  1. How do you not overeat? I’m having the problem of eating and it goes down fine but in 30-45 minutes I feel like I swallowed a basketball! I’m measuring out to the 4 oz measure cup they gave me, I am on puréed/ soft foods which has been eggs, Lima beans or mashed potatoes and gravy and I am giving myself time to eat slowly, break between bites and not drink liquids and then when I think it went well I’m in pain bc I feel soooooo full! I’m going to try to cut it in half and see how it goes starting tomorrow but it seems to take a while for the food to get down into the pouch bc by the time I’m feeling full I stop eating and I feel bad later…ugghhhh I’m happy to be full from such a small amount mind you but I’m not sure how to get it down to a normal system
  2. I don’t see cereal as a good option for me since surgery. I’m post sleeve -5 years. You have to be careful with cereals bc alot of brands claim to be “healthy” but they have hidden sugars etc-and tons of carbs w little or no protien in them aside from the milk. I feel like for me cereal would be more of a slider food. Like it wouldn’t fill you up. Not a lot of protein in it. Also, I’m not a breakfast person so that’s prob easier for me to say too. Bc I’m not. My go to is Ratio Coconut Yogurt w fresh blueberries. Ratio is low in sugar 3, 25g protein and 170 calories, 8 carbs

I had my one month follow up and the doctor first said that 18 lbs was good and I’m not stuck, then told me I’m hitting a plateau. I told him about some pain that I feel occasionally and that I think it’s bc I ate too fast. He basically told me I’m going to stretch my stomach out and ruin the surgery so now I’m afraid to eat. Any advice please? I’m in tears praying I didn’t mess up. I’ve been following the directions so closely.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

I had mine 8/1/23 and last food I had was 7/31 so 3 weeks today of clears, I asked about protein shakes and they said I could get the Ensure clear protein drink but no shakes! I can’t drink it because it’s so sweet it gags me so I’ve lived on broth and a lot of water and snowcones w/ sf syrup and popsicles. Three days ago I had cooked/frozen several large batches of Lima, Red beans, cream peas and bean soup. I had some of the bean broth bc it had a bit of substance and it seemed to be all that kept me going. I ran out and went back to broth with seasoning but finally started using 1 small can cream of chicken soup to a quart of chicken broth plus 2 cups water and cooked down with a bunch of Cajun spice. I go back to surgeon tomorrow and am supposed to be put on soft puréed food, eggs, mashed potatoes and yogurts per their instructions and I am certain that if I don’t gnaw my arm off by then I will come home and eat the best eggs and potatoes of my life 🤣 I have been starving for the last 10 days and I’m pretty sure my stomach has healed bc it growls and gives hunger pains about 90-120 post broth meals.
  5. I'm only 18 days out, down 24 lbs since first going to surgeon...I usually put lotion on my legs and feet every night and last night I realized that even though there is still some surgery discomfort from incisions, I could put my foot in my lap and could play with my toes without issue! This is a game changer because for a long time now I have been paying for mani/pedis mostly bc it is painful to reach my toes as I have major back problems but just the little weight I've lost so far makes it not hurt to get to my feet!!!! It may be a while before I can do my own pedicures but I was just so surprised

    Feeling defeated

I was doing keto to loose weight prior to surgery. Since surgery I have been following the diet as ordered. I haven’t deviated once. Even with the pre-op diet I only lost 7 pounds. Mine wasn’t liquid and I could have one salad a day with fat free dressing. I was just discouraged today bc the scales isn’t moving and I have my 6 week follow up coming up. At my 2 week, the doctor seems surprised that I had only lost 7 pounds. Everyone has been so encouraging. It was what I needed today. I will continue doing what I am suppose to do and find other things to focus on besides the scale. TY

    Feeling defeated

Hi everyone. I am 33 days post op and lost 16 pounds. I’m so frustrated bc I’m doing everything they told me to do and the scale is barely moving. I’m walking 1.5- 2 miles a day. I am literally weighing and tracking every single thing I eat. I am getting my protein 95% of the time. I am getting my water in. I know it’s about more than the scale, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t depressing to see it move so little. This week I lost 1.6 lbs. last week it was 1.2. When I went back for my 2 week check even my surgeon looked surprised that I had only lost 7 pounds in the first two week. This has me feeling so defeated. 😭😭😭😭😭

