his attention?😝

I just came back from the doctor he is going to covert to the bypass and fix the sleeve pouch.

April 2019 Surgeries!
ChocoBabe replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had my gastric bypass last Tuesday 23rd April. After checking in at 11am the wait was horrendous. I hadn’t drank anything since check in and my surgery was delayed by hrs I finally went in at 7pm and was woken up in recovery by 2am. My pain threshold is terrible so, when women I was in so much pain. I hated every second of it. Upon going back to my room I couldn’t stomach any fluids for 48hrs. Anything I drank came right back up, the vomiting and heaving was so so painful. They tried giving me juice and very thin soups but that didn’t work. In fact the smell of soup actually made me sick. Bless the nurses, they really tried o help me by offering me different soups but to no avail. Since I couldn’t keep anything down, my pulse and blood pressure went up and I was dehydrated which meant I had to stay in hospital. But different anti-sickness meds were given to me and I was put back on a drip fluids an morphine for the pain. After getting a nights rest I finally was able to start keeping fluids down. Sip by sip I started tolerating fluids again. Pressure and pulse went back to normal and dehydration got better. After 4 nights in hospital I was sent home. Thank God. I thought it would be great to be back in my own bed but I was mistaken. If only I could take the adjustable hospital bed home. I was so uncomfortable for the 1st 2 nights but as the pain slowly gets better I am finding comfort. I found a hot water bottle my grace. Drinking water is easy for me now but I’m still struggling with soups. The nausea has gone but I’m so full on the water that I can only have 1-2 spoon fulls of soup then I’m done. As for moving around. I’m up and about more now. But it was such a struggle to just walk 250m down the road, I would get so out of breath. Now on day 7 after surgery I can walk around more without getting out of breath but I DON’T over exert myself. I’m hoping to start working out again after day 14. This is just the start of my journey and without a doubt I am excited. My weight so far H/W April 2018 - 280lbs 1wk b4 surgery 16th April - 260lbs Weight 27th April 2019 - 249lbs Good luck to you all in this amazing journey -
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

I'm having my bypass at 58 but I feel great since losing my weight from the sleeve. I can afford to lose a few more pounds with the bypass. Sent from my SM-J337P using BariatricPal mobile app -

Yes I have always had problems with acid reflux, but I was on 20 mg twice a day. I never had it coming up on me in the middle of the night until I had the sleeve. They are going to fix my hernia at the same time they do the bypass. I'll have all my prerequisites done by July. I'll keep you posted if you want. Why would you not be fertile anymore? We have more than a few who had VSG or RNY or DS first and are now blissfully expecting. YOUR babies tend to be slightly smaller, 6 pounds as opposed to 9 pounds, but every poster says they come out healthy and screaming their little heads off. She is obviously thinking with her gut instead of her brain. Mama is supposed to want what is best for her little girl, I'm sure this was not a flippant decision on your part, even if she doesn't totally understand, she should be grateful she raised a strong daughter and support your desire to be smaller and healthier. I have been a Mama for 50+ years, an recovering RYN bypassed for 8 months, so I have experienced both sides of the coin , therefore I am a advisor to anyone who will listen. And if she can't be proud of you decisions, I am and I wish, you only the best of everything!

A girl in my FB group has bypass and is vegetarian. She eats dairy and eggs, though. Vegans can also have the surgery, but they rely on beans and soy product a lot. They sell separate supplements with amino acids in them for vegans/vegetarians. I get the vast majority of my protein from dairy (cottage cheese).

