Will US insurance coverage Mexico surgery?
Tufflaw replied to SmartySassyNoPants's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The 6 month wait and pre-surgical testing has nothing to do with being the US, it's required by your insurance company, so even if they covered international surgery you'd still need all that stuff. Every insurance company is different. When I got sleeved in 2016 I had Empire and I had to wait 6 months. When I got my revision last year I had Fidelis and only had to wait 3 months. My doctor said if I still had Empire I wouldn't have had to wait at all because they changed their policy. Mexico should only be considered if you can self-pay. -
5 lbs in a week is pretty good - think of it this way, if you lost 5 lbs every week that's 250 lbs in a year! Of course that can't really maintained, and some weeks will be more and some will be less. Everyone's numbers are different, as long as the weight keeps going down that's all that matters.

Amen!!!! Been on the 2 week pre-op diet one week today. Down 100lbs from last month….daddy said why can’t you just keep doing that???? Cause I’ll go up and down and up and down. 262 was my highest and I’m over it and ready for the rest of my journey ❤️ -
some people don't lose ANY weight the first week. A lot of us come home from the hospital up to 10 lbs heavier due to the all the IV fluids they pump into you. that said, 5 lbs is pretty normal. Most WLS patients (at least normal ones - not the kind who are on "My 600 lb Life) lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month. So 5 lbs in week one is pretty normal.

It’s per kilo (2.2lbs). Lamb has been expensive for a couple of years. Drought & apparently a high demand for Aussie lamb overseas. Blueberries have doubled in price also (from the recent floods) - $12.99 a punnet at my fruit shop but again high quality. If I buy them from the grocery store they’re cheaper but I end up throwing most of those out because they become overripe, soft & mouldy in a day or two. General grocery items have gone up here too. Spend $150 & walk out with like two bags. Crazy. Still have trouble buying certain items. There one day & then no supplies for several weeks or months. Taken to buying doubles of things. I’m a carnivore through in through, @GreenTealael. I enjoy the occasional meat free meal but could never go full vegetarian or vegan like some of your family. But I grew up on a generational farm & my grandfather was a butcher for many years so it’s in my blood 😁😁. Damn that bread you made looks spectacular. -
I am only 6 days past surgery and I've only lost 5 lbs. Maybe this is normal, but I expected it to be more I guess. What has your weight loss journey been week? Especially the first month? Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

November Surgery Buddies!!!

I agree on the volume going up a bit, but knowing when to stop is key. I hit 284 with my weigh in yesterday... that's -119 overall. Very happy. My arrhythmia is down to once per month which is amazing. And I'm finding that I can be much more active. I competed with my coworkers during May to count steps. I was able to log and average 0ver 10,000 steps per day over the entire month. I took a break last week, but I'm ready to get back to some walking this week. See you next in the 270's 😁👍 -
I'm a newbie so maybe I am obsessing about nothing but I am about 2 weeks post-op and losing weight as expected. I'm not worried about the scale too much but I am so tired of the big middle I had and the thing is - it's still there!! The inches seem to be dropping everywhere EXCEPT my stomach. WTH? Is this normal? is the weight around your middle the last to go? This is depressing.

To count or not to count (calories)
vikingbeast replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I track, but every now and then I'll have a "holiday" from tracking. I usually end up gaining 2-3 lbs. over a week or two, and as soon as I start tracking again, it goes back down. (I'm just finishing one of these "holidays".) -
To count or not to count (calories)
STLoser replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Here's what I do. I hate tracking but I've been doing it consistently now for 2 years and that's a big deal for me. I still don't like it but it helps me see I'm making good choices and getting enough protein. At the same time, I DO eat when I'm hungry and I'm not extremely strict about calories. If I'm hungrier one day I eat more that day and I always ask myself if it's head hunger or actual hunger. The other thing I do is take a day off every week or so where I don't track, but I still listen to my hunger signals and make healthy choices. It just gives me a break from tracking. This has worked well for me for 2 years now and I haven't had any real gains and have consistently lost and am still losing, albeit very slowly now. Yes yes and yes! I go through the same thing. I’m 3 1/2 months out and some days a couple bites will fill me up quick(sometimes it’s also because I don’t chew it completely) like today every piece of meat I eat is filling me up so quick. I think the more our stomach heals, it settles on the smaller size it’s supposed to be. But on other days I can eat close to 1200 calories. Between the protein, the milk I drink, snacks, vegetables & fruit. I’m glad I track because then I don’t feel bad about it because it’s all good things I put in. (Except maybe a 60 calorie ice cream snack from Aldi…lol) but for me what you are describing is normal. Can’t say it will be later for now it is.