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

2 weeks post op today. I am seeing that I am VERY fortunate to not have to have dealt with a bunch of crazy crap from my insurer. I had a LapBand in 2009. Went to surgeon to have removed/replaced discussion, he ordered and did an endoscope, said all clear. His office sent request and a couple hours later literally my insurer called me, 2 days later, I had an approval letter to remove band and do a gastric bypass. Since I paid cash for my initial LapBand surgery, I didn't have to go through it all with the 6 mos trials and psychologists, etc. and there weren't any requirements. Had scope in July and Aug 1 did bypass. I had a 10 day low carb pre-op diet only and 24 hours liquid preop diet. I've been on liquids for two weeks now and he wants me to do a third week! urgghhh.... I cannot imagine doing a 10-14 day preop liquid followed by a 2-4 week post op liquid. This 2 weeks diet has been brutal. Let me say this as well, and it isn't meant to scare you but rather to prepare you: IT HURTS! IT IS VERY PAINFUL. Never had kids but I'd put the pain up against a Cesarean. Don't let anyone try to convince you it doesn't hurt or that it is "mild" because it isn't. The hospital was less than stellar. I was ordered morphene which doesn't work for me. Then switched to Dilautin, which only works about an hour then wears off. Since I have major back injuries (part of why I'm overweight to begin with) I take pain meds for chronic pain. Hospital finally said they would give me my pain pill every 6 hours along with the Dilautin shot every 3 hours. IF you take pain meds, bring them to the hospital. Yeah, I know they say don't but give them to a friend/family member because I PROMISE YOU that you don't want to be begging/waiting for someone to bring you something and honestly, I'd strongly advise you to buy some liquid Acetamenaphen to have in your bag as well. I actually had one old crotchety nurse who thought she would hold my pain meds over me as an inducement to get me up and moving. I told her pretty much that I'd move when I had my shot and was out of pain (otherwise a few obscenities were about to fly but hubby said she could give me my shot now and I'm so very grateful he was there) and other craziness. I rotated my own pain pills in with their meds, some may not agree with this but I don't think I could have stood it otherwise. Given the prescription my dr gave me to come home with, it was exactly it, a pain pill every 3-4 hours. I'm not a lightweight I assure you and I've had several surgeries (tubal, gall bladder, appendix, stents, etc) but this one DOES HURT so I'm saying BE PREPARED FOR IT! IF at all humanly possible, HAVE SOMEONE STAY WITH YOU FOR AT LEAST THE FIRST NIGHT OR AS LATE INTO THE NIGHT AS YOU CAN GET THEM TO STAY WITH YOU! Again, most hospitals are understaffed and I nearly pissed myself one night trying to get out of bed after my sister had left and when I couldn't get a nurse to come help me get up (they remove the catheter after 24 hours or so). Even little stuff is very hard to do when you're in pain. Bring and charge a phone and zip tie it to your hand if need be because I nearly called my husband to come get me. And when I got no answers about when I was expected to get my barium xray, I called to radiology over & over. No phone in the room (ICU) to call out. Yes, I'd do it again in spite of the awful pain but I think I'd have gone to a bigger city. I also was never told that I would come out of surgery and have to wait until the next DAY to get a barium xray before I'd be allowed anything to drink. I thought I would die of thirst so avoid a first thing am appointment if you can bc if you're in a room at 4 pm you have a lot less time to go thirsty. I'm down 23 lbs since my July dr visit. I'm pleased with that. But it hasn't been easy. I do enjoy the support here in this forum. Good luck.

