Dizzy!? Day 10 post op
PdxMan replied to UNbLIVable's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, this could be a lot of things. Of course, my first piece of advice would be to contact your medical team. If for nothing else, keep them abreast of how you are and any issues you are having. They know your medical history while we don't. Are you able to get your liquids in? How about eating? What are you eating? How many calories are you getting in each day? If you aren't meeting your Dr's quotas on these, this would be where I would start focusing. -
Greetings fellow bandsters and bandland visitors, I have been keeping a daily log of my food intake and found that it has been very helpful to me. Also, after reading so many questions from would be bandsters, I have decided to share my daily food intake for 30 days. Hopefully this diary will be beneficial to others as it will surely help keep me accountable. I am carefully measuring my food on a digital scale and the ammount of calories burned at the gym is based on my F12 Polar HR monitor. I was banded in May of '05 and have had three fills. Thanks! I am a 26 year old male, weighing 240 lbs. 2nd fill: on the verge of misery
Oregondaisy replied to morningoasis811's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
- How much volume can you eat at one sitting? I use my hand as sort of a measure. I stopped measuring my food. I eat a piece of meat that's about the size of my palm. My dr. wants us to eat 75% protein and 25 % veggies and fruit. Sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I will cut up the amount of meat I think I can eat, and I can't eat it all. - Do you count calories? Track food? I used to be very religious about counting calories. Now, I eat so many of the same foods all the time, I can do it in my head without logging in. I used to use sparkpeople.com - How often do eat per day? snacks? I eat 3 meals a day, and usually an evening snack of some sort. Usually it's a sugar free fudgesicle. -How long do you feel full for after meals? 3-4 hours, sometimes longer. Sometimes I actually forget that it's time to eat. In the evenings, it's definitely head hunger. I am not hungry, but I think I have a taste for something. I stay full from breakfast but I know I have to eat lunch before I go to work or I will be hungry at work. I only work part time, in the afternoons. I work out every morning. When I didn't have the right fill, I got full very fast but I was hungry again soon. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am happy to help. -

Rx Weight Loss Meds Post-op?
Arabesque replied to LAJ23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The closer you are to goal, the more slowly you lose but in saying that you may have reached your balance & are in maintenance. That is the calories you are consuming are equal to the calories you are burning. To lose more you either have to consume less or increase your activity. Whatever weight you end up at has to be sustainable. Many bariatric patients end up at a weight that is higher than what they may have initially wanted. But they’re at a weight they can maintain while still enjoying & living the healthy & happy life they want. It’s fine to eat several smaller meals across a day or graze on three meals as long as caloric intake is constant. It just has to work for you. I eat three meals and about 4 nutritious snacks every day because I can’t physically consume enough in three meals to maintain - my restriction kicks in & I can’t eat any more. My total caloric intake sits at about 1200 calories a day. Another path you could look at is Dr Matt Weiner’s videos & books about resetting your basal metabolic rate which could enable you to lose more if you are interested. The intent is to reset your metabolism to run faster so your body burns more calories just to function. I guess the big questions are do you want to have to take appetite suppressants for the rest of your life to maintain at a lower weight? Do you want to live your life consuming fewer calories &/or maintaining a higher activity level to stay at a lower weight? You may say yes to either of these questions & that’s fine. It’s your decision. Congrats on your weight loss & good luck whatever you decide. -
On how many calories do u feel full after a meal or in a day after gastric sleeve?
katcycler replied to Best's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My protein drinks are 160. I use them as a meal and I feel full. I'm 6 weeks out from surgery. If I eat an egg and baby bel cheese mini I am full but calories are only 120. So calories depend on consistency of food your eating. At 6 wks out, I still can only get in around 475 calories per day -
On how many calories do u feel full after a meal or in a day after gastric sleeve?
alwaysvegas replied to Best's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely agree with @VSGAnn2014...solid Proteins (fish, poultry, tofu) make me feel much more full for much longer than anything else, including liquid proteins. Calorie counts don't seem to matter much, but I'm sticking to low-carb, lower-fat options until I reach my goal weight and my nutritionist agrees to change my eating goals. -
On how many calories do u feel full after a meal or in a day after gastric sleeve?