Bariatric Mexican Pizza CRUST 1 package ground chicken 1/3 envelope of taco seasoning 1 egg 1/4 cup fat free shredded cheese Mix everything for the crust together and air fry at 450 degrees for ten minutes. Spray the pan liberally so it doesn’t stick. Toppings: 1/2 cup taco sauce 1/2 cup refried beans 1/2 cup fat free shredded cheese 4 pickled jalapeño slices, minced Once crust is finished cooking, add toppings. Put back in the air fryer at 450 degrees for five minutes. Once out of the air fryer, let sit for five minutes. Slice into 3 ounce portions. Top with a little fat free Greek yogurt and avocado of you would like. My husband LOVED this. I’m still on soft foods and this really satisfied the Taco Bell craving. -
Caffeine After Surgery

My Dr. said I could go back to my coffee/caffeine habit at about 2-4 weeks post op. Once I was getting all my protein and normal fluids. -
Hi I had my RNY 3/16 and I am almost 3 months post op. I have had issues with food taste and food turn-off. I’m not so hungry and despise meat-it is hard to eat and not enjoyable. I have lost 51 pounds to presently at 183 from 233. When I have contacted my nurse and at my last appointment was told that not being hungry is good-eat Protein.< br /> I go to the doctor on 6/7 and had blood work done prior. I am able to get my results and my Ferritin level was high at 230(normal is below 150) ALK phosphates also high 109, MPV & RDW and also high. Apparently with my google med school education I am storing a serious amount of iron! I looked at the symptoms and tiredness and abdominal pain are characteristic, which I do have. I am glad to go to doctor but concerned what is the problem and how do I get rid of Iron buildup. I am stopping my Solo Bariatric Advantage Multi with iron until I see my doctor. Has anyone experienced this?

I tried to smoke a joint in the first week post to deal with surgery pain cuz I didn’t want to take my pain meds. The resulting coughing fit (and stomach pain from the coughing) put an end to that real quick! About a year later i tried again and was fine. Im back to my normal rate of usage (like once every couple months) with no issue. Bonus points: I don’t get the uncontrollable munchies anymore! If i do feel munchy, its easy to ignore 💪🏼 P.S. No, i dont have a medical marijuana card, and Yes, its legal up here now, lol. P.S.S. I also drink/drank regularly (pre and post op), but only started drinking regularly again after weight loss phase. During weight loss phase I probably had about 5 partial drinks in total the entire time. P.P.S. I also smoke (cigarettes), which i am half-heartedly trying to stop. Sigh. -

3+ month post op and eating in the morning
Tomo replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm way "tighter" in the morning. When I mentioned it to my surgeon on my 3 month check up (I'm 10 months now), he suggested drinking hot tea or coffee first to relax the throat, muscles... Etc. -

Wow that’s high!! Per pound or for two cutlets? Prices here for everything have gone up. I spend almost a $100 more at the grocery store now than I did 6 mos ago. Use to spend like $200 a week and now it’s easily $300 and over. -

Meat is crazy priced here too. $79.99 for lamb at my butcher. They do get in very high quality, very flavoursome, organic meats which is what you’re paying for. I usually justify it because two cutlets is an ample meal for me. I think I might buy some fillet steak (my favourite cut too) next week too now after seeing @ms.sss’s dinner. Mmmm -
Will US insurance coverage Mexico surgery?
SmartySassyNoPants posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hello, I'm trying to find out if insurance will reimburse for Mexico surgeries, as out of network? my insurance covers the surgery in the US. I am trying to avoid the 6mo wait and pre-op testing and screening as I've already gone through it. I went up to my pre-op appt the week before surgery and had to cancel because I got sick. I had to recover, lost weight on my own and here I am 80lbs heavier just wanting to get through it but they are making me start from day 1. thanks! -