Hi! Newbie here. I had the sleeve done on 7/13. Since then, I’m only down about 20lbs. I haven’t had a lot of problem with nausea or vomiting but there are times when I eat, I feel it slide down, it’s painful. I don’t believe I am overeating bc I’m too scared that I’m going to gain weight. But I’m hoping once I start exercising more, the weight will come off. I seem to have hit a plateau.
  10. Thanks so much for all the info!!! I’m in BC and I get it paid by my referral from my doctor so no insurance needed on my end. :)
  11. Are going with a private care provider or does BC have a bariatric program that you get referred into by your family doctor? In Ontario there is a bariatric program that covers most of the costs (you have to buy your own OptiFast for the pre-op liquid diet, but broadly everything else is covered, including all consults and tests (sleep study, endoscopy, bloodwork, etc) if you meet several criteria; BMI greater than 40 or BMI between 30-40 with one comorbidity which are defined as coronary heart disease, hypertension, Type II diabetes, or diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea. Once you're enrolled in the program, there are several appointments and classes including a general orientation (virtual), a meeting with a nurse (in person), a social worker (virtual), a dietician (virtual), an internist (in person, who will likely order a sleep study if you haven't had one or have not already been diagnosed with apnea), a nutrition class (virtual) then a meeting with the surgeon (virtual, and who may require an endoscopy to have a look inside your stomach). They will then decide if you're approved for surgery and you'll receive a surgery date shortly thereafter. Next you'll attend a pre-surgery class (virtual). Lastly, you'll need to go in to the hospital two weeks ahead of your surgery where you'll see a nurse, an anesthesiologist and a pharmacist. During this appointment they'll draw blood, give you an ECG, discuss anesthesia and whether you should continue or stop any medications you may be taking before surgery. From being referred into the program to getting my surgery date took almost exactly 4 months (March 7-June 8) and my surgery date is Aug 28, so roughly 6 months total.
  12. Hello! Just wondering I got my consultation for august 31st in Canada and I’m wondering how quickly did some of you Canadians get approved after their consultation and also what did they have to do in order to get approved in BC Canada or in Canada :) thanks so much everyone!! I’m so excited I can’t wait to finally get this done :)
  13. Sept 4 here! Revision sleeve to bypass. BC Canada.
  14. Lol right like let me happy for the moment while my body trying to figure this thing out. I thought smaller stomach less food loose weight. Mannnnnn that’s not how it’s playing out like gheesh this a whole math class measurement walking no drinking and eating what did I sign up for lol! I jus want to skinny for my bday lol! How much have u lost so far I stop at 18 de say on there scale but mine said 24lbs I would like to think I paid more for them little lbs I’m ab to go back to liquid diet. Bc stage 3 ain’t my friend. But wait u said u doing junk food aren’t u on Puree stage?
  15. Hi I had my lap band (originally inserted 2009) removed and replaced by a gastric bypass yesterday at 11am and sent to ICU here in local hospital. No one told me and I’m losing my ever loving mind here because I haven’t had anything to drink since the tiny bottle of pre-operative body armor drink I was given to drink before my surgery! I was told to do liquid diet 24 hrs before and then nothing after midnight so 12:01 am Tuesday morning I stopped drinking anything, headed to hospital I was told to drink the little bottle of body armor which was about 7 oz. Arrived early taken back and done early and into ICU room by around 2-3 pm Tuesday. Upon waking I immediately asked for some water and was told that I am not allowed to have it! I was shocked and asked when it would be possible and nurse said that I have to wait until the next day and that I have to have a bariatric fluid drink and test before I can have a drink! I’m dying of thirst here and still can’t believe that this is happening! nothing I read anywhere says this!!!! Has anyone else been through this? I have asked when the test will be and they said they will check on the schedule and let me know. I’m also a little frustrated bc they have a catheter in me and I’m pretty much stuck in the bed here, I’d have preferred to have been able to go to the bathroom but they don’t have a real bath in the room either just a toilet and there is literally a door that has a window across the room about 8 feet away… I’m not kidding. I’m really feeling like a prisoner in here and the little prison toilet just ads to it! im thinking of calling the bariatric testing center to see if I can get some answers. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem?

    Did I eat too much?

