  1. Which surgery did you have? At my clinic, sleeve patients have post-OP clear liquids for quite a while, whereas bypass patients start right on full liquids right after surgery. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Thanks so much for your reply. I've been thinking in old "maintain weight" rules. I'm down to a size 2 and losing . No appetite whatsoever. Nothing tastes good...almost anorexic. Wish I could do reversal, but don't know if it's possible. I revised from VBG because of severe acid reflux. Told could only do Bypass. Now, I feel as I may literally die eariy if I don't get rid of this. I don't cook, so that's out. Frozen meals if Im lucky can do 8 to 10 bites. And that's a 340 calorie total meal. Im probably absorbing about 600 to 700 calories a day if I'm lucky. I think I'm getting anorexic. I have a total revulsion to food. Nothing tastes good! Don't have the energy to even drive to buy milkshakes every day. Can barely get to hematologist. On Vit B12 injections for past 4 weeks, had first Iron infusion last week, getting another next Tuesday. Also taking double dose of strong 8 wk Vit D therapy. Labs are getting much better, but still feel like hell. Super anxiety, memory loss, I am totally overwhelmed. Crying as I'm writing this. God, I wish I had done intensive therapy before I started all of this. It IS the answer for so many, but not for me now at 67. My health is more important. Even though I was obese for 15 years, I had no chronic health conditions. But fearing I would, I chose weight loss surgery. Now, I'm fearing Im going to die early from this. IF a reversal is possible, not even sure I would be a good candidate for surgery until I can get stronger.

    Having the reversal

HELP...I didn't know you could do reversal....that's what I want!! I revised from VBG to Bypass 2012. 67 yrs old. Now losing too much weight, feel horrible. bad labs, live by myself. No appetite, no one to keep me on track, horrible memory from deficiencies. I'm not concerned about regain. I've learned how to control my eating habits. Was not morbidly obese until severe trauma and grief, resolved those. I know how to maintain my weight now. But, I'm not willing to commit to maintaining all that is does as older bypass patient. Do you know how I would find out if you can revise from Vbg/Bypass/Reversal. Is this possible? When VBG was revised, said only option was to revise to Bypass. Any advice you could give would be most helpful.

    How long

And I had no pain then, mine came a few weeks later when I developed a stricture. Every day- in so many ways- you will start to feel better, right now you and your body have been through a lot together. It was Major Surgery so be kind to You, the ones who boast of being dismissed and going right to the mall shopping are a very small minority. Even I had moments of What Did I Do To Me? And I worked over 3 years to gain my RNY bypass, so I wanted it very badly. Yeah not pain per se but I did feel like somebodythrew me ovee a cliff and left me in a heap below. My 72 year old belly felt I had gone through the most extensive Gym Workout of my life. You can vent to us as much as you want, the futurebenefits are surely there, but this initiation is ROUGH. I owe you one big hug as soon as you're less tender!

    Band removal after 10 years

Hello Randi, thanks for starting this conversation! I'm a lurker myself and I finally decided to do something. First thing being taking my lapband this morning!![emoji114][emoji114][emoji114][emoji114]. It was 7 years of a horrible relationship!! This past month was the final end and with the inspiration of those I've read on bariatricpal, I saw my surgeon last week, insurance approved the removal in 2 days after my initial consultation. I'm waiting for the approval for gastric sleeve revision that was submitted 4/30. I'm hoping not to go through the hoops again!🤞🤞 My surgeon wants to wait 2 to 3 months between removal and revision which I'm fine with although I was initially gutted I couldn't do it simultaneously! I agreed with her reasoning. I've been up and about since removal this morning and will be going to work on Sunday with no problems. I hope to get the sleeve end of summer after a worry and lapband free summer holiday. I'm 5'3" and 199lbs as of this morning. So "low" BMI within a hair's breath of 35 (drank some Water at the surgeon consultation[emoji3]). Totally beyond stalled with the lapband and hated life after the band! Paid out of pocket too[emoji25][emoji25]. Everyone here has been inspirational and I pray to actually get to a weight I've thought was impossible and I hope to share for that person like me. BCBSIL anyone? How long to approve?

I had the sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and because I have such severe reflux disease I am now jumping through the hoops and waiting to get approval from my insurance companies to get the revision surgery for the RNY. It happens quite often apparently and I had no clue or i would of just had RNY the first time. My surgeon thought sleeve surgery was best at the time but my gastrointestinal doctor said it was the worst surgery for me because now the acids and foods have no place to go so it keeps going back up my throat constantly. Fingers crossed it will be approved soon. Good luck with your journey e everyone.. Allie in SC Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

  10. A few important questions!! So anxious rHello all! I am currently thinking of moving forward with revision surgery. So far I have gained 57lbs and counting. Has anyone been cleared for revision surgery (or first timers ) with a low BMI? i will be self paying but not sure that it matters. For self-payers , what were the requirements to be approved - if any? how was your initial revision consultation? How long did it take from initial consult till your surgery date? Thank you you so much for your help in advance!!!! Love having support.
  11. Hi all! I am currently deciding to moving forward with gastric revision option. I had the sleeve originally. I was 287 lbs the day of my surgery My lowest weight was 130 and im back up to 185. I had a lifestyle, I chose exercise over food to cope. I was strong and I was so happy. Then it all changed!!!! I was diagnosed as bipolar and throughout the ‘learning’ curves of depression & the medication (which is known for weight gain) i lost my way health and nutrition wise. My depression consumed me and my I was taking meds notorious for weight loss. This along with my first detrimental ‘episode’ led to old bad habit. I see a psychiatrist monthly & psychologist weekly. Ive tried everything to loose weight but nothing worked. So now I want to know about some of your experiences! I am only 28 years old I want to run up the stairs without exhaustion, I’m getting married in the near future, I want kids. I want my lifestyle back I want to be a role model. I want to take my life back , a second chance, and live a happy life. I’ve searched everywhere but I haven’t found any information regarding treatment Resistant Depression & the ECT therapy. •Is it possible to do electroconvulsive therapy & surgery??? Has you done ECT AFTER surgery? / BEFORE surgery? •Has anyone had experience or success as a bipolar candidate? /// What did your surgeon think or say in the matter? •Has anyone had electroconvulsive therapy ( ECT) and Bariatric surgery??

