  1. Everything I've seen is that it's the exact same surgery. My surgery was on Wednesday, I ended up in the 2% complication club and just got home today but wasn't having problems in hospital with yogurt, dutch pudding, broth and things like that. They had offered pureed meat and veg a couple of times but I ended up back in the OR and then slept the next day recovering. It's interesting to see the differences and outside the complications so far I'm really happy. I don't know what the complications will mean for my progress early but I'm hoping it isn't too big a problem.

    That is very different. I’m in Iowa, USA and my instructions for the first two weeks is strictly liquid. Items that can fit through a straw and only 2 ounces at a time. So all day sipping either water or a protein drink is what I’m doing. This is for both the bypass and sleeve. It could be they do surgery a bit different and so it allows more to go through at a time. My list I was given says protein drinks, unsweetened applesauce, sugar free pudding or jello after protein goal for the day is met, light yogurt or light Greek yogurt, broth or cream soup, plain cream of wheat or V8 tomato juice. Again, only a quarter of a cup/2 ounces at a time. This will be for two weeks which I’m on day four post surgery. Wishing you all of the very best, I’m everything from excited to nervous, 😂, but will use this amazing tool for the rest of my life and my eating habits.

    Do you bake for family?

    I didn't bake for probably a year after surgery. My husband was on board because he really wanted to be as helpful as he could with helping me on my weight loss journey. If he wanted a baked good, he went out somewhere and bought it. I do bake sometimes now (I'm almost seven years out) - but I use artificial sweeteners, use Greek yogurt or unsweetened applesauce to replace the fat, and use something like bran to replace part of the flour. And I usually add unflavored or vanilla protein powder, too.

    Could you try making your own granola with whole grains? After surgery, I wouldn’t try it until you can move to solid food. I sometimes mix a tablespoon of seeds/nuts with a few ounces of 0 fat plain Greek yogurt and it tastes pretty good. You could probably toast some whole grain oatmeal flakes with nuts and seeds to give you the crunch of granola. After surgery, you’ll probably be satisfied with a small amount, so it won’t be a big deal.

    you said it! Prior to surgery, I would have eaten a bowlful of it. Now I have to limit it to a couple of tablespoons on top of Greek yogurt. This far out, eating it doesn't bother my stomach - but the calories - YIKES!

    I also love Greek yogurt and granola. Where I would have eaten it every day before surgery, I now eat it just occasionally. I eat Nature's Path Love Crunch because the sugar, fat and calories are lower than the type I used to eat. I also switched to high protein/zero sugar Greek yogurt. I eat pretty much everything I used to eat, but in healthier versions and a lot smaller portions. Find what works for you to avoid feeling deprived and sad that you need to "give up" certain foods.     it seems like such a little thing but giving up foods is hard. Did the dietitian have suggestions or substitutes? (And for what it’s worth I *could* eat granola in my yogurt at this point but I choose nuts instead for the crunchy texture)
  8. Yesterday I met with the dietitian. I don’t have a surgery date yet, but she is having me start a 1,300 calorie diet with 45% carbs, 30% protein and 25% fat. No refined carbs. I was writing down healthy snack ideas like Greek yogurt with granola (my favorite). Then I saw that granola is not allowed because it is a refined carb. I started crying! I think I was crying more about the idea of a diet than the actual granola. It’s been an emotional week for me as I launch forward on my WLS journey. All my tests are done. Two appointments left (follow up with psychologist and dietician). It finally feels like this is really happening.

    Surgeon's advice after vomiting

    I have random bouts of vomiting every week. Not like the last 10 weeks though. 1 meal will be fine and the day after its a no no. I vomit saliva, not froth. I dont understand it at all. I dont do liquids the day after, I need nutrients badly so I start on things I know are ok with my tummy. Yogurt is a big soother. The gummy vitamins went straight in the trash as soon as I could swallow ordinary multivitamins and iron from the supermarket. I do morning and before bed with these. Thats working fine. I was given soluble Calcium but I can not stomach it and as I am seeing my dietician tomorrow, I will ask about alternates for this. I was told to book a Vitamin B12 injection every 12 weeks for life so have this in 10 days time. Does anyone else get this ?
  10. Today is first day I didn’t have a loss on the scale. Actually put 1/2 lb on 252!!!! As I’m reading this, I’m getting ready to go walk at gym. I had my 11.5 oz fairlife chocolate protein shake for breakfast. Water while walking. 1 cup of tomatoe vegetable(strained of course) soup for lunch . More water, Okios pro yogurt for dinner. Hot tea and jello cup for dessert. I still have 4 week before I head back to work. Loving the process so far, looking forward to phase 3 next week with purée veggies and chopped meat!!

