  1. I may just be freaking out but.....Today I am 2 weeks post-op. I feel great! I have been meeting my protein requirement of 70 grams per day, I am drinking Premeir Protein. I have been meeting or exceeding the 64 oz fluid requirement, I have not had any issues with drinking. I have not been eating much more, here and there I will have 2-4 TBSP of yogurt or cream soup 1 or 2 times a day but have not gone over the 4 TBSP. Sometimes I eat this, sometimes I dont. I am still on full liquids until Wednesday. I am averaging 400-500 calories per day. My Surgery wt wat 257.0, came home from the hospital at 265.0, lost the water weight and was back to 257.0 after a couple days. But.....I have been at 250.4 for the last 6 days. Not sure what I am doing wrong....not enough calories??? Is my body just adjusting?? Any thoughts or advice would be awsome..thanks!

    Coworkers...

Do you really think you'd be able to eat more than just one cookie now? Perhaps that is all your stomach could handle now. I totally get that you don't want to even go there because it was a trigger food for you. I was only 2-1/2 weeks out from my surgery when my sister had a 30th birthday party for my nephew. I brought my lunch bag with me so I could bring a greek yogurt, some applesauce, and a couple other options that I was okay to eat. There was some fabulous food there, but I had to sit and look at all of it while the rest of the party goers were eating. I did okay. Was I envious? Absolutely! But, I got through it because I knew what would happen if I ate even a small nibble. Do I think I'll never ever be able to "taste" some of the stuff that was there again? No. And that is what I tell myself. You cannot have that now, but perhaps somewhere down the line a little taste will be okay. I may not even like it anymore. My tastes have changed so much since surgery.
  3. Thanks for sharing....I feel good about him...I just really dont see his name to much on here....did they give u post op meal ingo before u left. I only have pre op of 3 days water, yogurt. ..if u dont mind sharing.

    Soft food stage...help

If you're hitting your doctor's targets for Protein and calories, then continue to eat the snacks/shakes as long as it is working for you. It's not an issue how often you eat as long as you're getting what you need - 3 meals or 6 little ones - it's all good. I loved Kroger's carbmaster line of yogurts both as a meal and snack. I think they are 60 calories, 9 grams of protein and 4 carbs and they had lots of flavors. I have Mootopia milk but it's only available from HEB grocery stores in Texas I think, but Fairlife milk is pretty much the same thing. They reduce the sugar/lactose/carbs and increase the protein and it tastes great. This is great when you need a quick snack. As far as things to eat in the soft food stage, I loved refried Beans with a bit of greek yogurt (plain tastes like sour cream but has more protein) or a little shredded cheese. Cottage cheese, soft baked fish (I baked it with lemon/butter and some spices), tuna fish with a bit of mayo also were my go-to meals.

    Help! Weird Symptoms (slip?)