Hi summerseeker, isnt restriction what we’re aiming for? My Dr basically said (and I heard this from a 2nd one I considered as well) that you want the most restricted from the outset and the goal is to lose as much weight as you possibly can in the first 6-12 mos bc weight loss wanes or stops after that. And I did lookup some dieticians in Huntsville that I am planning to try to go see if I can get an appointment Ty
  17. I received this information from a source that works at Hospital BC.
  18. I have recently received alarming reports from patients who have sent deposits or paid in full for surgeries in Tijuana to a patient coordinator named Bill Yanez. He is now working once again as a coordinator for Dr. Jalil Illan in Tijuana. Please exercise extreme caution when dealing with Dr. Jalil Illan at BC Hospital and coordinators Bill Yanez. They have a history of financial misconduct, having embezzled significant sums of money from me during their tenure as coordinators at BariatricPal Hospital/BC Hospital. Furthermore, I have personally experienced severe surgical complications under the care of Dr. Illan, who botched my surgery not once but twice. There are many reputable and trustworthy options for bariatric surgery in Mexico. Please do not risk your health and finances by entrusting them to a surgeon and coordinators with a track record of dishonesty and malpractice. If these individuals have victimized you, I urge you to report them to your local authorities and the FBI. Their actions are unethical and illegal, and they will face the consequences of their actions in due course. Stay safe, everyone. Let's look out for each other and ensure we all have access to safe, reliable, and ethical medical care.
  19. I just got word from a good source that Bill Yanez has been re-hired by Dr. Illan and is back running their scam at Hospital BC. Dr. Illan must be getting desperate if he hired Bill back after claiming that Bill also embezzled his money.
  20. my office requires chewable. no gummies bc they have hidden carbs and sugars. no capsules bc they add additional barriers on absorption. My surgeons office gave us a full long list of their recommendations, and broke down which ones had additional supplements we had to add with it (example, if you take flintstones complete, you need to add calcium and b complex) I chose the one that was a complete that didnt need additional supplements, and the dietician said that she does not see defiencies with that one, its bariatric fusion, the one that says complete chewable. https://www.bariatricfusion.com/collections/bariatric-multivitamins
  21. I am aware that it is normal and its the loss of fat but dang. i have tried an egg crate cushion, a donut butt coyx or however its spelled cushion. Ive tried them on top of each both ways. The only smallest relief I get is if I set at an angle, on my hip, with my ankle under me to keep me tilted. But this puts my foot/leg to sleep. I have similar pain in my husbands truck, or sitting in my car longer than 3 hrs. I can't change my office chair bc work requires all of our chairs to look identical. HELPPPP.

    Exercise and what to do

She FORGOT about a needed therapy after ALL this postponement, all this time?? I don’t know what kind of BS that is. I know you don’t want to rock the boat after all you have been through, but after your surgery, I would file a complaint with a timeline of these these extra hoops she came up with, the things you did and this “ intentional exercise “. That is a big bunch of NOTHING!! Nobody can accurately assess someone else’s intentions, EVER!! She is gaslighting and seems to think ALOT of her telepathic skills…. She might need a mental health evaluation

    My Gastric Sleeve Journey

Had my VSG about 6 weeks ago. I really want to maintain, maybe build muscle. I have had good muscle mass until about two yrs ago. I am now 55 and post menopausal, so it’s a whole new world!!😩. I would love to learn Any supplements, exercise routines or any kind of tip/ trick people have discovered, stumbled upon. I know we are all different, but I love hearing about new things to look into, learn about. There is so much out there now!! Get hormones! Use EEA’s!! The wellness world has exploded and there is a lot of BS out there. Every now and again you find a gem. We are aging so much differently than our parents!! We aren’t taking it lying down! 50 is the new 30!!

    Regrets

I’m 8 days in and I feel your pain! I was drawn to this forum bc I felt totally alone!
  25. I got on it bc I was stalled for 9 months. And that’s not necessarily true. I eat right and I still couldn’t lose more. I wanted it to help with the last few lbs. it’s pretty common. And I increased it cuz I didn’t lose for 2 weeks of the 4 week intro on 2.5mg so we tried the 5 and it’s just been absolute hell. I’m scared to even do the lower dose.
