They REALLY don't want people adjusting their own CPAPS. but it can take a month or more just to get into a sleep study, and then another 2-4 weeks for the evaluation to come back and tell you wha tit should be. And by then you'll have lost even MORE weight and it'll STILL be wrong. Long ago I did a google search on the make/model of my cpap and found a comment on a forum that shows the magical key-combination to change my pressure. I never set it above a certain pressure, but I set it lower if I know it needs to be lower. (and I can tell). Up to you. but there are options.

I was banded three and a half weeks ago and all my incisions have healed nicely except for one. It is the incision at the top of my abdomen (near my breat bone). While it has mostly healed it is still open (approximatly 1/4 inch) and being stubborn about healing all the way. Does anyone have advice on what to do to speed the healing process and avoid infection? I have tried the triple antibiotic ointment route......anything else? THANK YOU!!!

Allergic to bandaids???
pmcw replied to Nippz_7919's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have an allergy to some band-aides and medical tape, I don't know if it is the adhesive or what, because I know the cloth medical tape they usually use in hospitals take my skin off, but I can use the paper tape, so from that I would assume that it was the material, but I also have the same reaction to certain band=aides, especially the little clear spot ones, my skin comes right off. But that is beside the point since the band-aides are not on, what I am most concerned with is that you say it is worse after showering, it sounds to me like moisture may have gotten inside your incision and caused a yeast infection, and that can turn serious, you really need to talk to your Dr. and stress that you are worried and have him take another look, if he doesn't listen consult your GP, this is not a band issue, it is possibly an infected wound issue! I was banded on the same day you were, all my stitches were under the skin, I canot see them, and my doctor used a very thin stretchy clear material, I guess a type of band-aide, but nothing I have ever seen in a store, and he had me try one on my stomach for a few days prior to surgery to make sure I would not be allergic to it, since I told him I was allergic to some band-aides, but I was told not to get my incision wet for a week, I could shower, as long as water didn't get under the band-aide stuff he had on them. If you have openings that water is getting into I would be very concerned! -
Sleeping On Your Stomach
morelgirl replied to jumpnbean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sleep half on my stomach and half on my side. Since about 2 weeks after surgery, I've been fine with any position. I did feel a little bit uncomfortable on my stomach last night after my latest fill, but I wasn't surprised and I doubt it will last. -

Hello all. I am getting banded on May 17th 2010. I am sooooo scared ... HELP!!
Budrita commented on Budrita's blog entry in Blog 91290
Hey Dana, Try to relax. Everything will go just fine. I am 4.5 weeks post op and doing awesome! I'm even out walking a mile a day. I too was nervous about the surgery, but it honestly goes so fast. I had to get a patch from the doctor to put behind my ear to stop me from reacting to the meds they put you to sleep with. This helped to calm be because I knew I wouldn't throw up after surgery. The best suggestion I have is to take someone with you that will be supportive and loving. Focus on the positives of surgery. In 4 weeks I was taken off my Metformin for insullin resistance and couldn't be happier. You will be just fine. Happy thoughts and Best of luck! -

Hey, Not sure on the bruising, but my doctor won't do fills for the first 6 weeks as he said it takes that long for the body to heal. I would talk to your doctor about doing a smaller dose for your next fill. Try not to worry it causes you to release chemicals that actually makes you gain weight. Happy thoughts your way. I'm sure the 2nd time around you'll be fine. Good luck!

Hello 830830...congrats on your recent surgery. One week after surgery..I had a day of. mourning over the lost if my best friend, my consoler, my go to. ...FOOD. On that one day, I wanted to binge ..I wanted my best friend that I loved so much for 40 years. I knew I could use my friend anymore.. I was so sad.. It was day of realism..however, with that mourning..my mind flipped. It was also my day of acceptance..that I had to let go of my best friend. Though I know my friend can come and knock on my door again, I am doing the best to keep her a bay. Every since my sleeve, it is so much easier to jump into what life has to offer..rather than being in a stupor with high fat, high sugar food. I have discovered my cues of head hunger'. I.e. Tiredness', stress , and anxiety. I am very aware when I have head hunger..then I take the time out and evaluate what situation I Have put my day in. Then I slowdown..tell myself that nothing is worth being anxious about ..to,sabotage my health journey. You are going through a transition..and that is an integral part of growth towards health..when I are feeling out of your body. The time to analyze your feelings and write it down..face your new reality. Make sure you are not over exercising. Not eat all your Protein...etc etc. Your body is healing.. So be patient..be kind to yourself.. I am so happy that had that one horrible day. I did not binge..I eat what I was directed to. But it was a day of awakening. So embrace change. Even though it is foreign to you right now.