Thanks for watching over me. This feels like a big slip. The restriction is at my sternum. I burp and it comes from much lower. I am getting reflux. I am down to full liquids so I'm eating soft Soups and yogurt. Soup is soothing. I had two questions: 1. Is repairing a lap band (with insurance) covered under the intial surgery after-care time period or is it something i'm going to have put in a seperate claim for? 2. Could I have done this to myself by starting Ab crunches two weeks ago? I am still pretty overweight so my crunches are'nt very huge, but I am doing simple ones and cross one where I attempted to touch my elbow with my opposite knee.
  6. I buy foods that remind me of the holidays, but are a better fit with my current diet. For example, I've been eating Pumpkin yougurt almost every morning. To make it, I mix plain canned pumpkin, plain greek yogurt, Splenda, vanilla, and cinnamon with a little water. Tastes so good and keeps me out of hubby's pumpkin pie most days. I also like pumpkin stirred in my vanilla protein drink. And Celestial Seasoning's Gingerbread Spice Tea with a little Splenda. Another treat is the sugar free apple cider drink mix. I don't buy foods that might make me go off track. I used to keep several filled candy jars throughout the Christmas season. Now I buy See's candy a couple of times over the holiday season. I eat a few pieces and that's the extent of my holiday candy. I also avoid having baked goods in the house. I do keep peppermint candies because I won't overeat them and the peppermint flavor is so Christmasy. When we go to a party, I bring something I know I can eat that is a good choice for me. If people try to get me to eat more, I simply say I'm full. When we go out to eat, I eat a splurge food that is low in calories, like lobster or dungeness crab. If the meal is at my house, I send fatty leftovers home with everyone so there isn't so much of it left at my house. I exercise first thing in the morning (actually do this all year, not just holidays!) so it's done before I can cook up an excuse about why I can't do it.
  7. My surgeon not the severe erosion on the inside of my stomach but on the outside, I don't know if that makes sense. But, my port had flipped early out, and my douchebag band doctor ignored my complaints of pain for months, it got to where the port migrated, and the tubing was pulling on my band that was wrapped around my stomach. 3.5 months for me to resume normal activity. I actually didn't have a pre-op liquid diet. I just had to low carb it, and then fast the night before surgery after midnight. I don't know many revision patients that have to do a prolonged liquid diet unless they are having major issues with their band and even then I've never read more than 2 weeks of Protein shakes and other liquids including yogurt, sugar free popsicles, pudding and Jello. My leak was directly where the band was wrapped around my stomach. I did lose additional stomach tissue from that area, but it was not at the esophagus/stomach connection. My leak was discovered on my 3rd and final leak test with contrast fluid(gastrographin Fluid should be used since barium is not Water soluble).

How about non-fat greek yogurt? I was able to have that as part of my full liquid diet.
  9. My Life as Liz

    I feel like ****