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

    Hello all! I definitely am protecting the pouch! The most strenuous thing I’ve had is 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt! :) I broke my stall today! I’m now 244.6 with a 2 pound weight loss!! I’m so happy! Definitely thinking the fact that I hit my liquid goal yesterday had to do with the loss. Staying hydrated is super important! My meals yesterday… 20 oz coffee Protein Drink (fairlife coffee flavor with Starbucks blonde cold brew black coffee) 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt About 4 oz of a creamy puréed chicken bacon potato Soup. And lots of water! Today I’ll be taking my Christmas tree down. Well- everything but the actual tree due to the weight restriction. Then I’ll go walk at the gym. Only today and tomorrow left of my medical leave. Back to work on Saturday night. :)
  12. Im 8 days post op and I never feel hungry. But I think I get restless which is my body saying to eat., I drink my fairlife protein shake around 8:30am and then every 2-3 hours and eat yogurt. Or 1 cup of creamy soup(tomatoe/vegetable) I drink water in between the 2-3 hour meals. By the time dinner comes around I might have 2 soft boiled eggs or another shake. I have a cup of tea with Splenda to end my night. I’m hoping this stays the course as I start introducing solid foods.
  13. I have had problems like you from the get go. Its quite difficult to get to all your protein and water in. At 9 weeks out, I have not, ever reached my goals. I cant do the shakes or drinks either. I have tried all the ones available in the Uk. My dietician says just eat what you can. I still aim for 6 small snack meals a day. Every week I try something different, mostly its a fail but some times I am surprised by a win. Tuna mayo on 2 small crackers went down a treat. Win win. Yesterday I made Mussels in a Thai broth. The 8 small, well chewed mussels went down fine but the broth had to wait to be eaten separately later. Animal meats, no matter how well cooked are still a no no. Bread of any kind - not on your nelly. Vegetables other than in a soup form and in place of a snack meal - no room at the inn. A typical days eating is Breakfast - 75gms yogurt or 30 gms porridge. Lunch - Surimi sticks or a egg mayo. Snack 1 - mushroom soup. Dinner - pate or tuna mayo and crackers. Snack 2 Cheese. Snack 3- fruit ice lolly. I drink milky coffee [ because I am allowed] I have given up on the gummy vitamins and soluble calcium, both give me nausea. I replaced them with tablet form ones. On the plus side, I am less wobbly and able to do more everyday. on the down side I haven't lost any weight for a month. I see my dietician this week so I will see what she says

    I like the premier shakes and at 9 months out still have 1 almost every day because I just prefer to knock half my protein out without thinking about it. My tastes did not change after surgery. P3 snack packs are great to have on hand for a quick lunch, I always have deli turkey in the fridge too, eggs, turkey jerky and jerky sticks, greek yogurt, eggwich's are a good breakfast option. Wasa bread thin cracker things, good thin crackers, rice cakes. I drink a ton of gatorade zero, body armour lyte, and diet iced tea as well. Even though my tastes didn't change after surgery I still wouldn't recommend stocking up too much on anything. Even if you like something you may get sick of it. Variety helps keep things interesting.

    Currently at my stage, I use refried bean for a taco bowl of a type - Refried beans with some taco spice, cheese, salsa and skyr yogurt (which replaces sour cream and is high in protein). My favorite meal of the day 😂

    Thank you all for the support. I had my one week post op appointment today. It went very well. While I was only on semi full liquids at my one week mark I am now on full liquids. (Malt o meal, cream soup, Greek yogurt- and removing fruit juices since those will now be empty calories) Tonight I’m having a little creamy soup rather than broth to see how that sits. I’m supposed to be setting up for 3 meals a day- it just seems like so much! Today I’ve had 54 oz of liquid- 20 of those being a diluted protein shake. (Coffee and a fairlife coffee protein shake) but I was also on the run all day! My appointment was in the morning, followed by a little shopping before meeting a friend at the gym for a walk followed by a hair appointment. I made sure to keep a water bottle on me and keep drinking as much as possible! But now I’m home and EXHAUSTED! Can’t wait to snuggle up with my pup and watch some tv! :)
  17. I’m on day 5 post op. Everything seems to be going pretty well. My Dr has moved me to phase 2 eating, creamy soups, yogurts ith fruit flavor no pieces of fruit. Also soft boiled egg To go along with my protein shakes. I started my bariatric vitamins B12 dissolveable tablet, Calcium Citrate 1000mg chewable(not so great) and a multi that looks like a starburst candy!!!! So far I have been walking abouT 1.5-2 miles each morning( not today 12in snow) I find it easier to drink while on my walk rather than sitting down. I have to say that I am not hungry at all. I know I have to eat which I am doing getting in 60-80g protein and 64 oz liquids. It’s just weird that I’m not looking to graze in the fridge!!!! Also I am keeping a food journal, times and how much and protein taken in and am also using Baritastic app to track weight and goals and food as well. Might be a little over kill the journal but for now I seem to like it. Just wanted to share my first week with everyone because I’m proud of the work I’m doing!!!!
  18. I'm in Arizona and I'm scheduled for Feb 14! My surgeon requires a pre-op diet. 3-4 shakes a day, but can also have SF pudding, jello, and popsicles, low-fat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and a few other items. So I think I'll be alright. I start that on Monday, which is also when I go in for pre-op testing