February 2019 weight loss buds
froufrou replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yay, hard work is paying off... lost a pound! I'm 3 lbs away from a 100 pound total loss (via sleeve and bypass). I can't quite believe it. -
Update from me: I still feel pretty cruddy all the time, but better than I was a couple months ago. I’m traveling right now and (for better or worse) have figured out that I can eat more types of food than I thought i could. Pretty much only rice and fluffy bread make me feel worse than other things). The good thing (and, frankly, the bad thing) is that I’ve been able to enjoy the food in Portugal. Mostly eggs for breakfast and seafood for dinner, with a coffee break during the day. I’ve had a couple half glasses of wine (basically one a week) and a couple mini-pastries (OK, more than a couple, but at least they make them small). I’ve still eaten far less than I would normally on vacation. I haven’t been on a scale in two weeks, but I feel like I might have gained (I’ve NEVER gained traveling, I always lose). I’ll have to see if its all in my head when I get home. Overall, I don’t regret the things I shouldn’t have eaten, but I have no desire to continue to eat like this at home. so, that’s good. It was also nice having some time off logging everything I ate (since I have no idea what I was eating half the time) - again, happy to get back to it once I’m home. I have another few days over here visiting friends, then back to the grind. . It is nice to fit better in airplane seats and have no problem walking up and down (and up and down and up and down....) the MANY STEEP hills in Portugal, but it still isn’t worth feeling like crud every day. I still have a vain hope that one day I wont feel like total crap every day, but after 6 months, that hope is kind of fading. But, the more I think about it all, the more I realize I’m not converting to bypass. It would have been far too hard to get around and eat over here if I was in danger of having dumping - and that’s even if I’d skipped the pastries. And travel is far too important to me to make it any harder to do. Hope everyone else is doing well 6 months out ( I suppose some of you are closer to 7 months now - I had my surgery in late October).

Hey there good to see you're making a change. Not being rude but would 736 be some kind of record? If you need a friend I'm here. Are you having bypass..

Gastric Bypass questions/concerns
ddeegan2 replied to ddeegan2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for replying! I have a caliper that is very very cheap so I gave up using after it told me I was 8% one time and like 35% the next time (haha) and there's a machine that's at my gym that gives you all kinds of information, including body fat. It rates me between 15 and 18% depending on the day. That is utter nonsense though because by all accounts i am still "fat". I look and feel like I could easily lose 40-50lbs from my abdomen and inner thighs alone. I was using a trainer for a time and am friends with the training staff at my gym but none of them have knowledge about bariatric patients, including their nutritionist. It feels like two different worlds to me - the gym environment and the bariatric environment. Neither one appears to have legit knowledge about the other. This is part of the reason I've been stressing about this. I need to know where the balance is. I'd also love to know if it's possible for me to actually use this surgery after 12 months for something other than creating a toxic bathroom and buying lots of vitamins for the rest of my life! You would think that would be covered day one of your consultation, but I feel like it's skimmed over in minor detail, and when I asked the simple question I got five different answers from five different medical experts. If you google something like "gastric bypass two years later" there's next to nothing other than a few weight gain articles and one forum post that says "gastric bypass 8 years later and out of control!" I am also very interested in talking to someone who knows both athletics and bariatric stuff. The nutritionist at my hospital comes across like she mostly deals with older people who cannot/do not exercise and doesn't really know my needs. And I'm scared about how hungry I am all the time. I feel like I did this for nothing :( -
Sorry. I see bypass. Hope you recover soon!!

Anyone have blue cross blue shield (federal) that has had revision or going thru the process? I am trying to get options/opinions.. I have about 6 months before I will be able to do this (pregnancy) but my gerd has been a monster for the last year and even worse with this pregnancy.. I have only gained 7 lbs so not worried about weight loss issue, although it will be helpful after my pregnancy to lose the additional baby weight.. called my insurance today and I think they were confused on what I was asking.. I just want to know what I have to do to be covered by my insurance to have revision done??

April 2019 Surgeries!
Jennifer22672 replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to all those still having surgery this month. I hope everything goes well. To all those who have already had surgery, how are things going? I had my bypass on April 11th. At my 2-week follow-up appointment last week, I was down 10.5 pounds. My doctor said I was on track, they hope to see a 10% loss of excess weight at that first appointment. I was at 14%. I weighed this morning and I have lost 4 more pounds since then. So, while I’m not losing a huge amount, I am very glad to see the scale going in the correct direction. 👍🏻 I am eating soft foods (cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cheese, eggs, tuna, etc). I am a pescatarian (no meat except seafood) so I am struggling to find a variety of protein choices. I am not in any pain and my energy level is almost back to normal. My most annoying problem (and I never thought I would have this problem!) is not wanting to eat at all. I know I have to have protein, but it is hard to force myself to eat sometimes. It is an odd feeling. I am struggling with not wanting any food. I get my 64 oz liquids in easily, though.