I am only 3.5 (almost 4) weeks out and right now calories has no effect on my feeling full. I am barely able to stomach soft foods still (although am finally eating SOME soft foods.) With the baby food or purees I can eat 4 tablespoons no problem but STILL feel full. With more "bulky foods" for example I can't eat that much. I tried tuna fish with mayo last week as recommended by the dietitian, and I was only able to get down about 2-3 tablespoons before I was uncomfortably full. I am finally eating slow too. (Actually took up loom knitting and try and knit a row or two between bites!) I don't really experience hunger at all though. They say that is normal. -

Depends on the type of food! I can eat many more calories worth of carbs than heavy protein before I feel full. Been that way at all stages. Protein and fat fills me quickly, even now at over a year out maybe 100 calories, 150 tops. Carbs I could do as much as 300 or so. -
My surgeon and dietician never told me how much calories I'm to have each day other than three meals and was told to start purée when I came out of hospital (I was in hospital for 5 days) my question is one night I could have 5 spoons of purée chicken and vege in 30mins and took almost an hour to drink an up and go but next moring I could drink a whole up and go which is 250ml in 15-20mins no problem I find I can hold more round 200-300ml in 30mins is this normal??? Is their an amount my stomach is only allowed to hold?? I don't Wana stretch my stomach and I have hardly moved my bowls only once in 2weeks and I'm taking lac-dol and adding fibre to my drinks should I see my doc? As I don't see my surgeon until Thursday??

Best options when it comes to alcohol?
Creekimp13 replied to Mhy12784's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best option = none. If you don't drink and it's not important to you....maybe just abstain. If it is something you enjoy and don't want to give up....here's some advice from google: The best form of alcohol, from a calorie perspective, are the classic spirits. We’re talking about tequila, rum, vodka, whiskey, and gin. One ounce of any of those classic spirits contains around 64 calories, most of which come from the alcohol content. So, maybe a small margarita, or any of these spirits mixed with low calorie diet juices? Good luck. -
Hi everyone, i have been exercising 6 days a week and 2 hours a day. Two weeks ago i ate 800-900 calories per day and lost 7lbs, then last week i eat about 500-600 per day and only lost 3lbs. Calories Per Day Vs Exercise
tamg26k replied to leanora27801's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I exercise about the same, 6 days a week and really try to keep my calories around 900-1000 per day. Honestly with all of the exercise we are still not taking in enough calories but it is hard. I tried to supplement this by eating a bit more lean beef that is higher in calories than turkey or chicken. Your weight loss with increase if you increase your calories to about 1000-1200 per day. I also increased my Protein to about 120 grams per day. The only way for me to do this was to supplement with 2 Protein shakes - one in the morning and one post workout. The protein has really helped with muscle recovery. -
Hey everyone! I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and one thing I am noticing i happening is I am suffering from memory loss or forgetfulness overtime! Kinda like "baby brain" you get when your pregnant. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not like serious enough to call the doctor about and I don't have an appointment till June. Just curious on people's thoughts? I was thinking it could be the low amounts of calories being consumed?

After 3-4 months your clear to eat anything regular correct? Not stick to the Protein shakes and purees? I been eating fine. Watching protein calories and sugar intake. I haven't started the gym but will do so tonight or tmr. My job I have is very active so I have been doing great with weight loss. Believe it or not I kicked up my calorie intake and was losing more. Now I'm at a stall. I eat mainly veggies..... veggie subs (3" at a time) or veggie gluten free pizza 1 tiny piece to 2. raw veggies. Lean cuisines. Jello. pudding. Hummus. Powerade zero. Fruits. smoothies. Right now its my craving time of month. So its hard but I try to avoid food at this time of month. Any other healthy choices?

I was wondering if anyone can speak to it being normal to feel somewhat remorseful about choosing to have surgery? I'm 5 weeks post op, lost 30 pounds preop, and only 17 pounds since the surgery. Suffice it to say I'm so disappointed and am beginning to feel like this may have all been for not. Reading about everyone else's success had me hopeful that I'd be sitting pretty on the loser's bench by now, unfortunately I still feel like the fat girl that doesn't get invited to take a seat. Been in a stall for 19 days now and I've tried everything to stimulate some change. I really increased my protein for a week, I ate more calories for a few days, and now I'm on day 3 of the 5 day pouch test. The only difference I've seen is the scale shows I've actually gone up a pound or two then back down. Today I got to eat some eggs as part of the 5 day pouch test and they felt like a rock in my stomach. So uncomfortable and made me feel more miserable than every. I can't imagine that I'll feel like this for the rest of my life when interacting with food. I don't feel like this is normal and all the happiness about my decision is starting to drain away. Can this procedure actually not work? Can the body be so resistant to weight loss that it fights to hold on to it? Is there anyone out there who feels like they haven't made the best decision for themselves? Has anyone gone through a period like this and can speak to it actually getting better? I know it's too late and can't take it back now, but how do I live with it?