I'm down 15.3lbs since surgery on 8/22, and 58.5lbs from my highest weight. I have been feeling like **** lately. I threw up my multi yesterday and today. Yesterday because I took it on an empty stomach. I knew it would make me feel sick but I wasn't expecting to throw up. Today I took it with about 6oz of broth and I threw it up again. I really wasn't expecting it today. Last week I was able to take my multis this way. I'm going to have to buy a different multi and try it and see if that helps. I'm also finally starting to take my carafate. I've taken it twice so far today. It seems to help a little. But I still have a general feeling of crappiness. I can't wait to move on to Stage 3. I can't wait! Hopefully on Wednesday when I have my appointment with the nutritionist, I will get to. I want to eat eggs and meat and chunky soup. Sure it will be pureed, but it will give me so much more variety. I am so tired of cream soups, pudding, and yogurt. The vein in my left hand going to my wrist still hurts. The vein is hard and sticks out. That can't be normal. I have an appointment with my PCP on Tuesday, so I'll ask her about it then. And about my incisions too. Jess nicked one of them with his nail and this milky clean liquid oozed out. I had him smell my incision to make sure it wasn't infected. Yesterday it leaked a little so now I'm wearing a regular bandaid over it. I can't think of any thing more to write, and I need to clean for tomorrow. I really hope the carafate helps me not feel so crappy. I really hate how this website sensors me! We're all adults here. Not a bunch of *******.
  10. Here is what I get............... Below are nutritional guidelines for the pre-op liquid diet. Depending on which items you choose to consume throughout the day, your intake should be ~1000 calories and 60-80 grams of Protein per day. The nutritional guidelines are as follows: Consume these liquids in moderation; they contain larger amounts of sugar. Juice, Gatorade®/G2®, Vitamin Water®, Life Water® or Powerade® – limit to 2 cups (16 oz) or less each day. (Try to choose juices lower in sugar such as apple, orange, or grapefruit). Regular Jell-O, popsicles, or no sugar added fudgesicles-3 or less servings each day 1 cup (8 oz) of milk (skim, 1%, Lactaid®, or 2%) or 6 oz. Light Yogurt (no more than 110 calories), ½ sugar free Jell-O pudding or ½ cup low-fat cottage cheese - 3 or less each day. EAS 100% whey Protein (Walmart) or Muscle Milk Light (Rite Aid) or Pure Protein shakes (Trader Joe’s) or Premier Protein (Costco) or No Added Sugar Carnation Instant Breakfast (Target) – limit to 2 a day. Do NOT BUY: Slim Fast, Ensure, Boost- these drinks are high in calories, fat and sugar. If you chose another brand of protein shakes, make sure it has less than or equal to 160 calories, less than or equal to 6 grams of fat, 15 grams or more of protein and less than or equal to 6 grams of sugar. These liquids can be taken in any amount since they do not contain sugar. Sugar-free beverages such as Crystal Light, Wyler’s Light, sugar-free Kool Aid or Sugar-free Tang, diet Snapple, diet sodas (remember you can only have carbonation before surgery, not after), Fruit2O®, Propel®, coffee or tea with sugar substitute, or Water. Broth Soups (chicken, beef, vegetable, miso)- tomato Soup is not a broth soup. It needs to be a clear liquid and can NOT contain bits and pieces of meats, tofu, noodles or vegetables. Sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free Jell-O
  11. I agree you probably didn't gain 1 1/2 pounds of fat. However potato is a bad choice. My doctor said to choose high protein mushies low fat cottage or ricotta cheese, greek yogurt (use splendra to taste as it is very sour). Week two I could have canned chicken and tuna mixed with low fat laughing cow cheese.