  21. I'm scheduled for my VSG on February 2nd. I'm almost a week into my pre-op diet and managing okay. One of my challenges is that I live in the Netherlands as my husband works here and I don't speak Dutch super well. The post-op guidance here is also different from what I've read online for North America and the Mexico clinics so it's a little harder to use online resources. The foods Dutch people regularly eat are different than I'm used to from North America so this might be one of the reasons. For example the diet for the first 2 weeks post op is called a high-fat liquid diet where it suggests a low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese for lunch, 1 dairy product for mid morning and mid afternoon snack and for dinner pureed potato, meat and veg, followed up with another dairy product for snack after dinner. After that diet for 2 weeks they suggest building up to solids.
  22. Looking for advice, will try to be brief. Thank you for allowing me to join your community! As the title explains, I have had two operations in the last 12 years. I have had issues with alcohol in the past which led to my revision. Anyway, I will complete a 'my story' post soon. Today I am trying to determine if what I am experiencing is normal or not. Thank you, in advance, for your candid advice. I developed GERD-like symptoms about nine months ago. I tried to moderate it with diet (less spicy / tomato), a few rounds of Prilosec. About seven months ago I gave up all alcohol in-part due to the painful symptoms. I had greatly moderated from my two bottle a day heyday, but I still drank. I am proud of my progress, but meetings may be in my future. At three months, Dr. ordered an endoscopy. I had the procedure October 30, 2021. Results showed that I was inflamed, but no ulcers. 'Just stay on Prilosec, forever if you have to' is the advice I received. After endoscopy, I decided to give up all carbonated drinks (I was hooked on about 100+ ounces a day of Diet Dr. Pepper). My go-to drink is now water. Also have added a lot of unsweetened iced tea and some coffee. A few days after New Year, my appetite started to decline. Just the thought of food was making me not feel well. I work from home and I fell into a habit of: one yogurt in the AM, protein drink at noon if hunger strikes, then just maybe 10 bites of anything around 4pm. Dinner at 7, maybe 20 bites over two hours. Hunger pains come on strong at times, but go away fast with 2-4 bites of anything.. As of today, Jan 23, my appetite is still just about 30% / 40% of what it was. I still find myself feeling like I have to 'force' myself to eat sometimes. Nothing sounds or tastes very good. I had a colonoscopy in December. Came back normal with one non-issue polyup (sp). Last week, I ran out of Prilosec. I decided to see if maybe I could get away with an as-needed solution. Big mistake. For the last three nights I have been awakened with extreme pain in my stomach. I have been taking Pepcid and Rolaids / Tums as needed. I plan to restart Prilosec tomorrow. Not sure why my stomach is still on fire??? I have a rather bland meat and potato diet. I quit alcohol and all carbonated drinks. Maybe a liquid fast and 100 Hail Mary's? This is my theory about my appetite issue: I think giving up the pop has resulted in far less bloating in my small stomach. Perhaps this has allowed it to heal back to a normal, or less inflamed, size. I cannot eat as much, but if I space out my eating, I'm sort of fine. I'm not sure about the mental aspects of this situation or how they corollate in parallel to the physical issues. However, the last time I felt this way (loss of appetite, could barely eat) was just before my emergency revision. Thankfully I have not developed the abdominal pains of that episode, just the eating issue. Just for context: I am a 47 year old male, about 260 pounds. I worry about constriction due to scar tissue, I was warned to look out for this. Thank you for any thoughts or advice! Matt

    When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)

    I eat plain yogurt with a few raspberries or chopped dates for breakfast or porridge and homemade stewed apples. Thats my limit. I havent tried anything else yet. I used to love fruit
  24. So, my program has me on fruits and veggies and even grain if one can tolerate right from month 2. I don't do much grain (may be once a week) since I don't like eating it much. Though based on our outlined eating schedule, we should take 3 to 4 servings of fruits (depending how we tolerate ofc). I don't have any issue with tolerating any ofthe fruits (I don't dump). But ofc if I do that my carbs shoot quite high especially cuz I am vegetarian and I get my protein mostly from dairy (yogurt, milk, cottage cheese and other cheese), which again has significant carbs. My average net carbs are between 60 to 70 grams. Anyhow, so I was wondering how did y'all carry your carbs during the weight loss phase? And when did you introduce fruits and veggies in your diet?
  25. I had my surgery on January 5th, I am two weeks postop and am on a full liquid diet. Needing some ideas on stuff to eat, I’ve been doing two bites of yogurt and egg drop soup/tomato soup. I’ve been doing my protein drinks too but need ideas for a variety of foods. Thank you in advance