Hi Vickie Before considering the lap band, I could not lose more than 10 lbs. I have been fat all my entire 50 years. I tested out the pre-op carb diet and lost 15 lbs. the first week. However, I haven't been able to lose a lb. since. The good thing is that I havew been able to keep the 15 lbs. off for the past three months. I am currently waiting for a surgery date.

I was told nothing over 20 pounds for 2 weeks. I haven't heard 4 weeks....can you check with the nurse maybe he mis-stated it.
-
we were all hungry for weeks after surgery until the fills get right. I lived on home make chicken broth and creamed soups as much as I wanted plus tea, Snapple, water, popsiciles, while healing. Do yourself a favore and stick to the plan and you will loss in the long run. Hungry isn't the key to eat any more do the work and get the success you want. clean a room, go for a walk call a friend other things then eat. Its a new life and a diet.

Yes, I saw what you wrote and as others stated here, you're really risking serious complications and damage to your stomach by eating this stuff right after surgery. I was starving right after surgery too but I still stayed on liquids for the first 4 weeks after surgery regardless. Why? Because that was my surgeon's instructions and my hunger was totally irrelevant. I didn't want risk damaging my stomach or the band. If you were given a post op diet to follow, then you best get back on it ASAP. It's for your own safety.

75 lb plus experienced sleevers
NJMOMof2 replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost about 75 pounds and have lost of loose skin sound my stomach and between my thighs (UGH). I have been working out HARD! I work with a trainer, spin and do the eliptical machine each week. I am hoping it tightens up. My doctor said once I am a year out and have reached goal, he will referr me. Covered or not, I AM going to get a tummy tuck. Hopefully, it would help with the multiple scars I have from 3 surgerys (2 lapband, and one sleeve). I am hoping for a flat stomach! -
Hey Jake, glad you found this site it is an excellent resource for a wealth of information. I am going the vsg route and am scheduled for it in just a couple of weeks,so I can't speak of the things to come just yet. however, I personally feel this procedure is the right one for me. It might be a good thing to research some surgeons in your area and set up a consult to get the ball rolling. I hope you're able to find the right fit for you and can accomplish your goals. Best of luck to you......Andy

Have u had your RNY pouch and stoma reduced?
ValerieInMexico replied to PrincessCharming's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was six days out from a RNY revision surgery, a few weeks ago. I did so well preparing for the surgery that I decided to postpone it. The procedure I was going to have is one where the Roux arm is lengthened and the stoma reduced in size. The modification of the bypass has a 15% chance of complications. My surgeon was confident in his ability because he has only 1% complications with this procedure. If they are just working on your pouch and stoma I would not worry. That is low risk. I am losing weight again, slowly. I have learned so, so much from this forum. I have been reading the books and watching videos that are helping me understand why I am hungry. It was 2000 when I had my bypass. There is so much more information and tools available now. I am relearning how to eat properly and how important vitamins are. I will wait six months before I decide if I need the revision surgery. My suggestion is, study up and copy what the new RNY patients are doing. I feel I am a born again bypass patient. Best of luck! -
Hello all So the last time i posted i was having anxiety about the blood work and quitting smoking. So far i have been smoke free for 3 weeks and I had the pre op testing done on friday. They said the results would be in the same day and I havent heard anything... Well that was friday but I'm going to remain positive and get through this week as calmly as possible. Oh did i mention my surgey is scheduled for next Wednesday the 26th?? Anyway im required to do a liquid diet with popsicles and boiled eggs being the only solids i can eat until surgery.. Wish me luck with that one since boiled eggs give me heart burn😡