    Anyone had full bypass surgery??

Wow that is awesome news. Sounds like you are doing a great job. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I realize that everyone's surgery and experience is different but knowing what others have been through really does help. When I had the sleeve I had absolutely no problems at all and some people have a really hard time. I have a very high tolerance for pain thankfully. Please keep me posted on your journey and good luck. I had a EGD WITH BRAVO test this past Tuesday and am hoping it is going to be enough for the insurances to get approval for the RNY revision surgery and that it won't take too long to be scheduled for the surgery. Thanks again, Allie Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I try! Though sometimes I go a bit overboard with extra words. I try to keep it in check 😊 I'm almost certainly having bypass. My doc at first tried to steer me to the sleeve, but since I only get one surgery covered in the course of my lifetime, I'd rather go for this one. I'm totally nervous, and excited, and terrified, and generally feeling ALL OF THE FEELS, lol! I think about all this stuff pretty much all the time right now... mostly I just wish it was already here! My first appt was in November, which is approximately 1 eternity ago 😉
  15. I'm curious about what others may be eating at about 7 weeks out from surgery. I'm around 700 calories per day with a 50% protein 20% fat 30% carb ratio. I had a revision from sleeve to RNY and after the initial 20 pounds lost the rest is coming off extremely slowly. Its hard to get the 75-90 grams of protein in without relying on 2 shakes a day. I'm looking for tips on what to eat to get my protein in with eating 3-4 small meals per day. (1/2 a shake or no shake if possible) Thanks in advance for sharing!

Such a beautiful descriptive paragraph lol. So you're having bypass too? Are you nervous? I am sooo excited and terrified lol
  17. Get the bypass. I am converting to the bypass because my reflux got worse after the sleeve. Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Hi everyone! *waves* First day on the forums, so I thought it would be good to introduce myself. I'm a 36 y/o geeky gal living in Wisconsin with my husband and cats. My husband is also having WLS in a few months, so I am lucky to have some built in support, but still would love to build my support network up a bit more! I'm a bit of an introvert, and for fun you can usually find me reading a book, playing board games with friends, or getting lost in a video game. So, my story... I've been obese for as much of my life as I can remember. I've also dieted for as much of my life as I can remember. I've tried pretty much every diet and other strategy that I could think of, and did manage to lose weight now and again, but it always came back. After years of monitoring, last year, I noticed that my insurance was finally willing to cover 1 surgery over the course of my lifetime. I started the ball rolling in November, and am hoping to have my surgery in early June, likely gastric bypass. I've been a part of the UW Health program, which has been amazing - they have been working hard to make sure I am prepared, which is particularly important to me, since I have had a few friends who have not had long-term success with WLS. I am absolutely determined to make this work, and hope that the tool gives me a sort of second chance to actually be a healthy person... especially since I'm hoping to have a kid in the next three years or so 🙂 So far I'm down about 20 lbs and am still pre-op, so I have high hopes for my post-op success! If you've gotten this far, thanks for reading all of this! You rock! I look forward to getting to know some new folks.
  19. I thought I wanted bypass because I didn't like the idea of them permanently removing my stomach from me, but two of my other doctors felt that bypass was too radical for me and wanted me to do sleeve instead, so I did.
  20. I chose bypass because I also have GERD/Ulcers. The sleeve often makes these issues exponentially worse and the bypass often eliminates these issues.
  21. No surgery has a zero percent complication rate. It is simply not accurate to say "not dangerous at all". When I was making my decision I did a lot of research and according to medical journals gastric bypass has a 21% complication rate and sleeve gastrectomy has 13%. That includes both major and minor complications. @100away - yes there are risks. But there are benefits too. You need to sit down with a surgeon and get all your questions answered from a medical professional's expertise, not just ours. You need to weigh the risks and benefits of surgery versus the risks of living long term with GERD, ulcers, and obesity. Because as much as you may be scared of bypass being dangerous - so are those things. GERD can increase your chances of esophageal cancer. Obesity leads to diabetes and heart disease. It's a big decision to be made and you are doing the right thing by asking questions and getting advice before jumping right in without considering the risks.
  22. Yesterday I drove 2.5 hours to meet up with my very dear friend that had gastric bypass only 3 months before I had my sleeve. We enjoyed our day together shopping for new clothes, talking about life and the joys and struggles of WLS. She has also lost 100lbs.
  23. Not dangerous at all. They've been doing these surgeries for a long time. I chose bypass because I had reflux/GERD and sometimes the sleeve makes that much worse. I'm 5 weeks out from bypass and despite a setback, am glad I did it. No regrets. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Can't decide sleeve or bypass

Best to speak to a bariatric surgeon. But with reflux issues a BYPASS might be best but your doctor's will know more
  25. I'm not sure I'm still trying to get approval. I have alot of stomach problems. Reflux disease and ulcers in the past. Nausea alot. Severe constipation. Does any one know how dangerous it is to have either. I'm scared they will cut out the good funtioning stomach and I'll be stuck with the bad. Then being sick for my life. If so I'd rather be fat. The point isn't to be sick or worse the rest of my life.[emoji15] [emoji16] [emoji40] [emoji44] Sent from my LG-LS993 using BariatricPal mobile app