Could I possibly never need a fill?
MandaMom23 replied to Cwalband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen a few people that haven't needed a fill. i've seen some people only needing one small fill, and others that have their band totally full before hitting their green zone. i'm still not at what i could call my green zone (i currently have 5cc's in my 11cc band...5 fills @ 1cc each), but i can easily eat more than a cup of food, and i'm still getting hungry in between meals. i'm still losing weight, but i eat right, record every single thing i put in my mouth, and stay within my calories. I'd love to get to a point where i don't have to think so much about it. -
So my NUT said she does not want me counting calories. That made my jaw drop! Maybe I am old school, but I thought that was to help me loose weight. I am in shock. Are you counting calories?
-
Just trying to figure out why documentation states someone with lapband will only lose 50-60% of excess weight. If weightloss occurs when you burn more calories than you eat then why would weightloss stop?
-
Ive been drinking my calories too! I got addicted to mcd's mocha frappes.. flavored coffees..I recommitted too since I gained a few lbs now im trying to get back on track...what are your band stats? I have 5.75 in a 10cc.

'Tis the ice cream season. And Labor Day it'll be brats and burgers. And Halloween it'll be trick or treat. And November it'll be Thanksgiving. And all of December it'll be sweets, sweets and more sweets. And January it'll be the Super Bowl (the highest calorie day of the year). And February it'll be Valentine's. And March it'll be St. Patrick's Day. And April it'll be the stress of doing taxes. And May it'll be Memorial Day barbeques. And June Ice Cream Season starts again. Unless we live under rocks, we'll always have temptations. YOU DID GOOD!

great idea Tara. I will try that. - By the way everyone there is an incredibly high Protein drink called Isopure. 40 grams per serving. The drink is clear and comes in flavors... the banana to me is the best, but the GNC salesperson says blueberry sells the best. they have a 150 calories... and zero carbs. - it is a GREAT way to get some calories in, lots of protein and still hold the carbs down.
-
Sorry I guess I wasn't paying enough attention. Sounds like you are doing great. Don't worry so much about the calories yet. Most people are low in the beginning but once you get to solids it will all work out!

Hi there! I had my surgery on August 15th and so far I have had a complication free, speedy and very lucky recovery. I have lost 47 pounds including a one week pre-op which I am pretty excited for! Well I have an interesting story (I'll make it short, I promise) that I want to share with you. [below talks about lots of junk food - don't read if you are sensitive to that kinda thing, heh] Before getting the gastric sleeve I was an emotional eater. I binged multiple times a week and the only person who knows is my mom and a good friend of mine. Food was my best friend. I used to eat huge quantities, well over 10,000 calories at a time and end my day with a big thing of ice-cream. I still get disgusted thinking about eating everything that I did. And I did this multiple times a week for years. Anyway~ Besides deep fried cheesy foods, sweets was my number one go-to food. You know those, "Oops, we baked too much!" 50% off carts they have at super markets? Yeah, I attacked that. Sometimes getting two dozen donuts, 24 count Cookies, etc that would sit in my stomach after a day and a half (not including all the chips, Pasta, cheese sticks, hot pockets, etc I would eat prior) I was a wreck. [end junk food] Anyway, now that I had the sleeve I have had no cravings other than fresh fruit. I am allowed SF/FF pudding (I got dark chocolate, my favorite) and I took one bite and it was far too rich! It went down smoothly and I had no problems but it was just disgusting. Pre-surgery the richer the better! But no, I just can't tolerate it now. I tried again a week later (the other day) and took one small spoon. Nope, not happening. I just don't want it and I gave it to my mother and said she can eat them. ISN'T IT CRAZY HOW MUCH YOU CAN CHANGE AFTER SURGERY? This super-super-sweet girl doesn't like sweets! I get great satisfaction by adding a strawberry to my crystal lite lemonade or eating two small blackberries but nothing more. I think this is a big fat NSV!!!!!!!! Does anyone have a story similar to mine?

5 Months Post-Op.. Calorie Question!
Djmohr replied to lakinlogan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed at 700 calories on average per day until i hit the 9 month post op mark. I then had a very long stall - 28 days and I was told to increase my calories by adding more veggies, fresh fruit and some Protein. I was also told to reduce excercising from 1 hour per day to 30 minutes 5 times per week. I increased to 800 -900 per day until I hit 1 year and then slowly increased to 1100 per day. I was still in weight loss phase until 18 months. Then increased to 1200 to 1300 per day. I did and my stall broke. I continued to lose weight for the next 9 months until i reached my ultimate goal.