Medication adjustments
Zane's Mom replied to kimpossible67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on 6/17. I can't say it is the medication. I have 3 meds for depression/anxiety/etc from a psychiatrist. She was very adamant that I must continue to take my prescribed dosages as scheduled. She said it is dangerous to not have your meds because of how imbalanced you can become and with such a life altering process, you don't need to be without. I chose sleeve over band because the band opening gets so small with fills. I made that decision with all my doctors. My son was murdered two weeks before going to college three years ago. It took me 1 & 1/2 to stop being suicidal and start living again for the rest of my family who has missed their brother and son and wife and mother too. But I attribute part of my healing to the medications. My doctor has said I will most likely be on them for many years to come. Just because your size has changed doesn't mean your mind needs less of the dose you have been medically prescribed. Please contact all of your doctors concerning not feeling well and together you can find what can help. -
7days before surgery and now scared

I am a Physician Assistant with over 12 years of experience in internal medicine and gastric band management . I am a certified provider in band management and have done thousands of fills. I believe in the band because I have seen, first hand, how well it works.....if the patient has been taught how to use it!!! Too often, the patient is rushed in and out of the office for a fill and the provider doesn't address what the patient is doing right or wrong. The weight log does not tell the whole story, far from it. Unfortunately, most providers put far too much "weight" in the weight log. For instance, the patient comes in for a 2 week follow up and has lost 3 lbs, great right? Not quite, If the provider doesn't ask the appropriate questions he/she may not know that the patient is too tight and vomiting daily, surprisingly, many patients won't offer this info up to the provider because they are losing weight. The provider MUST spend time withe the patient to determine if the band is too tight or is the patient making mistakes that cause vomiting. This vomiting is risky for band patients because it may cause a slip or erode the mucosa of the esophogus as well as many other potential problems. Believe it or not, there are plenty of "band bulemics" out there and most aren't identified because the provider doesn't spend enough time with the patient. On the flip side, some patients come in with a weight gain, yet their band is very tight. This is actually a common dilema and again if the provider doesn't ask the right questions, the patient will end up getting a fill when in reality, they need a small defill. Most patients want their band as tight as possible because that equates to more weight loss, right? When the band is too tight, the patient knows that most foods will cause vomiting. Ironically, its the food that they shouldn't eat, that they end up eating, thus weight gain. In this patient, with a small defill, the vomiting will resolve and their weight will drop. I am available to answer any questions this community has via this forum or email at jvmed@me.com.

Still Have An Appetite 4 Days Post Op
SkinnyMinnie2Be replied to jlbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And this post op diet has me so confused! My written orders say clear fluids for a week then modified fluids for a week then full fluids for a week. But day 2 post op after my leak test I was given a thick cream of mushroom soup, yogurt...so I don't know what I'm doing. I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday. Hopefully I can clear this up -
Anyone had a Gastric Band to Gastric Sleeve Conversion ?
petaloshea posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my Gastic Band removed last Tuesday and all went fine. They did a special X-ray the next day while i swallowed an aniseed tasting drink. The Doctor said it all looked good. I am chomping at the bit to have my sleeve done but have to wait 12 weeks (24th March) so my stomach is fully healed. I see in the U.S. they often do both procedures together. I do understand taking the precaution of waiting but I have a very good reason for wanting it earlier than 12 weeks. I am a Bing Eater/Bulumic and already I can eat huge volumes of food. The other thing is after I reached my goal weight of 60kg after the Gastric Band I had all the surgery to tighten up my loose skin and frankly looked fabulous. If I keep up this eating I will stretch the skin out again and all those operations will be ruined. I will be talking to my Sugeon as soon as possible to discuss. HAS ANYONE ON THIS FORUM HAD THEIR SLEEVE CONVERSION DONE EARLIER THAN THE 12.WEEKS??? -
had surgery 3 days ago-have questions
lisacaron replied to scubasteph's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@scubasteph The first thing is congrats on your new band! The second thing is don't stress...take a deep breath and relax cause you are right on track. In the first few days to weeks after surgery you are going to be very swollen inside and the idea right now is healing. You don't want to force yourself to eat or drink anything right now. You want to rest and heal up. If you can take many many tiny sips of your Protein drink. Use a medicine dose cup. You are very much "babying" your band right now. You would not feed a newborn a half gallon of milk and neither can you feed yourself that right now. As you soon will see that as you are putting liquids in they will come out and soon enough the #2 problem you mentioned will right itself. Your not putting much in so...give it a chance. Feel good and let us know how your doing!!