    Food and insurance

Unless you have complications there is no reason you *need* to follow up with a bariatric surgeon. I don't know anyone who had surgery in Mexico who does. The standard advice I have seen is to see your PCP at 2 months, 6 months, and 12 months post-op. Have your regular blood and urine tests as well as vitamin and mineral levels checked. Weight and blood pressure checked and recorded. The lab work, without insurance, is what may kill you cost-wise. You may need to do some serious shopping around for that, but it's important. As far as food goes, I'm not much help as I tend to focus on eating for nutrition rather than to stave off boredom. I really don't care if I eat the same things over and over again, so I don't ever really think about "new ideas" for food. That said, here's mostly what I ate during weight loss phase: breakfast: chicken or beef roll-ups in romaine lettuce (with pickle relish, hot mustard, etc.) lunch: chopped chicken breast with green veggies and a little light salad dressing dinner: poached egg on refried beans, tuna salad bake, lamb chops, steamed curried scallops, steamed cayenne pepper shrimp, chicken breast baked in yogurt, turkey-spinach-goat cheese burger patty, sardines in mustard. Good luck!
  13. Today is day 15 since I was sleeved. I have not had much pain. I DID, however, have a HORRIBLE case of hives everywhere tape had been - all over my belly, all around my stitches, AND on the back of my hand where the IV was. THANK GOODNESS they only lasted through 1 weekend - I took benadryl every 6 HOURS and kept cream on them. I'm still on liquids, although today I can add "thickquids" lol -- just made that up! hahahaha BUT ... I have been SO TIRED. I had to go back to work on Day 5 (called in sick Day 6), and finally made it all day on Day 7. I have been dragging myself to work, sitting at my desk bundled up in a sweater - don't know if the office building is cold or if it is me. When I go home in the evenings I go straight to bed. I went to my follow-up doc and got a B Complex shot, hoping to get some energy. It didn't seem to help. I brought a small pillow and throw to work with me so that I can lock my office door at lunch, turn off the light, and lay down in the middle of the floor and nap! I send an email to the bosses - "gone to lunch" -- and then crash for the hour. FOOD: (I take 30 to 1 hr to finish my shake or my broth) Everyday I start with a 1/2 cup of milk, 1 raw egg, 1 pkt splenda, & 1/2 tsp vanilla (Egg Cream - in the blender) - just to start with SOME Protein. I ordered a BUNCH of Protein shakes (kaching), but I cannot stand any of them. I'm going to go back to my tried and true "Designer Whey" because I always like it before. -- Water Mid-morning - 6-8 oz of juice (either apple, grape, or OJ) -- water Lunch - 3/4 - 1 cup of Soup broth (depends on what I made the night before) - Last night I made "Egg Drop Soup" - chicken broth, 1 egg, onion powder, salt, pepper in the blender, then heated on the stove. Yummy. --water Mid-afternoon - usually the other part of my mid-morning juice dinner -- some kind of soup broth (The other night I boiled stew meat with cilantro & onions. I strained the broth for me, then turned it into "fajitas" for the hubby. PROBLEMS: My BACK hurts. It is a dull ache in the middle of my back and sometimes close to my kidneys - sort of like when you have a low grade fever (no, I don't have fever). Not sure why, but it is annoying. Yesterday I had a little pain. It felt sort of like a burning in my chest. I laid down last night and was uncomfortable. I slept kind of propped up last night. I was clueless - then the light bulb came on - Is this... HEART BURN? I never had heart burn before - rarely - so it was kind of a new sensation. I kept thinking it was the surgery. So, this morning I took a Pepcid. Well, surprise surprise - I feel almost normal! Back is still achy, but stomach is gooooood. I was not "officially" prescribed anything for that - so my info is from these wonderful boards!! TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY I HAVEN'T FELT LIKE I HAD TO TAKE A NAP!! I see people posting about stomach pain - this MIGHT be something they need to consider if they are NOT taking something for heartburn. AND my last problem - my sense of taste seems to be heightened. Everything is OVERLY sweet or OVERLY spicy. I'm eating small teaspoons of vanilla yogurt today and really NOT liking the flavor - which is not usual for me!! I love yogurt. Even some of the canned Soups that I bought to strain are nasty because all I can taste is either potato starch or tomato puree. I started looking at the labels and was like - YUCK - everything has "potato starch" in it. UGH- GACKKK - NASTY. OBSERVANCES: I'm SO ready to do this! A co-worker brought me a cherry cheesecake slice today (a thank-you for something I had done). I graciously accepted it - OH you shouldn't have!! -- smiled and cooed over it. They left. I placed it in my trash can, on the bottom, UNDER the papers. Later I just said, "I love cheesecake! Thanks again!" and left it at that. So, I fired up fitday again today - haven't used it in over a year. Looks like I will be getting around 45 grams of protein today -- NOT bad for day 15. JUST NEED ADVICE ABOUT MY ACHING BACK! UGH. BECAUSE my tummy is not hurting and because I can have a little yogurt today, I have a little more energy.
  14. Are there any men here who were over 400 lbs before your surgery? Before your surgery, were you always hungry? What was your highest weight? Are you still hungry now that your banded? How much weight did you have to loose to have the surgery? My problem is I dont like the taste of most healthy stuff like salads. Lettuce tastes like grass to me. I cant stand that taste. I dont mind healthy cerials or yogurts, but how much how do you make 3 meals a day - 7 days a week out of that! Right now I am trying to cut back. I was on the fast track to getting banded with Anthem Insurance, when my company switched to Cigna (yuck!) I lost all my efforts and now I need to start at ground zero again, including the pre-op weight loss! I would like to chat about what you ate before and what you eat now etc. On or off this forum works for me. wishiwas@juno.com is my e-mail address.
  15. To original poster. For yogurt look for the Greek style as it will have twice the protein for the same calories. You can add Splendra if the taste is too sour for you.

    What foods to avoid

I am right there with you guys. I had a fill last Monday and it seems like I can't eat anything. This is really wierd but I can tolerate crunchy things better than soft things. I can tolerate yogurt though. I have been wondering if I am too tight but I don't feel bad all of the time and not everything gets stuck so I am hoping it will just level itself out soon. I haven't really known restriction until now I don't think so I am figuring it is just me...

  18. Yes, congrats on recognizing this and starting to move on. Just know, while you may be done with her, she is not done with you. She will be calling, so remain strong. As far as getting back on track, I would suggest you ensure you have no crap in your kitchen. No alcohol, no sweets and no sweet drinks. Continue with this resolution to get back on track and dump them all. I remember I would tell myself, "Once this tub of ice cream is gone, I just won't buy another." No ... I just needed to dump the ice cream whether it was full or not. Stock your shelves with proper foods. meats, Jerky, yogurts ... you know the drill. At least for awhile, eat exclusively at home. Don't be tempted by fast food or restaurants. This is just to get yourself back on track and disassociate yourself with the poor habits you developed with this woman. Get back to the basics of eating Protein first, then veggies and/or starches. Don't drink right before, during or right after eating. Chew very well setting your utensil down in between bites. Evaluate how you feel after that bite and try to stop eating AS SOON as you BEGIN to feel restriction. There should be some time between the swallow and next bite. Try not to eat to the point of where you are stuffed. That is what we used to do. Bottom line is things only change when we make a change. If we go back to doing things the way we used to, then we will get the same results. Praying 2 + 2 won't equal 4 leads only to resentments.

    **Newbie Alert** Not happy

You're loss sounds good to me. I don't understand these negative docs. I loss 26lbs at my 2 week visit but only 6 at my 6week. My team was just as encouraging both times. Today I had lost another 16lbs and they were just over the moon. Don't beat yourself up. Work on upping your Protein. I mix greek yogurt in my protien shake and sometimes add a tbsp of almond butter. That alone will give you between 33 -38 gms of protein. That leaves the rest of the day to get in another 30. Are you exercising? I lose a lot better when I exercise at least 3 times a week. Even of it;s a 30 minute walk, do it. Keep working at it. Things will fall into place.
  20. Unless you develop an eating disorder (see @@miller1109 's post above), it's quite simple. Every few days or every week or so you just eat an extra 100 calories ... until you stop losing. For those who don't track their calories / macronutrients / food using a tool like My Fitness Pal and who don't really know how much they're eating, it can be challenging. But even they can add a handful of nuts to their daily menus or an extra Greek yogurt or some bread at dinner. For me, the challenge in maintenance has been to eat a little more nutritious food and not just over-processed foods. I have so learned to appreciate since I was sleeved which foods are full of nutrition and which are full of ingredients that just make me crave sugary, high-carb, over-processed crap. Slider foods will push all your craving buttons, making you struggle not to regain.
  21. my first mushy meal was ff refried beans with rotel tomatoes with cheese. and i still love them. i like the ricotta cheese with spaghetti sauce too! the coolwhip jello and pineapple recipe is a favorite too. but i dont eat it much because of the carbs in the pineapple. but go to the kraft recipe website and there is a cool whip dream pie that is to die for. cool whip jello and yogurt. awesome! i am making myself hungry now!

Post sleeve comfort foods -roll call!

Yo, ProYo! JohnZ54, is there any soy in this treat? I am EXTREMELY allergic to soy and the damn stuff is in just about everything. Thank YOU.Valentina Hello, it's a lil off topic but what is your reaction if you consume soy? My 8 year daughter is also extremely allergic to soy. She has vomiting and diarrhea. On another note, Healthy Choice also has a Greek frozen yogurt. I've found in the frozen foods section with the Healthy Choice section. I go into anaphylactic shock. Starts with itchy throat/mouth, feeling clammy, itching ALL over, welts everywhere, throat/face swells--can't hear, can't see, breathing difficult/ heart races and then it all goes down hill from there.

    Carbs

I never counted fat grams at all. During the weight loss phase, I counted protein and, after the first 3 or 4 months (when I could eat more), I started watching overall calories. I do intentionally eat some fat now (like full-fat yogurts, avocado, etc) because it keeps me full. But again, I watch my calories.
